am feeling very proud of dp tonight... he had his works do and had said he'd be home by 11ish as our friend is visiting which i found doubtful as even not drinking i know how easy it is to forget the time when you're out with people and having a laugh... but lo and behold he walked in at 11.20!

i had a nice evening chatting to our friend though it's been a year since we've sen him so was good to catch up and watch stupid tv, he and dp are ensconced in the utility room now smoking and blaring music and i'm heading to bed after this cuppa... have a feeling i'll be dealing with kids at some point during the night as ds was coughing and feverish before bed and dd is still coughing a bit and has a sick tummy on top of that.... oh the fun!

have a tonne of shopping to do tomorrow now we've finally been paid and we've got a xmas party on sunday... 4 families with a total of 7 kids under 4... eek! could go either way really but hopefully it'll be fun!

littlesez · 20/12/2008 08:11

Had the longest day ever yesterday!
set off at 8am had different appointments and general organising for party all day all over manchester then got home at 4, got ready, picked up my friend from bus station with half done hair! then onto our end of year party(for 300 people which i organised) getting home at 12 midnight.

Should be sleeping like a log now but hubby got in from work at 6 and can't sleep now! Party was fab but bit stressful. Oh well all over now!!!!!! No more work, yeah!

Managed to squeeze in Midwife app yesterday, guessing weight as 3lbs 8oz, awwww. She is head down and good news midwife thinks she will stay like that. I love her because she tells me how fab my stomach muscles are and that they will prob hold her in place head down! got tp hear her heartbeat again which was nice.

Off out tonight for a meal, will have to wear the same dress as i only have 1! oh well first saturday off all year i think so will be slobbing in my pjs alllllllllll day!

littleboyblue · 20/12/2008 08:26

PP When we first got to hosp, they gave me pethedine which was rubbish, although it did mean I slept for half an hour.
I tried G&A not long after that but felt awful on it, like I was 15 again after a bottle of strongbow
6 hours later, they were still saying no to an epidural but said I could have more pethedine, at this point I didn't really care what they gave me as long as they did something, didn't touch the sides and ended up on G&A for another 3 hours and I was completely off my face
Not sure what we're doing today, dp's still in bed. My Dad's having his pre-xmas drinks tonight, haven't been for a few years what with pg and ds but might get dp to drive over for an hour depending on ds's mood

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 20/12/2008 08:29

Morning all.

I have been blissfully comfortable at night time. Up until last night.

Spent so long lying in one postition my hips felt like they were on fire, then woke up early this morning feeling really sick (cue DH- 'Do you think you might be pregnant?!')

Wasn't able to get back to sleep in any postition so have been up since before 6am at the weekend! A sign of things to come....

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 20/12/2008 08:30

LBB- I had pethidine too- didn't like it at all. Felt completely off my face too but it didn't do anything for the pain.

Just meant between contractions I was a dribbling, gibbering idiot.

littleboyblue · 20/12/2008 08:33

Hahaha. I'm like that anyway!
I'm hating night times now too. Not long though........
This one is laying exactly how ds was so can't even lift my right leg, not even when I sit down. Makes getting dressed tough, have to drag trouser leg up with right foot! Hehehe

Rachrox · 20/12/2008 09:16

Hello ladies,
Haven't been on for a while so have lost gist of thread completely, you all talk lots!
I've had the worst week for a while as some gits decided to break into my house over night on monday, thankfully they only took dh fishing stuff (although he's not happy at all as was his pride and joy). Called the police they were useless, so since then i just don't sleep in case they come back. I think the worrying thing is that i didn't hear them even though i'm up and down all night. There are some vile people around.

MS I've also been suffering with a pain in my hips at night, i turn to get comfy then both sides really hurt, is it spd do you think? I've never had it before but dreading the next 8 weeks like it!

Can anyone else believe it's xmas in 5 days??!! I so need to get organised and presents wrapped.... hmm maybe tomorrow .

I will try to keep up from now on..........

littleboyblue · 20/12/2008 09:20

OMG Rach, you were in ouse at time? How awful. Were your dc's there too? Can't believe it. Are the police not going to do anything? How did they get in? OMG!

Rachrox · 20/12/2008 12:39

Hi Lbb, yeah they came in whilst we were sleeping in bedrooms upstairs but they actually jumped over outbuilding gone past dd's bedroom window and into back garden and through that way breaking lock on door. Luckily we've got double back doors so they didn't actually get into whole house, but still worries me that they went past dd's window unnoticed as it's very easy to pop open pvc windows. So at night atm i'm listening to every noise. Dh gone to get dog today to try and put me at rest! Police didn't even give us an incident number! Also it took over 24 hours for scene of crime to come and take finger prints etc, but found nothing as i thought. Still i suppose it makes everyone aware of what can happen and we'll be making sure it doesn't happen again!

Ok enough of a rant for me.... what's everyone up to this weekend?

littleboyblue · 20/12/2008 16:07

My god, can't believe it!! I used to run pubs so am quite used to having windows smashed and doors kicked in and attempted burglaries, IME even the smallest of dogs are great deterents.
Hope you manage to relax soon, how awful to feel on edge in your own house.
Thank God they didn't get into main part of house though.
What sort of dog are you getting? I love dogs, had to re-house mine recently

littleboyblue · 20/12/2008 16:21

Have decided to go to Dad's for pre-xmas drinks, he says there's not that many this year so should be ok. Although the whole neighbourhood tend to show up after a while and 'drinks' turn into a 4 day party, hope I'm that wild when I'm nearly 50!
Just gonna go for a couple of hours, I had a glass of wine last night and paid severly with heartburn all night so will stick to juice I think.
We get to see pushchair too, very excited. Might put ds in it and have a whizz about.
Hope everyone else has a good evening. catch up tomoz.

Oh, and I used the support belt earlier while doing some cleaning, seemed to help with pain in hips and therefore groin, but made bump ache a bit. Mw told me to put it on really tight so i'M almost holding hips together, but baby's head is down there so feel a bit funny about it. Although for the bump to ache I must be wearimng it wrong. Don't think it's too small as bit that goes over bump slides down a bit........

dinkystinkyclaus · 20/12/2008 18:23

Evening all. Rachrox - lovely to hear from you but so sorry to hear about your break in - Its one of my greatest fears, being broken into while am in the house on my own with DS (as DH can travel with work abit and works quite late nights)- I insisted on getting an alarm fitted within days of moving into our current house as the day we moved in our neighbours told us about a couple of breakins further down the road.... Hope the dog works out for you. Cant believe the police were so useless!

PP - am impressed at your DH. Good luck with the party tomorrow - you are a very brave lady!

Herbgarden - well done on having that party for the little ones.

LBB - have a great time at your dad's. Glad the support belt sort of helped - maybe the bump pain will lessen the more you get used to it (as sounds like its realigning your posture somehow).

Massage and facial were lovely - had appointment at 9am (the place it was at is just off Bond Street) and there was NO ONE about - came out at 11.30 and the streets were rammed! Fortunately managed to keep blissed out feeling despite the crowds. DH and DS (and SIL, BIL and MIL) all braved Borough market this morning (which sounds absolutely manic too - recession, what recession??) while I was having a massage and I understand DS ate his bodyweight in cheese there.

chilledmincepiemama · 20/12/2008 18:57

Rachrox- sorry to hear about your noctural events...makes you wonder about people doesn't it.

The ebay thing really pissed me off...but I suppose the bottom line is that someone else was willing to pay more than me...I updated my bid (I was the only bidder) with 2 minutes to go type thing and put in £83.78 which I think is a pretty odd number and with less than a minute to go I was still winning on my original bid (£65). When the page refreshed after the auction had finished there was another bidder who had only made 1 bid...definately sniper!

I'm going to wait and see if anything comes up after Xmas or I might have to bite the bullet and buy one new...on the basis that I can get around £100 back for it on ebay I suppose that's not too bad.

On the subject of pain relief...I did tens machine for first 4-5 hours (before MWs arrived) but I'm not convinced it worked but wasn't brave enough to turn it off to check
Once MWs checked me, I got in the bath (big bath) and it was amazing...the pain relief from just being in the warm water, well I wouldn't have believed it. I felt so relaxed that I had a snooze!
I did use a lot of G&A but only got that wierd drunk felling initially then felt reasonably normal although I was convinced that my voice was lower than normal...apparently quite a common sensation. I had planned to have pethidine in, in case I wanted/needed it but as DS arrived 2 weeks early I hadn't sorted out the prescription for it yet (MWs don't carry pethidione as standard).
If anyone tells you not to have pain releif and you want it...tell them to poke off!!! You have what you want and don't feel guilty about it...there is nothing brave about being in severe pain!!! If you are feeling relaxed, you will labour better...so do what ever works for you in order to feel relaxed!

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 20/12/2008 20:57

LBB, me too! I?m quite happy with the gestation and size of her, the messing around now is getting to me. It?s funny because I get angry at women who say they?d swap their term complaints, I?d love to say I?m covered in stretchmarks or complain about feeling huge etc, I?d happily take all that to hear my baby cry at birth, for my baby to breathe alone, to be able to put my baby to the breast at birth? the cost is so worth it! But being a previous premature mother and having so much problems with this pregnancy and, most importantly, being the furthest I?ve ever gone, I will happily have her out now! I?m not saying it from an uneducated POV, which it is when someone is complaining about being pregnant at 40 weeks. Dinky, I hope you will proven right still ? although I?d like to get past Christmas at least so I can give it all to Tink.

Just read your post about your own baby ? that wasn?t to your situation, just normal pregnancies where people would rather have an early baby than all the normal stuff. If they?re only doing one growth scan they can?t be that concerned. I wouldn?t push or let them push for an early delivery. They need to be taking it week by week and making a decision when they can see that the size is getting a problem. If the baby is healthy they shouldn?t be thinking about it before 36 weeks and getting to 38 would be even better. I agree with PT, I?ve spoken to many women who have delivered early and had term babies ? I think the Bliss website even says it too ? and they?ve said that the early ones were harder. The reason is that there is less to work with in smaller babies. Think about trying to hold a tennis ball with your hands, touching as much as possible at the same time, then think about doing it with a football.

Laidback, I think they all know me now! I?m fortunate there aren?t many MW?s working the ANC so I don?t get lots of different ones. Unfortunately delivery is run by different MW?s, but then I know them all from four false starts!

PT, that sounds just like Tink! It was two arms and a present between her and Father Christmas and they still had to lean in! But put her in Tesco and she will chat to anyone, she loves to buy things herself, she goes behind the counter to help etc. My granddad plays Father Christmas each year and doesn?t have to worry about a beard, so not sure why she has a problem with him. I wouldn?t say the G&A makes you feel drunk, it makes you not care about being in pain. They say that how you react to alcohol is a good indication of how you will do on it though (which didn?t work for me, I can keep up with the blokes when I get drinking but G&A did work on me). I liked it. I also had a very Janet Balaskas delivery, primal brain and all that.

MS, why not try Ovaltine (very good for pregnancy apparently) and Malteasers do a hot chocolate that?s quite nice. My mum keeps telling me I need to go on a diet because I look pregnant

Talking of ebay, MOS did you ever hear back about your painting?

Littlesez, is this your first?

Rachrox, I?m sorry to hear about your break in . Sounds like it could be PGP. Have you tried taking painkillers before bed (co-codamol)? My obstetrician said to take two before bed, as I will sleep better and be able to handle the pain better in the day if I slept well.

Can someone please check the update on my letter thread? I need some feedback on my updates.

Rachrox · 20/12/2008 22:22

Thanks ladies for all your replies, we've now got a victorian bulldog! He's 3 years old and looks quite scary but a big softie really. Lets hope this keeps the b**tards away....

Tbm I've just looked at symptoms of PGP and quite sure it's that i've got, so at least i can try to fix it. I'm so glad this is last pregnancy for me! Can't believe you've held on for so long with Fifi, with any luck you can get to a stage where she might be able to come home with you. I'm hoping i get to do that as i did with ds and it was so much nicer than leaving them behind in scbu.

Right i'm off to bed, hopefully i'll get some sleep now . G'night all.

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 20/12/2008 22:29

I think any time from now I will probably end up spending a week on transition ward, maybe a night or two in the NNU. I'm amazed I've come so far. Last time I was sent home on Monday (14 days) and readmitted on Thursday.

One good thing about PGP is (in normal cases) it goes within 10 days of birth and if this is your last you will be all done with it soon. Get someone to refer you to the obstetric physio, but be aware that physio in pregnancy is generally advice on moving, positioning and carrying. I did find it useful but a lot of people feel let down when they're not pulled around!

PinkPoinsettias · 20/12/2008 23:05

lbb, i've had 3 differant belts from physio now and can't wear any of the for exactly the same reason... when it's tight enough to support my back and hips it's uncomfotable on the bump. and it's not a positioning thing, they showed me where to put it and it's supoosed to act in place of tummy muscles (remember those? ) so i think it's just a no go for me.

lardybump · 20/12/2008 23:06

Good evening ladies. I have been rubbish at keeping up recently. I must try harder.... Hope you are all well.

I have been so busy recently and it looks like there will be no let up this side of christmas. But at least the house is all done now it has never been so clean....

Really looking forward to meeting you all on the 19th just as long as I can get my fat bum up there that is!!!!! Does anyone else feel like they are going to pop.... I am sure I was never this big first time around...

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 21/12/2008 08:37

Morning all.

Today the festivities begin! We are on a round trip of relatives dropping off presents and then to Sainsbury's for a Christmas shop (gawd help me).

DH went out to the football yesterday and came home at 6.30pm, drunk as a skunk. He had brought home a chinese though so we ate that and he went to bed! And he's still there now

I hope his head holds out today.

RachRox- your break in sounds terrible, I hope you're giving the dog growling lessons to make him sound tough even though he's not!

I feel really big too Lardy, checked myself against the one picture I have of myself at term with dd yesterday and I'm sure I'm that big already at 33 weeks!

KT1983 · 21/12/2008 09:21

Morning all, hope your all having a nice weekend.
We are all sorted for Christmas now, did the food shop yesterday - Wasnt too bad in sainsburys actually. Loadsa goodies in the cupboard now
Also bought HUGE tv!! Think its about 32" - In our small flat it looks stupid...but DP is in love
Also bought some tiny baby clothes - just incase she is as small as they predict & packed them in my hospital bag - Im starting to get this sorted bit by bit. Just a few nursing bras & other little bits n bobs & il ve ready for D-Day!

Yesterday i was having an 'I feel VERY pregnant day' she was kicking all day & night, i was so uncomfortable, and felt so heavy. Ive not had that before, im guessing she might be having a growth spurt, as she is at it again as we speak!! Very active - The doctor called her a live wire...hope thats not a sign of what she will be like when out in the world

Anyway - Of to do Body Combat - Or attempt it! Think baby is getting all these kicking moves from my classes - Like mother like daughter

Have a good Sunday all - Not long tl Crimbo!!

littlesez · 21/12/2008 09:56

Morning ladies!

TBM Yes she is my first, can't you tell! Im probably really annoying everyone with my love being pregnant talk, but I do so much. I feel very fortunate though as I haven't had any complications at all so able to really enjoy my pregnancy and very grateful.

Can't belive how far you have come, how many weeks are you now, wasnt it 25 weeks when your contractions first started, I remember hoping for you that you and your baby were gonna be ok. Hope its soon for you hun xxx

KT How are you finding teaching, i stopped combat 2 weeks ago felt really uncomfy all that bouncing around! At work the last few weeks I have used lots of verbal instructions! Found I couldn't do lots of the demos as the kids are at a stage where their training for competitions so quite advanced. Finished for crimbo and not going back, when do you finish?

Loving being off work, yesterday was 1st saturday off all year! today the plan is to rest and eat nice food, xxx

nkweto · 21/12/2008 10:47

Morning all,

Rosie - sounds like you start to feel better soon, you have really been through the war

Dinky Stinky - I hope your DH recovered enough to tend to his sick wife for the rest of the weekend !

Catstar - Hope everything goes well for your friend, poor little baby. But as DinkyStinky says, she will have no memory
of it

Rachrox - how terrible about your break in, you sound very resiliant about it, I would be in bits..

TBM - well done Fifi for managing to stay in so long, can completely understand that you would like her here now..!

Can't keep up with this thread at all. Feel like I am crawling to Christmas now, am exhausted, and I still have 2 weeks of work after the holiday which I am dreading! I have gone from feeling great to tired, crazy crotch pains and periodic cramps in my feet and thighs (not great in the tube)..

On top of it all.. I forgotten a second antenatal appt. (34 week check).. i dont get a midwife service, so alwasy have to go the GP's and feel that I have been a bit forgotten somewhat..

Hope everyone has had a great weekend and has lots of ENERGY for next week...anyway sorry i am moaning..

mistletoeandlucy · 21/12/2008 11:31

Rachrox - so sorry to hear about the break in.
We had a real spate of them a couple of years back - it's a nightmare and the police are always rubbish.
I think a dog is a really good idea - much more effective than a crappy burglar alarm.

Nkweto - I am also approaching the disabled stage of pregnancy. I can't bend over and am finding it almost impossible to sleep in a comfortable position. I am normally a very fast energetic walker and can feel myself really struggling at the moment.

Having said that, the rampaging heartburn of a few weeks ago has gone, which I guess means the baby has dropped. I'm getting a lot of pains in my hips, which also suggests this.

So maybe little Stanley will be making his way into the world rather earlier than expected and scupper his mum's plans of a nice calm elective c-section on 2nd Feb?

Afternoon ladies, have just done todays housework while ds is in bed. Gonna take him to park for half hour when he wakes. Pain not too bad today but given u on support belt already.
I want to go back to bed.
Littlesez It's lovely that you enjoy being pregnant. It is such a magical time and all of us are well and trruely blessed to be able to do this, just easy to forget sometimes. I for one, need to stop and look at the bigger picture at times!
Probably won't allow them to induce, no point for the sake of a couple of weeks, won't do baby any favours to get him here early, just need to stop thinking of myself
Have decided I have absolutely no faith whatsoever in my health care team or anyone that I have had any involvement with medically since moving out of london. I will not for the rest of this pregnancy discuss with mw their personal experiences or opinions, they can check what they need to and that's that.
And when home visits are done, I'm throwing a huge party to celebrate that I will never have to look at another mw or hv again for as long as I live!!! Those of you who won't be having any more dc's, you are all invited.

Can anyone tell, I'm a bit pissed off?
