You sure can, Nutty.

Struggling a bit today. Pain is enormous (not helped by trekking around the school with DS2 over the last two days). Hospital keeps losing my referrals to the pain clinic. I am now back at square one and have to go to the ante-natal clinic to repeat the consultation I had in the second week of November and get a new referral. The earliest appointment they could give me was going to be mid March but mw made them give me one on 29th January by making a big fuss.

I got so upset about all this last night I attacked the crib, broke it, said I hated the baby and cried myself to sleep. DH tactfully removed crib from bedroom, but is a bit worried now, and phoned mw for advice. She continues to kick ass up at the hospital. Addenbrookes are total wankers IMO. He was bloody lucky I didn't drive up there in the middle of the night and put the car through the plate glass window at the front of reception, because that is what I really wanted to do.

I am back in bed right now and mind noise is beginning again.

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 16:26

Ooh yes I would like to do some marking! i am sometimes tempted to go through people's work in the office with big red pen saying 'what were you thinking!!!'

Bless your DS how cute is he!!! Nutty Tattoos are addictive, those and piercings (of which I had 18 at one point!)

Well I am 8.5 hours in to my work and I have had enough!!! Definitely it for the day methinks - might do a bit more tonight while Dancing on Ice is on (maybe)!! What's everyone been up to today?

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 16:30

Oh Boffin, that is awful - you would think after the complaints and issues you have had they they would be making you their number one priority!! The 29th is just not good enough. Can the doctor prescribe you some pain medication now because of the time you have to wait?
That is awful! I am so sorry (hugs).

Don't worry about the crib, and sure you can fix it and might have been good for DH to realise just how serious this is all getting and how much help you need.

We'll get nutty on the bad (I mean brilliant) jokes to get rid of the mind noise...

BoffinMum · 17/01/2009 16:45

I think the administrators up at the hospital haven't got a clue. I am very angry

DH has however gone to get me some Minstrels.

SpringySunshine · 17/01/2009 16:46

Boffin, I was going to come & laugh at you & DH not feeling too confident about the shocked judges, but I see that that's not the main issue

Yet another success for the NHS, eh? Losing your referrals is just fantastic Even with the date brought forward to the 29th, that's still far too long. I wonder at what point it's actually reasonable to start threatening to sue? Because I think it might be about now...

I'm not surprised that you got so upset last night - it's absolutely understandable. But I agree with BB that maybe it's a good wake up call for your DH & it probably made you feel better for all of about half a second, which is something. & much as you're superwoman, I doubt that the crib is beyond repair, so don't worry too much about that. & you know really that you don't hate the baby. You hate the pregnancy (we all do & you're having so much more of a difficult time than most, if not all, of us) & the baby is infinitely irritating at times (I got all shouty & sweary at mine last night because he kept hurting me as I was eventually () falling asleep), but you will get better & stop being in so much pain after the birth & that will help no end.

Feel free to mind noise at us, though. Better out than in & all that...

& BB, I thought you were a good girl, but all this talk of naked cider sickness & 18 piercings... I'm not so convinced Well done on the massive heap of work you've got done. Best not to think about how much I haven't managed so far today

Nutty, I do love you & your righteous indignation & terrible jokes

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 16:55

I hear minstrels have magical healing powers - well fingers crossed.

Yes springy is right - you are so good at supporting us so we are here for you too xx

Springy I am a good girl, the piercings were all discreet!

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 17/01/2009 16:58

Boffin - we all love you and feel exactly the same, in many ways... You know that if you need to rant we're here! XXX

Tattoos - I feel so boring cos I don't have any!! Maybe I should get a little one when DC is born? Or maybe not...

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 17:05

I also agree with Nutty's lovely description of those fools and Springy's legal threats - they are clearly not taking your health very seriously.

I work in PR and while I have no legal strength whatsoever, if you tell me your NHS trust and hospital details I am happy to call their media team and tell them I am taking your story to the local and national press as an example of severe neglect and misconduct - honest to god PR people have all sorts of power when reputational issues emerge especially when I ask them for a formal quote with regard to your treatment.

I also have some great contacts at the Cambridge Evening News so I can bluff my way through it, or even do this for real if you want. It's also a great Daily Mail story (because they hate the NHS!!!) All I need is a summary of the issues to date (which you can email me) and I will call them first thing Monday morning!! This will work especially well seeing as the media are so interested in post natal depression and pregnancy issues at the moment.

You don't actually have to go through with it but am pretty sure I can put the fear of God in their media team at least...

LOL Nutty, a paticularly good joke and I love your outrage. I actually think we should be outrage buddies and go to each others' hospitals and be very angry and rude on behalf of each other.

Boff to Bristol: "You cannot treat Nutty like this. She is growing a British Citizen. That is a very important job! She needs treatment and she needs it NOW!"
Nutty to Addenbrookes: "You help Boff or the air will turn blue FAST! And I am NOT taking any prisoners!!"

BB that sounds ace. DH is supposed to be drafting a letter this afternoon when he comes back from getting the Minstrels, and he is used to dealing with outraged members of the public in his job, so he will be able to write something a lot more diplomatic and effective than I would at the moment.

However I am now apoplectic they have left me more or less to rot for 9 weeks and we are back at square 1, so I most certainly will avail of your skills if his approach fails to get a grovelling apology and this neglect carries on much longer.

I think a photo of me looking sad and ill in bed wrapped in a pink shawl would be a start. I can be hugging my DSs and say something soundbitey about probably not being able to take them to the park until June if at all, how their mother has been stolen from them etc etc. Bet the Daily Mail would love that.

Another soundbite: "I think the low point for me came half way through the third months of pain, when I realised that we were up to the sixth lost referral, and the only actual treatment I had been given in all that time was two twenty minute sessions in the hydrotherapy pool, doing exercises that made my condition worse not better".

Bit sad I broke the crib now, hope DH can fix it. It was a very nice crib.

KittyCat, I don't have any either. We can be the proper good girls - not like that faker BabyBolat

I'm all for BB's idea of putting the fear of God into them - you know how things suddenly change when their sacred reputation is on the line. I doubt it'd take much pushing for things to miraculously rearrange themselves into being a lot better for you...

Haha, Boffin I'm in awe of the way that, despite everything, you're still so clever & funny.

The Daily Mail would spin it into a great story of your DSs lost youth & make you out to be some Every Woman's Diana - & it'd be the fault of the immigrants straining the NHS, obviously. God damn it, if a beautiful, responsible mother of such wonderful white children can't get the care that she needs, what is wrong with the country? Blah blah tax, blah blah, property prices, blah blah obesity.

By the end of the article, Addenbrookes would be responsible for all the ills of the world

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 17:35

ha ha nutty that is brilliant!

Glad DH is helping with the letter - my email is [email protected] so feel free to send me anything or MN me if you want me to pick up the phone. Give them a time to respond and if they fail to do that tell them you will take the issue further.

The whole issue is one big soundbite, caring mother, significant risk of long-term damage, loss of earnings, cost to the tax payer for wasted time, work cover, additional benefits. Inept staff effectively disabling a member of the communty, losing the ability to be a mother to her loving family, (we would look at a typical day before the SPD and a day today). They would absolutely love it. The best approach would be to write a media release (which will take about 30 minutes and I can send it to them and give them 24 hours to resolve the issue or make a formal quote to be taken to the press! It is front page stuff for the CEN and a significant page in the nationals - would also be one for Bella and Best (a bit down market but with over 3million readers it's one to go for!)

I also work for a private medical insurer so if we go down that route, I could ask them to comment on what treatment you SHOULD have received as sure they will like the free PR also.

Don't worry about the crib, you will be able to fix it I am sure!

Nutty, also let me know if there is anything I can do to help you - I know medically they have responded but they still need to answer why you have to wait so long and why you haven't been referred to a pain clinic!

SpringySunshine · 17/01/2009 17:37

Ooh, you lot make me so warm & fuzzy inside. Talk about girl power

BabyBolat · 17/01/2009 17:39

SPRINGY [shock} I can't believe what you are saying!!! (I am a proper good girl - I don't know what you are saying!!!

But yes, they would be responsible for everything!

Nutty is right Boffin, I am sure the crib did something very horrible to deserve the beating!!

Thing is, this has gone on so long I don't know what I want any more and what they can do.

If I go to the ante-natal clinic on 29th January, then it will probably take 2-4 weeks to get into the pain clinic, which will mean I have been ill with this for 14-16 weeks before getting proper pain relief. I will only get the meds for the last 5 weeks of pg.

The dubious physio advice, and the related exercise regime is often contraindicated for pelvic problems like this, so I wonder if that was actually mildly negligent. I did keep telling them it was making things worse, but they didn't really listen to me - they applied a 'one size fits all' model.

Meanwhile we have the problem of me not having enough access to the mw, and being offered someone who only works 4 days a week instead. We do not have a number for other mw's - it just says on your notes to ring the delivery ward in am emergency, and when I told them this wasn't exactly an emergency but it was serious, there didn't seem to be a useful response from them. They said I should have known to ring the delivery unit. I would have only thought to do that for a show, waters breaking, or labour, or possibly massive oedema. It seems odd to ring a labour ward because you asked your mw to come to see you and she texted back recommending paracetemol, and never checked up on you after that. It seems like there is a bit of a hole in the admin structures here.

I suppose my compaints are not having sufficient access to a mw so having to shell out £3k for one of my own, my referrals being lost or ignored repeatedly despite me staggering up there in person to chase things, and generally being left to rot at home. I also think the physios are hopeless. I am not sure how best to express all this really.
