Thanks for the tip Doris - will check out that thread right now.

June I meant to say, it's worth trying to take probiotics when you're on antis - to make sure that some of the goody guys aren't blitzed too. I did this last time I had to take antibiotics and didn't get the stomach upsets I usually do. A pot per day of probiotic yoghurt should do it. Hope you're better soon.

flynn1984 · 26/01/2009 21:49

OMG Doris that thread is so funny and revolting at the same time I couldn't stop laughing DH is scared I'll post anything but it's no where near as bad as dash's ex's! Thanks for the link I needed a laugh

ermintrude13 · 26/01/2009 21:57

I had to add to that thread; it brought back certain memories. Don't read any of it before eating though!

June2009 · 26/01/2009 23:56

Next scan on wednesday, not long to go now. I'm praying they don't find any other markers. I'm trying to focus on the fact that it should be detailed enough to tell us for sure wether it's a boy or a girl.
We haven't told any of our relatives or friends about the fiasco of the last scan, it seems easier that way, deny and pretend nothing happened. (I'm gonna need a therapist eventually won't I ;).
I am very grateful for all the support here!

Thanks ermintrude I'll try the yoghurts tomorrow, I would have never thought about that!

I took 2 paracetamol and my headache is almost gone, good time to catch up.

doris re: the accountant, you're right you know. In hindsight I think there is enough stuff I wasn't totally happy with anymore to soften the blow. (Having to fight and find out for myself about SMP being one of them).

helpive Where did you go on holiday by the way?

Tee How is your rocking chair? :D

Flynn have you had you other ultrasound yet?

mrsmcjnr It is my aim, one day, to catch up with everyone the way you do

For now though time to go to bed!

LittleSarah · 27/01/2009 08:48

Hey

Scan yesterday went well, all looked fine. Slightly embarrassing moment when she couldn't get a good shot of profile and I had to put my hips in the air and shake them to try and get baby to move (twice). It didn't work of course. So amazing to see so much detail; the heart with four chambers, spine, hands, feet, face and everything!

We didn't ask the sex but dh is sure he saw it's a boy. I am less sure myself, I thought I may have seen a little penis near the beginning of the scan but I wasn't positive. Dh thinks he saw it a lot, I reminded him about the umbilical cord and he said no he saw that too. Grrrr. Honestly I really wanted a surprise but now I'm beginning to wish I'd just asked so at least would know for sure! Dh has always thought he is genetically programmed to have male children (due to his father/grandfather and so on having only brothers)....

Hey to everyone!

ermintrude13 · 27/01/2009 09:33

Morning all

LittleSarah, glad the scan went well, and am picturing your horizontal tango to get the babe moving, LOL .

DH and I were both convinced we'd seen testicles on the 20 wk scan of our first DC, who turned out to be DD. Labia can be v swollen at that stage so it looks like there's 'something there' that we assumed was a penis. We had decided not to find out the sex so neither of us mentioned it, but were v surprised at the birth!

June, hoping all will be well at your next scan, and that you take comfort in some of these postings about other anomaly scans that have flagged up markers which turn out to be no problem. I understand about not wanting to phone all your friends right now to discuss it - it would be too stressful and besides, that's what Mumsnet is for!

leaky · 27/01/2009 11:15

Hi all.Went for my scan yesterday & it was so emotional. You may remember me going on in past threads how I have 2 boys & we tried this time for a girl, with timing of conception.Well walking along to the hospital I found myself saying,"it's a boy,it's a boy".We went in & I ended up in tears telling the sonographer how much I hope for a girl but trying to be realistic, after all there's 80% chance of another boy after having 2.Well.....it's a....not sure if I should let it out on here as we're not telling anyone GIRL!!!! They even got 2 sonographers to check it for me as I was so frightened to believe it!
Now I feel a bit guilty about the disappointment I would have felt if it had been a boy,so I feel bad for the baby boy who doesn't exist!Der
Having another check at 32wks because of my age just to make sure all is still well so I'll beable to have another peek then & then hit the shops

Hope everyone else has been pleased with their results too

loooouise · 27/01/2009 11:46

Wow Leaky, CONGRATULATIONS!! I'm so happy for you, I remember you posting and saying that you'd babydanced with this in mind! Great result!
Do you mind me asking exactly how many days before you OVd you BFd? I'm pretty sure I ovulated 3 days AFTER the deed, as I remember going for a long run and having to stop because of OV pain. So hopefully that means I'm having a girl too!
I'm just back from my scan too, and must tell you June that the lovely sonographer made a big fuss of saying before he'd put the gel on that I wasn't to panic if they found any soft markers, as it was very common.
Lol Sarah about you having to jiggle, I had to do that at 12 weeks, but baby was very busy this time, so I stayed still. S/he absolutely refused to turn round and let me see his/her face though!
Oh, its legs were crossed, which a sonographer told my friend is a near 100% sign that it's a GIRL!!! Can any of you who are gender-aware please tell me if this is true??
Oh, it's all so exciting! I am smiling my head off!

LittleSarah · 27/01/2009 12:22

leaky and looouise - Glad the scans went so well, and lovely that you're having a girl leaky!

Oh and no idea about crossed legs meaning a girl sadly, in no time at all you'll be able to see for yourself!

June2009 · 27/01/2009 12:33

Ooh, thank you very much loooouise for thinking of me, it's reassuring to know a sonographer said it before the scan rather than after (otherwise you beleive they're only saying it to make you feel better.)

leaky Congratulations!! Really glad you're having a girl! You shouldn't feel guilty, I had a gut feeling I am having a boy and when the sonographer said "maybe a girl" I was elated just the same, no disappointment whatsoever.

Very busy day today, thankfully managed to get through the income tax line who were very helpful so that's something less to worry about now and we're quite positive about changing accountant, hopefully the new one will help us manage our money better!

Doris I had a look at the AIBU thread first thing this morning (what was I thinking, you did warn us), definitely a thread for later on during the day

flynn1984 · 27/01/2009 13:04

Leaky & Louise great to hear about your wonderful scans and congrats leaky that your having a girl now you can start buying the dresses and pinky things

June thats good that your worries are easing regarding accountant and inland revenue. I will be thinking of you all day tomorrow...sending hugs and good vibes

Doris I was nearly sick at some of the things on that thread last night but it was so funny I couldn't stop reading the posts DH is terrified that i'll spill the beans on him, although there is not much to report sadly

I cant wait till my scan next week 1 week and 20 hours to go (not that i'm counting)

Although this is my first I'm hoping its a wee girl as my family and DH's family are full of boys and a girl would make a nice change....does anyone believe that symptoms can tell what gender your baby is? Dont get me wrong tho if it is a boy i'll be over the moon (matching thread title) considering the in September (1 week before i fell pg) I was told by my GP and hospital consultant there was a possibility i'd never be able to have kids of my own and at 24 years of age that was a hard thing to accept.
My aunt (blood relative) has never been able to have kids and my other aunt (not blood relative) is going through IVF in March so i'm very thankful I got my problems check out when I did

Sorry guys for going way off topic here!!

daisy5 · 27/01/2009 13:17

leaky - so so happy for you...and how nice of them to get two sonographers to check. I asked mine to check twice before 'I start buying boys stuff'. Got to say - his weenie was fairly distinctively shaped so my dp was surprised I asked her to double check. How lovely for your little dd to have two big brothers.

loouise - it's so exciting isn't it. I'm still smiling from twelve days ago.

littlesarah -lol at your hip jiggling. I just prodded mine a lot but it didn't do much good. Wanted to snooze. Your husband wouldn't be the first person to be proven wrong about the sex.....

June - pleased to hear you are going to University College tomorrow. I bet it is a totally different experience. I imagine they have some really great equipment there. Thinking of you. And maybe a good time to get a new accountant - having a new baby and having an accountant you didn't entirely have faith in, might not be a good combination. With unemployment being higher than usual, you may find someone really good.

ermintrude - thanks for buggy board advice. I might raise the subject on the product thread, as getting such mixed opinions on the subject.

daisy5 · 27/01/2009 13:21

oh, and flynn - most of the indicators pointed towards me having a girl....except the fact I feel so good (which is supposed to indicate a boy).

Heart rate - if higher then supposed to be a girl
Cravings - sweet things = girl, sour/savoury = boy
Chinese - your age + month of conception, odd number = boy
Lousy pregnancy = girl

Something like that anyway....isn't there something about the shape of your bottom or something as well...

Tee2072 · 27/01/2009 13:24

Hi All

Yay to everyone with wonderful scans. Almost 1 week to the second until mine! I can.not.wait. Although I am feeling so much baby movement, I as sure as I can be that everything is okay in there!

leaky my mum is positive I am having a girl, after I told her that we BD the day before I ovulated. DH and I have decided we don't want to know. Congrats to you!

june didn't get my rocking chair yet. [sad} My in laws did not come down Friday as planned as my DH's great aunt's flat was robbed last week and they pushed this poor 91 year old woman over and broke her hip. So inlaws were in Glasgow instead, sorting that out. So it was a bad week for Aunts in the Tee household.

I took yesterday off after hearing about my Aunt, but today I am back at work. And totally exhausted and nauseous. I said to the office in general today 'I wish it was June and this Damn Baby was out of me!' The men were shocked I would say such a thing. The women with children just nodded!

dreamydowler · 27/01/2009 14:32

Hi all. Had a bad night last night dont think I got more than an hours sleep. My dp works nights and I got a phone call just after midnight to say he had been rushed to A and E with chest pains. Thankfully it was an angina attack as opposed to anything more serious but has made me realise that choosing to have a baby in our 40s means we had better start sitting up and doing something about our health. Im going to have a lot of weight to lose after this baby and could do with dp packing up smoking I wish there was a magic solution for him as he seems to find it impossible. Any grat tips anyone?

By the way louiisse my younest dd age 2 had her legs crossed at the 20 week scan luckily due to my age I had another scan later on when they revealed she was a girl. Got my scan tomorrow cant wait

loooouise · 27/01/2009 15:17

Gosh Dreamy that sounds AWFUL. Poor you. Is your dp still in the hospital? How frightening for you. Not what you need right now. My dad stopped smoking a year ago at the age of 56. He was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and that scared him enough to tackle it. He also got hold of the US anti-addiction drug Ziban (sp?) which isn't regulated here but is very effective.

YOu've got me all excited about your dd having her legs crossed!!! (Although I should add I would be delighted with a boy, I just think a wee girl might be easier in my single household...)

Tee2072 · 27/01/2009 15:22

dreamy tell him to call his GP and get Champix. It is an oral medication. My DH took it in 2007 and he hasn't smoked a day since!! It really works!

dreamydowler · 27/01/2009 20:43

thanks Tee and Loouise will definitely be looking into both those medications. He is home now but very tired. I had never heard of girls having their legs crossed but my dd had her legs right up in the air with her ankles crossed.

flynn1984 · 27/01/2009 20:49

dreamy just been catching up I hope your DH is on the mend...sending love and hugs to you

MrsMcJnr · 27/01/2009 21:07

Daisy ? I have kept everything of DS?s I guess when I was buying him things (though actually I only bought white vests and babygros and the rest were presents, I only started buying clothes for him about 3 months ago, we were very spoilt ) I had lots of babies in mind like you, many of the early outfits are almost if not totally unworn. We were given little jeans and shirts and shoes (I had about 6 pairs!) and I just felt that DS looked uncomfy in them or that the jeans chaffed his skin so he really only wore babygros until he was 6 weeks old I wish we?d started earlier too, I am 35 so they?ll need to be close in age if we want another two. Feel very greedy saying that when I know so many people struggling just to have one Not seen any cowboys at the park

Ermintrude ? I can see the benefit in what you and your friends do with clothes, very sensible and practical but I am just too sentimental to part with anything yet

June ? feeling any better? Sorry to hear about your accountant quitting stress is no good for pg ladies!! But as Doris says, didn?t sound like a very knowledgeable one anyway. Not sure about the penicillin and paracetamol sorry. All the very best for tomorrow x

Choccie ? I had tons of chocolate ice cream just before DS was born, was told that it is a great energy food sorry if I?ve asked before but did you have a double buggy?

Flynn ? hey there, I?m confused why quite envious of me? hope the training day went ok. I enjoyed reading your post; it?s nice to get some insight into each other?s lives. How sad that you were told that by the Drs it just shows what miracles babies are though

Doris

Littlesarah ? yay congrats on the good scan, I wonder if you?ll keep guessing at the sex its funny I so adamantly didn?t want to know with DS but really did this time. Next time I?d like another surprise, after all, I?ll have clothes for either At my scan the Dr practically had me standing on my head eating sugar lumps to get the baby moving!!

Leaky ? fab news, you must be sooooo excited congrats!!

Loooouise ? re predicting could well be a girl!! Last time round we covered all bases so couldn?t predict but this time I was pretty sure it was a girl too that?s interesting about the crossed legs, this baby had her legs crossed throughout the scan, not heard that one before!

Tee ? how awful about DH?s great Aunt personally I?d say that BDing the day before OV could go either way!

Dreamy ? what a horrible shock for you and your DP I hope he is feeling much better. All the best with the scan

flynn1984 · 27/01/2009 21:29

mrsmcjnr envious in a way that you are able to keep up with absolutely everything that happens on here, I'm lucky to even keep up with 1 post now rather than everything if you know what i mean

LittleSarah · 27/01/2009 21:39

Flynn - I don't think you can tell sex by symptoms. Maybe if you had had 5 boys and felt rubbish and then with the 6th pregnancy you felt fine that could mean something!

For me I felt pretty A Ok with dd, this pregnancy I had a lot more sickness/tiredness, so that's another reason I'm leaning towards a boy, but that's just me IYKWIM.

Who knows really! It's fun to try and work it out. I'm always jealous of the people who just know. I see them on here all the time, "I just knew I was having a girl", etc, etc. I just have NO idea!

ermintrude13 · 28/01/2009 08:44

Dreamydowler, hope your DH is feeling better today, what an awful shock for you all .

Flynn, just goes to show that sometimes Drs know diddly-squat - or rather, nature can always surprise them. My SIL was told she could never have kids and when she fell pg the drs (in Paris) said it was a blighted ovum and to forget about it. It wasn't till 20 weeks that they believed her! 2 DDs later she's very relieved they were wrong.

My friend's DS was breech and whenever they scanned him he was like Dreamy's DD - legs up in the air, ankles crossed like a yoga position! A MW friend told me that babies who are like that in utero sometimes try to keep their legs close to their bodies in the same position for a day or two after birth.

Symptoms don't seem to relate to genders at all. With my DD I was sick nearly every day till term but rarely felt nauseous. With DS I felt sick all the time but rarely puked. With this one I feel sick all the time AND throw up. Maybe it's a hermaphrodite

daisy5 · 28/01/2009 09:44

I was just having some fun with the gender thing - in a lighthearted way.

leaky · 28/01/2009 09:52

Morning all

loooouise I don't mind you asking at all.We stopped BDing 3 days before OV but did do it most nights up to that. Then my friend told me on the weekend that male sperm can live upto 3 days too so I was beginning to panic then.

Thanx everyone for your congrats .It's still so hard to believe my dream has come true. Will sink in more at next scan I think. Not sure about the legs crossed theory. For a while the sonographer couldn't tell thou cos my beautiful little baby girl was in breech position with her ickle legs tucked under her soft tiny bottom, lol. Not sure if they were crossed thou.
