Hello lovely ladies, the new thread is open for business

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 14:28

That's what I've now been thinking. I had a horrible time with ds (suprise, suprise) and was just a bot frightened at the prospect of having a bigger baby, but now, the old mother bit must be kicking in because it may not be bet for my baby. I hate being pregnant and want it to be over sooner rather than later but can't use any old excuse to bring it to an early end without feeling like the most selfish person to ever walk!!
If I now tell them that I don't want to be induced and we'll leave it to how nature intends, I'll have a 12lber, 75th degree tear and will have to be re-built!
Told you, drama queen.

laidbackinamangernocribforabed · 19/12/2008 14:28

Dinky - one of my patients had a 12lb er (her 8th baby!!) - but she did have untreated GD

LBB, don't take it personally from the midwife - as you have identified - it can be a bit hit and miss when you are seeing different people each time. I feel lucky that I have seen the same midwife since the start - but I am sure I am a minority in the NHS ?

dinkystinkyclaus · 19/12/2008 14:36

LBB - at the end of the day, it is your decision - your body, your baby! Induction (I know, have been there) is no walk in the park, so not really a guarantee that you'll have an easier time of it - but you definitely wont have an easy time of things if you're tense and worrying about having a 12lber when you give birth otherwise. I think its great you're having a growth scan - hopefully it will help put your worries to rest; if there is any lingering uncertainty, ask for a second scan/opinion and a proper discussion on pros and cons of induction for you and the baby which will hopefully help you and your DP make an informed decision. It will be fine one way or another LBB.

KT1983 · 19/12/2008 14:39

After speaking to people on here about Growth scans - ive been given the impression that they are not that accurate anyway....Which in my case is good....as she may end up being bigger!

No harm having the scan to see what they say?

Il be having my next growth scan the week beginning 5th too. Hopefully she'l have fattened up by then with the amount of food I normally consume over Christmas!

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 15:18

That's good KT,lots of mince pies and turkey and a whole tin of Quality Streets! we'll have scan anyway, at least we get to see him again that way and just see what they say.
Anyway, didn't I say the other day that I was gonna stop bloody moaning?
My SIL and her family sent a box of gifts for ds, got here this morning, there are 8 pressies in there and I'm really excited to know what they are. I've had a feel (I know I'm naughty) and there's 3 books, a dvd, some wooden puzzles (I think) and don't know about the others.

PinkPoinsettias · 19/12/2008 15:32

lbb, it's the opinion of most women who'd had both big and small babies that the big ones were the easier to deliver by far. certainly true for me, dd was 7lb4 whereas ds was 8lb10 and the wrong way round with his arm across his head and he was still easier to get out and left me in alot less pain afterwards!

we hear so much scaremongering about big babies but the reality is that plenty of women birth 9/10/11 pound babies without any difficulty. one woman i know had had 4 kids, none under 9 lbs and she's only petite herself. she's had no major problems with any of them.

having a lull in my supposedly manic day... went to the xmas party this morning and the kids got their presents from santa and are stuffed full of sweets and crisps now, brought car to garage but the part he needs hasn't arrived so dp can bring it back down on monday, did some xmas shopping while i was in town, came home and wrapped as much stuff as i could with the kids watching and am enjoying a well deserved cup of tea now waiting for our friend to ring to say he's arrived so i can go collect him.

dp's disaster of a car really is falling apart though, pulled in at the playschool and went to open the door and the handle made a weird snapping noise and wouldn't work... have to roll down the window now to open it from the outside the mechanic had a good laugh when he heard!

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 15:33

Oh, and OMG, today, for the first time in this pg, someone who wasn't dp or my parents, touched my bump!!! OMG, she is another mum at playgroup but we only say hello and she came over and said "you must be fed up" "a bit" I said and she rubbed my belly
I was holding ds at the time so didn't do or say anything. I did get it all the time with ds but I had my pub then so was kind of public property anyway iyswim.
If I wasn't holding ds, I wonder if I'd have had the front to rub her in return?

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 15:37

PP My mum says the same thing. I was 5lbs 8oz and little bro was 8lb 10oz and she said he was far easier.....
The fear isn't quite so bad now as it was, after all we got pg when ds was 10 months so was still uite fresh..........
Did your kids like Santa? We went to party this morning too and ds screamed and screamed, he was a nightmare this morning.

PinkPoinsettias · 19/12/2008 15:40

it's bizarre isn't it?

i mean if the person is related to you i get it i really do... the bump is their grandchild/niece/nephew/etc..... but when a random person i barely know does it i have to resist the urge to slap their hand i really do!

PinkPoinsettias · 19/12/2008 15:44

dd stood in front of him and listened and nodded but wouldn't go on his lap and ds wouldn't go within 10 feet of him

they're a bit weird like that, an hour later they were in the chemists and dd was wandering in behind the counters chattering to the sales girl so it's not strangers in general...

they're delighted with their pressies though, ds got a red tractor which has made his christmas i'd say!

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 19/12/2008 16:37

Afternoon all.

Just back from the midwife. All is seemingly well and the little monkey is still breech. He seems to be too comfortable where he is. I'm lucky to have a lovely midwife who takes the time to talk to me and has reassured a lot of my fears about going for an elective if he stays that way.

Apparently if I have a word with the anae.. anath... ane... the Nice Drug Man, he can pop a little something into my cannula to make me feel nice and relaxed and enjoy it rather than being terrified.

HOORAY FOR DRUGS!

Oh and I have finished my last week at work! Only a couple more odd days to do!

I am craving malty things, DH has gone to Sainsbury's and has bought me a bottle of real ale. I'm going to have a little sup tonight and wrap presents

QuestionkidMerrilyOnHigh · 19/12/2008 17:05

Just popping in to say hi. I've had a manic, manic week doing handover but at last it feels like the end is in sight. I only have Monday and half of Tuesday left and then I'm off.

God I'm excited, I am so over work.

We've got my MIL staying this weekend - fortunately we get on very well and she's an easy house guest, plus she bought some cute presents for the baby so she's welcome any time!

Anyway, have a good weekend everyone. Anticipate major excitement from me on Tuesday when I walk out of my office and say Au revoir to my colleagues for at least 6 months. Yayyyyyyy!!!

chilledmincepiemama · 19/12/2008 17:51

Hello all. Just popping to say a quick hello and check up on how you are all feeling.

DS ran into a wall earlier today and now has the most enormous egg bruise on his forehead...not looking forward to the 2 hourly waking to check he hasn't got a real injury

Ebay update...I know that I should just get over it but its really annoying. I keep getting sniped and its driving me mad! I don't want to do it too as it is against the rules but may be forced if this continues...its happened 4 times now for bedside cribs...

mistletoeandlucy · 19/12/2008 17:55

Hello everyone - glad you're all finishing work soon and getting ready for the joys of xmas and maternity leave.

As a self employed person, it's kind of up to me (and one nightmare client) when I finally throw in the towel, though at least my work with the students is done and dusted. Face the joy of handing in my maternity benefits form to "Job Centre Plus" next week - my claim is so complicated, I would need a small lorry for all the paperwork I need to give them and I feel very uncomfortable putting it all in the post.

Just had a lovely afternoon with dh and ds, buying and decorating the tree - ds was so excited as I hung up my ever expanding collection of tacky decorations.

Either that or the endless number of chocolate mini rolls he's been scoffing over the past few days .

Am roasting red onions now in homage to Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall and they smell DELICIOUS.

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 19/12/2008 18:00

Have you tried entering the ABSOLUTE maximum you would be prepared to pay quite close to the end of an auction?

The bids go up in small increments as others bid against there but you don't need to be there physically bidding.

And snipers can be lulled into a false sense of security as to how high the bidding will go.

Also, always bid odd figures like £XX.73 as people tend to bid round numbers and it can make all the difference.

I have spent most of the day in bed... YAWN!

dinkystinkyclaus · 19/12/2008 18:10

LBB, Pink - DS used to be terrified of Santa. Its only this year when he's been happy to see him - he's normally a pretty sociable little boy so not too sure what it was scaring him about the big man the past couple of years.

mistletoeandlucy · 19/12/2008 19:02

chilled - the trick is to WATCH and then bid at the very end, or as swampster says, put in your absolute max at the end.

Totally agree with the odd numbers thing - for some weird reason it does the trick.

I have bought all of DS's presents and most of my maternity clothes off ebay and usually get what I'm bidding for.

The only trouble is that some people have their computers programmed to bid and there's nothing you can do if you come up against this.

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 19:17

PP My ds is normally quite outgoing, he'll do the same, try to get behind counters, follow random strangers, but infront of the big red scary man.....He got 3 books which were lovely, we enjoy reading and he has loads of books so that was nice.

MS that sounds good. I yelled at the drug man when I saw the needle, 5 seconds later I was telling him how much I loved him and he was my best friend for life
Dp's going down the shop once he's bathed ds, might join you in a little tipple this evening.....
CM hope your ds is ok, boys hey?

Glad you all finishing work soon, it's a relief isn't it?

Don't know what dp is doing but ds is laughing hysterically in the bath! , so much so it sounds like he's about to cry or be sick! Dp is so great with him

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 19/12/2008 19:22

Evening all

Have caught up but forgotten everything already I'm afraid....

dinky....hope you're feeling better and DH got up and helped out.

I also do drugs in labour....spent half my last pg saying, oh I don't want that or that.....but the epidural I had was the best

I don't have to go back to work until 1st December 2009

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 19:28

I really wanted the epidural with ds, but couldn't as drug man was in theatre when we arrived and then they kept telling me one more push one more push (fing liers!) so only had the spinal block when they got the forceps out. This time, I don't want the epidural, but at the same time I do but I don't (my own version of vicky pollard)
My mum had epidural with me and G&A with bro and said G&A was so much better.....

Norty A whole year off! Yay.....

dinkystinkyclaus · 19/12/2008 19:36

Yay - congrats on starting your maternity leave LittleMissNorty. A whole year - an deinitely v of that.

DH did eventually surface again at 4 and was much more human and has been a star with DS all afternoon (currently doing his bed time stories) and has fixed washing machine and has made casserole for dinner, enabling me to rest for the last couple of hours, so is back in my good books. Am keeping my fingers crossed that a good nights sleep tonight will fend off lurgy for good as have early morning appointment tomorrow I dont want to cancel (cashing in my DH's birthday present to me - massage and facial).

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 19:40

Your dh came through then. That's good. Got to get dinner on myself.......
Have a good evening ladies

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 19/12/2008 19:45

oh a massage and facial sounds like heaven....

I also had G&A with DD....and it was good (at the beginning), but didn't cut the mustard with me IYKWIM. As it happened I had an emergency CS, so all they had to do was top up my epidural and I was ready.

PinkPoinsettias · 19/12/2008 20:39

of the massage and facial dinky... enjoy it, you deserve the pampering after the amount of bugs you've been catching this pregnancy. hopefully the pamper session will help with the lurgy too.

i was totally put off the G&A by lots of people telling me it makes you feel drunk..... that would be a nightmare for me as i rely heavily on mental tricks to zone out and cope with the whole thing and i doubt feeling drunk would be condusive to that!

turkeyandherbstuffinggarden · 19/12/2008 21:16

Evening all...have my feet up finally after the chaos that reigned in the herbhouse this afternoon, 5 under 3 and one 6 month old. All the toys were out, ds was like a duracell bunny and a bit overexcited but tea went down well.

Just about caught up on this chatty ol' thread. Dinky if it's any consolation my dh rolled in at 2.30 this morning too. He went out on a team dinner and I woke up with a start about 1.15 realising he was still out. Usually I would have rolled over and gone to sleep as I don't tend to worry about him but for some reason alsorts was going through my mind so stayed up like an over anxious parent til I heard the taxi pull up. He then fell in to [the spare room] bed pissed and snoring like a good 'un and I read til 3.30am . We're both exhausted tonight as I've had a really busy week one way or another. Time for bed me thinks. Hope you enjoy the facial and feel a bit better.

Yay for early mat leave - I'm joining those of you going off next week- last day is wednesday but it's only a half day. I think my jobshare is a bit nervous about her cover for the next 6 months but I'm sure she'll be fine. I'm back in August (if i still have a job and can get nursery place). Looking forward to a bit of nesting.

Also, think we were talking about nighties a zillion years ago and Primark. If you can't face Primark but have a big Tesco's near you I bought great jersey cotton nighties in Tesco's today - 2 for £5 knee length and just perfect for the c-section (or maybe just good anyway if you don't want digging in pj's).

Hope you all have a bug free and relaxing weekend
