lucasnorth · 12/12/2008 17:05

Sorry, original title.

Anyway, hello everyone, I'm due 6th July (although no scan yet, so date will probably move). Excited but knackered and queasy so far, although having read (some!) of the last thread I've got off pretty easily so far.

Phoenix · 16/12/2008 10:00

No family history of nut allergy Misspaella. I'm gonna go get another flapjack tonight now thanks

lizzie9442 · 16/12/2008 10:05

Yeah I might go to a and e. When I went to the doctors yesterday he rang the early pregnancy unit and they are so busy that the earliest they could see me was tomorrow. I hate this its horrible

Baffy · 16/12/2008 12:28

Lizzie I hope you?re ok?

FWIW I had a similar bleed about 2 weeks ago, and I went to A&E. Thing was though, they asked me all the questions, checked urine and blood etc, but the scan still had to be when the EPU could fit me in. They couldn?t get it any quicker for me.
Fingers crossed for you.

My scan went well thanks christmasiana. They just confirmed the dates and said lo was ok and then did my booking appointment.
Still on pins until I reach 12 weeks though. In fact wondering how on earth I?ll cope waiting another 9 weeks for my next scan!!

I agree with you christiana on the peanut thing. I heard they were to be avoided if there?s a history of allergies, but otherwise include them as part of a blanced diet.

Phoenix ? midwife said yesterday that I am (we are?!) to avoid shellfish, but cooked prawns are ok. Tbh I love prawn cocktail and I think I will most definitely be having one on Christmas day!

I?ve asked this before but can?t seem to get an answer. I know we?re not supposed to have soft cheese, but can we have goats cheese if it?s cooked and hot??? Please?!

Belgrano · 16/12/2008 14:55

Hi all

Found you all.

I've got flu and have been in bed for 4 days. Dont think I've ever been in bed for so long and so ill so long after the first symptoms - still got fever, aches, cough, mad snot, raging sore throat and the cough stops me sleeping, which is the only thing that I know would help me. I can't sleep sitting up.

Bless DH got up at 2.30 am this morning to cook me pasta cos I was so exhausted and hungry after all the coughing. In laws are staying now (from 3 hrs away) to look after DD who also has it cos I am too weak.

I think its cos of all that MS meaning I hadnt eaten properly for 4 weeks before i got it, and had lost loads of weight. I'm the lightest I have ever been, which isn't a good thing cos I wasn't big to start with and need reserves to cook this baby!

Terrified i will lose this bean after coming so far and being so sick sick sick for weeks. It would seem too unfair. I don't want my body to give up on the bean but it feels like there is just no spare energy and that's why I'm not getting better. Also worried about having been on max doses of paracetamol for 4 days now - 8 every 24 hrs. I know its MEANT to be safe but that's a lot when the baby is only 8/9 weeks cooked and is trying to form arms and legs and things.
HELP!

Sorry to rant

Panicking and miserable and weepy Belgrano.

JLo2 · 16/12/2008 16:12

Hi Belgrano
Your bean will be fine - it will take whatever it needs from you, leaving you feeling dire! (much like children do after they are born!) I'm sure it will take you longer to get better because of the pregnancy, you will have to be patient You are allowed to be miserable and weepy (blame the hormones) but there really is no need to be panicking.

Lizzie - How are you? Thinking of you

JLo2 · 16/12/2008 16:18

Oh yes - Baffy, I asked about goats cheese too, although didn't get a particularly clear answer. It all depends on whether the milk has been pasteurised before it was made into the cheese. If it has it is okay (and should say so on the packet). Unfortunately most goats cheese used over here in restaurants is 'chevre' with a white rind and is NOT safe to eat during pregnancy as it is made with unpasteurised milk. (This is also the case for Parmesan cheese, as it is made from unpasteurised milk - limited my options at the Italian I went to the other night!)

Baffy · 16/12/2008 16:40

Thanks JLo2. I guess I'd better avoid it even if it is cooked then. Best be on the safe side.

And Belgrano, so sorry you're so ill I do totally agree with JLo2's advice though - the baby will be taking everything it needs from you and that's why you're so poorly and will take so much longer to get better. Look after yourself and don't worry too much. Sounds like your dh is being a star

mum2boys2girls · 16/12/2008 17:39

Hi all thinking of you lizzie hope you are ok
Belgrano there is nothing worse being that poorly when you are pregnant wishing you a
speedy recovery xxx

Still suffering with MS its totally pants feeling sick all the time not knowing what to eat just gone through a large pack of smoked salmon and philly cheese feeling better for it !!! I am 12 weeks on sat really looking forward to my scan on Monday but i am nervous .

lucasnorth · 16/12/2008 17:54

So sorry lizzie. Let us know how you do.

Well, since you were all so helpful with my peanut question I thought I'd sort out cheese once and for all. According to the Food Standards Agency:

"Avoid cheeses such as Camembert, Brie or chevre (a type of goats' cheese), or others that have a similar rind. You should also avoid soft blue cheeses.

These cheeses are made with mould and they can contain listeria, a type of bacteria that could harm your unborn baby."

But you can eat: "Many types of cheese including:
Hard cheese, such as Cheddar and Parmesan
Feta
Ricotta
Mascarpone
Cream cheese
Mozzarella
Cottage cheese
Processed cheese, such as cheese spreads"

"Is it OK to eat goats' cheese when I'm pregnant?
There are different types of goats' cheeses available. The type that is probably most common in the UK has a white rind similar to Brie and Camembert. This type of goats' cheese is sometimes called Chevre and is often served in restaurants, for example in a goats' cheese salad. You should avoid this when you are pregnant. However, other types of goats' cheese that don't have this kind of rind should be fine to eat, particularly hard cheeses."

"Can I eat Brie and blue cheese when I'm pregnant if it's cooked?
Pregnant women are advised against eating these types of cheese because of the risk of listeria. However, thorough cooking should kill any listeria, so it should be safe to eat food containing, these and other cheeses such as Camembert or chevre (a type of goats' cheese), that have a similar rind, provided it has been properly cooked and is piping hot all the way through."

On the prawn front they say:
"Avoid raw shellfish when you're pregnant. This is because raw shellfish can sometimes contain harmful bacteria and viruses that could cause food poisoning. And food poisoning can be particularly unpleasant when you're pregnant."
But under things you CAN eat they then say: "Shellfish, including prawns - as long as they are part of a hot meal and have been properly cooked"

So annoyingly cold prawns are not covered by the list of can or can't eat! Sorry.

thinking of you lizzie.

hope you feel better soon belgrano - i'm sure your lo will be ok and will be taking all they need from you.

lizzie9442 · 16/12/2008 19:05

Hi all, I am getting really nervous about what the hospital are going to tell me tomorrow. My scan is at 10.15am. The bleeding has still not stopped so I am expecting them to tell me the worst. 2 mc in a year

NattyTurkeyAndEggnog · 16/12/2008 19:27

aw lizzie i hope everything is ok hun, try not to worry, its easier said i know.
we will be thinking of you, DO let us know whats going on eh? positive thing is that bleeding later on (closer to 12 weeks) has more of a chance of being something minor, than early bleeding, (say 6 weeks) so i have def got my fingers crossed for you!

im starving!
and tired!
pretty much one of those two for the last week, sorry ive not been posting much, getting ready to move on friday.

good to see ppl found the thread

Gillyan · 16/12/2008 19:41

Hi lizzie poor u, can't believe u have to wait so long to have your scan, it's awful for you. Best of luck.

I've not posted for a few days as had the sickness thing thats going round, also had another bleed on sunday that lasted till yesterday, I rang Early Preg Unit yesterday and they fit me in at 8.15 this morning! They are very good and I'm obviously very lucky not like poor lizzie having to wait so long.

Anyway all is well and I'm 10wks 5days. They think it is probably cervical erosion thats being inflammed by PG hormones.

Have to sayme an DP had sex on Sunday and the bleed was immediate. We haven't had sex for weeks as I've felt so poo but I'm starting to feel better now. I'm now more convinced the bleeds are this cervical erosion. The last ones were just random as we've not had sex for about 7 weeks.

MW said today no sex till after 20 week scan!! Poor DP, she said just get him a good Xmas present, which luckily I have!

mickey I may speak too soon but I was totally worn out and now just starting to feel better these last few days, I've cooked and eaten and hoping the sickness is fading, how PG are you?

lucasnorth poo news about prawns, I am so going to miss my prawn cocktail. Although last time I was PG I went out for meals with my friend and had prawn cocktail followed by scampi three times in a row! I'd forgot about the prawn thing!

belgran get well soon, don't worry about baby it will be fine.

phoenix hiya, I am eating peanuts and I seriuosly considering a prawn cocktail now.

Gillyan · 16/12/2008 19:46

Welcome saffer

misspaella I am starting to feel better too,. isn't it brilliant! Hope we don't speak to soon tho!

Hello everyone else, thrying to catch up with you all but am running out of time.

Good news on the next lot of twins!

Hope everyone who was having scans are okay and happy.

I have got 3 and half days lleft to work and I do my last one on the 22nd and then have 2 weeks off over Xmas - I'm so excited and can't wait!

christmasiana · 16/12/2008 19:47

poor you lizzie you must be feeling dreadful. i'm sending lots of hugs. will be thinking of you all night and tomorrow.

belgrano the flu sounds awful. hope you are OK and don't worry about it.

am sure raw cooked prawns are fine, as long as they are properly cooked and cooled. when i was pg before my doctor said i could eat anything i liked in moderation! things do vary don't they. i would really be interested to know what other countries said.

if the goats cheese lovers looking for some to eat, i know a lovely soft rindless goats cheese called Chavroux which you can get at supermarkets, it is really yummy and i'm pretty sure it's pasteurised. i have been also been eating feta for my cheese fix. last christmas i bought some AMAZING brie which had a layer of truffles in it - incredibly extravagant but it was Christmas. i could kill for some of that now.

natty you will be nesting somewhere new on Friday before Christmas! how exciting!

lizzie9442 · 16/12/2008 19:49

thankyou for all your kind wishes its really nice to have support and know that other people have been through the same kind of thing. I will let you know how I geton tomorrow

christmasiana · 16/12/2008 19:50

ok take care sweetie, thinking of you

woollyjo · 16/12/2008 20:22

Morrisons do a goats cheese made from pasturised milk

Beccabump · 16/12/2008 21:28

I just ate a saucepan full of cold pasta, sweetcorn, peppers and tuna mayo. Seriously there was enough there for 3 people.

Have heartburn and feel sick now - but it felt soooo good at the time!!!!! Glad I bought some Gaviscon today...

I think the hunger thing may have kicked in with me....?

lizzie hope all goes well tomorrow, will be thinking of you xxx

Beccabump · 16/12/2008 21:44

lastbox where are you? how did your scan go today??

QueenFeeUntoUsAChildIsBorn · 16/12/2008 21:46

lgor thanks I am feeling much better. I am hoping this is cause I am now 11 weeks and not because its bad news.

I can't wait till my scan next week. I still don't really believe I am pregnant until I see it for real. Have told DD now and announced it to everyone else. (was looking a bit lardy so had no choice in the end!)
DD seems quite pleased and is asking lots of questions.
Still feeling a bit apprehensive about this pregnancy. We were talking about having another but it all happened so quickly without us really trying I am still struggling to get my head around having 3. Having told people now I am getting a lot of "you will have your hands full" comments which isn't really helping.
Nor is it helped by the fact DS has decided to turn into a stroppy tantruming toddler overnight.

hobnob57 · 16/12/2008 22:16

at Queenfee's stroppy toddler - my DD found the terrible twos the day after her 2nd birthday last week!

Lizzie I so hope that everything is ok for you tomorrow. The shock of having to make decisions so quickly after finding out that all wasn't well with my pg still haunts me at the moment. If you've had a mc before then I suppose you're a bit more prepared. I'll be thinking of you at 1015, and I really hope it's tears of joy we hear about.

So glad to hear that the M/s is finally waning for some. Now it's fun time!

I'm off to my mums for a bit from Thurs as her health isn't great and it's her birthday at the weekend. Will have a 2.5 hours train ride to Edinburgh with DD (the new tantrum queen) to catch a flight since the local ones are so expensive - wish me luck! Any toddler travelling tips?

christmasiana · 16/12/2008 22:23

hobnob sounds like you are doing really well.

where are you going to fly to?

i think Cbeebies magazine quite good at keeping toddler occupied. Stickers and stuff they can play with and not the end of the world if you lose it

am flying on sunday (from edinburgh too oddly enough, i live here) to germany and we are gving DD a little bag i got from accessorize with pens and crayons) to keep her occupied.

i am tempted to get her a bag of chocolates in wrappers that will take her ages to undo. not very healthy though.

also playdough - endless possibilities...

i ahve to say our mini DVD player was one of best every purchases for travelling. endlessly useful on the journey and at the destination!

QueenFeeUntoUsAChildIsBorn · 16/12/2008 22:25

A bag of little things to play with
In my travel bag I have
Crayons and paper
little car
small puppet
slinkly
silly putty (better than playdough for journeys dosnt stick to everything)
books
wind up mini thomas
small doll (2 inchs) with bottle
etc!
oh and video some clips of her favorite tv program on your mobile if you can they are happy to watch the same 10 mins over and over!

my DS is 2,4 now and has always been easy going so its a bit of a shock although is tantrums are laughable as DD was a tantrum queen for 2 years!
Hope your trip goes ok
lizzie will think of you tomorrow
