The one thing that has been really irritating we with my MIL is that she keeps on referring to "children" and "kids" when she knows perfectly well I'm not having twins . I had to say something in the end, not sure whether I'm being too sensitive but I haven't noticed this with anyone else! I don't know if I want more than one to be honest so don't really want her getting excited over the next five years every time I decline a glass of wine with Sunday lunch.

In terms of work it is all quite confusing I think. I wonder sometimes why I am so adamant I am going back to work - I'm not sure whether it's because I really love work or that I will always want to spend more than my OH earns . Plus, I'm used to earning an ok (though by no means enormous - I wish) salary and being financially independent (and as a result being able to spend what I want to on what I want to). In the long term I would quite like to go freelance, but to do so I need to develop my cv further. I was offered a new job just after I found out I was pg which would have been very helpful but turned it down (3 months notice, so wouldn't have been able to start till the start of December).

I knoe exactly what you mean by the know it all smirk in fact I can feel my blood pressure rising just thinking about it

Hello folks. SPD back, but I am not so miserable as before because at least I had a 48 hour holiday from it.

With regard to pushchairs and small car boots, can I just say as someone who has owned a grand total of five different prams/pushchairs over 20 years that the Quinny Zapp is the one which folds down the smallest, and its manoeuvrability is vastly superior to anything else I have road tested. However it is less good for putting shopping on.

Ha ha! I have had to get Dh to tell his parents that there will not be another baby anytime soon - while I want a big family, this LO came a bit earlier than expected for us so I want to enjoy him or her and then think about extending the family later on (I am not talking 7 or 8 years but I also want to stress there will be a good couple of years in between!)

To me work is mainly about the independence thing - but also, I genuinely like going out to work, I enjoy challenging myself and the independence and satisfaction I get from it. (Although I don't always say that!) Have always been fairly career minded in that I knew I wanted to do well in my career and for my age am pretty happy with were I am and just can't imagine not working - I MIGHT change my mind but people telling me that I will and patronising me when I talk about it just irritates me - It would be a massive personality change for me to completely give up that drive / focus in my life. I am also quite stubborn so the more people tell me I will give it up, the more I stamp my feet. The cow at work I told you about ages ago keeps making references like 'well when you leave' Ooh I do really want to slap her silly!

Freelance would be great for me in the long run - unfortunately with the economy at the moment, it's just not stable enough in the industry and lots of freelancers are looking for long-term positions so need to wait for that to settle a little.

I wish I was a bit braver and could challenge them on the smirking! So irritating!

Ok I know the answer already but would it be a bad idea to rip out the bathroom and install a new one at 6 months pregnant - I should just wait shouldn't I? ....

You are intending to install a bathroom yourself?

I'm not really that career minded - the only reason I have ever gone for promotions is boredom (and not wanting to work under idiots). It's all by accident really, there has never been any great plan.

We are just about to go to Tesco to do a big shop, as DH is here to help me mobility wise, and I am so bored of food at the moment. What exciting things should we buy to cheer ourselves up (NB I have about 55 packets of frozen chicken pieces in the freezer and a mad amount of prawns and seafood mix).

BoffinMum · 03/01/2009 13:41

Where have you lot gone? I will find myself buying even more sodding chicken unless I get some ideas.

Why not make a nice curry with the chicken? Or make Fajitas or cajun chicken is always good. A personal favourite of mine is smoked salmon with tagliettelle (bad spelling) I can rattle off recipes if you want.

BoffinMum · 03/01/2009 13:51

Ooh, a casserole, that sounds good. And DH loves a bit of steak as he is a big hairy Real Man.

I am secretly tempted to actually chuck the chicken as I think we're all fed up of eating it three times a week.

I have defrosted a nice packet of mince from the Farmer's Market that would make a great Shepherd's Pie. I had forgotten about that.

I have about a pint of whipped cream left from the party, I could make a trifle I suppose. They love trifle.

BoffinMum · 03/01/2009 13:56

They love crumble too. I think I have some apple puree in the freezer from the autumn before I got decrepit.

I'm ok now thanks. Had my scan eventually and we know we're having a boy. Can't agree on a name though.
