Sorry, original title.

Anyway, hello everyone, I'm due 6th July (although no scan yet, so date will probably move). Excited but knackered and queasy so far, although having read (some!) of the last thread I've got off pretty easily so far.

Happy new year everyone.

I'm booked in for a home birth cos DD was so completely straight forward (and almost arrived at home anyway) but as with everything around kids I'll keep my options open, just in case. DD scared me by presenting breech until the last minute, but then all was well.

Despite approaching the grand old age of 38 this month, we're not having any tests. Will wait for further info at the 20wk scan.

Am VERY tetchy with DD and feeling guilty. Am not a fun mum at the moment, poor child. And I know how our moods feed off each other so she's understandably grumpy too. Really hope my disposition improves soon!

Hello ladies

I am finally back at home after all our Xmas travelling and loving having my PC back!!

We had an ok Xmas, little one loved it but I ended up with sinusitis all over the holidays and I still feel rough now! Didn't even contemplate the antibiotics though as they always make me throw up and I have been doing enough of that anyway! Got a little bit of rest but I am being very strict with myself at the moment and having lots of lovely early nights as I have hit the absolutely shattered can't stay awake even if I try stage Am now 12+4 by LMP but have my scan on Weds so will be able to say for definite (haha!) then! Hubby can't make the scan this time so my friend is coming with me to get broody and look after DD! Luckily she knows the hospital well and has told me we do get 12 week photos if we ask so I can bring one home and then post it on here yay!

Had to take DD to the docs today as she still has the cough she picked up from before Xmas and it turns out she has had a double ear infection without showing any signs of it! Doc has put her on amoxicillin to cover any left over infection but I feel awful that I didn't take her sooner or know that something was wrong Also ended up with some cream for dry skin and shampoo for her cradle-cap (yes at 2 she still has it!!) so we ended up walking out with a whole pharmacy in our bag

Sorry about the essay, trying to jot it all down while she eats her dinner!

Love to all and welcome to our new ladies!

xxx

lydiathetattooedlady · 05/01/2009 18:10

hey ladies, not managed to get on in ages have had absolutely rubbish weekend. was told today after a lot of discomfort down below that im having a cervical prolapse. trouble is the doctor says he cant offer me any advice as he's never really heard of them during pregnancy only after! have been told tho it will get worse as pregnancy progresses, but also reassurred me my insides wont spontaneously fall out on the floor!
am being referred to an obstetrician but dont known what to do with myself now during the wait! has anyone else heard of this??
hope you're all keeping well x

lucasnorth · 05/01/2009 18:29

Thanks missp and christmasiana. I'm trying not to worry but this seems to be what my mind's going to fixate on this time round. Fingers crossed the consultant will let me go for the c-section and I can fixate on something else instead...

Mij - it's exactly the same with DD and me at the moment. I'm short-tempered-shouty-Mum and she's playing up more than usual as a result. I'm just hoping that as we settle into the 2nd trimester it'll all magically get better

Congratulations phoenix It's such a relief to see the scan, isn't it.

beccabump - don't beat yourself up too much about your DD. Mine too had an ear infection I didn't pick up on - until her eardrum burst . But GP said that it happens quite frequently when they're young (mine also almost-two yo).

Sorry to hear your news lydia. Hope someone's along soon who can help; have you tried posting separately in Health?

Off to do supper now - hello to the evening crowd when you get here

OP posts:
ephrinedaily · 05/01/2009 18:59

BEcca, my DS had an ear infection and I didn't notice until I took him to the GP for something else, it's hard to tell when they're little isn't it.

Lydia, poor you, that sounds terrible I hope you're not in any pain. How long do you have to wait to see obstetrician?

Congratulations on the scan Phoenix!

Oops it's DS' bed time - have to get off the computer!

MoominMoma · 05/01/2009 19:14

Congratulations Phoenix.
Lydia that sounds terrible and I cannot believe your Dr was that unhelpful.

Beccabump · 05/01/2009 19:30

Hi Lydia,

I have done a quick bit of reading and I am not really surprised you doc was a bit clueless - you are a very rare lady apparently!!!

There are lots of scary stories out there about cervical prolapse in pregnancy so try not to read too much or you will be a nervous wreck!!! Most of the studies seem to have been done quite a while ago and as the incidences of the condition are so rare they are kind of half-guessing anyway!!

It seems the most common treatment is to use a vaginal pessary ring (used with old ladies too!!) to help hold the womb up in place but I guess your doc should really be referring you to a specialist asap to ease your mind.

Hope you get good news soon, xxx

dinkyboysmum · 05/01/2009 19:57

anyone got any experience with maternity jeans...am only 12wks, but its number 2 and defo have a bump now. would love a pair that stay up iykwim as i never found a 'good' pair with ds1....any tips?

Gillyan · 05/01/2009 19:57

Hi everyone

lydia hope your okay, have you got long to wait till you see an Ob? Poor you, I've never heard of it wither, sounds a bit scary though.

I keep swinging between home birth and elect section, I bought the Birthing from within book and I totally believe that I could handle the labour better than that the first time but I just don't want to go through it all again if I'm going to tear so badly.

The midwife went through my notes from last time and I had a massive bleed before DD even came out, so I was already tearing and then went on to have the 3rd Degree tear.

My thinking is that scar tissue doesn't have the same kind of elasticity as normal skin and DD was only 7.5lbs and didn't come at a funny angle or anything and I had controlled pusihing etc - so I'm thinking a homebirth would be lovely as I hated the hospital but don't want to attempt it if I'm just going to tear apart again.

Was told at post natal check after DD i could have an elec sect this time JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT to do - I need to speak to the Doc after my 20 week scan I think but I think I'm leaning towards a section.

I'm nearly 14weeks now and starting to feel really pregnant now

I am alomost 100% sure I have felt little flutterings in my tim, it just took me back to the first times I felt DD move - it says in all the books that second time round you can feel them as early as 16 weeks but not 13 and half, anyone else felt anything yet??

lydiathetattooedlady · 05/01/2009 20:27

ive been scaring myslef silly on those stories on the net! no idead how long it will tkae to get appointmnet. doctor tried to push it back in but its not worked, i just dont know what to do now if it gets worse whilst waiting for appoinment. its so embarrassing i thought it only happened to old ladies!
beccabump the pessary ring is what he said is all he could think of but he isnt sure what will happen when i go in to labour!

LargeGlassofRed · 05/01/2009 20:33

Christmasiana - just to say I had the same sort of scores as you for nucal fold and was overjoyed really very low risk
Had 1:100 for dd1.

Homebirth - had my last 2 at home with dd2 in a pool. Can highly recommend.
To have the undivided attention of 2 midwifes while in labour is better than you would get in a private hospital, really was so much more relaxed.

Really sad I won't be able to have one this time hate the thought of being in hospital doing battle. Hopefully though going to the hospital twin session and will get to meet the twin midwife who may be more reassuring.

Gilliyn being feeling flutters from 11 weeks and now feel hard lumps sticking out forgot how stranage it feels.

Am too very short tempered and low at the moment but think the sickness is wearing me down and praying it will end soon.
Dc's went back to school today so had a lovely afternoon snooze.

Hope everyone else is well. Lovely seeing all the scan pictures.

Phoenix · 05/01/2009 20:43

Forgot to say, group B strep wasn't even mentioned at the hospital today. I asked them if it would be an issue in this pg and they said no, they don't screen for it and you won't need ab's when you're in labour .

mickeymistletoe · 05/01/2009 21:54

Hi everyone, not loving the idea of a home birth. we have very thin walls and quite sure i would terrify the kids next door!!

DS was far far too big for me. 11 days overdue and 9lb 5oz. i am only 5'2". i was in labour in the hospital for 10 hours and at home for about a day before that!

i would very much like a c section but thinking i will get told where to go if i ask.

mw did say they would keep closer eye on weight this time and send me for growth scan after 24 weeks if this baby is on the heavy side again.

scully · 05/01/2009 22:22

Can't remember who asked me, but I don't have all my numbers and stats from the scan, didn't want to wait for the copy of the report so just took all my piccies with me yesterday My gp is being emailed a copy of the report so I'll get a copy from her when I'm next there. I was given 1:2000 risk so was thrilled with that, given my age. In Australia, anything above 1:300 is considered high risk, the sonographer told me.
dd1 was a c/s after being breech, dd2 was a vbac, so I'll be trying for the vbac route again, in hospital. dd2 was 8 days late and I had twinges from the Wed and she was finally born on the Sunday night, but established labour only happened Sunday afternoon, after a sweep and a lot of walking around. Managed it with only gas and air so would like to do that again is possible. I had read last time that epidurals can slow down labour, which isn't any good for me having had a c/s, when the length of a labour is monitored more closely then someone who hasn't had a c/s.
I'll have to ask if they screen for strep b here, have my booking in appt Wed next week. Was supposed to be last week but had to postpone it as we were on holiday at the beach
Only 8.20am here and dd's are already arguing and it's supposed to be 31deg today, I've had enough already

nicky6 · 06/01/2009 14:30

hi all cant remember who asked what but here are my views on some of the stuff being chatted about.

by absolute mile best jeans were from blooming marvelous boot cut no panels just adjustable elastic inside they lasted me until i gave birth and i was huge by the end

re nuchal results try not to worry too much they are just probablities and even if the result is 1 in 5000 you could still be the one or in 1 in 300 you could be the 299, if outside the risk rate then try to forget about it otherwise you will drive yourself mad

home births - my friend had one and said it was the most amazing experience, my birth last year was so hideous that i cant imagine having a home birth. waters broke week early, meconium in water induced baby reacted to syntocin heartbeat lost prepped for emergency c section realised baby allergic to drug, doctor tells my dh they would do their best to save both of us (you so dont need to hear that) then stitches , infections blah blah blah blah. so hospital for me just in case all goes pear shaped.

DD back in nursery this week find it hard leaving her but she loves it . She will be 1 later this month cannot beleive how quickly the time has flown.

Back to work proper next week so posting may be a bit sporadic but will be keeping an eye even if no time to write

JLo2 · 06/01/2009 14:42

Hi all
I'm now 15 weeks and have finally given in and started wearing a few maternity/larger sized clothes. Resisted as it is no.4 and I know how long I'm going to be wearing them and how bored I will be of them! Went to H&M today to look for a couple of maternity bits and came back with a fab cardigan that is perfect at the moment, but I will wear forever as it certainly doesn't look 'maternity'. I saw it on display in the shop and asked the shop assistant as I couldn't find it, turns out the display one is the last one and it was in my size and it was half price in the sale. Yipee!

Newb · 06/01/2009 19:13

Ooh i want some maternity clothes, unfortunately at 13+3 I currently just look like I've had a large dinner and several pints (of water these days....) I keep going into shops that do maternity stuff, getting slightly freaked out at the elasticated panels and coming straight out again.......as you can tell this is DC no 1, so I am still mainly in a state of blissful ignorance about many things (except puking...) suspect I will learn a lot over the next weeks

woollyjo · 06/01/2009 19:38

I've been in maternity trousers since before xmas, it was that or a case of wearing my jeans undone the whole time. I work outside so am loving the whole over the bump and half way up my back bit at the moment even if I do have to keep pulling them up!

Beccabump · 06/01/2009 21:12

eeek scan tomorrow - now convinced i am not pregnant just have a huge fibroid or something and will look stupid when they do the scan.....never mind the nausea, expanding stomach and huge bazoombas....why do I feel like this??? xxx

QueenFee · 06/01/2009 21:16

I have had my 20 week scan date through for the 18th feb Its quite scary actually as that doesn't seem that far away!

I also have had my consultant appointment through for thursday at 2:45!!!!! well they have to be awkward. I am under the consultant this time as I have an underactive thyroid and also because I have had 2 3rd degree tears. Has anyone got any suggestions of what I should ask him. Am hoping to avoid a c section as I feel unnecessary so want to know where they are coming from with this.

I am not having a home birth as DH really doesn't want me to. I feel he has good reason as we are half an hour from the hospital should anything go wrong. Also I have very long labours and usually demand pethadine which I dont think you can get at home. I also had to be rushed to theatre with DD to be stiched as I had lost a lot of blood so wouldn't have wanted to delay that. I must admit this time I feel I want to stay at home a bit longer, but as my contractions pretty much start as bad as they end I am desperate for pain relief long before they class me as in labour Actually I find it less painfull once I get to 4cm -i'm very back to front
sorry to go on

Gillyan · 07/01/2009 11:16

I've in maternity stuff for weeks now, I look about 6 months pregnant I swear, never mind

I'm definately feeling the baby moving around - it's such a nice feeling I forgot how great it was.

Off sick AGAIN with a chest infection this time - I swear my boss hates my guts

There was a good artcile about Group B strep in this months Pregnancy and Birth magazine - I meant to get the test done last time but my waters broke at 37 weeks so never did.

Got my DD's 3rd birthday party coming up and I have a stalker who is a Dad of one her friends from nursery.

I rang him weeks ago to discuss his daughters birthday that my DD was going to, since then he kepps texting me and it's really odd, he is either just very friendly in a weirdo sort of way or just a weirdo - I don't like it it creeps me out and he was the first to reply about DD's birthday and I'm terrified of him being there! I bet he stays the 2 hours and doesn't drop his daughter off. Urgh.

Acceber · 07/01/2009 11:50

Hi all

I told work yesterday - that was weird. Feels kind of real even though, apart from getting fat (which could be just Christmas) I have no symptoms. Am 13 weeks today - am wondering when will I get to feel it move to prove it is still there?!

JLo2 · 07/01/2009 13:27

Won't be too long until you feel it moving Acceber, although if it's your first (sorry can't remember!) it may be a while before you recognise it for what it is.

I'm also under the consultant, QueenFee, for a number of reasons including DS1 being an emergency caesarian. Generally I have found that consultants are trying to keep their caesarian numbers down, so will be quite positive about you not wanting one. It is usually a good opportunity to discuss your options and let them know what you want. It probably won't be the last time you see them so don't worry if you think of something afterwards, just make a note of it for next time.

BonzoDoodah · 07/01/2009 13:57

nicky6 - EEK - feel completely sick just reading about your birth story. Poor you and hubby - how traumatic!

I had SIX DAYS of contractions at 42 weeks (yes yes really proper ones) and ended up with a C-section after not dilating at all, in all that time. Sproglet was "brow presenting" (with a fat head) so wasn't coming out. So I'm really hoping for an easier time this time and hopefully a VBAC.

Scan for Tuesday and nuchal fold for next thursday. It's getting closer - can't wait now.

I bought a load of maternity clothes off ebay last time (second hand ones but good quality and cheap) - the Mothercare jeans with elasticated bump covering were SOOOOO comfortable.
