Jingle bells, Batman smells, Mince Pies all the way...

Sorry - it's the middle of the night and I'm wide awake for no good reason. Fatso is making up for a day of worrying stillness by kicking me around a lot, but good to know he's there.

Thanks for all the nappy advice Swampster; I'd love to be able to use reusables although several of my friends started with similar brilliant intentions and fell by the wayside! A few people have said 'don't bother in the early days, you'll have enough new stuff to deal with' but surely, as its all new anyway, why not get your head around using them from the start? I suspect if I start getting into a routine which is based around disposables I ain't never going to change...

Glad you're still cooking with gas TBM although it sounds like it must be getting very frustrating too - lots of good thoughts heading your way!

Hey Rosie, you really sound like you've been through the mill. My SIL had novovirus when pregnant with her 3rd - she, hubby and the two toddlers were all puking up for a week and I know it knocked them sideways although it didn't cause any problems with the pregnancy. Hope you feel loads better soon.

Also, a little wave at Catstar - kitchen nearly done? Really hope you get to potter about in it at the weekend getting everything just so! How's the name ideas going?

Right - over to iPlayer to see what I can watch through headphones at this ungodly hour of the morning!

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 18/12/2008 08:51

Morning ladies

Already had 2 bowls of porridge today ...I can't stop eating.....and I'm at home today which makes it 10 times worse....

last day at work tomorrow.......for a few of us I think?

LBB - glad the hospital sorted you out and hope you'll feel better soon. FWIW, I've been battling with my GP throughout the whole of my pg (as I'm on ADs for anxiety) and know what its like to have a crap GP that you have no confidence in - even when they are giving you something that is safe for you and baby...I shall also be changing surgeries...

dinkystinkyclaus · 18/12/2008 09:01

Snoweejaykay - sounds like your little one was sleeping all day then decided to have an all night rave. Hope you managed to get some sleep. Was kept up half the night by DS (who refused to eat his dinner but then spent most of the night waking up complaining he was hungry and asking if it was breakfast time yet - to which the answer was a firm no, its sleep time, you'll have your breakfast in the morning) who then decided morning starts at 5.45 today... yawn.

Rosie - poor you; it seems to be one thing after another - hope you feel better soon. Great news that the little man is still ok inside though.

LBB - given what the hospital have said about the tablets, you may wish to amend your letter a little (to state that no explanation was given to you by the doctor as to why this tablet, stated not to be suitable in pregnancy, was prescribed to you) before you send it. Also, at the end perhaps ask for an explanation as you now feel that you have lost confidence in the GP surgery and are considering re-registering with another surgery. I think you should still complain, particularly about their singular failure to treat you properly and shocking receptionist behaviour though.

Herbgarden - that toddler party sounds so cute. Well done on you for hosting it. I'm still recovering from DS's birthday in April when we had 6 little people trashing our house...

Pluto - take a look at the spinning babies website. Great advice on positioning pesky babies who want to lie breech/transverse/anywhich way but down. Enjoy your xmas break - you too Chilled Mama.

Had some lovely news this morning - the roommate I used to share a room with (who miscarried twins at a late stage) has moved back to Australia. She emailed to say she's pregnant again, just over 4 months gone, with a little girl. I couldnt be more delighted for her; has set up my day.

Swampster - you need to join CNA (Cloth Nappies Anonymous). I hear they have a 12 wrap no liner program for severe addicts like you...

littleboyblue · 18/12/2008 09:44

Thanx Dinky, was going to amend it later anyway. I've had a very tearful, emotional week or so and am not really sure how I feel about anything and everything iykwim. Am I excited about new baby? Am I dreading it? Everything is so mixed up at the mo, I think I'm gonna give myself a few days to settle down before I do or say anything about anything.

It is quite normal to have a part of you dreading the arrival of a new baby isn't it? Maybe dreading is a bit strong a word, but there isn't the excitment of the unknown this time, there's the whole just as it got easier with ds, we're going back to the beginning again......
I'm sure it's all just hormonal and being so tired doesn't help, the bad weather too and the fact that it's hard running round after the monster and moan moan moan moan moan.
And I'm feeling really guilty about not wanting any bedroom activity at all, think dp is very frustrated, I also can't be arsed to go shopping or cook dinner so he's doing everything on top of working 60 hours or so a week.
Anyway, gonna get us both dressed and attempt a trip to the shops for bits and pieces and need to get loads of housework done and want to take ds out of the house and go somewhere that isn't tesco before I turn him into a tv addicted recluse!

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 18/12/2008 09:45

I MUST do some work today.

littleboyblue · 18/12/2008 09:46

In fact, it's that bad, my 16 month old son is constantly trying to say "No Deal"

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 18/12/2008 09:50

Ha ha LBB!

dinkystinkyclaus · 18/12/2008 09:55

LBB - what you're feeling is perfectly normal. It is normal to feel anxiety/worry/dread (whatever you want to call it) about a new arrival upsetting what you're used to - and it will be fine once you've all adjusted to the new arrival. You're having a really miserable time of it at the moment with the SPD and UTI and sleep deprivation making everything harder - it will get easier (in fact having another baby around without the SPD and UTI will probably be a doddle by comparison), so dont waste time and energy feeling guilty. Go on out there, do what you can do at the shops with DS (FWIW my DS loves my exercise ball - he thinks is the best toy ever so am sure your DS will love yours if you manage to pick one up from Argos) and just focus on the fact that we're really not all that far away from the long awaited end now.

littleboyblue · 18/12/2008 10:04

Thanx again Dinky. What would I do without you lot, hey?
Hoping my mum will come over for a few hours before we go to her at xmas.

have to stop feeling sorry for myself now and just crack on with it. And you're right, not long to go........8 weeks'll fly by

KT1983 · 18/12/2008 10:09

Morning,

Thanks for all your positive comments about my worries yesterday. Im feeling a little bit better today, as I have spoken to lots of people who said 5.5lbs is not THAT small.

I will obviously need to go out and buy more baby clothes now...perhaps a little smaller
Im obsessed already with little girls outfits - Sooo much to choose from.

Question for all...
Do you plan too/or did you bring your baby home in a 'special' outfit?
If so, what was/is it?

littleboyblue · 18/12/2008 10:17

Morning KT, glad you're feeling better about it all today.
I had a special coming home outfit for ds, it was from toys r us' 'I love My Bear' range and so cute!! It was just vest, sleepsuit and matching hat. He didn't come home in it though, didn't see the point in changing an outfit that was still clean, didn't think we'd have much of that! I don't have a coming home outfit for this one, I have packed some vests, some babygrows, some hats, scratch mts and a coat and he'll come home in whatever he's wearing at the time!

I love looking at girls clothes, so cute!!

MrsChristmasY · 18/12/2008 10:22

lbb - it really will - with Chrimbo and New Year, and then getting sorted after Chrimbo it'll be Feb before you know it!

snowy I can totally sympathise I was up all last night with these pains, didn't get to sleep 'till about 5 this morning... However, I had my last day at work yesterday, so I'm off until first week of Jan - bliss!

We're seeing my midwife today - test results all came back negative for infections so no-one at DAU could explain whats going on. Hoping that they settle down soon, it's getting on for two weeks now .

dinkystinkyclaus · 18/12/2008 10:25

We didnt really have a coming home outfit for DS either KT - just whatever he was wearing at the time (took in lots of little white babygrows), a little green cardy, a hat and a snuggly white blanket to tuck over him in his carseat. Is making me feel all nostalgic remembering how absolutely tiny he looked in the car seat that first time when we left the hospital .

This time round (as will be feb and cold) am going to take a little oversuit to put DS2 in when bringing him home (DS was born in April so a lot warmer...)

KT1983 · 18/12/2008 10:26

Yeah they are very cute - I can get a bit carried away

Ive not read through the threads since yesterday...
But how you feeling today lbb?

littleboyblue · 18/12/2008 10:32

I'm ok today, been up for 4.5 hourts and not cried yet, so def improvement on last few days!

I've taken my drama queen head off for now and am gonna put the whole lot out of mind. Forget the infection, forget the pain and hope that stops me feeling it? Won't work, but today we are gonna sort thru ds's books and things, put some music on and gently do some housework.
Must get out now or ds will fall asleep in supermarket and wson't go to bed after lunch.
later. X

KT1983 · 18/12/2008 10:38

Takecare lbb - Not a solution by ANY means, but a huge mug of HotChocolate & lots of goodies from the supermarket.
Forget the housework...stick on a Christmas DVD & chill out x

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 18/12/2008 10:45

I bought a cute little winnie the pooh mint green outfit for DD to come home in....but I only packed 3 babygro's and 3 vests in my hospital bag and I got through those in the first morning..and they were all far too big (she was only a 6lb'r)...so going home outfit was a plain white babygro with a light blanket (it was June).

Hadn't thought about a cost for this LO.....mmm bugger it....that's a good idea.

Must start thinking about packing a bag.....all that is in there so far are two of my "nicer" maternity nighties that I has ironed this week with the rest of my ironing .

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 18/12/2008 10:46

coat I meant

KT1983 · 18/12/2008 10:53

I think im going to have a look at the weekend for a coming home outfit. Probably a bit soon, but if they do decide she is better out than in, it may be sooner than I think

CalicoisCrackers · 18/12/2008 11:55

I'm really looking forward to the coming home with baby bit with this one as I missed out last time. DH took baby home on his own whilst I was being wheeled into surgery

Can't even remember what he was wearing (DS not DH). My mum had bought a lovely pale blue fleecy snowsuit for the occasion but I think that got forgotten... I do remember DH bringing DS into see me a couple of days later and he was wearing a babygro back to front! Poor DH he really didn't know what he was doing (but he must have had to lie DS face down to popper it up so you think it might have occurred to him that something was not quite right!).

I'm looking forward to shopping for teeny weeny clothes in Jan.

catstarofbethlehem · 18/12/2008 12:01

Hi Ladies - just checking in and wishing everyone well. Not had the chance to lurk let alone post. Life in total chaos, topped off by dashes through the office yesterday to the loo to vom, much to the amusement of my colleagues! Don't think it's the Norovirus as feel ok today, but not pleasant.

Kitchen now working, if not completely finished, no Crimbo shopping done/cards written, nothing bought for new baby or hospital bag, aarrrgghhh!!! Still, only 11 working days left to mat leave, phew.

Better dash but just wanted to say hello!

oldkingcolewasaMOS · 18/12/2008 12:25

hi all, just managed to get onto my DS's laptop for 10 mins as mine has broken. Have had a quick catch up, can't believe how much has been going.
hope all the aches and pains are gone (or going) and that everyone is feeling better. LLB, sorry to read you've had such a shitty time with your doctors, so frustrating for you. I've got hospital and then doctors (x 2 this afternoon for myself and DD who is still ill) and know it will be hard work. Have been in bed the last few days with flu/cough/cold/every othersoddingbugaround and feel like crap still.
I think when I return permanently from Saudi I will aim to give up law and become a doctors receptionist so I can permanently be a miserable old cow and get paid for it.

MS, hope you've managed to sort things with your ex ref DD. Having been divorced myself and my eldest two DC's being ex's I know how difficult contact can be. Like everyone else says though, put DD (and YOU) first before him.

KT, don't worry about baby being small, I'm sure LO will be fine (and think how much easier delivery will be)

TBM glad you are still hanging in there, hard to believe you are still with us a week before Christmas when you've always said baby expected by beginning of December. Christmas day baby perhaps?
