Hello lovely ladies, the new thread is open for business

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
KT1983 · 17/12/2008 14:08

Thankyou all for the reassurance - I know im probably just over reacting about it, but I guess its natural to worry.
I was only small at 6lbs2oz, and my brother was only a tiny bit bigger.
Perhaps small babies will just run in the family?
DP was 5lbs7oz, but he was 5 weeks premature.

Im starting to feel a little bit better about it, knowing that so many people have or at least know someone that have had a small baby.

Talking of Small babies....Any new from Tink??

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 17/12/2008 14:11

Hello everyone

At work so can't be long, but LBB, I would be complaining as well. UTIs in late pregnancy can bring on labour and and you shouldn't have to wait. I would have done the losing my temper bit personally

MS Hope the call goes ok, but DD is the important one

KT Please don't worry....my sister has had 6 babies, none of whom were over 5lb 6oz and all were fine. I'm a large lady and even my DD was only 6lb 7oz...not big in the scheme of things....meant the clothes lasted ages . As long as they don't stop growing, all will be ok....that's partly what the growth scans will be for, to make sure your placenta is still working and nouishing the baby allowing them to grow.

right back to work for me.....

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 17/12/2008 14:19

x-post LBB - birthweight is thought to be hereditary IIRC

PinkPoinsettias · 17/12/2008 14:56

KT, it's very common for babies to be very cloes to their mothers birth weight... mine and dd's birth weights were almost identical!

dinkystinkyclaus · 17/12/2008 15:06

DS was heavier than me as a baby but virtually identical to DH's birthweight so maybe something in it (he's certainly inherited DH's other genes - including the selective tidiness gene, the being late for everything gene and the being occasionally quite silly in a very sweet way gene)

onwardandmerrilyupward · 17/12/2008 15:39

Last I heard TBM was back home with the babe still tucked up safely inside (that was earlier today).

I expect she'll be along soon

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 17/12/2008 16:06

This group can talk! Can you imagine if we all met up in real life? I?m not sure if we?d have nothing to say or wouldn?t shut up!

I?m home now, but moving in with my parents to make hospital trips easier. Monday night they started again but didn?t really show up on the monitor (they pretty much stopped when they pulled it out [grr]) but I was resting at 40 my stomach was so hard. Tuesday they said I could go home but did another monitor first, I didn?t think I was getting any but although the resting number was only about 20 I was having some pretty big contractions, but the gap was getting longer and they were losing strength so they were happy to let me go. I?m really fed up now, I feel if she was out I wouldn?t be living on this knife edge and I?d feel a bit more in control (the lack of control isn?t helping my previous Birth Trauma).

Being with my parents is great for being back with Tink, but does insist on cosleeping and I was in a single bed last night!

LBB, that?s true, they always say 36 to term for a release date, so the closer you are to that the less time they need to keep you in. If I can make it to the weekend they might not even keep her in the unit or just for a night, I might get to go straight to transition ward, could be kept in a week. If we can make it till after Christmas TBD is off work the week after and wouldn?t have to lose much holiday (we can?t afford for him to take paternity leave).

How about the new thread being ?can we escape 2008 without any babies arriving?? I?m rather impressed that no one has had theirs yet, statistically we should be having about 8-10 premature babies and we?re getting into the time when they should come.

MS, thanks for the warning I really want to have a go at the fudge, I?ll have a go on my own then might make some with my nephew (4) who loves cooking with me.

MrsY, I think we need to. I noticed that there are a few people on there who haven?t posted. I can also tell who isn?t from here by who hasn?t replied to my friends add.

KT, Primark are good for hospital bag clothes, you don?t want to spend more money than you would be upset to lose. The rule with BH is if you?re not sure, it is BH! When it?s the real thing you will have no doubt in your mind. Your baby doesn?t sound that small, TBH, not that far behind Tink who was quite big. They put on a lb a week in the last few weeks so that sounds like they?re underestimating it. Have they done a Doppler scan too? That?s where they check the blood flow to the baby. That will tell them if the baby is getting all the blood from each pump. The reason baby is better out than in is because if they?re not growing then something is wrong and they can give them more help outside. To be honest if they were that worried they?d be doing scans more often.

LBB you need to have a word with your practice manager, that?s disgusting! Also UTI is a major cause of prematurity so they shouldn?t be messing you around like this! You have a right to see whichever doctor you want to. And what Dinky said!

dinkystinkyclaus · 17/12/2008 16:44

TBM - glad you're ok and Fifi's ok (the little madam that she is!). Fingers crossed she decides to position herself right so you do get to have your chance at a VBAC after fighting so hard for it.

littleboyblue · 17/12/2008 19:19

Evening all. Relieved that Fifi sticking in there TBM but feel for you having to go through all of this.

KT I was thinking this afternoon that if you forget for a moment all these big 8,9,10,11lb + babies we hear about, I'm sure the recorded average is still about 7-71/2lbs, so in comparison, 5 isn't really too bad.

Went hospital, they were lovely there, very understanding of my hormone rushes (!) and very understanding of my worries. I was however informed by the registrar that these tablets will be safe to take at this stage. They have said the baby will cope alot better if I didn't have this infection, therefore the benefits far outweight the riskd they've said.

littlesez · 17/12/2008 19:31

lbb I think the letter is great i hope it helps you to relieve some of the stress this has caused you, sometimes writing it all down really helps, but do send it to the doctors and higher i think its disgusting they have not taken you more seriously x

tbm glad your home safe with parents

kt ditto what everyone has already said and dont worry about worrying! I would be the same, not an over reaction, its your baby x

rosieposeyxmaspuddingandpie · 17/12/2008 19:49

Hello all

Just poking my nose in to see how every one is doing. I for one am still rough as a badgers backside and still finding it hard to get up out of bed as feel so poorly but i did at least make it into hospital today.
Wow your going great guns with Fifi TBM - it would be really fab for you if you could have her and then avoid her going into scbu. KT dont worry - these weights as you know are a bit hit and miss anyway, DD2 was just under 6lb at 37 weeks when she was born and was a petite, gorgeous, thriving babe. If your on the small side yourself then its not surprising if you are carrying a proportional baby to your size.
LLB hope you get something sorted for your UTI soon enough as its not good to have one at any stage in pregnancy, its very that you haven't been better taken care of over this.
Growth scan went ok for lo today he is bang on what he was three weeks ago - so still measuring large for dates but it hasnt gone over the 100th percentile so thats all good and means that my blood sugars are fairly well under control. Sonographer was putting his estimated weight at 4lbs 3 ozs and i will be 31 weeks on Saturday ... fingers crossed for under 10lbs though as the need to pee constantly is increasing with each lb!

rosieposeyxmaspuddingandpie · 17/12/2008 19:51

meant to say that lo is bang on the percentile chart that he was three weeks ago according to his age not that he hasnt grown in three weeks!

littleboyblue · 17/12/2008 20:01

Hi rosie I was thinking that as I read, not grown in 3 weeks!
Glad it's all going well.

turkeyandherbstuffinggarden · 17/12/2008 20:11

Hi everyone....You've been chatting some.
LBB at doctor giving you prescription - was he blind? Hope you get yourself sorted.

MS DH and I had the norovirus back in Feb - we carted DS off to my Mums for a couple of days and although he maybe had had previously a mild version of it (he was over it by the time she got him)- she then got it....I'd be really careful if I were you. It was hideous and is very very infectious. If you can avoid having DSD however hard that might be to explain to her, then I would.

KT a good friend of mine had a 5.5lb little girl who is now the same age as ds and she is perfectly ok. She is petite but is really catching up with the others now height wise. Her second little girl who is only 8 weeks old also was about 5.5lbs and my friend was fairly closely monitored as they said she was measuring small but in the end the hospital admitted they were over cautious and in fact there was no need for it (she was in hospital 2/3 times a week with a toddler to look after/couldn't drive and no outside help to speak of - it was a really tough time for her) - they said (after her 2nd was born) that she just has small babies....her GP said he thought it was all a storm in a teacup. She's perfect.... Anyway, I second everything everyone else has said about small babies in general.

Having a busy time visiting friends on my days off delivering pressies but it's all lovely and sociable. We're having a toddler xmas tea party on Friday pm at mine so the house will be a tip once they've all come and trashed it !....

Byee for now.

MamaStuffedGoose · 17/12/2008 20:29

Swampster - I'm thinking itti bitti - d'lish - what do you reckon?

chilledmincepiemama · 17/12/2008 20:32

blimey you chatterboxes

I have now started my Xmas leave no work for 2 1/2 weeks!!!!!

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 17/12/2008 20:45

Itti Bittis are cute, cute, cute - but if I don't change one after about two hours he is sodden.

I think they would be GREAT if you got one of those elusive NON-heavy wetter-type babies.

I really can't resist them though, I have two large ones for DS2 with a spare set of inserts. I'm sure I will wind up with a couple of smalls and a couple of mediums too, for DS3 but NO MORE THAN THAT.

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 17/12/2008 20:46

And please send more tapas, I think MarkStretch intercepted mine.

pluto · 17/12/2008 20:52

I cannot wait for Friday 3.35pm. Two weeks of holiday and Christmas cheer!

I saw my MW today. Babe still transverse. She wants me to do lots of leaning forwards resting my elbows on tables and buy an excercise ball to lean forward on. It's going to need to move before I see her again in 3 weeks or I think there may be a ? over a VBAC but I figure that's still plenty of time.

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 17/12/2008 21:13

I did NOT eat her tapas.

Unless it was disguised as a mince pie.

rosieposeyxmaspuddingandpie · 17/12/2008 21:22

MS just read back - im just getting over norovirus and its knocked me for six (thats what doc in hospital said i had) and id avoid like the proverbial plauge anyone who has either had it or is in contact with anyone who has it. My immune system is so weak now that i have caught a really nasty upper respiritory virus on top of what i had at the weekend - they took another blood test today as my white blood cell count was well up - something to do with the bugs in my system - anyway i wouldnt wish this on anyone so hope that you can avoid contact this weekend for your sakes - baby was fine through it all but it makes you feel lousy and the stomach cramps are not good as could bring on premature labour ... heres hoping no one else on this thread gets it! Its horrid and i feel poo! (still want tapas though :-))

MamaStuffedGoose · 17/12/2008 21:49

Order away on the tapas ladies, plenty more coming your way.

On the nappy side of things, I need something easy peasy so probably an all-in-one type affair. I can't be faffing about (I've always been a disposables girl up to now but nappies are more than TWICE THE PRICE here!!!!!). I also need something that doesn't have extra linings to bin and buy more of because I'd have to get them shipped which would be a pain. Never had a non-heavy wetter before, doubt I'll start now. Though my two boys did poo in completely opposite ways - DS1 was a 8x a day boy, literally every time I fed him. DS2 could go without for days then super-evacuation (really worried me to start with). So could go either way with this one! Would prefer to have multiple sizes. Swampster - What do you think?

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 17/12/2008 22:20

BumGenius all-in-ones (not the one-size)... they are sized, seem to get good reviews, I haven't tried them but love the one-sized ones.

Paper liners come on HUGE rolls that last forever - if you have an idea of poo habits you can catch most in paper but not use liners all the time. Doubt if ANY all-in-one would last a full night though.

STEP AWAY from the norovirus, MarkStretch! And give me back my tapas!!!

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 17/12/2008 22:31

From that Spanish site, all three of these nappies have their followings not tried any, they are stuffies/pockets and two are sized.

And the Popolino all-in-one.

I'd try one of each if I were you and take it from there.

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 17/12/2008 23:00

Bugger! Now I want some Fuzzibuns and Wonderoos!
