I'm either getting the shits big style as in proper bug [belly like a washing machine type feeling] or I'm doing something more interesting.......

Bet it's food poisoning

Thanks Ladies for all your words of encouragement.

Have just got home from hosp (bubba-less) and am totally emmotionally drained, especially as with such strong BH last night i only had about 2 hours sleep! Arrived, and was monitored for over 80 mins. Happy with CTG, reactive, even though i couldn't feel her actually kicking. They are suggesting that the reduction in fluid is making it harder for me to feel her move if/when she does. As nice as all the midwifes/doctors i saw were, my goodness they were so Slow and just Left you wondering what the heck was going on. I was in for over 7 hours for something that almost certainly could have been done in Much less than 2. The midwife put me on the monitor, and said i would be traced for 30 mins, eventually once 80 mins had passed OH went to ask midwife if i was done! After this, i had to wait an hour + to see a doctor. I don't mean to moan too much either, but every since doc/midwife i saw the first thing they asked me was what the problem was, when they had my notes in their hand, and it would have taken them seconds to just read the last bit that was written this morning that caused me to be admitted. Anyway, the decission was finally made that they were happy for me to come home, to be monitored again on friday, and meet consultant on monday to arrange induction, as they don't want me to go past due date.

I'm feeling very mixed about it all, as i left the hospitial i got very teary eyed, as much as i know its the right decission, i am truly devesatated that i can't birth at the birthing centre. At the same time, i'm very happy to not be going over my due date, but i do hope i go naturally rather than an induction.

MissHairspray Sorry to hear sweep looks unlikely to work. Keep on your birthing ball, rotating hips on that did all sorts for me.

Stripey know what you mean about being paranoid about bubs going posterior again. Def think your on the right track with the birthing ball!!!

FLF lol @ consultant's "rummage" hope it does the trick. Talking of internals ladies, i havent had one yet.... i mean if your not in a hospitial gown totally starkers underneath, how does it work? Do they ask you to get naked from waist down? or what? just curious!!

Tink Contractions sound promising... Hope Go Go Go for you!!

Lenni Thanks for hugs- much appreciated.... have been feeling like a very senstive little sole today! Hope things are going well for you??

G&T niggles not amounting to anything are driving us all bonkers, eh? Hope you got some rest today!

Moose Glad to hear you had such a good result from low fluid. Did you go into labour naturally, or end up being induced? How are the twinges today?

Dog i bet your aching after your super baywatch saving swim.... i don't think i could swim far/fast even if it was life/death..... i don't think my body works anymore!!!

Books Have you tried hoola hips on a birthing ball? Took mine from Brim to 3/5.

EachPeach Thanks for vibes, how are things your end?

Right... need food, fuel level v. low. can't be bothered to cook from scratch, but got sainsburys good to you tuna, lime and corriander fish cakes in fridge, with some salad will do the job. Yum!

treedelivery · 13/01/2009 20:11

OMG have you been there all this time!!!???

I'd be bloody ready to kill someone!

fourlittlefeet · 13/01/2009 20:17

yes they give you a sheet that would barely cover a knat, then ask you to take off your bottom half, and leave the room for about 30 seconds for you to do it in, so invariably you are hopping around on one foot, everything hanging out and they've got the door open. fan-tastic. at least the recent ones they haven't used a light and a speculum and had two of them peering up there. that really hurt AND was really embarrassing.

Having had extremely 'loose' bowels for 2 weeks now, I no longer think its a sign, but just think our tummy's can't digest properly with all that is going on, so they just get it over with quickly .

am now officially so bored i'm playing spider solitaire!!! haven't done that since my last maternity leave . like the idea that the restlessness is a sign.

Sorry, Ray, meant to mention your plight. Having been through it four times, I know how you feel. Its incredibly frustrating and demoralising.

treedelivery · 13/01/2009 20:24

And of course you are dissapointed about the birthing centre. Its pants, am sorry for you.

You'd be fully within rights to have a good moan and a cry and be bloody furious at being there all this time. I can't believe it!!

stripeywoollenhat · 13/01/2009 20:30

ray - sorry you had to spend so long at the hospital, what an absolute drag.

flf - my digestive system is virtually running amok, swinging from one extreme to another. i've given up thinking it's a sign, though; given up thinking anything is a sign . even though today is only my due date and i have no right to be grumpy yet since first babies are on average eight days late, i'm told...

you can take yourself off the monitor you know... I frequently do once they have a good trace over 20 mins or so. If they say anything, I just say, sorry, really uncomfy/had to get up/go to the loo/straps were itching/digging in.. or just plain... 'YOU SAID 20 mins!!??!'. You can tell I've had enough monitoring already and it hasn't even started.

Just been reading the acupressure techniques for pain relief during labour. have requested DP swat up.

Am now reading the dec 08 thread where they went through exactly what we are going through, but last month. Its one of the cyclical things I love about mumsnet. All the antenatal threads are exactly the same at each number of months... and you know the feb bunch will be reading our thread going.. flipping heck , thats all to come.

Hi Ray

Sorry to hear about your mammoth hospital ordeal. Its a bit like that at our hospital. (had DS1 up North, much better care) Am due in at 9.00 for monitoring tomorrow and DH has booked the day off as last time we went in for monitoring at 9.00 we didn't get home till 4.00!

Right, back to your question, yes, went into labour naturally-ish (6hrs ish after a sweep which I hadn't consented to) with DS1 but he was posterior and ended up being failure to progress so had continuous monitoring, drip, waters broken and eventually epidural. That said, I was still on an absolute high when he was born. I still went home after 4hrs as well and was well enough to sit up in bed and call my friends and family whilst feeding my lovely newborn.

Its understandable that you are disappointed at not being able to birth in the birthing centre, but honestly after I had DS1 I really didn't care where he was born, or even how, I was just so happy to meet him. I'm sure you'll be the same! Just try to focus on the end result of having your beautiful baby in your arms and all this flippin pregnancy stuff behind you and you'll be fine.

The internals I've had have been done very modestly and professionally. Curtain pulled around the bench, single bed sized sheet to cover from waist down and a midwife to chaperone if male consultant. Haven't felt embarassed or uncomfortable about it - it's really not as bad as you expect it to be and they only do them if absolutely necessary anyway. I've found smear tests at the GPs worse to be honest.

Twinges have given up the ghost for now - got absolutely nothing at the moment and haven't had for a while. Then again, just had a really nice bath in the Neal's Yard Mommy stuff with candles around the bath so am very relaxed and that possibly could've slowed things down.

Your DH's are all great - every time I've been in for monitoring I've been on my own DH just does a 'phone if you need me' and I have to drive myself and everything!

tinkisdueanyday · 13/01/2009 21:52

that is how long between each they are lasting 1-2 minutes

treedelivery · 13/01/2009 21:53

Mine aren't regular damn them There going to die off again I think.

fourlittlefeet · 13/01/2009 21:53

tink, off to bed, so good luck! if they feel like stabbing period pains, and are getting longer and stronger... then its probably labour....if they feel like very uncomfortable tightenings, are regular as clockwork and your bump feels like iron, they are probably braxton hicks...labour vibes to you!

GTDAB, hope you are feeling better, those little tykes just know when we haven't got them 100 in view.

sleep as well as you can all

good luck tink! - take som paracetamol and try to get some sleep - if they wake you up then this is it!!

hkz · 13/01/2009 22:00

moose- Your candle lit bath has inspired me...I am off for one myself

gtdahb- Just the marriage proposal at the end, mind you everything makes me cry at the moment...feeling all sentimental

Tree- hope your runs mean labour is on its way and not a bug...

FLF- Am feeling your boredom vibes...feel very restless indeed. Book and bath for me I reckon!

ray- Sorry you had such a long, drawn out day, hope it wasn't too stressful. Must be super disappointing not to get the birth you want, but as long as you have your healthy baby at the end it will all be worth it.

Hope everyone gets a good nights sleep...if they don't go into labour that is...

hkz · 13/01/2009 22:01

Oooo...good luck Tink!

EachPeachPearMum · 13/01/2009 22:09

Oh rayray- sorry you have been there so long- it is so boring as well as worrying not knowing what is going on, staff are always so busy elsewhere

eek at looking at piles- don't you see enough of other people's at work tree?

No signs here (thank goodness) - 8 days left, and still not ready

Dh getting a wee bit excited earlier today when I called his mobile... I was checking how he got on at doctors after car crash!

EachPeachPearMum · 14/01/2009 00:37

Am here alone then?
Are you all having babies?

fourlittlefeet · 14/01/2009 07:28

morning!

have had crampy periods pains since 3am... then an 'evacuation' with a bloody show.

Now. The consultant told me to expect a show after whatever he did yesterday but... could this be it?? Will keep you updated.
