Sorry LB- didn't mean to ignore your post there...mustn't have seen it. Glad DD is happy... Trust me the whole pregnancy so far my DC's have been 'neglected' first becasue i was barely downstairs for throwing up all the time, then since 20weeks i am finding it hard enough to get to nursery and back to drop & collect DS and get up and down the stairs for the loo, and make meals that the rest of the day i tend to be glued to the sofa... the only 'interaction they currently have with me is the rare occasion they want some quiet time with a book- otherwise i'm just watching them play!! Then becasue i can't tidy up very easily (keeping the house in some sort of order is hard enough) i find myself loosing it a bit too easily when trying to get them to clean up after themselves etc.... they dont like me at the time, but 2mins later they'll be wanting cuddles and kisses so i know they are fine. i can't wait for the next 14wks to go by so i can get back to being me again!!

I know just how you feel though, but they have so much other things to think about that the bad times dont stick!! I mean wouldn't you forget if you got TV and cake!!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 12/01/2009 13:35

Nat i've found a stockist online that i can order from in case of emergency, and I plan to buy from the M&P shop in preston, and if they are out of anything then Nursery World in cleveleys sells them too, and all the accessories too, so i know i can go there. I'm half considering going to buy the accessories from there on friday when i'm out shopping so i know what else i need on monday!!

kayzr · 12/01/2009 13:41

I do think I will give up. I do really enjoy feeding him but it is getting more and more stressful and it is getting me down.

I just feel like I have failed him, if I can't feed him properly can I even do anything right.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 12/01/2009 13:47

dont feel like that Kays... maybe the MW who put him on a bottle so early spoilt his feeding getting better on BF, But you know that YOU have given it a damn good try... I think if i had trouble like you've had i'd do the same as you....

actually, reading that both you and Nat have had a rough time i'm a little worried it'll be tough for me. I know i successfully fed both Dc's for 12mths each.... but not all babies are the same, and it'll be 2yrs since i last BF when DC3 arrives... plus the fact that i've also got 2 Dc's to think about too.... just makes me realise how tough it actually was with the other 2, and what extent i went to to work round it then, thats not really possible this time round....

NatalieJane · 12/01/2009 13:59

Kay, is he happy? Is he healthy? You have not failed him. Not even a little bit.

Glask, my advice, just make sure you have at least one bottle, and a carton of formula just in case, DH had to go out at midnight on a Sunday night to get both of the above, any other night the supermarkets would have been open and had them in stock, we rang NHS direct to find the late chemist, there wasn't one (oh and their advice to get through the night with an 8 day old baby who wasn't getting any breast milk at all was "he might get a bit uncomfortable, but he can wait till 6am till the shops are open again" A bit 'uncomfortable'?????) eventually found a late night garage that miraculously had a bottle and a tub of formula in stock! Mikey was going ape shit, as would anyone with an empty belly, I was in bits (nipples were literally in bits!) t'wasn't much fun! And don't think that having them in the house just incase will mean you'll give in and use them, we had them in just in case for DS2 when he was born, never used them, didn't bother this time thinking it would be as easy again - big mistake!

Sorry bit rambly, have hands full!

tinkhaslessthanaweek · 12/01/2009 14:03

how is it working nat making up one bottle @ a time?
i am planning on bottle feeding from the very beginning.i was going to make up 3 @ a time, dont see how i can make up one @ a time with demand feeding initiolly as wont know when she will want one

kayzr · 12/01/2009 14:06

He is happy and healthy. He has been putting weight on well.

Just need to realise that everything is ok and I've done my best.

NatalieJane · 12/01/2009 14:07

Not too bad Tink, we have wasted the odd one by making it up too early, and it took us a couple of days to get the amounts right, but he seems to have settled at around 2.5-3oz every 3-4 hours, we are cheating a bit and using the ready made cartons at night so that makes it a bit easier, and we take the ready made cartons with us when we go out.

It most deffo is more of a PITA than BF, but you soon get into it.

kayzr · 12/01/2009 14:16

It is quite easy Tink. We just fill all the bottles with water and then we add the powder when he wants feeding.

You can get this to warm the bottles when you go out. It is great!

NatalieJane · 12/01/2009 14:43

Kay, do you have one of those warmers? How long does it take to warm a bottle up? We had a travel one that plugged into the socket in the car with DS1, but it used to take about half an hour to warm it even slightly, is that thing any better?

kayzr · 12/01/2009 14:53

It doesn't take very long at all. It is just a thermos flask that you put hot water in. Its just the same as how we warm them at home.

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 12/01/2009 15:04

Nat -Funny you should say that about being prepared to bottle feed, my sister said the same to me the other day so I got two bottles, and 4 boxes of aptimil as standby.

Glad your DH was able to find bottles and milk! Must have been stressful for you waiting at home!

4 wks til maternity leave and counting the days....

Diege · 12/01/2009 15:36

Hello! Just a quickie from work . Interesting about formula discussion. Was thinking of making up bottle in batches like I have in past, although the 'rules' have changed, so may try the water thing then adding powder later. Have to admit that I resort to the old microwave to heat up , after BIL who is a chemist said hot spots are impossible if you shake well. That's my story and I'm sticking to it
LB sorry you're having such a hard time of it - fwiw I think sick children are so hard to look after when you're feeling ill/down/out of sorts, even in the best of health, and I think you're coping brilliantly. As Nat says, these 6 weeks will pass, and hopefully seem like a distant memory. Cake and TV sounds good!!

KAYZ, you have done brilliantly and you mustn;t feel like you're a failure - most people would have given up bf by now in your situation, and you've done so well to carry on up to now. I'd now ff if I was you, but of course your decision xx

Good to hear from you NAT - sounds like things are settling at your end - late night bottle run sounds a nightmare!! Meant to ask too about your bugaboo bee - how are you finding it? Still can't decide on a colour - warming to the khaki, but wondered if it was more of a green khaki ir a grey? Difficult to see in the piccies.

Hi TINKS! I realise I haven't added my predicitons yet for day/weight; will have a look and add if it's not cheating to leave it so late in the day!

GLASK, I know that panic when you think something you've got your heart on may be out of stock. Think you've got it covered though with back-up stockists etc...
Right, better go, colleagues lurking...

Cosmogirl · 12/01/2009 15:43

GYo - feeling similar re: mat leave. Thought towards end of preg would feel good energy wise and that nausea would have passed by now, but just feel knackered, unmotivated and still sick. I have until the end of Feb though which seems like a lifetime away atthe moment....

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 12/01/2009 15:46

ooh hi diege
I've just ordered a dark kharki bugaboo bee Didnt know nat had one too

Not really dark or greeny. I'd probably call it light kharki. I've got it for unisex as I think it can be boyish or made girly with pink blanket etc.

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 12/01/2009 15:51

Cosmo- its mad isnt it. Feel cheated for having never had the blooming phase of pregnancy - not really sure any of us on the wagon have really though...??

I've really not been as bad as you with the nausea (definately got the short straw) but feel like i've made up for it having what seems like every 3rd trimester symptom! (sorry whinging!) makes me wonder about having number 2 (baby that is!) would you have another after your experience of nausea?

Im working at home today but felt so knackered this morning ahd to go back to bed for 2hrs sleep- cant wait til I can do this without guilt!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 12/01/2009 15:57

cosmo- meant to say, feb will fly by especially once you start thinking about handover activities etc.

keep the countdown going!

Diege · 12/01/2009 15:59

Hi GYO, COSMO . Have to admit that I too thought if you would contemplate any more COSMO after you have been so poorly - you've really suffered, and for so long too .
GYO, thanks for the bee info'! I also thought good for unisex, though I'm sure I'll have a girl going by my track record, though would rather more green than grey...think I might try and see one in the flesh as it were .
I have a tiny sneaky plan forming that you must tell me off about...dh really doesn't want to find out sex at 19 wks scan, and I'm indifferent, but would probably ask if it was my choice alone. So def not asking then, but I have a scan scheduled 2 weeks later with my consultant to check cervix and thought well maybe I could ask then (will be on my own). That's terrible isn't it , but i'd keep the secret to myself so he'd never know, and it would really help with purchases etc... But it's wrong isn't it??
Be honest, what do you think???

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 12/01/2009 16:07

lol Diege- like the plan, Would you be able to keep your mouth shut if it was a boy! might you refer to it as he by accident?

nothing wrong if you can keep it secret I say!

re bugaboo I'd say its more sandy browny kharki than grey. Possibly a bit sagey coloured. Try and see a shop- as they have swatches so you can see colours. Definately the nicest colour for unisex IMHO, though I did toy with the red!

kayzr · 12/01/2009 16:23

Diege, He might notice you buying a lot of blue clothes if it is a boy. But yes I would do it as I would have to find out. Are you enjoying being back at work?

I am so jealous of all of you. I really wanted a Bugaboo Bee but I wanted the yellow one. But DS1 isn't old enough to walk everywhere yet so I had to get the P&Ts but I do love it.

Diege · 12/01/2009 16:26

GYO,if it was a boy (which it has a 12% chance of being apparently ) I think dh would be secretly pleased even knowing early, so might let it slip that I saw boy bits and consultant couldn't deny it...I think the only reason dh doesn;t want to find out early is so that he can have a grain of hope he won't be living in a 5 woman household Am thinking def, khaki one now - could jazz it up with pink/orange blankets etc if girl, and I had a red pram before and bvlack seems a little dull, so yes khaki it is I think!

Diege · 12/01/2009 16:28

Kayz, dh wouldn't notice if I bought the entire boys collection out of Next, so no danger there...Also liked the yellow bee (my first choice initally) but then thought I might feel a bit 'showy' with my yellow pram in a sea of black at the school gates. Does look good in promo video though.

Diege · 12/01/2009 16:29

Oh and yes work is good, though tiring I'll admit. Leaving in 5 so speak later!

kayzr · 12/01/2009 16:30

I like the pink one too. I am not bothered about being different(Lime green P&T might give that away) I am holding on to the hope that DC3 will be a girl. But apparently the percentage goes down after you have had 2 or more of the same sex.

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 12/01/2009 16:35

I read somewhere that yellow ones attract the insects in the summer- but its very nice too. Loved the pink too Kay but felt it a bit risky since I dont know the sex!

we all have varying pram envy- I love the P&Ts but couldnt have it as it wouldnt fit in my car- pointless to have one that didnt fit....

Hurray for kharki Diege. Mine is due in late Feb (hope baby isnt early!) cant wait to have it!

Interesting about % rates of having babies of different genders... its funny how something that should be random changes as you've had more kids...
