Pempe · 17/01/2009 16:05

chilled - any tips??? My DH just laughs when he sees me naked
He calls me (in Greek) - little barrel. That's not sexy to him, apparently

MarkStretch · 17/01/2009 16:13

That BJ theory was sooooo invented by a man.

Well, I am just back from Bravissimo, and I am more confused than ever. It went like this:

'Hello, I need some nursing bras, please check out my norks and tell me what I need.'

'Erm...looking at you I would say a 36 back and a G cup'

'I think these may be a little big for me, even with the engorgement and breast pad, I could house a small family'

'I think this bra may show over the top of my clothes...'

'Well you might have to go to another shop then, I would say you are a 34 back and an E cup, but maybe an F or a FF, but try those with a 36 back, on the loosest fitting, and then you can tighten it and make it an E, instead of an F, although you might find a FF will be more comfortable, OK?'

At that point I leave, muttering and bewildered.

chilledmama · 17/01/2009 16:16

tips you must be joking!!! More like caught him off guard!!
That's the 1st time since boxing day!!!!! I tell you what...bloody not mentioned the BJ thing here either! Only thing worse than pity sex is alterior motive sex!! Clearly when I tell him(in a couple of weeks time) that we have to have sex at every opportunity I won't have any alterior motives

'fence panels' even

chilled.... dp was supposed to do the oil and windscreen water in both cars and the wipers on my car and hoover my car but he's using the storm as an excuse not to...... not sure what his excuse for the last 4/5 months has been though

i miss sex.... stupid kung fu panda makes it too uncomfortable with his head so far down though...... not sure how wise it is to repeatedly bash him in the head anyway so i suppose we'll have to go without for a few weeks

chilledmama · 17/01/2009 16:20

I'm confused too MS - let me get this straight in my head... She got you try on the 38G even though she reckons that you might be a 34 or 36 at most, and really only an E cup but you could fit anything between E-G depending on what you find comfy...
Bet that company training took ages

OP posts:
MarkStretch · 17/01/2009 16:26

I am still so confused. I kept asking her if she could just tell me what size she thought I was so I could look elsewhere as she said they didn't have any of the styles I wanted, but she kept saying '34E, or and F or a FF depending on the back size, if you were to get a 36 then wear it on the tightest fitting'

She then wrote down the sizes and styles of the bras I had just tried on, which was pointless as I didn't like them and they DIDN'T FIT ME!

GAH!

swampster · 17/01/2009 16:36

MS, why don't you get one elastic band nursing bra from Carriwell or similar and try survive with that until your norks have decided what size to be for a little while?

Welcome Home, MrsY

MarkStretch · 17/01/2009 16:40

What the hell is an elastic band nursing bra swampy?

I'm not wearing stationery.

spottyshoes · 17/01/2009 16:50

She obviously knows her trade well!!

Debenhams may be the way forward. You whip your norks out, they measure and say 34F - shall I get you some to try?

Which is as you'd expect from BRA PEOPLE!

chilledmama · 17/01/2009 16:54

MS-do you have a debenhams close by you??
All debenhams stores have a 'basement' sales area where they get rid of (mainly womens) unpopular sizes/ patterns etc of all clothes. They usually have millions of bras down there including Bravissimo and (my personal fav) Freya!
I got 3 freya nursing bras for about a tenner...it was worth taking the risk on size for those prices...p.s. I don't think my norks are that unusual! I bought 38F as am 36-38 E at moment.

Well, I haven't read here for about 24 hours, and lbb had me rolling in the aisles at least three times. wipes tear of mirth

Am nowhere near birthing, but now am 37 weeks whichfeels like a huge milstone! Midwives are now on 24 hour call for me

I 'm getting occasional BHs which are really really noticeable - wave from bottom of bump right up to the top and down again. MW says those can go on for weeks and it's just the body getting gradually ready. Don't remember them at all from last time. enough to make me really notice I've been trying to keep everything else relaxed while they happen -especially keeping my face soft - and just watichng it rather than becoming identified with the feeling, and that's helping it not hurt. But really, this is like once a day or something, 'm not on the edge of going itno labour or anything. Anyway, maybe my coping tecghnique will be helpful for some of the other early twinge girls.

MN is so slow I could almost drive to each of your houses for a chat in the time it takes to scroll up or down a page...

MarkStretch · 17/01/2009 16:59

It may have to be a trip to Debenhams later in the week then. I have been looking on figleaves.com but there doesn't seem to be any point ordering anything as I couldn't understand what the waffling bint was getting at anyway.

DH is out at football and I have enforced a drinking limit. I am 37 weeks for christs sake!

chilledmama · 17/01/2009 17:11

seems fair enough ms.
this lo has to stay in for least 15 more days so that i can get my hb...hopefuuly scan next week will say..duh..def head done or the ecv will turn her...either of those options easy. Only snag could be if when they scan they say...well the reason she hasn't turned is because she's wrapped up in her cord 17 times. Can't worry about that one as if it happens that's just the way it is and HB will be off and I'll be in for CS...what's the chances???

OP posts:
chilledmama · 17/01/2009 17:12

that shoulf be head down not done. She's not a turkey!!!

OP posts:
PinkTulips · 17/01/2009 17:41

MS... la senza have a very good bra measuring guide on their site that tells you what size you are if you meausure around your chest and around the boobs yourself.... slightly less traumatic than dragging yourself into a shop to be fondled by some mad cow who doesn't know her bra sizes from her arse

chilled, i had quite a late scan with dd to check placental position and all was fine, yet she'd still managed to wrap herself up in the cord by the time she came out.... these things can't really be predicted for the most part and the MWs are very experiaced at dealing with them when they happen.

can you not tell yourself if she's head down? where are you getting the most kicks? can you feel whereabouts in the bump she's lying? if you can tell where the feet are and can feel her back you should have a good idea of how she's lying.

PinkTulips · 17/01/2009 17:47

lol... when i asked my gp when i was having ds whether he was going to be big he said 'big for a baby but small for a turkey'

littleboyblue · 17/01/2009 17:51

O&U Why are you laughing at me? What did I say? Are you laughing nicely at me?

I have forgotten most of what I've read from today as ds has just climbed up on sofa on his own!! Arrghhhhhhhh! No getting away from the little bugger angel now! He's been hitting at the laptop which made it impossible to comment as I read.

Sooo glad I took the time to read posts, as was gonna do the whole BJ thing before dp went to work, but if the theory is rubbish, then no chance!!
He thinks I was trying to get fruity in my sleep last night, but I think he's a big fat liar!
I haven't bought any new bras this time, haven't got any bigger at all, but last time I went for the cheaper mothercare ones, but would def suggest if you having trouble at Marks, debenhams is good IME.
Had a good day, went and got a new mattress and a stand for the basket, that was the last of what we needed so everything now, we just need the baby.
(no, big lie, have to order size 1 bottle teats on-line, hoping I can find them on-line, they not in shops as I suppose you get size 1 with bottles, but fool me, threw them away)
Feeling a bit weery(sp?) now but log bus journeys etc will do that, just waiting for the 'am I in labour cramps' to come and go now

Good to see you back MRSY

MrsY · 17/01/2009 18:03

Hey. Thanks for the welcome backs...

This BJ thing - are they serious? Surely the point of semen is it has prostaglandins in, so should be applied to the direct area...

PT In a word. NO. Test after test has come back with everything ok. I don't have preeclampsia, I don't have gestational diabetes, she hasn't stopped moving, they can't explain why I can't feel her, they can't say why her tummy measurement is so big... I despair. If it wasn't for my gorgeous midwife, I'd be doing a Do It Yourself CS by now...

MS, have you tried Bon Prix? a friend used bravissimo's online measuring guide and then ordered from them, I think they were a tenner for two...

Speaking of breastfeeding. What style tops do people tend to go for? Had a mooch in mothercare earlier, and the tops that were meant to be for feeding looked just like normal tops, but were twice the price...

Pempe · 17/01/2009 18:06

warning - looking for sympathy - it's evening, so the BH have started (clockwork, about 8 o'clock), they're not fun are they? I'm obviously in some discomfort, wincing and groaning and whatnot - DH always, without fail, chooses the exact same time to give his lower back a rub, complain about his back ache and ignore my predicament.

It's not a competition It's like he has exclusivity on painful twinges. Give me a back rub for god's sake!!! I've stormed off to have a shower. mature, eh?

swampster · 17/01/2009 18:10

MS, I mean one of those SUPER ATTRACTIVE bras with no structure to speak of so they just come in small, medium or large and you haul them aside when you want to get your mahoosive bazookas out.

swampster · 17/01/2009 18:14

MrsY, the wisdom on prostaglandins in semen has been they are best absorbed when ingested - prostaglandin smoothie, anyone?

swampster · 17/01/2009 18:16

Pempe, just look on it as having a very empathetic DH.

onwardandupward · 17/01/2009 18:17

Hey - Swamps - I'm wearing one of those bras right now. Only, to add insult to injury, it's A HANDMEDOWN!!!!!! hauls norks off the carpet as tries to walk along

Not laughing at you nastily, lbb, you've just said some really witty things in the last day or two smothers LBB in a maternal embrace

PinkTulips · 17/01/2009 18:23

i have 2 nursing bra from when i had dd but have to be honest and say with ds i just bought cheap, underwired, non padded bras in generous cup sizes (ie, i bought dd and e even though i'm only a c or d) and yanked the cup down to feed..... they don't last long with this treatment, hence buying cheapo ones, but it's more comfortable and means you can wear a greater range of clothes than when you're wearing nursing bras that come all the way up to your neck!

will use the nursing bras for a week or so til engorgement is gone then swtich to regular bras again.
