OP posts:

Oh, they don't generally like structure. But his mum's going to want to see the baby before the placenta's even delivered & will want promises of a certain time & date in advance. I know that she's going to have to just fit around us, but I could really happily not bother for a few months

BoffinMum · 17/01/2009 22:02

They probably said nice things too but I only remember that.

My family are quite tactless so I avoid them usually.

BoffinMum · 17/01/2009 22:04

I believe it was a comment about my swollen ankles actually, followed by the statement that I would have to lose some weight.

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 22:04

I wouldn't remember anything else either - GOD THE CHEEK!!!

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 22:05

That is even worse - that last thing you would want anyone to say post baby birth is that you need to lose weight (DUH - really???!!!) such a stupid and hurtful thing to say.

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 22:05

Am for you boff!!

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 22:06

The poor people that are going to have to catch up with this thread today - it has been a bit of a day really!

Best one was when I invited my parents to a ball with some friends of mine, and we were queueing up to see the fortune teller. My friend was just getting married and asked my mum whether she thought having children was good. My mum said, "If I have my time again, I am not sure I'd bother". I had to laugh actually, this was quintessential mum. I did protest though for the sake of form, pointing out I was standing right there.

DH's mum was just as bad. She said, "Look at those massive breasts, all the better to feed my grandson with". I didn't ask her over again after that.

BoffinMum · 17/01/2009 22:09

I think they're all mad old women.

Nutty LOL at your MIL - what an absolute nightmare!! It may have been quite funny if you did speak to her, you could have got some of that aggression out!!! I love your DH, he is so good with her!!!

Haha Boffin, classic mum comment!

BoffinMum · 17/01/2009 22:12

It's not worth getting angry about. It's total ignorance and they don't ever think before they speak. Other people don't always like them either.

SpringySunshine · 17/01/2009 22:17

Nutty, that's exactly what I'm expecting! It sounds funny now, but we'll see how much I'm laughing when it happens

& Boffin, how outrageous I mean it's good that you're not all full of general about it, but really... It's just common sense not to be that rude!

As I say, they are just ignorant and silly, it's like old lady Tourette's IMO. I don't have to live with them any more, luckily.

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 22:20

Why on earth would she want you to terminate DD? oooh I don't even know your MIL but have an instant dislike for her!!!

BoffinMum · 17/01/2009 22:21

I saw a notepad once:

"Be nice to your children, they choose your nursing home".

Says it all ....

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 22:22

don't get me wrong my family and the IL can drive me crazy but don't know how you put up with it!!!

BoffinMum · 17/01/2009 22:23

I don't see them much, that's how I put up with it!!

MIL has died now so that removed that problem.

BoffinMum · 17/01/2009 22:24

My parents aren't interested much in their grandchildren anyway. When DS2 was little he kept forgetting who they were.

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 22:24

sorry but LOL Boffin and the 'that removed that problem' hee hee - am led in bed giggling to myself and DH is wondering what has gotten in to me!!!

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 22:25

Oh see I think I will have the opposite problem, and pretty sure ILs and my family will lose interest in me once the baby is born!!! will be spoilt rotten - am going to have to be quite strict with picking up and playing as I will not be doing that 24 hours a day when they are not here.

This stupid baby keeps kicking me really hard in the fanjo, then somersaulting into my bladder making me almost wee myself (I actually have to brace my pelvic floor muscles), kicking me in the fanjo & so on. In a seemingly never-ending loop.

Argh.
