Sorry, original title.

Anyway, hello everyone, I'm due 6th July (although no scan yet, so date will probably move). Excited but knackered and queasy so far, although having read (some!) of the last thread I've got off pretty easily so far.

Oh all this talk of holidays has got me thinking, I really wanna go away but not sure if we'll be able to afford to.

We've had friends living in Spain so we did think we might manage a short break to see them at some point but they've just moved back home. I'm please that they're back cos we do miss them but it's a shame we don't have a cheap holiday option now

Gonna get trawling the internet tonight me thinks

Patchybob · 10/02/2009 18:18

Hello all, just back from my scan and it went well. The heart looks 'beautiful' in the words of the consultant!! All pumping like it should at this stage. They want me to go back at 23 weeks just to rule out a VSD which is what DD has. That said, if there is one, it is not life threatening and DD didn't even have to have an op, so hopefully I can chill out a bit more now.

Feel much better today, think the chest infection is on the way out, really want to start blooming!!??

Plot2 I hope you got good news today at your scan? Let me know xx

Having fish and chips tonight with lots of salt and vinegar as a treat!

Phoenix · 10/02/2009 18:32

Great news Patchybob

Mij · 10/02/2009 19:49

We've booked a ForestHolidays cabin in Cornwall at Easter cos a) I'm an old hippy anyway, and b) it was the only week we could go before due date. And I'm feeling the need for us to have some family time. DP and I do so much tag-team childcare that we're lucky if we get half a day with all 3 of us together each week. And DD makes it very clear that's when she's happiest. We've never had a holiday, in the whole 11 years we've been together, that hasn't in some way been connected with work or family visiting. So I was bloody determined to do it before the baby arrives and it starts all over again! Cornwall in April may not be hot or glamorous but the cabin has a hot tub on the veranda (used with caution of course ) and DD will find lots of excitement just clambering over logs. Simple pleasures...

Glad to see good news about scans coming in. Think I felt something more definitely like movement yesterday, but just more windy feelings today. Heartburn a right bugger.

Wiltedrose · 10/02/2009 19:52

patchybob great news on your scan! plot2 hope everything went OK with yours.

Sorry have been absent for a few days - I've been at centerparcs at Sherwood with hubby and dd, had a totally fabulous time in the snow! Can highly recommend it to the July girls thinking of planning a holiday and who don't fancy the plane idea. We have been numerous times - we love it because there is lots to do, but when you're back in the villa you feel very private. Have come back really relaxed - we all slept well with all the fresh air exercise and food

Have had to book sodding private 20 week scan as despite 2 phone calls my local scan department won't return my calls re scan date and I still haven't had a letter despite being 19+1 Still, less than a week now until we find out if it's a blue or pink bump!!

Lots of movement, esp in the evening - all yesterday evening felt gentle tap tap tap on what felt like my cervix so am guessing little one is upside down and kicking those legs Otherwise feels like a sort of squirm from side to side with a bit of gentle banging en route. Was just drifting off last night when woken up by it!

JLo2 thanks for advice on cholestasis, haven't had any phone calls about blood tests taken last Wed so hoping that no news is good news. I have, of course, been imagining pins and needles and itchiness everywhere!!!

Hope

PrincessButtercup · 10/02/2009 21:14

I looked at Mark Warner Egypt too Christiana but then saw that on tripadviser.com about 1 in 3 reviewers suffered from tummy bugs when there. Not ideal when pg, I guess.

Great news patchybob! What a relief and so glad you're feeling better.

Very jealous of all this movement you're all feeling. I'm really not feeling much at all despite looking about 6 months' gone!

QueenFee · 10/02/2009 21:50

patchybob thats great news
christiana when I went to center parcs I went as a 'nanny' for my friend. Basically I came along free with some time off if I agreed to help with the kids. We had a great laugh!
Now your all making me want to go away. We were not intending going away at all this year as baby is due at beginning of summer hols. (? the sanity of 6 weeks with newborn and NO CHILDCARE for DD and DS!!!)
I think were going to have a holiday from home in April may time. Where DH takes a week off work and we have a few day trips and overnighters. I find its easier as the kids stay in routine that way and you can spend more money on 'holiday' as you have saved on accomodation. (lots of takeaways so less housework and less housework to come back to as you can keep on top of the washing )

EvieBear · 11/02/2009 00:12

Well done patchybob on your scan, must be such a relief!! I hope i can say the same about my scan in a couple of weeks...
As for movement, my bub has totally calmed down and I haven't felt any movement yesterday or today am sure it's fine but I was starting to get used to the regular movement last week...

Re hols, it's our first baby so thought I'd get one in before life changes!

Omg look at the time- good night!!

Hello all

Patchybob that is great news about your scan, fingers crossed for the next one x

I can also report a normal looking and working heart however there is a but. The ductus venosus is definitely absent and rather than the umbilical vein connecting to a main vessel via a DV in the liver it just dissipates into capillaries. It's not affecting the baby at the moment but the consultant had never seen this variation before so nobody can tell me if things will work out ok. Have another scan in 2 weeks then 4 weeks.

I am one of those anti scan people, when I had dd I had 12 and 20 wks and then only consented to a 3rd at 41wks otherwise I would have been induced, this pregnancy I think I'm going to break all scan records!

On a completely different subject, how's everyone pelvic floors? I thought I'd been good and did all my exercises after dd was born however this week I've had a cold with a nasty cough and have to shift uncomfortably in my chair at work and look at the floor to make sure there's no puddle !!

Bonzo no impressive pics of the veg plot as yet to have a growing season, just a load of mud with plastic on it. Have booked some days off in March to start the planting I'm very excited about it! Where are you going on hol, we are looking for places in late April/early May.

Thank you all for your support and kind wishes it really helps x

Plot2 It sounds like they are taking good care of you and keeping an eye on the baby. I just keep thinking that we are all nearly 1/2 way there and that is a good thing.

ActivityApple I hope you are feeling better. I am slowly on the mend but have had another day on the sofa as still coughing and spluttering like mad. Woke up feeling ok today and soon afterwards realised that in fact I felt pretty rubbish!!

All this coughing is doing nothing for my pelvic floor! Its not as good as I thought it was!!! !

Phoenix · 11/02/2009 15:50

Not read all thread yet but have just found this travel cot and i think someone (sorry can't remember who) was looking for a light weight travel cot. I may have imagined it though

lucasnorth · 11/02/2009 16:05

Hello everyone.

plot2 - good luck for the next scan. Thinking of you.
patchybob - great news

I've got lots of news for once - saw my consultant today about having a c.s and she was really lovely. It was such a relief I can't stop all the time. I have to go back at 34 weeks to talk again but if I still want a c/s then then she's fine with it. She also did a quick scan (haven't had one since before Xmas) and it was great to see baby bouncing around. I think it may be a girl as I didn't see any boy bits, but will have to wait for the full scan in a couple of weeks for an official verdict.

Talking about holidays - we're going to Ischia (island off Naples) in May - the weather should be nice and warm and they have lots of hot springs, so we'll be able to swim even though the sea is still cold at that time of year. We looked at Egypt and were put off by the tummy bug / vaccination issues; and almost went for Florida but couldn't find anything cheap (where ARE all these amazing deals they keep advertising on the radio? It was going to be £2.5 - £3k for 10 days which is way more than we could justify spending).

I'm also going for a 2 day break with DH in April, while DD stays with my parents. I'm a bit but I'm really looking forward to it - we've not been away by ourselves since she was born (she's 2 now), and I guess it'll be another couple of years before we manage it again, so it's going to be quite special.

Anyway, have to get DD from nursery. Take care all

Hiya Ladies

I've been away from the thread for a while as I didn't want to be outed as a July faker. At the supposed 12 week scan we found out, due to the jellybean's youthful good looks that jnr was only 10 weeks! Quite a shock but with my long cycle I can explain it I suppose. We're now due on August 16.... but please can I still gatecrash here every now and then to catch up with the expectant Edinburgh crowd?
And has anyone had any strong responses from the sonographer regarding the sex of their little one. On jnr's proper 12 week scan - they asked us to come back as not all the bowel had left the cord the first time - after a few spectacular scissor kicks the sonographer asked us 'do you want to know the sex?' and told us she's pretty sure it's a boy... then showed us the crown jewels. But she also said that you can't be sure til 20 weeks. But I've felt like I'm carrying a boy. Wondered how many peeps with previous pregnancies had been told one sex, then got a shock at 20 weeks, or in the delivery room itself?!
And one last question - when did you guys start to 'pop' I'm very slim normally and now have a definite pot belly. Is this the start of something? Eeeek how long can I hide it from the boss...
Enough wittering. Hope all's well with you all.

xxhunnyxx · 11/02/2009 22:03

Poppet this is my first so no experience but I know of a couple of ppl who've been told the the wrong sex at scans. However, the stories which I've heard are all of ppl bein told they're havin a girl but it then turned out to be a boy, think if they've seen the 'crown jewels' then its like to be a boy.

I'm really confused about finding out the sex, we've spent most of the pregnancy thinkin that we're gonna find out at the next scan but then my bf said the other day ''i really couldnt care less whether it's a boy or a girl'' so i said ''well why r we finding out then?''.
Now that I've made it half way thru and the end is more insight I think it would be nice to find out at the birth. Also, earlier in the pregnancy I thought it would help bf to bond with baby more if he knew the sex but now he's so in love with it anyway so I don't think he needs to. Oh I'm so confused. Any advise?

rubyriley · 11/02/2009 23:15

ActivityApple your foot in ribs made me chuckle and your advice to Eviebear was spot on re movement. I'm EXACTLY the same, had a period of lots of movement, then it slowed, couple of days where I wondered whether all was ok, then more movement. When it does move it puts your mind and rest though doesn't it. And my theory is that when it's quiet it's concentrating on growing; there's a lot going on in there

Also just discovered that if you leave this page half way through a post, you lose it, grrrrgh.....

Plot1 very best of luck with your scans. I'm sure that our babies make the most of what they can get from us and probably survive against all the odds. Glad to see that your variation of the norm isn't affecting your baby at the moment and long may that last.

It can be such a worrying time being stuck in the middle of this baby making process but I do believe that there's no point worrying about something that hasn't happened yet, and probably may not. I'm an old matriarch and my risk of stillbirth is higher than most, but I'm absolutely not going to spend my whole pregnancy worrying about it. Who knows, that could make it happen!

Re the scan issue, although my earlier thread asked the question, are they safe, I was really referring to my own idea of having an additional private one for posterity but have decided not to, purely for entertainment. I wholeheartedly would have 1 a day, if it was felt medically necessary!

rubyriley · 11/02/2009 23:25

xxhunnyxx I think do what's right for you. My other 2 DS's I did not want to know the sex, but this time I asked to know via my CVS and was delighted to be having another boy. I've enjoyed all my pregnancies even though had high BP towards the end of both and had to rest (quite enjoyed that!) Not knowing the sex does mean that you get a surprise at the end, but I felt that the baby's sex was largely irrelevant after the birth, the main thrill was this perfect little baby that we had produced. Feel this time that I'm enjoying knowing the sex, each time it moves I marvel at my little boy! Probably when he's born I'll just think, thank goodness my baby's ok!! (irrespective of sex)

BonzoDoodah · 12/02/2009 00:13

christiana and EvieBear - we?re off to Tenerife - and yes to the grotty Las Americas bit (not been before). We found an apartment in a quiet (according to reviews) resort with a pool but right next to the beach (a short waddle) and the weather should be warm but not scorching. I can cope with the "yobby" aspect as it'll be warm and off season so should be quiet - and the pool is nice so we don't have to even leave the complex. (flight + self catering apartment is about £350 each). We have an apartment with a bedroom so can put DD in the bedroom in the evening and then we don't have to creep around all night.

Only thing I?m dreading is the 4 hour flight with a 20 month old who has a strong will. Eek! Does Piriton act as a tranquiliser??

plot2 ah good and difficult news with the scan. Maybe it will use the veins it has in a more efficient way and it will turn out ok - the human body is an amazing thing. Fingers crossed for you.

My heartburn has been crazy but went to A/N appointment yesterday and now have a divine 500ml bottle of Gaviscon to sup whenever I need. BLISS! Plus - heard the Dumpling's heartbeat for the first time. Nearly cried - happiness and relief.

ActivityApple I hope you are feeling better, having a fever is horrible isn't it. I found that paracetamol only worked for a little bit aswell...useless! I am much better now apart from a awful cough that has started to hurt, so I hope the chest infection isn't coming back. Being very indulgent and often doze off on the sofa!!

christiana lucky you still having snow!
