Hello lovely ladies, the new thread is open for business

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dinkystinkyclaus · 23/12/2008 08:54

Morning all. I am feeling very virtuous - I (heavily pregnant lady) gave up my seat on the tube to an old man with walking aids - no one else even offered! And then when they saw that heavily pregnant lady had given up her seat, everyone offered me their seat instead. Feel I have done my good deed for the day and spread the christmas spirit around a bit....

LBB - congrats on the bonkage Glad you had a better day/night yesterday. If you do want to breastfeed, get in touch with local peer supporters before you do have no 2 (I wouldnt have been able to breastfeed DS without the help of mine) as they can spend hours helping you whereas midwives cant and dont - however, if you want to formula feed (and I can understand why you may feel this way), you do it - whatever works for you, your baby and your family.

TBM - sorry your night out didnt work out! Though your new clothes sound nice..

Rosie - poor you with your earache. Hope its just an aftereffect of all the lurgies and will clear up quickly! We're off to my MIL's for xmas - so xmas eve my SIL and BIL are making a trinidadian fish curry (BIL comes from Trinidad) which should be good. Is funny - no one in DH's family (on either side) has ever married someone of another faith/race before (mind you, lots of DH's family have never travelled outside of Brighton) but DH married me (hindu indian) and SIL married BIL (trinidadian but US resident non-practicing muslim) which has made christmas feasts a little less samey.

My sister bought me a highbacked leather bean bag for christmas (from beautifulbeanbags.co.uk - they had them on the hypnobirthing course I went on and I was raving about them to her) and I think I'm in love! It is THE most comfy thing I've ever sat on in my life - definitely recommend it to anyone in the look out for a bean bag. DS is in love with the huge box it came in - as I left he and his nanny were transforming the box into a play house for him, complete with windows, door and drawn on flower boxes....

dinkystinkyclaus · 23/12/2008 08:56

LBB - my friend is an anaesthetist and she's with you on pethidine; she wouldnt take it in labour due to all the reading she's done on the subject. She had an epidural with her first and nothing with her second (wanted an epidural but didnt get to the hospital until she was fully dilated!).

Good on you for asking the unit to check up on the path results and explain why you had to take anti-bs for no reason at all.

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 23/12/2008 09:00

Morning

Rosie, you poor thing....earache is horrible. Hope you get on ok at the doctors. I'm with you on the feeding thing as well. Whilst I understand how important support is for those that need it, my choices should be accepted without question - whether it be feeding, birth "plans", how I bring up my children - whatever. I have to say that DD hasn't seen a HV since her jabs at 16 weeks.

I have a cleaning and sorting out day today as DD has gone to nursery (I have to pay the £40 anyway so she may as well.....saves being stuck in with mummy again!) and DH at work, so I'm all hoovered, upstairs and down and waiting for the Tesco's man to turn up.

We're having curry tonight in an effort to eat something different....stroganoff sounds scrummy.....can you eat that with a dodgy gall bladder?

I spent a fortune on the Next sale last night ....its just as well I don't know what I'm having as the baby stuff was just so sweet...

My last pg was Summer 07 and its much easier being heavily pregnant in the winter I've decided....I can still get all my shoes on and have no puffiness at all....last time I had to buy the ugliest shoes that I wore for the last 12 weeks - and the first 6 weeks after DD was born.

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 23/12/2008 09:03

Oh Dinky, that FISH curry sounds lovely

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 23/12/2008 09:04

Whoops - didn't mean to do the caps - one of my lab tests has an acroynm called FISH and I automatically type it in caps

littleboyblue · 23/12/2008 09:04

Thanx dinky I still don't know why lack of seat offering suprises me. It's shocking isn't it? Good for you thought to give up your seat.
Your xmas eve meal sounds lovely. I want a curry now, haven't had one for ages! Suppose we'll be currying left over meat after xmas day for a while though

littleboyblue · 23/12/2008 09:07

Norty It was nice to get the early stage done in the summer this time wasn't it, but sods law this summer wasn't half as impressive as our late preg one!

dinkystinkyclaus · 23/12/2008 09:21

I had DS in April 2006 - just as the nice weather arrived. Am hoping this baby brings nice weather with him too for this summer! Was v grateful not to be heavily pregnant over the summer as saw all the poor pregnant ladies puffing away... I actually quite like being pregnant over the winter (only way I've been though) as the best thing about summer is picnics with lots of pimms... yum.

rosieposeyxmaspuddingandpie · 23/12/2008 09:27

Hooray! have an appt at 12, will take paraceatamol till then though.

Lol Dinky your Chrismas eve meal sounds ace! Better than beef stroganoff, mind you that was a request put in a few weeks ago by DD3 anyway so i promised. Blimey! thats good going on the tube though ... you started a chain reaction of Chrimble good cheer ... good on you girl Dont bank on it continuing though lol ... you know that Christmas cheer and the tube dont usually go hand in hand

LLB dinky is right and you can track down some support for BFing if you need it. You can successfully BF with a toddler as women do it all of the time but if your previous experience of it wasnt too great then i can understand you wanting to go straight to FF but i reckon everyone feels different with each child and this is a new baby and might take to BFing like a duck to water and you never know, DS might not bat an eyelid Either way, happy mummy = happy bubba! And your right Formula isnt poison mine all did alright on it ( dd3 passed her gcse's and everything! ) I hated the whole militancy that went with being guilted into BFing as i wanted to do it if it worked for me and my lo but between having raging mastitus and lo's in special care it just wasnt important enough to get miserable over.

Has anyone sorted anything out for NYE too? Just asking as i always without fail do something for NYE with DH (last year it was St Ives which was amazing) but this year i really feel like i cannie be arsed, i dunno if i can be bothered to squeeze meself into something spesh to wear and tolerate everyone being totally hammered around me when i just feel fat and boring. I think for the first time ever i will be spending this one at home with the girls and DH ... boring i know but choices are limited in Sunny Swindon and i feel too preggers to go into London or down to Cornwall again. I just dont fancy facing a pub, club or restuarant unless im gettng a bit squiffy too (which obviously i wont) bah humbug

rosieposeyxmaspuddingandpie · 23/12/2008 09:31

I meant DD1 passed her GCSE's and everything ... tis ok i dont have some formula fed induced child genius/progeny on my hands lol

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 23/12/2008 09:34

My sister had pethedine and her LO was VERY woozy and affected. I think they had to give her something to counter the effects.

They don't offer pethedine as an option during labour at Tommy's and haven't for years. I think most 'forward-looking' hospitals don't either.

I have to get my fat arse out to go buy some T-shirts for DSs to paint as Christmas presents for their dad and grandparents .

dinkystinkyclaus · 23/12/2008 09:36

When I was pregnant with DS Rosie we had a quiet NYE (were living in Belsize Park then) - up to pub in Hampstead for dinner then down to Primrose Hill to watch the fire works across London around midnight and then 15 minute amble back home. This year, its going to be a nice bottle of wine (mostly for DH though will have a glass), some yummy food and a good dvd I think. Just think - next year you'll have to have an extra big one to celebrate for 2 NYEs...

I love that they have so many classic black and white films on over xmas - like Bringing up Baby - am going to Skyplus them all to watch while on maternity leave with DS2 and sitting up at all hours of the night...

Hmm, new thread title suggestions anyone? How about

"Fab Feb 2009 - Dear Santa, this christmas I would like you to bring me my feet back (not seen since November)"?

LMN - the only way I can get my shoes on now is by constantly wearing my long length ugg boots - anything that stops at the ankle is not getting on!

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 23/12/2008 09:36

Oh, and had a wonderful day yesterday - met friends in park and went for pub lunch with six littlies [fburp].

dinkystinkyclaus · 23/12/2008 09:37

P.s. all those of you still needing to stock up on alcohol for other halves/friends etc, Threshers/Wine Rack have 40% off vouchers on their website (valid till 31 December).

Every little bit helps.

Swampster - those t-shirts sound brilliant!

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 23/12/2008 09:37

You saw them as recently as November?

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 23/12/2008 09:37

Blimey, I haven't done anything on NYE for years......old fart that I am

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 23/12/2008 09:41

What did you get in the Next sale, Norty? I figured I have all the baby stuff I need so I got myself a couple of pairs boots instead (and a few bits 'n' bobs for the DSs and nieces...)

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 23/12/2008 09:45

Today I am Hormonal.

I may kill someone.

And if I have to pull my trousers up one more fucking time I am going to scream.

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 23/12/2008 09:48

Mainly stuff for DD this time next year...so all size 2-3. Her wardrobe is currently last years Next sale. There were 69 pages of items, but I only got to page 35 and gave up and went and cooked dinner!

You having DS at Tommy's Swampy? I worked there many moons ago.....

I really need to move my fat arse and go and do some housework!

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 23/12/2008 09:49

Not over the bump trousers then MS? I wear over the bump everything (including some very big knickers ....one of the best things about being pg!

rosieposeyxmaspuddingandpie · 23/12/2008 09:52

i love over the bump, if i wear under it falls off my bum

littleboyblue · 23/12/2008 09:53

I wear over the bump too, but they're a bit tight now as am quite big, you could call me Tara-Two-Bellies!

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 23/12/2008 09:56

Under the bump today.

Am trying not to spend all of Christmas doing washing so economising, even though they are covered in mud from the park yesterday.

Anyone else feeling just KNACKERED. Like too knackered for bloody Christmas. It feels like every little thing is a mammoth effort today.

dinkystinkyclaus · 23/12/2008 10:01

Markstretch - braces should keep the under bump trousers in place - or the belt made from tights that someone was touting the other week (who was it that came up with that ingenious invention?). Get some sleep lady or at the very least take it easy today - sounds like you're still exhausted from yesterday.

Swampster - saw my feet briefly in November before they shuffled out of sight. Dread to think what state they will be in when I finally get to see them again...

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 23/12/2008 10:04

Have felt knackered for weeks...some of my over the bump stuff is getting quite tight now.....got a massive pair of trackies on today ....

Why am I still here....I should be dusting....bloody hell, can you tell I'm on mat leave.....no wonder we're getting through our threads so quickly....if you see me on here again this morning, tell me to bugger off
