Happy Friday to you, MS!

Had a lovely time(!) shopping in town yesterday, but have finished all my shopping - John has to buy one last thing (for me I think), so is braving Bluewater tonight !

Midwife still happy that madam is okay - heartbeat strong and good rate and she had a wriggle, so seems fine. My blood pressure is a bit high, but I had just been shopping, and I'm obviously a bit concerned about the baby, so she felt it was understandable. However, I did get a list of conditions which would prevent my home birth - high BP; low BP; before 37 weeks (even 36 +6); 12 days late; madam has big head; madam's more than 12 pounds (ow!). Right now the pains have gone, but when I'm getting the pains, I half wish it was labour as it would mean she'd be on her way, and the pains would stop soon!

Hope you all have a lovely day today... I'll be on as a distraction to wrapping pressies, so hope someone's around to keep me company!

Happy Friday MS !

Well feel marginally better today having only woken up three times last night. Throat is still sore but is definately better than on previous mornings so think i am on the mend Thanks for the gargling with painkiller advice Swampy - i would have tried that as a last resort too but i think i might just be coming out the other side, added to this my gagging reflex is terrible at the moment so might have just made me sick anyway but i will remember it for future reference.

Have promised to take the girls to see the late showing of Twilight this evening ( this was made over a week ago ) so hopefully if i rest up today should be able to get my snuffly arse outside the door tonight as its sort of tradtion with our family. The day they break up from school we go to the movies that evening and it marks the beginning of Christmas for us. I bought all of the cards yesterday, you know the individual ones like to mum, grandma, daughters, hubby, parents in law ect ect BUT omg how expensive does that work out!? They are like 3 or 4 quid each and you end up spending a fortune!!! We used to have a card factory where i lived this time last year in Guildford (or maybe it was Woking) but i used to get all of my cards in there and they were far more reasonably priced and i could get away with only spending around £20 quid at most ... ah well, will have to try and hunt one out somewhere!

Hope everyone elses Friday is going well

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 08:24

MrsCY are you saying your baby is going to be 12lbs or if she is 12lbs?

I ended up staying on sofa last night due to his snoring. Suprised we didn't get complaints from neighbours!!

When I was having my rough dsays, I booked a 'non-procedure' appointment with mw for later this morning which the receptionist wasn't happy about. Now that I'm feeling better, i don't need to go but would feel awful to cancel. However, movements have slowed down alot didn't get anything at times I'm used to since yesterday afternoon, so maybe I should go just to check heartbeat and maybe have quick chat about how I've been feeling.

dinkystinkyclaus · 19/12/2008 08:26

Morning all. DH rolled in at around 2.30 this morning drunk as skunk and proceeded to raid my purse AND DS's activity moneybox to scrape together the money to pay the taxi as he thought he'd lost his wallet (which he found dropped on the floor by the taxi when he went out to pay the man). Not in my good books. He was feeling very sorry for himself when he had to get up just after 6 this morning but getting no sympathy from me. DS is also not in my good books as he managed to jam a plastic shoe horn (you know, the perfect size to block water pipes) into the water outlet pipe in the detergent box in our washing machine this morning. God only knows how we're going to get it out - I think it needs a plumber to take the bloody machine apart to get it (can see it but cant reach it) but not so DH is insistent he'll be able to deal with it tonight... we'll see, he's bloody useless with a hangover. Oh, and on top of that, I was up all night with a temperature so am calling in sick today to try to sleep it off but our poor nanny has an infected wisdom tooth too so may end up having to deal with DS instead while she goes to see the dentist... ho hum...

Best of luck with the wrapping MrsY. All those factors which would work against you having a home birth are exactly the same as would work against you having a birth in a MLU (at least in London) and plenty of people have births both at home and in MLU, so try not to worry about it too much. If any of those things do happen, there isnt really much you can do to prevent it now.

dinkystinkyclaus · 19/12/2008 08:29

LBB - go in and chat to your midwife (its good to talk ) and get little one checked out if you're worried about reduced movement.

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 08:31

dinky sounds like fun!
Hopefully your nanny will get an appointment quickly, they'll have a look and give anti-b's and she can be back with you in the hour

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 08:33

If you haven't already guessed, I'm one of those that can't really function without some sort of drama to deal with so not sure if I'm worried, plus I've been up most of night on here, reading book, watching tv, doing ironing, so babe isn't used to me being awake, prob just that, but the appointments there so I will go anyway.

dinkystinkyclaus · 19/12/2008 08:38

Am keeping my fingers crossed for that LBB.

Rosie - glad you're starting to feel more human. Have fun at the Twilight premiere tonight. Fully expect you to come out having a crush on a teenage vampire too

MrsChristmasY · 19/12/2008 08:52

if she's 12 pounds - and I sincerely hope she's not !

Dinky - Poor DH!!!! John's out tonight and tomorrow night (and is working both Sat and Sun) so will be bear with very sore head for next few days - am going to enjoy laughing at him! I guess I always knew that I'd have to be complication free for a home birth, but the list of obstacles felt quite long - I don't mind, but I'm mindful of the expense if we buy all the stuff and end up in hospital. I'm tempted to knock the idea on the head, but we'll just see how it goes. Wisdom teeth issues are so common, it'll all be over quickly, I'm sure...

lbb - You might as well go, if nothing else, you get to hear bub's heartbeat, I could listen all day...

Rosie hope you continue to feel better - was Twilight your idea or their's?

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 08:57

phew MrsY, think I'd have a heart malfunction if I thought my baby would be 12lbs!!

KT1983 · 19/12/2008 09:12

Morning,

Soooo Glad its FRIDAY!!! Just Tuesday & Half day Wednesday left at work for me now....
Im very excited about it, a little bit apprehensive at the same time, as we are moving out of London, so I wont be returning to my current job, so il be officially unemployed after Maternity pay finishes.

On the plus side, Ive been getting lots of presents from members in the gym. One lady even knitted me a little cardigan, hat & mittens set. They are beautiful & so tiny

Sympathise with you dinky on the hungover DH. Ive been pre-warned that my DP will be a write off tomorrow - he is at his Christmas works do tonight. Although it starts at 4pm when they finish work god knows what state & time he will roll in at!

Im supposed to be going out for my Christmas meal tonight - Except our manager hasnt booked anywhere & around Embankment where I work is a nightmare at the best of times let alone the last Friday before Christmas!

Hope you all have a lovely day & feeling festive as I am

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 09:16

Morning KT, where are you moving to? You've prob said before but I'm so wrapped up in myself (selfish cow!)

KT1983 · 19/12/2008 09:51

We are moving to Kettering - DP's family all live in Leicestershire - and mine are all up North, so makes sense to be a little closer for support etc...Plus our new house is 1/2 the rent of our little tiny flat here in London.

I really love moving house - but Im thinking this move may be a little different...

I picture myself like Monica in Friends with a clipboard & headset shouting out directions
Haha - Poor DP, wont know whats hit him...He thinks its going to be a breeze!

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 09:58

Haha. We were like that when we moved. My brother came over to the old house, and I was like "right, you pack the clothes and bedroom, you livingroom, I'll do the kitchen" Then 10mins later yelling "no, not like that, like this"
Dp and bro spent most of the day watching me show them how I wanted everything packed and as I couldn't load the van myself, I'm shouting orders from front door.....And OMG when we got to the flat, my mum was here too, tried to order her about but was soon put in my place

So exciting for you though, new house, new baby.......

MrsChristmasY · 19/12/2008 10:09

When is the move, KT?

KT1983 · 19/12/2008 10:27

I find it hard not to get involved - I know Im going to have to take a backseat, but blokes and packing just dont mix!
Ive told my mum to steer well clear - I know she means well, but she can get a bit much at times.
She has offered to be at the new house to give it a huge clean over before we get there....Of course I accepted her offer on that one

We move on the 2nd January - So my new years eve will be one of packing & organisation & perhaps a chinese takeaway

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 19/12/2008 10:37

Hey all, sorry I?ve not been in for a while, I get put off by how much you all talk I?m worried about catching up.

Hospital are happy with everything, FiFi is still on the same line although still small. We?re continuing the two weekly scans to make sure she stays on her line. Tink has chosen a name for her sister, she can?t see why Daddy said no ?Isobel Sara Lily? although she can?t say Isobel, it sounds like Lily so she says ?Lily Sara Lily? but sometimes she forgets where she is so she says ?Lily Sara Lily Sara Lily!? occasionally she thinks to add in a surname too.

I?ve been referred back to the physio as I?m struggling to wait bear on my right leg, not for the leg itself but the pain in my hip and back that side is now making walking hard. I used to walk around the flat without crutches because of space, but now even that?s hard. TBD left the vac on the hall floor and I can?t step over the hose!

I?ve never had a linea nigra, I?ve put it down to not going to term, so it will be interesting to see if anything happens this time. My belly button is opening out though. I keep getting pain in my belly button when I have contractions, I don?t remember that from last time.

Laidback, that?s how I delivered Lily-Hope. I didn?t push I raised my hips.

TBM - good to hear Fifi is still hanging in there . Sounds like you are having a rough time with your hips and back. Hope the physio can make some difference.

Looks like my colleague's theory about linea nigra is more of an old wives' tale then!

Am still considering the videoing as I feel that although I did all the work last time, I didn't really get to see anything. LBB - maybe I'll make do with a mirror instead though.

KT - sounds like a very sensible move up North. I almost regret moving away from my family and old friends - think I will feel it even more this time with 2 DC's and no help!!

I was out on my work do yesterday afternoon/evening in the City and it was absolute carnage! I was so glad not to be drinking - some very sore heads this morning and a few apologies drifting round about drunken behaviour. The journey home was interesting too, one lady got chucked off the train at Surbiton having "decorated" some of her fellow passengers. Mind you, I've been there a few times myself!! MAde me think about Little O and what she might be like when she discovers alcohol . DH and I want her to have a healthy attitude but know that we're no angels!

My friend had a little girl last week and they have discovered a 7cm growth in her abdominal cavity which they are removing on Monday. I'm so sorry for them because it's their first baby and they must be so worried. The operation itself may take hours and they don't know what the growth is. The hope is that it is "only" a benign cyst.

Hope everyone starting to recover from various bugs and things and all antenatal checks going well. Will try to check in over the weekend, but if I don't get the chance, have good 'un .

rosieposeyxmaspuddingandpie · 19/12/2008 11:37

MrsY Twilight was 'our' idea lol - i wanted to see it as much as them as me and eldest two girls have been passing the books between us for the last couple of months. When i was in hospital at the weekend i made DH go to Borders and get me the last book which i polished off sharpish. Its somehow not right to have a crush on Cedric Diggory is it but Edwards is just sooo yummy so i know what you mean Dinky

LLB if your worried about lo's movements go and get them checked out, ive been up to DAU three times now for that in the last few weeks and feel really silly but its better to be safe than sorry. Youve got the appt now so will be fine im sure

laidbackinamangernocribforabed · 19/12/2008 11:58

Oh Catstar, what a scary time for your friend. Hope everything is OK for your friend's DD.

TBM. Well done again for getting this far....I am wondering if you won't be the first now !!

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 14:03

catstar your poor friend, she must be beside herself.

TBM Although it is great you've gone this far, really hope it isn't too much longer for you now.

I saw mw she said according to pathology report she has on her computer system, the only UTI I've had was in July and the GP has been treating me 'just in case' protein turns into infection.
I said to her, surely they should have told me there wasn't an infection as it must be my choice to take medicines or not?
Also measuring 36 weeks (I'm 32) and when she asked why I was booked for scan and I told her that they said they induce if big baby, she told me to stop being silly, she had 2 10lbers that were back to back and I should just have an epidural!
It's just me isn't it, they see me coming a mile off

dinkystinkyclaus · 19/12/2008 14:08

Afternoon all - DH has come home in a sorry state (apparently the guys he was out with are in even worse states) and gone to bed; am sure he should be tending to his ill pregnant wife on her sickbed and not the other way round . DS is napping but I think I've broken my fever this morning while sleeping it off so have sent our poor nanny home (the first appointment they could give her is 5pm tonight and she just looks in so much pain, poor girl) and will deal with DS until 4 (going to do crafty christmas tree tags for the cookies and cakes we're making for family next week) then kick DH out of bed to deal with him.

Catstar - your poor friend; will keep my fingers crossed everything will be ok and it is benign. It is good that they have caught it really early on and the little girl will have absolutely no memory of it as she's so little but her poor parents .

TBM - glad to see you're still out and about(ish) - looks like I was wrong with my prediction of Fifi arriving before xmas. Sorry to hear about your hip pains though - sounds horrendous.

KT1983 · 19/12/2008 14:10

lbb Not the most sympathetic midwife you have there then?
I think ive only seen one midwife that I actually liked. The rest are just snappy & not very helpful.

When are you having your scan to check the size of baby?

littleboyblue · 19/12/2008 14:16

Hiya KT. I must just have that look about me!
Scan is on the 5th Jan, but speaking to people and being on here it all sounds a bit hot and miss and that they just make it up. My friend just now said her sister was told her baby was going to be just under 5lbs at term, she was 6lbs 4oz. For her next she was told it was going to be a big baby and was 5lbs 3oz, so they really just don't know do they?
Plus me and dp have been discussing it again as I'm starting tio think that if I allow them to deliver early (although it was me that kicked up a stink for them to check) I'm being quite selfish to lo. There are plenty of women that for whatever reason can't go full term or have been told to expect smaller babies and would kill to be in my position so should I go through with it? Dp thinks it's stranger they are only doing the one scan, almost like they are humouring me as surely weight gain varies week to week?

dinkystinkyclaus · 19/12/2008 14:23

I think a single growth scan can be misleading LBB - you could always ask about a second one if they are talking about induction and ensure you explore all your options (including getting a list of pros and cons for both you and the little one if you do end up being induced) with the doctor - write down everything you want to discuss with them for the post-scan appointment.

My DS was just over 9lbs - am pretty sure this one will be a 10lber but what will be, will be. As long as DS2 is not the fabled 12lber that Mrsy's midwife referred to, I'll be happy.
