Just been catching up on todays typings...
Moose_- Hope your sweep has done the trick

Rrray- I am desperate for a pedicure...even though I haven't seen my feet for quite some time.. enjoy your pampering, what a thoughtful DP you have!

GTDAHB- Have a bath, eat chocolate and go to bed! I hope you feel better... these final days are really dragging on

Elkiedee- Can I ask you a few shopping questions about Wood Green? I am in hackney and need to do some last minute baby shopping and can't face heading into town or out to a retail park..
Is there a big mothercare there and also an H and M?

Carseats.... How do you know if they have expired? I had no idea they had an expiry date. I bought a mammas and pappas one from the local second hand shop, it looks brand new... is this a dodgy thing to do? We didn't have a car with DD1 so never bothered with a baby seat...but we do now..
If I need to get a new one is the maxi Cosi one a safe bet..I am clueless!

Feeling strangely calm and serene tonight after a week of aches and pains and piles. Finding this time really strange and very different from with DD1. With this baby I am keep on thinking the braxton hicks might be the real thing and am not sure...with DD1 I just went into labour, don't remember aany aches and pains and false alarms...I guess this is the norm for number 2..

fymandwhenisthisbabycoming · 11/01/2009 21:12

so are you on here somewhere Charlotte??

off to whinge on my am I in labour thread. just when I thought I was going to get a night off [grr emoticon]

fymandwhenisthisbabycoming · 11/01/2009 21:15

hkz - never buy a second hand car seat (unless from someone you know very well)- you don't know if its been in an accident.

Expiry = been in an accident OR so old that the regulations have changed since it was made!! I can't remember when the regs last changed but anything 5yrs +old is too old IMHO

hkz · 11/01/2009 21:21

Helllooo FLF!! I have been frequenting Bethnal Green rather a lot lately with DD, there are no playgroups on at the mo so we have been hanging ot in the Childhood Museum sandpit..fun and sandy

That's a bugger about the car seat, I have no idea who owned it before, so I guess its better to be safe than sorry and all that...

fourlittlefeet · 11/01/2009 21:25

lol. I'm there nearly every day hkz as live 5 mins away from it! are you brave enough for a meet up as our LO's are the same age I think - 20 months?

OP posts:
treedelivery · 11/01/2009 21:29

Am so jelous of you all in the civilised world of shops. I live in a tiny rather run down town I moved to from Leeds to be with DH. hour to nearest city . During mat leave and as a parent the depressing shopping really seems to matter. Could do with some fancy shops to drool in. Having said that got changing mat for £5 in Wilkos!

You off again flf? Establishing in early labour - a pita. Can totally echo what you say HKZ, I don't remember any of this faffing about.

Would LUUURVE pedicure. Spent 1st preg obsessing would have cracked heels and feet in stirrups for forceps and everyone in room would be like 'ewww look at her feet'. Crazy but true!

Just wrapped pressi's for dd1 from her new sister.
Also sleeping on a pampers dry nite thing from now on in case of water explosions! 39 weeks in the morning - eek!

fourlittlefeet · 11/01/2009 21:34

not sure tree; hence going on other thread so as not to bore you lot! off to bed with a foot massage from DP, but sure as eggs is eggs will be on later with ouchy ones. for a change TONIGHT IS NOT IT! Baby is staying in there . that'll fox them.

OP posts:
hkz · 11/01/2009 21:58

FLF- Once we have the hwole giving birth thing over and done with I think I can muster up the courage for a meet up...DD is 20 months, nearly 21...I go to the city farm quite a lot too... Anyway, youd better get on with labour and giving birth and all that...good luck!!

Tree- I've got the pampers dry nite things at the ready too...the midwife suggested them for the sofa in case she has to do any work after the birth...we have a rather impractical and totally grubby white sofa! (It used to be nice, once upon a pre-dd time)

Seriously, I was like that abbout my feet when I had DD. She was born in Hong Kong and it was very much a feet up it stirrups sort of affair. The day before she was born I had a lovely pedicure...rid myself of hard skin, had beautiful red toes, only to go into labour the next day. The first thing the nurse made me do was remove my nail polish, which I did, in between being sick and letting out little contraction yelps whilst faffing round with my feet! Was not really sure why it had to come off, but it was some sort of hospital policy and she wasn't the sort of nurse you'd pick a fight with!

Now I'm starting to worry about the car seat... just had a look online...any recommendations? It will pretty much stay in the car as we hardly ever use the car and I don't have a travel system or anything.. I don't care about brand or colour...just after something safe and practical i guess (don't mind if its cheap either )

hkz · 11/01/2009 22:00

Tree, i meant to say, hackney is not a place of civilised shops, think more pound shops, betting shops, discount shops, kebab shops and fried chicken outlets... there is an m and s though and a fab second hand baby shop.

treedelivery · 11/01/2009 22:11

Sounds like my town though we have the monopoly on mobile phone shops!

Oooo could quite fancy some fried chicken.

Someone was saying the £1 shops will become 50p shops things are so bleak. Wouldn't mind if we weren't an hour on a crap road away from some shops I can't afford.

I suggest the Britax first class si. £90 and lasts till they are 4 hurrah! We don't do travel system either so makes sense for us to get something they don't grow our of fast. It is rally nearly flat in rear facing mode due to the best padded matress thingy and recline forward facing for naps. Love it!! Had one for dd1 too that had to go to tip after an accident.

treedelivery · 11/01/2009 22:23

Am very poor and struggling to cover monthly direct debs since dh redundancy [end nov out of blue] and will be a complete financial disaster on mat leave....
but I just wanna buy these!!!

hkz · 11/01/2009 22:31

They are super cute!

Am a bit at price of car seats... think I will go for one that lasts 0-4 and can jsut stay put in the car, will check out the britax one.

hkz · 11/01/2009 22:38

Tree- I know where you are coming from. I keep on getting the urge to shop for cute baby things that we really don't need.
DP looks after DD, so while I am on Mat. leave things are going to be a bit tight....On the plus side, its a complete bonus having DP around and he is a great SAHD, but this was only meant to be a temporary thing (now its one year on!), so he's gonna have to get serious about job hunting, and this is a crap time to be looking for jobs.
But..oh...those little shoes are gorgeous! And it's cold, and babies need warm feet...

EachPeachPearMum · 11/01/2009 22:40

Happy- congratulations and welcome Jack!

MissHairspray- you made me LOL- DH.... are you just pretending not to be in labour?

FYM- poor DS, hope he heals quickly

Moose- sending good vibes so no induction- thursday is not far away Hope DS feels much better tomorrow too- FWIW DD was weepy the day after her vomiting- maybe its the same virus? She was right as rain 3rd day though

flf- you're still here? thought last night was it for you...

tree- nope- £20 is ridiculous! Ours is from ikea (dunno how much- probably about £3.50 tbh) the previous one (dd's) was £10 from toys r us, and I thought that was extortionate! It is falling apart now after nearly 3 years though.

dog- it's the hormones... it will be over soon
shame you aren't closer, as we have 2 car seats now (one came with new travel system- it is actually cheaper to order with carseat than without and we have dd's which is in great condition which I'm actually planning to use.)

rrayray- second drinking cold stuff- makes DS hop around all over the place!

EachPeachPearMum · 11/01/2009 22:47

tree- those shoes are cute... but I never put shoes on DD until she was around 10 mo, and had those leather ones like slippers as it was so cold!

Am very waddly today- think he is more engage (which would mean 4/5 or 5/5 ) My back has been hurting, but I can't tell if its because he's v low, or if its from crash yesterday

Was my birthday today... so I guess I won't have 2 children before I'm 35 bugger.

treedelivery · 11/01/2009 22:52

Oooo Happy Birthday!!

Perhaps slightly overshadowed by huge bump and a car crash? or have you been spoilt rotten? Bet the aches form the crash, joints less protected in preg and bf due to hormones. I was in agony after rear end shunt at 2 months delivered, your body hasn't the stability.

Cashmere shoes cleary bonkers. HALF PRICE though!!

this page car seat we adore hkz.

EachPeachPearMum · 11/01/2009 23:08

Birthday was pretty boring tbh- aren't they always when you're an adult?

Yeah- half price- can you imagine people paying full price? and you thought changing mats were expensive (something used 8-12 times a day every day for 3 years....)

elkiedee · 11/01/2009 23:54

hkz, yes, Wood Green has the biggest Mothercare outside central London that I know of and an H&M with a small maternity section. They also have an Adams Kids that's selling things off if you get in quick, as they're about to go bust (just over the road from Mothercare).

That's not to say Mothercare's wonderful, they're quite shortstaffed and the toilet was disgusting today.

There's also a large branch of Boots, a medium sized M&S very near Mothercare with a cafe, and various other chains. Though we have plenty of pound shops and fried chicken shops in Wood Green too. Still, at least it has a town centre to speak of, unlike Tottenham where I actually live. The Tottenham Hale retail park has some useful places, but we're nearer Wood Green and the Green Lanes Sainsburys also has a small retail park including a fairly big Next with Women's and kids' clothes on the ground floor, where I buy ds everything with dinosaurs on! I'm easily put off by shops which put kids' stuff upstairs.

Wood Green also has an independent kids' shop called Infantasia, but they were really strange with us when we tried to buy a replacement Maclaren raincover there, both about that and about disturbing the clothing display.

HKZ, if you do brave Wood Green's shops let me know, maybe we could meet for coffee (best places M&S Revive but only one toilet, and the Wetherspoon's pub at the northern end of the shops - sounds odd I know, but lots of highchairs, changing facilities, plenty of toilets for heavily pregnant women! And a good choice of refreshments whether you want a meal or a snack).

treedelivery · 12/01/2009 00:01

Thats it I'm moving. Have the seaside here but I'm the least out doorsie person on the planet.

Mooosiieeeee where are you?

I just had a proper contraction. Not a niggle or a tightning a proper 'Oh yes this is very different' one. Just need one in another 5 mins and then every 5 mins for 10 hours or so. It seems very unlikely and yet she has to come out.....

I was going to request c/section earlier in preg [before pelvic pain was cured by moving breech to cephalic and before I sorted out a few things with anaes clinical lead]. I'd be having it in the morning. sigh.

hkz · 12/01/2009 00:05

Thanks elkiedee! Oh I wish I had know about the H and M there, have been far too lazy to buy many maternity clothes and kept meaning to go to H and M in oxford street but could never quite face it! Love thier baby stuff too.
Will let you know if I make it up there...might try for wednesday, as it's my due day and I seem to have left everything to the last minute..so might as well tempt fate too!

EachPeach- Happy birthday!

Right...am off to bed.

hkz · 12/01/2009 00:09

Ohh...hold on a minute...just noticed your post Tree....Good luck...hope its the real deal!

Thanks for the car seat link..looks like a good one that will last the duration too.
at you for living by the sea...I really miss living by the sea....

Right...really am going to bed..

Shanster · 12/01/2009 01:45

Good luck tree we all need to get moving here. I have made no progress and am more than a tad fed up. Stupid full moon doesn't seem to have done the job for any of us!!

treedelivery · 12/01/2009 02:42

Wonder if any of you are up and maybe brewing? We're all so tired here [dh in particular] and the night is really wild and cold and windy. Might just go to bed and pretend nothings happening. Maybe nothing is! Urgh!

Bloody moon. That can bugger off as well. Am in severe grump which is no way to herald a labour!

Keep thinking of Caroline Flint telling us to imagine we are flower buds opening up. That can bugger off too. Harumph!

fymandwhenisthisbabycoming · 12/01/2009 07:39

morning - how are you doing tree?
