Tee2072 · 04/02/2009 16:09

Okay, running right out and buying breast pads! No leaking here yet! Now I'm going to be worrying about it all day tomorrow in my board meeting!

As for weight, I've gained about 10 lbs, was about a stone overweight before hand.

Can I get a little wishing for NI snow for tomorrow so I can have a free day off for my birthday? Thank!

flynn1984 · 04/02/2009 17:19

Hiya all - did anyone else see BBC news this morning discussing mumsnet? It was kinda interesting

Just thought i'd let you all know my scan went well! Baby is perfectly healthy, only prob is a part of placenta is low lying so i have to go for another scan in 14 weeks...not that I mind another chance to see my baby.

Also found out the gender and its a GIRL! doctor said I dont think I can tell the gender as the baby's legs are closed then all of a sudden they opened as if she wanted us to find out

Can't remember who mentioned about needing to wiggle but I had to as well to turn the baby over, couldn't get a good look at the spine so had to stick my big bum in the air and wiggle it was kinda embarrassing but at least the baby turned!

I will try and catch up with posts later, looks like its been a busy day on here.

chocciedooby · 04/02/2009 17:33

Hiya everyone.
Poor you Ineedmorechocnow. That fall must have hurt. Don't worry about baba though. it is nicely protected as I'm sure you know. I feel down a 6ft manhole when 9 weeks pregnant with DS2 and he survived! Also, I have turned into a complete and utter cry baby over so many things. (I am not calling you a cry baby by the way). The smallest things make me very emotional.

Congratulations Flynn. A lovely baby girl!!!

Leaky boobs blimey... Will be keeping my eye on them now.

zozokat · 04/02/2009 19:34

Hi all

I'm new here, due June 12 so just introducing myself!

Flynn1984, I caught the very end of that mumsnet segment on the news after turning off my prenatal exercise DVD, nice coincidence.

Going for my '20 week' scan (a little late) tomorrow, very excited to see the baby again!

Katherine

flynn1984 · 04/02/2009 20:06

hiya zozokat good luck with your scan tomorrow!

LittleSarah · 04/02/2009 20:07

zozokat - Welcome and well done with your exercise dvd, I need to get my yoga one on more!

Flynn - Whoop whoop! A gorgeous wee girl!

ermintrude13 · 04/02/2009 21:15

Welcome to the June mums zozkat! Flynn, aw, a little girl to look forward to! When my first DC was born I remember holding on to her whilst sitting on a birthing stool to pass the placenta (yummy) and DH saying - are you OK? and me just closing my eyes and smiling, saying 'I've got my girl!' I have 4 younger sisters and don't get on with my older bro so was a tiny bit worried about having a boy - one of the reasons I didn't find out the sex at the scan - and so as well as just being pleased she was a healthy baby I was also relieved. I'm sure I'd have been just as happy if I'd had a boy - and my lovely DS is the apple of my eye - but I remember that moment very distinctly.

Tee, I'm doing a snow dance in your direction right now

Juicygirlpink · 04/02/2009 22:05

Flyn- Big congrats on your little girl big

zozo- welcome! You have joined a lovely bunch here, i joined on monday & everyone is so great !!! We are due within 4 days of each other, in fact my original due date was the 12th! How have you been so far? Hope you are feeling well? Best of luck tomorrow, are going to find out??? Where are you having baby?

night all off to bed!

chocciedooby · 05/02/2009 10:24

Hi everyone.
Welcome ZOZO and Congratulations

I was a bit bold last night and bought a Jane Travel System. dh not impressed but I got a great deal and paid for it with my Christmas present money . Can't wait for it to arrive!

Tee2072 · 05/02/2009 11:21

Morning all.

ermintrude's snow dance worked, but not early enough to prevent me from being at work! So here I am in my board meeting!

Its very disconcerting to be discussing our tenants while being kicked! I think the baby is trying to entertain itself because it is as bored as I am!

Welcome to the new mummies!!

ermintrude13 · 05/02/2009 11:31

Sorry about that Tee, I did my best .

Hope you have a great birthday anyway! xx

June2009 · 05/02/2009 13:37

Happy Birthday Tee

Welcome zozokat hope your scan went well, let us know!

ineed I hope your hip is not too painful since yesterday.

I got a referral from the GP to physio for pevic pains, called them and they said I should get the midwife to refer me instead (seeing her tomorrow) as it woud get to see a "proper" (their word) pregnancy physio quicker then. .

I really hope the wait is not too long, I just need someone to have a look and tell me what to do and what to not do instead of me finding out once it's too late and painful.

choccie the wax wasn't painful, I've had them regularly for years now (too hairy and dark for razors, and imac simply does not work!) I've always bruised easily around the bikini line and she kept saying "oh my! You do bruise easily" and I feared it would be all black and blue but it was fine. I have never been brave enough for a brazilian

I've started a "necessities list" for when the baby comes and I must say I am baffled by prams/car seats and/or travel systems.
Do we have to buy one set now and then change it when the baby is 1yo?
I have signed dh up to a car seat workshop...

Tee2072 · 05/02/2009 14:16

june car seats are totally baffling me, because I don't have a car! Apparently not all seats fit in all cars, so if I buy one, for the few times the baby will be in a taxi, I have no way of knowing if it will fit the taxi. Of course, the law says taxis are exempt, because it is nearly impossible to enforce, but that doesn't mean its safe to not have one!

Then there is the part of me going, well none of us had car seats when we were kids! We often rode in the way back of a station wagon!! What's the occasionally taxi ride?

So I'm totally confused!

Thanks for the birthday wishes all!

flynn1984 · 05/02/2009 14:20

Happy Birthday Tee shame your not at home with your feet up...have a great day

bigcar · 05/02/2009 14:29

Afternoon all

happy birthday tee

June, glad you're getting your referral sorted, let us know how you get on with the midwife. The car seats you get with travel systems are the carry ones with the handle and can be used for the first 9 - 12 months, then you get the next size up (group 1) that lasts until about 3/4 years of age and stay permanently in the car. What kind of buggy/pram you get depends on what you will be doing most, either walking, car or public transport and budget of course We have one of those big mothercare worlds near us that stock a huge range of pushchairs, very useful for feeling the size and weight of the ones you like the look of, they'll also check car seats will fit in your car and pushchairs in your boot. Having said that, they are not the cheapest place to buy, so look elsewhere for a better price

Hope you're not feeling too bruised today ineed. We are still fairly much covered in snow, the novelty is starting to wear off now It wouldn't be so bad if the council had cleared the footpaths, but as they haven't cleared a lot of the roads yet.......

leaky · 05/02/2009 14:45

Hi all,

haven't been on for a wk & not time to catch up right now as have to leave for school run but just wondered....do es anyone know the proper name for the plastic breast cups you used to beable to get to wear in your bra while breastfeeding.I used to have so much milk leaking from the boob I wasn't feeding from so I would collect it to freeze but can't find them. Not in Mothercare catalogue anyway.

Must go,check in later.Cheers.

chocciedooby · 05/02/2009 14:58

Happy Birthday Tee! June2009 I still think you are brave getting a wax down below. I have never done it but have been tempted at times. I just don't think I could bring myself to do it whilst pregnant. What with bits being swollen there there etc .

I have always used travel systems. I just find them very handy, particularly if you are in the car a lot and don't want to wake baby up all the time when popping in and out. You can clip the car seats onto the chassis or into the pushchairs and baba stays asleep. I have just bought the Jane slalom with matrix cup car seat. Never used one before but wanted to treat myself as last baba and other travel system was caput. The matrix cup can be used as a normal rear facing car seat for babies but can also be laid flat in the back seat of car so baby is flat and happy.

Kids normally last until they are about 3/4 yrs old in second stage car seats and then they go onto a booster type seat unitl they are about 11 (I think). These ones are handy as you simply put the seat belt across. There is a web site www.britax.co.uk and you can use their fitfinder to check what seats fit best in your car.
Just ate 4 toasted sandwiches and baba is kicking like crazy .

daisy5 · 05/02/2009 15:23

june - I was very overwhelmed by it all when I was pregnant. Some people would say you need a moses basket, others would put them straight into a cotbed. It was a tad confusing what to do.

This is the conclusions I came to - the others might have some other words of wisdom to add:

Babyseat: yes, you need a baby car seat which lasts them until about 9 months. We bought a Maxi Cosi as it fits into some pram frames, so when dd was asleep I could whip the car seat out of the car and into the frame. Half the time DD woke anyway, as the motion of the car had stopped, but when she was quite tired it worked quite well. But really, just a nice to do, not an absolutely necessary. Also, Britax now make a child seat which lasts from 9 months to 9 years - the 1-2-3-Evolva I think. At 3-4 years you make a few changes that makes it suitable for older children.

Pram: Bloody saga this one. We almost broke up over the the pram. In the end we got a pram that then converted into a buggy (Bugaboo). In the shop they told me I would use the pram function for 4-5 months and then the buggy until 3 years, and that it was very important for babies to be able to lie absolutely flat (but now I know so many people with double buggies - where the baby doesn't lie absolutely flat - which are just fine i.e. Phil & Ted, Jane). In fact after about 2 months she was getting a bored with lying down and at 3 months we converted it to the buggy. Also, at about 2 years she was starting to get too tall for the buggy, as was donking her head on the top, so now she spends most of her time in a McLaren. Some friends who are almost certain they are going to have a second child quite soon after buy the double Jane but use it as a single for the timebeing, until number 2 comes along. This probably works for other double 'travel systems' too I guess.

Oh, I am probably boring you going on about this.

Thumper hasn't kicked since last night so all feels too quiet this morning. tee - the first time I felt my dd kick was at 22 weeks and I was in a meeting, and I got so excited I just wanted to interrupt the meeting to tell them all that my baby had kicked!

Ineed - oh honey, I hope you are not all black & blue today. What a horrible fright you must have got. I almost slipped walking to nursery and felt a bit vulnerable. I'm told they are not gritting the pavements in some places and it's all very dangerous.

Who is still to have their scan? zozo today, anyone else?

A little girl flynn - how lovely, I adore my little girl.

Hello mrsmcjnr

Guess what - I just got kicked. Phew.

daisy5 · 05/02/2009 15:25

Oh and - I have put on 1 1/2 stone!!!! About 8.5 kilos. How bad is that!!! I was doing really well until Christmas/New Year and that is responsible for over half a stone. Also, I just love chocolate usually, but right now I lust after it with a vengeance. I could polish off an entire large block of Fruit & Nut quite easily.

Juicygirlpink · 05/02/2009 15:31

Hi all

Just back from pg yoga- feeling very relaxed & in much need of a cuppa & a choccie muffin

chocciedoobie- glad to see I am not the only one going for gold on the 'travel system' front, i think thats its so exciting going out & getting baba;s essentials they will all be here very soon!!

Tee- HAPPY BIRTHDAY hope that you are going to be spoilt by your dp when you get in from work!

June09- I am with you on the waxing! I still go & have the old bikini line & legs done & my beauty lady says my hairs are coming out more easily now I am pg! I have changed how high I go now - if you know what I mean
I hope your refferal comes through quickly & they get you sorted.
please tell where did you find out about car seat workshops? my dh would love that - he got to choose our car seat...black, i went for the birghtest pram on the market!!!

Juicygirlpink · 05/02/2009 15:41

daisy5, just read your msg on bugaboo's thats some sound advice, its interesting to know that it might not last us the time that the manufacturers predict. I am still really happy with my little contraption but it just sounds as though I may have to buy another one at some point- which is just as exciting! Before we even talked of babies I knew I wanted a bugaboo!!

weight wise as i said i wasn't asking people so they got upset or to compare ourselves to each other in any way I am just interested in general especially as I say to my midwife each time i speak to her how much i have put on she always says 'thats really good', which doesn't mean anything!I think if i had put 10 stone on she would still say 'that's really good' (well maybe not 10!) And we must remember we are all different & so are our babes!!!

Thanks for a great informative message daisy5! x

ermintrude13 · 05/02/2009 16:21

I bought a Britax Rockatot carseat for my first DC, used it for DS, it's 'done' 3 nieces and is on its way back for this babe. Dead easy to fit, great for taking teenies out and about from car to house and back again. They prob don't make them anymore!

I never fancied a 'system' but I guess that when I was first looking (10 yrs ago) they weren't that impressive. And this time I'm calling in all my old kit and getting lots of extra stuff that's been accumulated by sisters and friends, including clothing for either sex until at least the age of five, so will be spending absolutely zero on this baby!

leaky is that why you're called leaky? . I know the things you mean but can't remember what they're called. Maybe check out a specialist site like La Leche League who may have info? I sometimes expressed whilst feeding on the other side but it can be tricky with a hand-pump!

Lovely to hear about all these kicking babies. DH and both DC have felt it now, and that's with anterior placenta; I think it must be kick-boxing

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 05/02/2009 16:55

June - I have a FAB booklet about SPD that my physio gave me - it's full of advice for what to do / not to do etc. I can photocopy it and post it to you, if you like. Let me know, and I'll give you my email address.

We bought a travel system - the Mamas and Papas one. It was great, though we didn't use it as a pram for very long as DS was a curious thing and wanted to look around all the time and found it frustrating on his back.

We have the Maxi Cosi Tobi seat (for 9 months - 3/4) for DS now and you can still move it to other cars quite easily, if you need to.

Feel sore today. My hip's as bad as it was before the fall, so no change there. My arm is really sore though. I must have come down much harder on it than I thought! Oh well, housework is out of bounds for a while... damn....

OP posts:
leaky · 05/02/2009 17:19

ermintrude13 no,that's not why I'm called leaky.Think where else you might leak from after 2 kids! I've already started my pelvic floor this time round

Talking about prams etc,I've spent most of today looking on the web at them.As it's my 3rd child I don't want to spend a fortune but really like the look of the Silver Cross 3D complete Pram System on the mothercare website. It's reduced too.But will probably accept my friends kind offer of her Britax travel system.I love rear facing ones & think it's important for my baby to see me too.

June2009 · 05/02/2009 19:04

Thanks ineed, that would be really great. I'm still hoping the physio will say "that's not spd, you just stretched a ligament with all that walking, here we go, all fixed now!"...
I don't have CAT, do you?

dh says if it's an official nhs document I might be able to find it online?

I think we should go to mothercare this weekend to have a look at travel systems, hopefully they'll have a keen/bored salesperson who knows them inside out.

oh dear, I thought I was getting the hang of it but dh just mentionned "isofix" and now I feel like I need to lie down.

juicy I'll check where that workshop is tomorrow with the mw. They said most of them are at the birth centre (ridgeway/chase farm)

daisy last time I looked I'd put on 16 pounds (@ 22w).
