DorisIsAPinkDragon · 23/01/2009 15:33

Hi all

daisy I've had a few pushchairs my favourite so far is the Single Jane which is lovely to push and has a lovely ride for the baby, we bought ours a few years ago when we were in spain before the saloms had come out over here.

the jane double (three wheel powertwin)is cumbersome (sold it to my sis)and the jane (4 wheel tandem can't remeber name) is ENORMOUS.

We now have a phil and teds waiting in the loft and it took about 7 days to arrive (so no massive waiting list!!) I looks much like the single Jane only not quite as gucci! with the opening and closing actions etc. If you're loaded there is the new phil and ted vibe aswell although I haven't had my hands on one of those!!

Anyway enough of that expense sat down yesterday and worked out that I think we need a new car to accomodate dc3, we have aCmax which you would think would be big enough but the middle seat is only really a 3/4 seat (i struggle to get in between the 2 car seats even before i became a fatty) and although we possibly could get a V small booster seat in for DD1, she's still only going to be just turning 4 when this one arrives and I would still really like her in a high back booster.

On top of that i've done a bit of research and established that the seats themselves need a reasonable amount of room between each other to prevent what is called buckle crunch i.e. seat hit the buckle of ajacent seat in a crash and it is no longer secured and therefore pointless.... which does seem to be more problematic than i realised.

So dh spent last night researching "mumbuses" which will take all dcs in carseats not touching and all the camping stuff too... oh and fit in our realtively short garage, not much of an ask then!!!!! We so far have a (not very short) list of seven, watch this space ( think all the newborn first baby stuff may have been a cheaper option ) oh smug me.....

borriebear · 23/01/2009 15:48

Well we had that scan this morning and all is well, we don't know the sex of the baby, but we didn't want to know so that's fine! Got some lovely pics He reassured us about not really feeling anything yet as the placenta is at the front so I don't feel so worried about that now.

flynn hope everything is ok?

ermintrude13 · 23/01/2009 15:55

borriebear glad you had a good scan, and Tee hurrah for great results.

flynn hope the hospital sorts you out.

and everyone else, i'm feeling extremely backward in the organisational stakes, what with all this talk of nurseries and buggies, but keep telling myself i'm not quite 20 weeks and there's loads of time. i just know how little i felt like shopping when i got v big so better not get too complacent. anyway, dd has bagsied the spare room (cos it's bigger than hers) so the new babe will be in with us at first and then move to dd's old room so will save all decorating until then! if it's a girl we won't need to redecorate anyway . now to tell dd that she can't have her new room painted black. what is it with these 10 yr old goths?!

llynnnn · 23/01/2009 17:14

Flynn - hope you are ok, i had a lot of cramp in my legs in my last pregnancy, its awful and soooo painful, so really feel for you. Your nursery looks lovely too, really relaxing

Ermintrude - i havent done any organising yet, we still need to empty all the junk out of the spare room and redecorate it for dd so the baby can have dd's little room. at least with this new baby being a girl we dont have to redecorate that!! the only think i've actually bought for the new baby is a sling, dont think i need much but MUST get organised!

Borriebear - glad your scan went well and that you have been reassured about the movements

Doris - eek a new car! sounds expensive! at least with the way the markets are at the mo, you seem to be able to get a good deal on most cars.

tee - great news about your results! you ringing them yesterday must've had some effect to get them today!! sometimes these people just need a little reminder!!

mrsmcjnr - Happy 1st Birthday to your little boy! hope you all have a lovely day tomorrow

Ineed - i am totally with you on how knackering having a toddler and being pregnant is! I do feel better tho if I FORCE myself out the door in the mornings and do something with dd even if its just a little walk

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

flynn1984 · 23/01/2009 17:17

hiya all

Just back from hospital and still got the cramps in my leg. had an ultrasound done on my leg and they couldn't find a clot which is good, but they say it could be in very early stages so I have to go back next week for another one.
Midwife decided to hear the baby's HB again but baby was wanting to play, everytime the mw found it the baby would move to another area and mw would lose the hb it was fun to hear

Tee wonderful results you got back!!!!!

llynnnn · 23/01/2009 17:22

Flynn - its great that they are looking after you so well and that you got to hear the heartbeat again (sounds like you have a little monkey there tho! ) hope you are ok and get some rest this weekend

chocciedooby · 23/01/2009 17:37

My little bud is going crazy inside right now . Can't believe it. I have felt very slight movements for the last few weeks but this is definate kicking going on and one took me completely by surprise. I love it

Maybe its trying to tell me it's time for dinner!

Tee they are great results. You must be delighted.

Mrsmcjnr - have fun tomorrow.

Flynn - hope all is ok. I get cramps but not that severe. Poor you . Sure you are in good hands though.

Doris - I am getting obsessed about wanting a single Jane and your post has made me want one more . I am keeping my eye out all the time for one on ebay now. Need it to be in Ireland or Norhtern though. Thinking of travelling up to Belfast to see if can get a good deal there as everything is way too expensive in Dublin.

MrsMcJnr · 24/01/2009 00:15

Ermintrude ? LOL I like the name Lola but DH says no way and sings that song, but really so many years on, no one from this baby?s generation would know that song!! More likely to think it is off the kids? programme! PMSL that posh people call their ?lady garden? lala I?ve heard Nunu and Flower but not lala

Bigcar ? my DS would love to be called Iggle Piggle great name for a Guinea Pig I think! very at you seeing your baby move, I barely feel mine still that placenta is getting in the way!!

Littlesarah ? sorry to hear about your MMC I know what you mean about the type of baby, I plan to re-read The Baby Whisperer very soon, it gave great advice which I used with DS.

Sweetbroody ? I know hon, it is hard to relax and enjoy a pregnancy after a loss but it is such a special time and you will look back with affection I had a horrible dream about DH last night too, woke up crying and shaking and had to wake him up to console me, he wasn?t impressed! Lovely news re your Aunty won?t her baby be a 1st cousin once removed or a second cousin to yours? (I have a similar situation in my family and have been trying to work it out!) That?s interesting about the way you chose a name in your culture

Strawberrysam ? that?s great news about the lack of bleeds LOL at the names. My anterior placenta has moved up a bit thankfully (now grade 1) so Dr says it shouldn?t be a problem ? phew!

LOL at you two and your innuendo chat

Llynnnn ? lots of babies due in your family that?s a shame about the name Lauren

Tee ? LOL I remember getting up in arms last time when I had an ?early pg? physio class at 18 weeks but actually, it was really helpful, hope you find the same how annoying about the delay with your test results but great results

Ineedmore ? sorry to hear you are still not well

Hey Choccie I know what you mean about eBay, the Spanish one is rubbish!

Daisy ? Really glad your scan went well my DH was turned off by the bump last time too, he thought he?d hurt the baby. That went out of the window when I went 9 days overdue and made him perform daily I do actually hear ?Mandy? the song a lot, weird isn?t it? I have a beige and cream bugaboo with the green foot muff, love it

Flynn ? the nursery looks really lovely how exciting!! Hope you are ok.

Doris ? we are moving at the beginning of May so no nursery set up here either. Lots of investigation going on in your house! I fancy the First Wheels City Elite Twin.

June ? I am so sorry that your scan and the treatment you were given by the staff was so poor, it must have really added to all the stress.

Snowwombat ? what a busy year for you! I am so sorry to hear about your son enjoy that party! I have 13 people for DS?s 1st tomorrow and am nervous!!

Borriebear ? so glad the scan went well I need to go to the loo all the time too, very annoying!

Tee2072 · 24/01/2009 08:08

Once again, very impressive mrsmcj!! I am in awe.

Question for y'all...I have put on no weight in the last 2 weeks. Should I be worried about the baby not getting any bigger? Or do you think maybe its because my diet is so controlled with my diabetes? I feel lots of wiggles, so I know the baby is okay, but I am worried about its size.

LittleSarah · 24/01/2009 09:41

Tee - I have similar problems to you with weight. At least I did last time and this time seems similar. I have put on weight but over all during the first 21 weeks I think I've put on 3-4Ibs. I spoke to my midwife about lack of weight/average weight gain and she said not to worry, the baby takes what it needs and everyone is different. Still, I don't know if things would be different for you because of your diabetes...

They think I might have another small baby, dd was 5Ib 10oz and totally healthy and is now a energetic, perfectly sized 4 yr old! So I'd say don't worry.

Choccie - Great when the baby really starts making themselves known eh? Tis lovely.

MrsMcJnr - It's great being so far along, feels like it will definitely be happening this time. Looking forward to the scan on Monday.

Tee2072 · 24/01/2009 12:01

Good to know I am not alone littlesarah.

Just got back from shopping. If anyone is still looking for maternity clothes, I got 2 pairs of trousers at H&M for £5 each! Lost of great bargains!

dreamydowler · 24/01/2009 15:41

Hi All . Wow you have all been having a very busy week.

Tee :what good bargains I had to get a couple of pairs of maternity trousers too last week but werent that cheap. Im very impressed. Even though Ive finally stopped feeling sick and the awful flu, Bronchitis and then sinusitus have now all gone and have left me with a huge appetite I too have only put about 3lb on in all I wouldnt worry I bet we will be like beached whales at the end

Choccie: I have been having lots more movements this week especially after Ive eaten something sweet. In fact baby woke me up in the middle of the night with what felt like hiccups lovely

Flynn: I really love the nursery. Im very Baby will be in with us for the first 6 months then if its a girl it will be sharing with dd age 6 by then and dd age 3 by then. If its a boy we are going to have to convert the garage into another bedroom for the older girls when they are home visiting from university and use the small box room which my dd aged 18 this year is using at the moment until she goes to university this autumn. I too get leg cramps in pregnancy and they are often worse at night It can make your muscle ache for a day or so but you definitely did the right thing getting checked out.

Daisy Im really pleased your scan went well. Its nice that you are going to keep the sex a surprise I never found it with my first 4 to my ex husband I think its more logistics now that causes us to find out.

Hope everyone else is very well. My ds age 10 is taking part in a poetry reciting competition today cant wait to hear how he has got on If he gets through to the final he will be filmed for a programme on bbc2.
Is anyone doing anything for chinese new year on Monday I am going to make a meal at home. Found out recently one of my friends is also pregnant she is due about 6 weeks after me I think. Did I mention my dd will be 18 on the 15th june the day before my due date Im going to have to book her party soon and am already anxious about the possibility of not being there.

MrsMcJnr · 24/01/2009 22:18

My little DS had a lovely 1st birthday today I was up until 1.30am last night getting ready for his party so that I could give him all my attention today and I enjoyed every minute of his special day there were 9 adults and 4 babies at his party so not too big but fun he loved us singing happy birthday to him it seems like yesterday that he was born and I was looking back fondly on this day last year.. hope it all goes as well with this baby

I had a wonderful massage yesterday the woman was also a craneo/sacral expert (sorry that might not be the right term in English) and I really felt my baby kicking away whilst I was relaxing, it made the whole experience even better.

I have started to think about the baby?s room (crazy really as we have to move apartment first ) with DS I had/have a jungle theme and got some great bargains on eBay for it. This time I think I?ll go for fairies. I love the Friendship Fairy stickers, anyone seen them or have them already?

Tee ? try not to worry, I am sure the baby is getting all it needs like LittleSarah says

Dreamy ? so glad to hear that you are feeling better how did DS get on? that?s a bit of a quandary re your DD?s 18th!!

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 24/01/2009 22:34

Hi all,

hope you're all doing ok.

Tee I'm sure with the control you have on your diet the baby is ok, esp. if you can feel it moving, when I had really bad MS and was admitted with DD1 the consultant said to me the baby is basically a parasite and it will take absolutely everything it needs even if that leaves very little for you..... not nice way to think of your LO but was true I lost weight but the baby continued to grow!!

Well having spent 4 hours in A&E this morning with DD2 it has put me off hospitals again for a while (a&e is currently undergoing renovations so is chaos) I didn't want dd to play with any of the toys as last time we went to the same hospital we all ended up with rotovirus. So 4 hours trying to keep a 18mth old entertained within the confines of her pushchair or my lap with 2 books and a doll!! Oh and she had something wrong with her hip so we were waaaaaaay down the list and came away not much clearer ( although xrays did seem to rule out fracture). So she's been hobbling around like a little old man all afternoon bless!! ( didn't stop her dancing to space pirates tho'

Ah well back to my car research have ruled out another today as toooooo small but the search goes on for my mumbus!

nightx

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 25/01/2009 07:30

Poor you Doris. We've ended up in A&E a few times with DS (he has febrile convulsions) and it's pretty miserable. He gets seen pretty quickly with the convulsions, but the one time he went in when he bumped his head on a bed frame (charging at it, like a bull!) we waited hours. Hope your DD gets better soon.

We were off out today to a petting farm but the weather here is horrendous so might have to go for something indoors (like the rest of the world - I imagine!). I hope it clears up a bit. Lots of the farm is under cover so it might be all right....

MrsMcjr - your DS's party sounds lovely. I bet this year seems to have flown. I can't believe DS is two now, those years have raced by.

Have now gone into maternity pyjamas as I woke up on Fri night with a huge line across my belly from my pre-pregnancy ones. I HATE maternity pyjamas as mine are all over the bump ones and seem to be made for someone the size of a small hippo and fall down all the time, even though they're the right size. Oh well....

Scan Wed and so bloody nervous and excited, I can't wait!! At least it's 9am so I won't have to wait all day like last time.. Hopefully we'll be able to find out whether it's a boy or a girl....

OP posts:
LittleSarah · 25/01/2009 12:40

Ineed - For the first time in ages I can't wait for a Monday as I have my scan. Cannae wait!

MrsMcJnr - Sounds you had a lovely party, I'm glad it went so well. Meant to mention, I had the Baby Whisperer last time too, think that was it anyway, and I believe it helped me get dd to have a 'bedtime', will no doubt be on amazon again soon.

Doris - Poor you in A&E! I can feel your pain, I hope they manage to work out what the problem is.

Dreamy - Hope the poetry reading went well, very exciting for your ds.

We're supposed to be going to my ma's for Burn's supper tonight but typically I can't reach her on her mobile or at home. Bizarrely I had a dream in which I got justifably furious with her and my two sisters and they are who we'll be eating with this evening...

Tee2072 · 25/01/2009 12:52

Morning all.

Got some bad news. My mother's sister died last night. She has multiple sclerosis and came down with pneumonia. She died in my cousins arms. Both of her children are adults, but it can't ever be easy to lose your mum.

This is the times that I hate being in the UK. There is just no way I can afford in either money or time to go to Boston for her funereal and to be there for my cousin, whom I am very close to.

dreamydowler · 25/01/2009 13:27

Morning everyone. So sorry to hear about the death of your aunt Tee I know you must feel terribly homesick at times like this. My eldest neice lives in australia and is getting married next year There is no way in the world I will be able to afford to go Its such a shame not to be able to be with your family at important times in their lives.

My Ds really enjoyed his day yesterday thanks for all your well wishes but he didnt make it to the national finals. He said the girl that one was very good and extremely dramatic. Im so proud of him for getting to the regional finals though he is 10 but is probably the size of an 8 year old just and it did his confidence the world of good. He had to recite McCavity the mystery cat which we all thought he did brilliantly. His facial expressions and use of voice control was excellent but the drama queen won the day He got lots of goodies for taking part though.

I have my scan Tuesday been feeling baby wriggling more and more. Feel like I have a bit of a tummy bug today though nothing to put my finger on just a bit achy and off my food. The joys of living in such a large household there always seems to be some bug or other to pick up.

Got a new bed for my dd age 17 today and making a start sorting all the rooms out.

redtabby · 25/01/2009 17:12

Hi, just thought I would pop in and say hello, can't recall if I introduced myself on this thread a few weeks ago (I think I may have) but have been both sick and moving house since then so not on Internet much. I'm due 21 June, am having a boy, and this is my first baby despite my being 45 (three previous mcs over past 4 years). I do have two teenaged stepdaughters who live with me though.

Had a CVS at twelve weeks, all chromosomes all fine but can't stop worrying about everything anyway. Having flu which morphed into bacterial sinusitis which transformed into bronchitis (I know how you feel dreamy dowler!) did not help either, and I am still not feeling very well. My big scan is the week after next and I'm very nervous about it. I have not felt the baby move yet but my obstetrician said last week not to worry especially as the placenta is anterior (in the front) and that means you feel movement later anyway. My tummy is sticking out a lot and I can't fit in my clothes any more so hopefully that's a good sign anyway!

So, hello everyone!

flynn1984 · 25/01/2009 18:25

tee - so sorry to hear about your aunt it must be horrble not being with your family at times like this!

littlesarah Good luck with your scan tomorrow hope everything goes ok x

redtabby - Welcome and congrats i hope everything goes ok for you with the baby

Just a quick catch up from me was down in carlisle yesterday visiting my future SIL an was working wih FIL today so off to my bed now to get enough energy for the working week ahead

dreamydowler · 25/01/2009 19:52

Hi redtabby and welcome Im 42 and on my 8th baby Have you seen the 40+mummies thread in the pregnancy section I have had two miscarriages and know just how worried you get I think I will worry less about the effects all that illness has had on baby after my scan which by the way is on wednesday not tuesday like I said earlier. Going to Chester tomorrow shopping I only live 7 miles away but dont go often enough.

MrsMcJnr · 25/01/2009 19:52

Tee ? I am so sorry to hear about your Aunt, awful sending you a huge hug xx

Doris ? poor you and poor DD2, hope her hip gets better soon.

Ineedmore ? those convulsions your DS sound scary hope you managed to go to the farm today. The year really has flown I shall try to remember that when I am up late at night with a newborn who won?t stop crying I love mat pjs, so roomy all the best for Weds and for finding out the flavour of your bean

Littlesarah ? all the best for tomorrow that book really helped me with DS, he was a baby who got terribly over-stimulated by everything, our house in Scotland was a nightmare as we had spot lights everywhere, anyway the book made me realise what it was that was stopping him from sleeping enjoy your Burns? supper we have postponed ours until next Sat we have 10 coming and plan to do all the wee speeches etc we ex-pats are so patriotic

Tee ? I am so sorry to hear about your Aunt, awful sending you a huge hug xx

Dreamy ? ah, bless your DS love McCavity hope you feel better now and that the scan goes well on Tuesday.

Welcome and congrats redtabby glad that you getting better now, hope you are 100% soon. Boys are great by the way, my DS was 1 yesterday and he is my world, he is so funny and I adore every minute I spend with him sorry to hear about your losses, I lost my first baby at 13 weeks and it was the worst experience of my life your step-daughters will be such a great help with your son I have an anterior placenta too, starting to feel more now (I?m 22 weeks) but with DS I felt so much more earlier and so did DH, his placenta was posterior.

Hey Flynn

LittleSarah · 25/01/2009 21:51

tee - so sorry to hear your bad news, must be terrible being so far away at times like these.

dreamy - Sounds like your boy did great! Good luck with your scan on Tuesday.

Redtabby - Welcome! You must be feeling pretty relieved to be halfway (almost) after your miscarriages. I felt so anxious with this one having only miscarried once.

loooouise · 25/01/2009 23:18

Hello fellow Juners! I think this is my first post in about 3 weeks - sorry to have been so slack, just been reading and playing catch up now and it's taken me at least 40 mins! (and that's skimming).

But very glad to hear that everybody is doing well in the main. Tee, was delighted to read your test results but of course very sorry to hear the sad news about your aunt. I really feel of you, it's so hard being far from home at times like this. I hope you're getting plenty of support (and comforting kicks/rolls from baby)

June I was absolutely outraged to read of the way you were treated at the hospital. It sounds like your research has been reassuring though - I hope you are able to keep a positive frame of mind and put a nasty experience behind you.

Sorry to hear about the leg cramps Flynn, I've been suffering too and have found bugger all relief, despite the stretches, warm baths, hot water bottles. Let's hope it's a blip and passes soon...

Well done wonderwoman MrsMcJrn - I can't seem to organise tying my own shoe laces at the moment, let alone a first birthday party!

I am loving this stage of my pregnancy now baby's making its presence very much felt! I have my 20 week on Tues, but had a peek last week during a private scan. I've managed to find a London private clinic who will indulge my paranoia about a weak cervix following a LEETZ last year by only charging £50 for a cervical scan. It's very reassuring. (I know I'm being over-anxious; my consultant was very dismissive of my concerns, but I know I have good company in worrying here!)

Babyfather is behaving very well indeed. It's confusing, when we're together, I do feel, oh maybe we should give this a go, but then he gets back on the eurostar and I go back to my independent life. I hope I don't come across as cold, because it's him who's more reluctant, not me - and believe me, I've had my share of heartache in teh last 5 years. Of course I want the very best for my child, but I'm not sure a shotgun wedding is best. So, no hasty decisions, just taking each day as it comes, but so far, single pregnancy is really quite nice ladies, honest!

Hello to all those I've not formally "met" and happy positive vibes to all!

helpivegottogivebirth · 26/01/2009 03:03

hi everyone
hope all is well. I'v been on holiday for the past 2 weeks so it has been a nice jetlag treat to sit and read all the updates!

Anyway, what an experience - going on a cruise with another couple who do not have children or in any way are they at that stage. I love them dearly but i was beginning to lose patience explaining to them why a meal of melted brie or a massive handful of peanuts was not something i wanted to indulge in. in fact, by the end of the holiday they had successsfully made me feel guilty about being pregnant on their holiday! Grrrr!

My husband and I had a lovely time seeing some sun, sand and sea turtles and enjoying our last holiday just the pair of us, but it is really hard when you have moved on a stage to your best friend and all they want to do is eat sushi and get drunk.

Sorry for me post - just needed to share as I came away seeing my friend i a different light now.
