Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lardybump · 14/01/2009 19:28

They said it can take up to 14 days but she is marking it up as urgent so we will see...

rosieposey · 14/01/2009 19:28

Hooray! Glad to get some advice on it MS thank you! ive got 500 mg twice a day, im already dehydrated because of the diabetes so ill just glug a bit of extra on the old fluid front. Do you get lots of headaches? I never get them usually so will keep an eye out for them, its ok to take paracetamol anyway isnt it? Glad you take it without too many side effects though will start it in the morning. Thanks for letting me know as was a bit worried about feeling super rubbish on them.

rosieposey · 14/01/2009 19:33

Aw lardy that sounds awful Hope that your support belt gets there soon and makes a difference. How long after the birth will it take to sort itself out again? Did she say? I know that i get the odd achy hip like most pregnant women but you sound like you are in a bad way

MarkStretch · 14/01/2009 19:33

Rosie I haven't found too many side effects fortunately. I would say don't be alarmed if you feel a bit light headed and dizzy when you start taking it, obviously it is doing it's job and lowering your BP but it can feel a bit alarming at first. And don't be surprised if you feel more knackered than normal. I upped my dose yesterday and fell asleep on the sofa for an hour last night.

I would say if you experience too many side effects they may be able to alter your dose to suit you.

I've found the headaches have only been a problem when starting/changing my dose and I do take some paracetomol and a couple of pints of water and it passes.

lardybump · 14/01/2009 19:40

Rosie she said that it should take two or three days, so I am looking forward to that...

dinkystinky · 14/01/2009 20:18

Lardy - so sorry to hear your back is in such a bad way; hope your support belt brings some relief v soon and good that you're marked down for urgent further treatment.

mentalpup · 14/01/2009 20:40

RosiePosey & Markstretch..... I've been on Methyldopa since 25 wks with 1st pregnancy.
(now at 35wks 2nd pregnancy with a 21month old!)
Unfortunately my BP never went down post birth and have now been on it for 2 years. Quite a low dose though and haven't really had many side effects - main problem has been remembering to take it! Am now being very closely monitored in this pregnancy and consultant led. Have weekly BP checks and I have to say that the Methyldopa is definitely doing its job!

Not experienced many headaches though.

Not sure this tells you anything new but you're not alone...... just hope that it is only pregnancy related. Looks like I'm on this for the duration!

littleboyblue · 14/01/2009 20:49

Thanx everyone for your messages and support, it does mean alot.
I am so me me me me me aren't I
rosie I've heard that too about the not testing as a standard due to inconsistent result.
Sorry to hear about your bp. Hope side effects aren't too bad
MS Tha's nice to know. So you weren'ttreated through labour and your dd has no lasting effects from it? That's good. Calming down.............a bit
O&U That made me smile, I am back at the DAU in the morning to talk about it, the lady I saw today for blood test is going to see me and she was very nice.
I know I'm sounding like I am very stupid (thanx O&U for putting the key words in caps for me ), but as I was reading the leaflet they sent me (ok, it was through lots of tears and I was shaking....) I'm sure it said that the waters could be infected, that some babies contract it in utero, will have to look again, but don't think I will, like MS said I'll drive myself mad!
lardy sounds very painful! They have no idea what they put us through do they these pesky babies hopefully the belt will arrive long before 14 days.

I think dp is getting flu he feels sick, shaky, has bad headache and is wrapped up on sofa in a fleece jumper and blanket. He never gets ill or complains so this must be bad. I've told him this house only has room for 1 whingy pathetic person , he's also set on still going to work tonight....

rosieposey · 14/01/2009 20:52

Hi MS and Mentalpup - thanks for letting me know. Gosh thats a long time mentalpup ... did they say why it never came down again. Tbh i have had the odd random high bp when not pregnant but generally am ok but i guess as am nearly 35 weeks it was always going to happen. Obstetrician said that i couldnt just come straight off it and the dose would have to be reduced gradually. Hmm just wondering as well how taking methyldopa will affect me having the spinal block for my section? I have had epidurals before and they've lowered my bp so if im on m/dopa wont it go too low ? MS were you on it in your last pregnancy too? Probably should stop stressing really but just wondered how they will counterbalance it for the op.

rosieposey · 14/01/2009 20:55

Sorry MS i meant were you on it for your last pregnancy too because i know you said you had an emergency section?

mentalpup · 14/01/2009 21:00

Rosie
Yeah, tis a bit of a long time..... I had to be reduced gradually after the birth of my DS in March 2007. I came off it and it went up so they decided to put me back on it. As I knew that I wanted to have another baby and we knew that I didn't have too many side effects on the Methyldopa, the GP decided to put me back on that. It is currently quite regular and controlled which is the main thing!

well.... on the epi front. My experience from my DS's birth.... was induced at 39wks because of the BP but I did have to have an epidural. No question of it really..... yes, it does lower the BP but I was so closely monitored during labour, if there were any problems with it going too low, they were on it straight away.... as it happened, although I was supposed to be having an epidural, it turned out to be a spinal block in the end anyway...long story. don't think there was a problem but I guess I wouldn't have been told if there was! Sure it will be fine, but a question you can ask!

MarkStretch · 14/01/2009 21:05

Rosie I wasn't on it for my last pregnancy but they started me on BP meds soon after I had DD. Started off with beta blockers and then moved onto ace inhibitors. When DH and I knew we were going for fertility treatment they took me off the ace inhibitors as they can cause birth defects and put me on the Methyldopa.

I'm not sure about the effects of epidural but you will be so closely monitored during your section that I'm sure they'll keep an eye on that.

LBB- I had no idea with dd until the Dr's surgery rang me 2 weeks after her birth . They didn't seem to concerned about it and I had a 5 day course of AB's. However, DD was a CS so she didn't come all the way down the birth canal which may have made a difference. Please try not to panic, it's far better that they know you have it now and can treat it

rosieposey · 14/01/2009 21:05

Ah will do - have pre op appt week after next where i will see the anasthesetis ... cant spell it - nice drugs man so ill ask him too, just that you girls are my fountain of all knowledge on here!

MarkStretch · 14/01/2009 21:08

Will be interested to hear what he says Rosie as I may be in the same boat as you!

And I am planning to use the pre op appointment to ask hundreds and hundreds of questions!

spottyshoes · 14/01/2009 21:09

Oh lardy I hope you get some relief soon. I got my support belt at my 1st appt in both pregnancies and both times I took it off that evening and it didn't go back on! Hope it works for you x

Hope the meds sort the BP out pdq Rosie x

dinkymum · 14/01/2009 21:20

Hi i've been bad again sorry! Works been a NIGHTMARE this week amongst other things! But start Mat leave as of 3pm tomorrow! so I will try and do better!

Questionkid · 14/01/2009 21:23

Popping in to say hi before popping off again to stuff my face with more ice cream.

rosieposey · 14/01/2009 21:32

Your scheduled for the 3rd arent you MS? Im the 6th and my pre op appt is 29th so if your before me you can tell me I already grilled the consultant today about DVT meds and drugs that would help reduce the heamorraging factor after birth ( i lost alot of blood after my last delivery and narrowly missed a transfusion ) and she said that they would give me stuff for both - apparently its the same stuff as you use for induction on the drip syntometrine or its spelt something like that as it keeps the womb contracting for the heamorraging and injections for dvt - will ask at that appt too just to double check. Tis all new to me!

rosieposey · 14/01/2009 21:35

Yay for maternity leave dinky 'bout time too!

Hello Question mmm ice cream - lucky you

herbgarden · 14/01/2009 21:37

lbb sorry to hear about the strep B but second all the advice given so far. My best friend found she carried it just before the birth of my godson and had the anti-b's- as a couple of others have said, at least they know now and can deal with it.

lardy - you poor thing - the last thing you need right now.

I went for my 36 week check today and GP took my blood pressure twice on the machine and got a really high reading - was about to suggest drugs when he said he'd perhaps try the manual one. Lo and behold BP was normal....this happened in hospital with DS just after he was born. The electric machines gave me a high reading, the manual ones a normal. I insisted in the end that they gave me the manual each time as they weren't letting me out til it came down.....

Feeling very grumpy today and have been a bit shouty with DS (he told me to shush twice when I shouted at him - mean horrid mummy I am) - poor thing- he's got the brunt of my mood and DH has got the tail end of it....Hope I'm in a better mood tomorrow...I think I'm seeing d-day looming and am more terrified of my planned c-section than I am letting on. no doubt I'll be a blubbering wreck the weekend before.

dinkystinky · 14/01/2009 21:37

Lucky you Dinkymum -I still have about 2 and a half weeks to go....

Questionkid - mmm, icecream. What flavour? Just been enjoying some Ben & Jerry's cherry garcia frozen yoghurt but now craving icecream....

Aw got my dinkys mixed up nice that dinkymum is getting her maternity leave but cant believe you are still two weeks off dinky thats rubbish!

mumoverseas · 15/01/2009 03:58

morning all, hope you had more sleep than me AND, its our weekend here in Saudi. Whats a lie in?

Justme, glad you found us, welcome. A valentines baby, how lovely if he/she arrives on time. My mum's birthday is on Valentines day and I think the postman is always a bit confused about how popular an 83 year old lady is on valentines day If you haven't already done so, add yourself to the list near the start of the thread

Lardy, sorry to hear your hips etc so bad. Interesting about the crutches though. This was mentioned to me a few days ago as my SPD is so bad I can barely walk now but I fail to see how I can push my DD's buggy on crutches without going arse over tit? Hope you get sorted soon though, its terrible being in this much pain isn't it.

LBB, please try not to worry love, I'm sure you'll be fine. Don't forget we are SOOOOO hormonal so the slightest things sends our minds off thinking worse scenario. I don't know too much about Strep B but know a friend had it quite a few years ago and as a result she went into early labour. She was around 25 weeks and as a result her DS was very ill BUT you are WAY past that stage. You have had some really good advice already from the other girls which I hope has calmed you a little but I would have thought that if the doctors were really worried about the possibility of baby getting infected during birth surely they would have you in early for a CS? Don't worry about not knowing when you are in labour, you will know. Huge hugs to you xxx

hope everyone else is ok and so sorry you still have 2 weeks of work dinky.

dinkystinky · 15/01/2009 08:52

Morning all. MoS, Rosie - thanks for your commiserations but apart from the commute into work, its not too bad (much better than staying at our mice-infested home with bloody Thames Water drilling outside our house every 2 minutes!) - still v much looking forward to being on maternity leave in around 2 weeks time and spending as much quality time as I can with DS.

MoS - hope your houseboy got the hang of taking your DD to nursery the other day so you're getting a bit of a reprieve on the walking and pain front. I really cant believe how much pain you, TBM, Spotty, Markstretch, Lardy and others have been in with backs/PGP/SPD - lets hope that come the end of February the end of all your troubles and pain are well in sight too. Sorry sleep is proving elusive - think we're all suffering from that abit, but doesnt really help anyone much when they're going through it (however was quite surprised to see no middle of the night posts this mornning!)

Herbgarden - dont worry about being a shouty mum; we all do it, especially with irrascible toddlers! DS knows you love him and he loves you - you're just probably soooo tired and feeling overwhelmed at the moment (arent we all) that it feels much worse to you than it actually does to DS. Remember - deep down you now know how to deal with a baby (its apparently like riding a bike - it comes back to you without thinking according to my friends who have had several), this is a planned C-sec so totally different to your experience with DS and will be a positive happy birth and DS will love having a little sibling to eventually play with/war with over toys...

Right, to work...
