MsLucy - I discovered earlier this year that man flu officially begins at the age of 2.5... Hope your boys get better soon (at least Stanley is nice and healthy!)

PinkPoinsettias · 09/12/2008 15:29

mslucy... snap, didn't realise we were the same date!

hoping baby is kind and comes a bit early though...... i'm so incredibly sick of being pregnant now i need it to be over. dp has banned me from having this baby before little christmas though as it would 'spoil christmas' if i did. cheers pet!

CalicoisCrackers · 09/12/2008 15:46

Yes - I'm fed up with being pg too, though looking forward to (hopefully) a few weeks off work in late jan early feb before DC2 arrives.

Here's a little Xmas cheer -
go and Elf Yourself elfyourself.jibjab.com/

If you haven't seen this in previous years it's fab and you can waste hours pasting in photos of your nearest and dearest and watching them dance like morons.

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 09/12/2008 16:03

LOL dinky my back wouldn't have held out! Did you also get to be GS, GA or GK in netball? I have no coordination, just because I'm tall doesn't mean I can get a ball near a net!

There is a condition called white coat (erm... that word that means high blood pressure). Often a GP surgery will have a self service BP monitor in the waiting room because it's less stressful and gives a better reading with some people. The thought of having your BP taken is enough to send some people's BP up. One of my trainers can only ever have hers taken once, if it's messed up they can't redo it because it will be through the roof.

PT, that's an awful thing to say if I go to term the baby will be born around TBD's birthday (haven't got a date yet) and he says he hopes it's not my brother shares a birthday with his daughter (an elective) and he was over the moon when they gave them the date.

turkeyandherbstuffinggarden · 09/12/2008 16:05

I've finally managed to change my name....tried the other day but failed and realised I have another e-mail address registered ?!....

We never had a nativity play or so I thought (or maybe we did and my mum never took photos )- must ask.

QK are you back yet ?

Changing the subject entirely ! DS (now 2.5 years) - has been asking me to wear "big boy pants" since yesterday morning - they said he kept asking at nursery all day yesterday and started again today . I've been putting off the old potty training malarkey particularly because I could only deal with one thing at a time at the moment (the early 5am waking was enough last month) but fear I may now have to sieze the moment and take my baby to the shops to choose some big boy pants......I have no idea what to do but am prepared for 20 million changes of clothing a day. Maybe we can crack it before xmas?! (although he poos about 4x a day - it's gonna be fun isn't it !).....

turkeyandherbstuffinggarden · 09/12/2008 16:07

ps calico - we did the elfyourself last year and it's hilarious - DH and I were p*ing ourselves particularly with DS 18 month old little cute head super imposed on a dancing elf...

CalicoisCrackers · 09/12/2008 16:13

ooh like the name herb

  • ah potty training, well at least I don't have to worry about that just yet as DS is only 20 months, but I think I'll plan it for the summer months as I suspect it involves a lot of washing...

Elf Yourself is has a great disco version this year. I know what I'm going to be doing all evening....how sad am I?

PinkPoinsettias · 09/12/2008 16:18

TBM... he was joking! although he's got a point all the same.... the hospital is an hour away so if the baby was early i'd have to pretty much stay there 24/7 to get feeding established and the kids wouldn't see me for most of christams so it would be pretty miserable for all concerned.

don't know what birthday's have to do with it? dp's is in august, he ds and my dad are all leos.

PinkPoinsettias · 09/12/2008 16:23

ds wants to potty train as he could start playschool if he learned.... unfortunately he hasn't a clue, he sits on the toliet looking perplexed and saying 'it's not coming out mommy!' or else insists he's done a poo or pee when he hasn't

not going to get worked up about it though... dd is almost 4 and barely keeps her knickers dry so i'm in no rush to enter the world of wet pants and constantly hunting public loos with ds as well!

littleboyblue · 09/12/2008 16:29

Hello all. I'm well pssed off. Decided I'd get the bus to doctors as walking is really uncomfortable a d I'd been a bit silly with the ammount of cleaning I did, so got myself to bus stop. No one gave me a seat, so stood waiting for bus, one came along and already had 3 pushchairs on so couldn't get on, no more busses due for another 20 mins. Called drs to say I was running late and they said I'd only get 1 appointment (made 1 for me and 1 for ds's cough). Ok, fine I thought, at least I'd get one of us seen (although sods law, his cough seems to have cleared up) another bus comes and is too busy so the driver wouldn't let anyone on. Now I'm not making either appointment, called the surgery again and they say they have 1 appointment on friday (that I can't do anyway) so I told her to fing forget it.
I'm so annoyed I've just had 2 cigerettes too. That did make me feel a bit better though.

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 09/12/2008 16:29

TBD thinks that having a baby on his birthday will ruin his birthday, he spent the first one after Tink was born in hospital because she had bronchiolitis and he said it will be the same I think the difference between my brother being over the moon and TBD thinking it's the end of the world is funny. However we've been resigned to the fact that we probably will be seeing the NNU at Christmas since the start.

If you make it to Christmas it shouldn't be too difficult as baby will have a suckling reflex, I don't think (don't quote me) they'd even be putting an NG in at that stage. If I can squeeze a few more days out of my pregnancy we'll have passed the breastfeeding milestones.

I have awful visions of these contractions going on now for another 5 () weeks then my elective coming round anyway and I'll have had them for 12 weeks.

littleboyblue · 09/12/2008 16:36

And do you know what makes it worse, is that I actually raised my voice to the receptionist and said the f-word. There was no need for that, it's not her fault.....

Do you really think you'll go another 5 wks TBM, that'd be mad!

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 09/12/2008 16:38

Tink's been telling us her nappy needed changing from about 14 months (proud baby handing over the wet nappy she took off or moving somewhere else, wouldn't ever sit on someones lap and do something). I waited because I thought it was too early and started earlier this year about 21 months with real nappy pull ups and a potty. She'll ask most of the time now, especially if someone else is going, but we still can't trust her in pants, even the real pull ups she expects to act like nappies and wets herself. Leave her bottomless and she will ask every time.

With her staying with my parents and having a baby on the way they've decided it's probably not the best time to be actively potty training her, so we're just going with what she wants.

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 09/12/2008 16:41

I don't think I will, but the idea of contractions for 13 weeks (just redid my maths) is very scary!

littleboyblue · 09/12/2008 16:43

That is a long time...........
At least you've beat your 'target' now, so every day now is a bonus, hey?

PinkPoinsettias · 09/12/2008 16:51

ahh, sorry... totally misunderstood you post TBM

it's sad that he sees it that way, if you get that far the baby will be full term and it will be an incredible day for him, the best birthday present he could have.

ds was born the day after my dad's birthday and my dad rang on his birthday to ask why i hadn't popped him out that day as a birthday present to him he loves (almost) sharing a birthday with ds.

this baby could very well share a birthday with dd and she's over the moon that she might have a new baby for her birthday

poor TBD probably can't imagine a normal healthy birth after what you two have been through but if the baby did stay put til his birthday (fingers crossed) it would be a totally differnat experiance to what you've gone through before, even with a c-section it would be alot calmer and he'd be able to hold his baby right away.

MrsChristmasY · 09/12/2008 16:54

Loving the chrible names - MOS yours made me proper laugh out loud and everyone in the office looked round at me !

herby - buy some cool ones, but best advise I can give from my many years doing this at nursery (parents always seem to increase the time a child spends at nursery when they are potty training) is buy lots of cheap ones you don't mind throwing away. Wash the wet ones, bin the other sort. It's a hell of a lot easier, and in my experience boys tend to take a bit longer than girls to grasp it...but at 2.5 he may be old enough. We'd incourage parents to think about it at about 2. Good luck!

dinkystinkyclaus · 09/12/2008 16:59

LBB - sorry you had such a disaster in trying to get to the doctors: public transport can be an absolute nightmare at times!

Herb - that's how DS started with wanting to do his potty training (at around 2.5 months). Got v upset at poos in nappy and would tell us when doing a wee or poo and became obsessed with big boy pants and flushing loos. Went out and bought some books for him about using the potty (and he used the potty 4 times - several times straining and claiming he'd weed or pooed but done nothing - before deciding he didnt like the potty anymore and wanted to use the loo). Now we've got loo seats for him and he very occasionally tells us he wants to do a wee or poo so we'll take him to the loo and reward him with a star on the star chart everytime he does something in there. He's still in pull up nappies but we've got training pants to try him in after xmas - if it doesnt work out then he'll go back into the pull ups till he's ready methinks...

PinkPoinsettias · 09/12/2008 17:02

dinky, ds sat on the potty once and decided he was 'scared' of it and will only sit on the loo now

dinkystinkyclaus · 09/12/2008 17:24

Probably the little boys are rebelling against the potties because they cant leave the loo seat up on a potty

TBM - yep, was always GK or GA in netball... well up until the age of 13 when everyone caught up and overtook me on the height front..

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 09/12/2008 17:29

Afternoon all.

Well I shall start my post by sharing with you all that a bit of 'how's your father' landed me in hospital for 5 hrs today.

Yes, another dreaded bleed, and all because I felt sorry for DH. That'll teach me!

Anyway, hospital were very lovely and thorough and I had bloods taken, examinations, traces on baby, bp checked, lots of tea and biscuits and magazines and some more anti-d.

Spent all of my time on delivery suite and it seems it's not the scary place I had originally thought, but actually quite a lovely placed staffed by warm, kind people who love their jobs (or give that impression anyway). There were several babies born whilst I was there and I only heard a little bit of grunting.

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 09/12/2008 17:38

Yup LBB after the last 8 weeks I don't know how we've gotten this far but at least I'm at a good stage if it should all come to an end.

PT you're right, if I can make it as far as the elective then it should be cause for celebration, it's a shame he can't see it like that. Better to be in hospital having a healthy term baby on his birthday than a month over Christmas with a premature baby (not that I am saying anything against babies who aren't perfect or saying that premature babies aren't because Tink is perfect no matter what battle scars she has).

Dinky, wish I could say the same - although I got a Saturday job as a teenager in Long Tall Sally and was the shorty!

Ooh, MS you must be more careful, glad you're back home now though.

BTW MOS and rosie, being on ACT can cause you to bleed after (as MS said) "how's your father". Took me till the third bleed to realise what it was with Tink and not go rushing to hospital in case I was miscarrying. At one point someone asked me if I'd had any bleeding, I said "Yes, about six times" TBD was and asked why I hadn't told him, I said that as soon as I realised what it was I didn't think it was something I needed to worry about so didn't mention it. It's not been so bad this time.

oldkingcolewasaMOS · 09/12/2008 17:59

LBB, you poor thing, what an awful day you've had. Thats probably what I'm loving most (apart from the bacon) about being back here, being able to jump (well waddle!) into my car and go where I want and not have to rely on drivers/buses like in Saudi. So sorry you've had a bad day. Do your surgery not have emergency appointments? If you and little one not well you need to be seen.

MS, how scary (and embarrassing) glad all ok though.

TBM, thanks for that info ref 'hows your father'. Bearing in mind DH is coming home early (hurrah, thursday am!) that might actually be back on the cards and good to be forewarned rather than have a blind panic if it happens.

I'm also loving some of the new christmas names which are making me chuckle. I suddenly thought of mine at around 3am but took me til late pm to work out how to change it!

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 09/12/2008 18:14

I love your name MOS, took me awhile to read it properly

Reading about MS's day just reminded me of how many times I'd bled in pregnancy before and thought you may appreciate the warning. Remember to always get checked if you're worried though.

Rachrox · 09/12/2008 18:59

Hi Ladies,
I'm very jealous of those who are still active in the bedroom! My dh hasn't been near me since i was 8 weeks pregnant, and i'm now 30 weeks!!! Although to be fair he has good reasons as it always starts my labours off, and we really don't want a premature baby this time.
TBM Well done for hanging on in there, fingers crossed for another couple of weeks.
So is everyone sorted for christmas yet? I really need to get myself organised... hmm maybe next week????
Hope you are all keeping well,
Take care. xxx
