Hello lovely ladies, the new thread is open for business

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dinkystinkyclaus · 22/12/2008 11:03

LBB - the midwifes on the postnatal ward sound awful! FWIW, I think care can be quite hit and miss on postnatal wards (had some horrid midwives like yours but one wonderful male midwife who made an immense difference) - at least you know not to take any shit from them this time round

Herbgarden - your poor DS. Hope its a 24 hour thing and he gets better really quickly. I think he and your DH better stay in watching prexmas telly (think there are loads of muppets type shows due on the box over the next few days - DS loves the muppets, maybe time to introduce your little one to them too)?

littleboyblue · 22/12/2008 11:04

You go Norty, infact I don't know anyone who had a CS for whatever reason to have a natural the next time.

I HAVE REALLY GOT TO GET TO SHOP. It'll be ds's lunch in half hour, we're still not dressed and I have to get it right or he won't nap and I've got a shed load of ironing to do. For some reasn, I can't drag myself away from cbeebies. Maybe just getting as much of Chris and Pui before they leave

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 22/12/2008 11:08

Are they leaving? I like Chris ...think he's nice

littlesez · 22/12/2008 11:12

Morning ladies,

tbm nooooooooooooo my stomach will magically return to the same state as it was before with no effort whatsoever! (of course dont really believe this but wouldnt it be nice)

KT I teach streetdance and cheerleading. Just hard sometimes as most of the kids are doing advanced stuff that i cant do at the moment (got some fab pics and videos on my facebook if your on im sara ashpital) Cant imagine doing spin! how on earth? I know what you mean about regular execise I get grumpy if i cant!

Feeling really pregnant, at what stage can you call yourself heavily pregnant ladies? I think 32 weeks (only coz thats me now!) Getting out of breath easily and HUGE effort to bend down make a large noise every time!

MrsChristmasY · 22/12/2008 11:37

Morning all - this thread is gonna move quickly now we're on mat leave/Christmas breaks...

MS sorry to hear about neighbours - what are the quotes for soundproofing like?

littlesez I think 3rd trimester = heavily pregnant!

lbb If I were you, I'd seriously consider moving hospitals - I've already said to my mw that if I can't be at home (and we know in advance) I want to go to Pembury (half an hour away), if something happens while I labouring at home, it will have to be Maidstone as we're five minutes away. I can't really see that you'd be messing anyone around, it's not like they're preparing for each pregnant woman specifically...and you have the right to be "treated" at any hospital in the country - if you wanted to give birth in the Outer Hebrides you could...

I'm off to brave the supermarket to get in stuff for our party tomorrow night - just doing a huge cheese board with extras, and I'm already salivating!

Hope you're all having a happy Monday!

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 22/12/2008 11:57

Oh MS, poor you! It?s one thing when your neighbour has a baby and you know they?re teething or something, but a toddler should be under better control!

KT, I?m so jealous of you! I?ve just had to tell Tink she can only go to the toilet if she?ll let Grandad take her as I can?t get up the stairs lol

LBB, sounds like you had a terrible time last time! They did the right thing not giving a bottle to you, but it should have been backed up with Bfing support. Speak to your consultant before you have the baby and tell him/her that you don?t want things to go like they did before. Anything you have written on your notes are considered gospel!

I better go, I?m going to buy new maternity clothes for a night out tonight (don?t tell anyone )

CalicoisCrackers · 22/12/2008 12:08

Haven't had time to catch up on all the thread yet.

Herb - sorry to hear about DS's sicky bug - just what you need this week I'm sure.....

LLB - sorry you hated your hospital, MWs and HVs. It really does make a difference. I had an awful birth experience but wonderful care during and after which makes me feel more confident this time around. I'd happily stay in as long as possible as newborn + toddler is a combination I'd rather not think about at the moment!

DS has his Christmas party this afternoon at nursery and DH is playing Santa so I wonder if he'll recognise him and shout out 'daddy cuddle' in front of all the kids!

Have a great night out TBM!

littleboyblue · 22/12/2008 12:34

Calico That's what I was thinking, get home and there's 2 of them, but there's also dp and anyone else I may want/need 24hrs a day so......
Hope ds's party goes well. A friend of mine had to stand in as Santa at his nephews school the other day and when he collected his dn after the lo said "where'd you get those boots? Did you just see Santa"

TBM Where you off to tonight then? Hope you have a great time.

MrsCY Just got back from supermarket and it wasn't too bad....Good luck
It's not that I feel I'd be messing them around coz I don't really care about them, it just seemed easier for me to stay where I knew no matter how crap they are/were. I just don't/didn't have the energy to battle them all when they said that even if I just pitched up at another hospital I'd be taken to my registered one unless they could see baby's head. At the time, we'd just moved and were living out of boxes, ds had his 1st bday, I had to get rid of dog and it was all a bit much to fight mw.

littleboyblue · 22/12/2008 12:37

Oh, TBM yes they were right not to give a bottle as notes said bf, but we are talking 9 hours after a successfull feed. They took him off me at 6 when they moved me to post-natal and it was just gone 3am when I finally got the bottle (not the help to bf)

laidbackinamangernocribforabed · 22/12/2008 12:39

Just returned from taking DS2 and DS3 to have breakfast with Father Christmas, which was all rather nice. DS1 is out Christmas shopping for us with his own money .

I have a month to go and so really need to start thinking about getting things out and dusting them down/washing etc. The earliest I have ever delivered is a week, so I am hoping I have a bit more time yet.

MS - My best friend has a similar issue with her neighbours baby - they have moved bedrooms as they just can't handle the crying (with no response from parents). Is that possible for you at all ?

TBM - Are you off raving ?

MrsY .yum..cheese...I have an organic cheese selection in the fridge that is meant to be a Christmas gift for FIL...but what he doesn't know about he can't miss, can he ?

Calico - hope your DS has a wonderful party

rosieposeyxmaspuddingandpie · 22/12/2008 12:42

Afternoon all. Feeling much better today although still cant smell anything at all! Herb hope you manage to look after DS without getting it yourself. Just skimmed the last 4/5 pages and glad there are no huge dramas ... every time i log on and i havent been on for a few days i expect someone to have given birth! Excuse the lack of paragraphing but there is something wrong with my laptop and everytime i try and press return it just keeps coming up with a settings menu Anyway alls well here. Sorry to hear that your still affected by your last birth LLB. If you had a hard time they should take this into consideration - they have me as mine was 11 years ago and take it from me without the promise of a CS this time i would have been a nervous wreck and its been a long time! Im not sure how accurate those scans are either but just for the hell of it and seeing your baby again i would have the last one ... its nice to see them waving around at you! I had two last week, one growth scan and one bio physical (where they do dopplers and things) as lo had stopped moving around as much. I just figure that he has less room now as is supposed to be 4 and a half pounds. LLB i dont know where in Surrey you are, i just moved from Guildford and was at Royal Surrey and i can recommend them - i had a miscarriage at 11 weeks last Nov and they took amazing care of me plus i know a couple of people that have delivered there too and they said it was great. Saying that i also know someone that delivered at St Peters a few weeks ago and she had an instumental delivery and couldnt praise them highly enough so i reckon like TBM said just make sure that your wishes are 'all over your notes' because they cant ignore them then. Hope it all goes to plan and you get what you want Norty hope you get something sorted so that you dont have to be worrying either (cant remember if you said you were having a cs or not). Welcome to the newbies too Its always nice to have more babies to look forward to!

littleboyblue · 22/12/2008 12:50

rosie It's St Peters. My last birth was 16 months ago, so was still very fresh when we got pregnant again. Never mind. It'll work out, but now I know what to expect. I'm not attempting to bf this time either so that'll make it a bit easier...

dinkystinkyclaus · 22/12/2008 13:16

How was Twilight Rosie? Hope it didnt wipe you out too much going out on Friday night

MrsChristmasY · 22/12/2008 13:39

I HATE food shopping. It used to be a favourite thing of mine to do, but I lost count of the number of times people stopped in front of me suddenly, so I got the handle of the trolley in my bump - I have a red mark accross my stomach now . Got home and phoned John to tell him I'm never going food shopping alone again when either 31 weeks pregnant, ill or 4 days before Christmas...

Am possibly never even leaving the house alone again...

dinkystinkyclaus · 22/12/2008 14:01

MrsY - it is crazy in the supermarkets at this time of year; wait till the new year and it'll all be back to normal again. Put your feet up now and have a well deserved rest!

TBM - hope you find a nice outfit for tonight and have a great time. You deserve it!

turkeyandherbstuffinggarden · 22/12/2008 14:02

MrsCY....online shopping maybe?? Some irritating old codger shoved his trolley into my bum the other day in Tesco pushing bump against the handle and almost giving ds whiplash (I exaggerate but you know what I mean) whilst I was considering how big to go on the big pants front. He looked a bit aggrieved when I gave him my best dirty look as if I was it was all my fault that I was in his way - and I really don't think he was sorry. There was more than enough room for the two of us if he'd been looking where he was going.

turkeyandherbstuffinggarden · 22/12/2008 14:04

PS DH has just phoned to say that he's "bored" - why do I have kevin the teenager for a husband please???? What on earth does he think I do when I have to look after ds all day? I've told him to plonk ds by the telly and go and do the [long list of] jobs he needs to do. He's only peeved because no doubt he's being subjected to a round of Peppa Pig when he's itching to turn it over to SkySports and doesn't actually want to do any jobs. Hee hee hee is all I can say.

MrsChristmasY · 22/12/2008 14:09

Oh, I tried - all the pre-Christmas deliveries were booked up three weeks ago!

And I was so stressed out that I completely forgot the booze! John is a little miffed...
I also forgot to buy myself something for my lunch, so I am a little miffed...

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 22/12/2008 14:09

Can't believe they refused to give you a bottle - or any bf help.

I'm sure I'll be shot down, but IMO if you ask for a bottle and choose to feed your child that way, then you should be given one....not have someone take the moral highground on you.

Blimey, if they stuck to birth plans all the time, they'd all get sued.

People are allowed to change their minds....

LBB, although its the same hospital, things change very quickly in these places....including staff....so try not to worry and deal with situations as they arise and don't take any crap!

I remember a "nursery nurse" (!!) telling me off for changing DDs bum "on the bed where my feet had been" (I'd had a bloody section and could hardly move) and for using wipes instead of cotton wool and warm water (for all that sticky meconium). Honestly. WTF. I smiled sweetly and took no notice and dealt with my baby how I wanted to.

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 22/12/2008 14:12

Rosie - glad you are feeling a bit better....just in time for Xmas

MrsY....you are brave shopping without DH....mine, luckily is being delivered tomorrow...make DH go out and get the booze tonight.....they're open 24 hours.

Herb - my DH is exactly the same, except Skysports would be on and DD would be whinging and DH would wonder why . DH has only ever had DD for one whole day on her own when she's been ill, and she run him ragged ....so he is now aware that I don't sit on my arse (on MN) all day.

MrsChristmasY · 22/12/2008 14:28

Norty Did she think DD would get foot and mouth on her bum?! I think John was a bit relieved as he can now choose nice wine and stuff - I'd have gone for plonk, as I can't have any! Apparently Lidl have a huge offer on beer, so we may get some on our way back from Bluewater - we need two more dining chairs for our table and in The Pier's closing down a pair are £40 down from £129! So we're off to snag them!

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 22/12/2008 14:34

Blimey, you're even braver going there....

didn't know the pier were closing down though......

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 22/12/2008 14:40

Foot and mouth

I was a bit taken aback....by this 50something nursery nurse....Some people are so up their own arses...she treated people like children themselves....... I remember the lesson she gave me in how to wash DD.....the midwives in my hospital however, were much more laid back, told me to ignore her....and also told me not to go home without getting infacol .

turkeyandherbstuffinggarden · 22/12/2008 14:40

My work colleague just bagged herself a bargain in The Pier in Swindon. Oak table and dining room chairs. Get ye down there if you can face it !!

turkeyandherbstuffinggarden · 22/12/2008 14:42

If anyone tells me what to do this time when I'm in hospital with no 2 after my c-section (other than purely medical things which are out of "mother and baby" remit) - they will definitely get a short sharp shrift !!.....
