I say this one wont last a full 10 days.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Swaliswan · 18/01/2009 21:32

Nope, no more check ups except for one 'consultant' (registrar) appointment at 20 weeks. The reg was so laid back it was unbelievable but then again I don't suppose that they would do anything differently unless I start to show signs of having problems. I really scared myself a couple of weeks back when I sneezed and quite a bit of leakage. It was very reassuring today to see and hear a nice strong heartbeat with no dips at all

BabyBolat · 18/01/2009 21:36

lol swaliswan that is happening to me too - only in the past week or so but it was shocking at first.

bless her - i have my 32 week check up next week and i cant wait to hear that little beat again!!

Swaliswan · 18/01/2009 21:40

Thankfully it's only happened once. I finally got my bounty bag today and quickly put away the sample of Always Envive just incase...

Bounty Bag? What's that?

Swaliswan · 18/01/2009 21:58

It's the bag of freebies that you used to get at your booking in appointment but now you have to get it from Asda or somewhere else, maybe Boots. It's considerably smaller than it was about two years ago with far less freebies. I couldn't believe how small the free nappy is compared to DD's nappies now. And to think that the nappy was too big for her when she was first born and she needed to go into prem baby nappies!

Swaliswan · 18/01/2009 22:05

Right, I'm off to bed. See you ladies tomorrow.

Night, night.

BoffinMum · 18/01/2009 22:16

KittyCat, sorry to hear about your problems. I hope you manage to get the sorted out without too many more headaches.

Nutty, LOL at your DD . Could she get working on my DS2 to be more tidy in his bedroom, do you think??

I thought my Bounty Bag was rubbish - it was all leaflets and no good freebies at all. I wish they did 'Green' Bounty Bags with eco stuff to try, as I would really be interested in all that.

Hello all.

Still marking essays - up at 6 doing them.
Tell me where it is written that you can get three or even four sodding A Levels with good grades and still not be able to spell or read instructions. 'Cos I am fed up of writing rude comments to that effect on the essays now.

Nobody has written anything exciting so far.
All of them have taken the lazy route and written about educationalists instead of reading what the actual educationalists actually wrote themselves (which is all freely availably gratis and with lovely pictures on nice sites on the internet).
I ask you.

In the Bounty Bag of life, first year undergraduate essays surely loom large. It's so bad we are giving ourselves virtual extra piles of them on Facebook using the 'Shite Gifts for Academics' function to cheer ourselves up!!

Anybody fancy swapping jobs for a day? (I suppose at least I have a job ...!)

conkertree · 19/01/2009 09:15

no wayyyy!!!!!

511 messages - not to mention the ones to finish off the last thread???????????

I was on here on Thursday so thats only been 3 days.

i may have to give up now and accept defeat.

BabyBolat · 19/01/2009 09:45

Nooo Conkertree you can't give up, just don't worry about catching up - read the past couple of pages and then dive right in! we did have a very chatty weekend what with NHS problems, criminal convictions, work-avoidance and general frustrations!

oooh Boffin, yes we can swap jobs if you like, today I have a 5 hour meeting on financial planning for 2009 and then I have a 2 hour meeting this afternoon with one of my favourite clients (who may or may not tell us that they don't have enough money to carry on after this financial year.

And somewhere in between that I have to write a directional document for the board of directors to justify campaign spend for the next 12 months. hmmmmm

Oh I have had the bounty bag then - twas rubbish, got a little pot of that bum cream stuff (can't think of the name), one nappy, and sachet of baby softer, some wipes and loads and loads of leaflets and voucher things that I am pretty sure I threw away because they only lasted a few months and I wasn't ready to buy pampers at 6 weeks surprisingly!

AuldAlliance · 19/01/2009 10:06

This thread is mad!
Have just caught up, it's an excellent displacement activity for marking endless translation exam papers (you may be intrigued to know that the recent riots in Greece led to three policemen being blessed - dredge up memories of school French and work out what was actually meant!!) and writing a course on the intricacies of translating travel literature.

Looking forward to hearing the outcome of the MN attack on the crappy NHS. France is rubbish as far as actual giving birth is concerned, as many doctors refuse to contemplate anything other than stirrups, interventionism and lying on your back, but I have never, ever heard of people here being mucked around with by the medical services the way you have BoffinMum.

Re the clingy baby thing, I think part of it is due to the mother's attitude but other factors are involved. DS had a bit of a traumatic entrance into the world and then suffered terribly from reflux for the first 6 months, which meant that he cried more or less all the time when he was awake. We only have pictures of him sleeping from the first months, because the rest of the time he was often red-faced and bawling. I left him with friends once or twice when I had doctor's appointments, and they called me panic-stricken to say that he wouldn't stop screaming, there must be something wrong with him and they didn't know what to do. It made me think twice about taking him to lots of exciting places (people don't like being disturbed by a constantly yelling baby) or leaving him with others while I did things that I wanted to do (it wasn't much fun for those left holding the baby). He is now an amazingly sociable, outgoing, independent and chatty little boy, but he was a very, very clingy baby and toddler. So if it happens to any of you - not that I'd wish it on my worst enemy, mind - don't beat yourselves up about your parenting techniques.

Right, back to work!

BB, that sounds as much fun as writing grant proposals and funding applications, but I would tell them some good jokes. I have chickened out of finalising a research council funding application this morning, and asked a nice colleague to finish it off on the grounds that a) I am stoned on codeine so a potential liability, and b) he had a long time off at Christmas and I did some of his stuff. Hopefully he will oblige!

Your financial planning meetings must be the equivalent to our room allocation meetings. These happen twice a year and sometimes handbags are waved viciously at each other (and that's just the blokes). The Early Years people are particularly territorial and aggressive. I have never seen so many supposedly intelligent people get their knickers in a twist about something at once.

AuldAlliance is right - all babies are different and there isn't necessarily a link between how they are when tiny and what they grow up to become. However I tended to take mine all over the place with me and just plonk them near wherever I was - they liked that. Istanbul was a bit tricky though as it's not set up for babies at all (women with babies simply never go out) but we survived!! A pair or norks and a packet of nappies and the world's your oyster! You also meet a lot of interesting people when you have a baby with you - it's like having a pet dog, everyone taklks to you. Go for it, I say.

conkertree · 19/01/2009 10:46

no wont leave - am as addicted as most of the rest of you i think - just meant might give up on trying to catch up.

but then have read the first 4 or 5 pages out of 11, and have questions, so now i have to read the rest to see if they were answered before i make people repeat themselves.

general comments anyway from what i've read - will join the boffinmum fan club of people who'd like to meet her as a generally impressive and inspiring sort of person.

babybolat - cant believe your colleagues - wondering how you got on with the extra work at the weekend, but know you have a busy day today so will read on to find out.

BoffinMum · 19/01/2009 10:48

PS re sheer volume of threads, I think we ought to be considering moving into a commune together. That would save Frekkles from vegan lesbianism, sort out childcare all around, and make for some very sociable times in the kitchen, I think. We could have all helped with BB's workload issue at the weekend. AuldAlliance could teleconference in. And Nutty and I would find it easier to be outrage buddies if we were local. Whaddyathink, ladies??

BoffinMum · 19/01/2009 10:50

Latest update from KittyLand -

I LOVE MY HUSBAND!! He's been on the phone all morning, unleashing seven types of hell on my old director, who is now personally sorting out the traffic fines issue and will have it fixed by Friday afternoon, with email copies to me of all the documents clearing my name.

DH has also been in touch with my old bank - and it would appear that there was a fraudulent transaction on my account - when I sent the documentation through to close the accounts, they were intercepted (probably within the bank itself, but hey) and a loan was taken out in my name but without my knowledge. The bank are looking into this but it seems we're OK! Holding thumbs!

So Monday mornings have just become my favorite time of the week... and my gorgeous man has really risen to the occasion! I'm feeling MUCH better today - so thanks for the support... ranting is so therapeutic!

It is a great house. With about 50 of us chipping in we could probably afford it. There are about 5 or 10 other houses thrown into the package, and it comes with its own church as well!!! I chose something in Derbyshire because it's slap bang in the middle of the country.

I liked the dining room because big dinners altogether would be possible.
