Hello lovely ladies, the new thread is open for business

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TinselBaublesMistletoe · 09/12/2008 19:04

Rachrox, are you on the FB group? There's a thread on there for those of us trying not to have a premature baby.

We've got most of our children's presents, need to sort out our own children and finish off the calendars for the adults.

TBD has just said he wants cooking related presents for Christmas as he plans to start cooking more. He does most of the cooking anyway as I can't stand long enough, but he wants to do more proper cooking. I said I can't really buy him cooking presents because it's not really a present from me then, but he said I can because it's what he really wants. He said he'd like books and a nice spice rack.

pinkspottywellies · 09/12/2008 19:53

Ow!

I was innocently talking nappies on another thread and got yanked in here by your very own swampster!!

I was having a hormone fuelled rant at my NCT yahoo group! Someone quoted the research about real nappies being as bad, if not worse, for the environment as sposies. Grrrr.

How are you all? Blooming I trust?! Not long til Mat Leave for some people I guess?

Tink I see you're still hanging on! Is this longer than Tink now?

chilledmama · 09/12/2008 20:04

I wrote an email to the new environment minister (some time ago now) expressing my disappointment in his office for quoting a paper which had been proven to based on faulty assumptions.
Funny old thing...the reply wasn't much cop and certainly didn't agree that they should re-do the research using data from people who actually use real nappies as I had suggested in my email.[fanngry] [disappointed emoticon]

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 09/12/2008 20:27

My NCT antenatal teacher said that real nappies weren't as good for the environment as we've always believed - carbon footprint. But surely as they're not filling up landfills and if they do they will biodegrade is a major plus? My nappies (new for Tink) are about to be used by the third baby. So lets 1/3 the carbon footprint on them straight away. If I pass them on again it will lower again.

Depending on who's dates you look at I passed Tink's "birthday" either on Thursday last week or yesterday so really into one day at a time territory. But I'm happy, I'm into known territory so I feel safe now.

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 09/12/2008 20:27

Gotcha psw!

lardybump · 09/12/2008 20:42

Evening all. Hope you are well. Rachrox I am with you re the bedroom. My dp has not been near me since about 10 weeks. He says it doesn't feel right as there is a baby in there but I think he is turned off by my copius amounts of fat......

Tink it is amazing the sticking power of your little one...... You never know she/he may not want to come out until it is 2009......

chilledmama · 09/12/2008 20:54

OK household update...
My parents came on Wed afternoon and started helping me pack up loads of stuff.
Friday evening DH got back and started to help too. Sat/Sun/Mon all spent packing boxes and sending to storage and taking loads to tip.
We're almost ready to move DS to his new room now and the plan will be to put him in the double bed and put the baby in the cot for day time sleeps and in bedside crib (if I ever get one) with me for night time...what do you think???

pinkspottywellies · 09/12/2008 20:55

The thing is everyone quotes a study that said washables are as bad but that was new nappies, washed at 90, tumble dried and ironed (who does that ). There is a new study that took into account full loads, A rated appliances, lower temps, line drying etc. If you search under my name on here someone linked me to the report yesterday which I then shared with my NCT group.

littleboyblue · 09/12/2008 21:16

Hello you chatty bunch.......
MS poor you having to go into hospital, hope your dp is pleased with himself It's apparently quite normal to have a bleed after sex in late pregnancy.....

Those of you whose dp's haven't been near you in the sex dept for a while, I have to say I'm quite jealous! I really really really don't mind the thought of never doing it again and I've always had quite a high drive. I get a baby foot in my ribs no matter what position and the bump gets very tight and sore, hate positions where I have to do the work because I am too selfish as I get too breathless as lungs are being crushed.
I do feel guilty but 15 or so weeks (taking into account recovery time) surely isn't too much to ask of him.....

Ds is at a stage where he tries to take his nappy off if he isn't dressed but he's not talking yet so don't know what that's about...

I think I'll give the doctors a call again tomoz when I'm a bit calmer and make another appointment, it's just a pain when you need 2 and they space them an hour or so apart, but we know what'll happen, they'll say ds is fine and I have protein in urine so take another course of anti-b's and I don't think I can be arsed, have so had enough of this, roll on february already!!!
On a positive note, I napped on sofa so got out of giving ds his bath, and he hasn't napped at all today so fell straight asleep

littleboyblue · 09/12/2008 21:19

chilled That sounds like a good plan.
I had different places for ds to sleep in day and night in the early stages to try to install the difference between long sleeps and short sleeps.

PinkPoinsettias · 09/12/2008 21:25

ow ow ow ow ow

stupid back ache and stupid arse ache.... i didn't even do anything to bring it on this time

LBB... don't feel bad, you were stressed and being unfairly treated by public transport and receptionists and you're heavily pregnant with a bad back and a toddler and buggy to wrestle with. i'm not surpirised you snapped at someone!

it's so ridiculous the way ye have to wait for appointments for doctors over there..... shocking to think it's even legal

gp's here tend to have walk in surgery in the morning and appointments in the afternoon that you never need more than a few hours prior notice for, last time i went for an ante natal check up i went to the walk in clinic and there was only one doc on duty so there was a huge wait.... they bumped me up the queue because i had ds with me and they felt so bad about me having to wait ages with a toddler in tow. then they gave him about 200 stickers to keep him happy while i had my check up

we complain about our healthcare here but i have to say alot of what i read on here baout the NHS is truely appalling

dinkystinkyclaus · 09/12/2008 21:25

Markstretch - sorry to hear about your bleed. Though good to know that you're left feeling very positive about the maternity unit after your visit.

littleboyblue · 09/12/2008 21:34

Hey PP Thank you Their normally quite good with appointments but I'm sure now if you call for an appointment, you have to be seen within 24 hours, so to offer me a slot on friday.....?
Nevermind, I don't have any concerns re pregnancy at the moment, apart from the severe discomfort, I'm sure it wasn't like this with ds but then I was working and didn't have him to look after.
His cough is a lot better so not overly worried about that so may just leave it. Although I'll prob get told off by mw for missing a check that she told me to have, but I'll just cry or something

Can't imagine ever being bumped up a queue for having a toddler or being reg in this country, no one seems to have any consideration for anyone else these days. It's really quite sad isn't it?

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 09/12/2008 21:39

PT, it depends where you go TBH&F. My surgery you book in the morning and they'll take bookings for the next day when they get full. My parents surgery you have to queue up in the morning and get given an appointment, when they run out of GP appointments they give them out for the practice nurse. My old surgery you turn up at the start of surgery (ie in the morning or afternoon) and get given a number, when all the numbers are gone they stop giving them out and make appointments.

littleboyblue · 09/12/2008 22:05

My last surgery was walk in 9:30am til 10:30am and then appointments 4:30pm - 7pm, apart from sat, sun and weds when they were closed.

chilledmama · 09/12/2008 22:24

Quick question...was I out of line??

Bedside crib came on ebay at quite high price £150 and buy now of £175. BN from normal website is £225. Because it had been listed so high, no-one bid. As soon as item finished, it was re-listed at exactly the same price & conditions.
Funny old thing no movement again...anyway...I emailed the seller a few days ago and asked if they were interested in selling crib without additional accessories (listed with crib set). They got back to me last night (listing finished today) and said they would sell seperatley but still wanted £140 for the crib alone.
Having watched these closely on ebay recently I know that none of them have gone for that much...and I said as much in my reply and offered £130 which is still the very top end of what they have gone for...refrained from saying I thought they were greedy which is why noone bib on their item twice.
Have I over stepped the ebay line????

SwampsterQuakesAtTheSight · 09/12/2008 22:45

I think contacting sellers directly is a great way of getting a bargain but you've got no protection if they don't deliver so it is pretty damn risky.

I got four of my favourite nappies at a very reasonable price by contacting the seller and warning her that they were likely to get pulled as ebay don't do second hand nappies any more (they equate them with used undies ) and asked if she would consider a private sale if that happened... Also told her about the various sites where she could sell her stuff if she preferred to do it that way (she had quite a few nappies for sale).

I did shit myself until they arrived though and that was only for a few quid, not over 100!

Yoohoo pinkspottynappies, come baaaaaaaaaack!

laidbackinengland · 09/12/2008 22:46

Chilledmama - they will take it if they want to sell it....

MS - glad your bleed is not serious.

I have 3 more working days at work and am delerious.

dinkystinkyclaus · 10/12/2008 08:42

Is that delirious with joy Laidback or with lurgy? Hope you're feeling better now. I suspect am now coming down with the lurgy as feeling fed up (am normally quite chipper), hugely irritable and achy all over (including my toenails - how is that possible???) - though those may just be normal hugely pregnant lady symptoms

Chilled - dont think you overstepped the mark at all. You've said what you're happy to pay for it, given you've been following what the bedside cribs are going for on EBAY for a while now, and refrained from saying they're greedy. If you get it great - if you dont, at least you tried.

KT1983 · 10/12/2008 09:14

Morning all,
Very talkative on here

Still going strong Tink?

Ive been decorating the gym this morning with extremely tacky Christmas Decorations - but Im feeling very festive now

Has anyone else become allergic to anything since being pregnant?
one of my fav treats is Pick 'n' Mix - and I have previously been able to eat it with no problem...
But the last few times ive had it, i start itching all over (within about 15mins) - I think ive become allergic to certain E-Numbers. As it also happened when I had some Chocolate buttons a few days ago.

If I am....This is a disaster as I am a CHOCOHOLIC!!!

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 10/12/2008 09:19

QK QK QK QK QK

I just counted the days and it's 12 more working days for me until Mat leave!

Woo woo!

KT1983 · 10/12/2008 09:24

MS - that made me chuckle to myself - had this vision of Tina Turner strutting her stuff

8 Days left for me!! WOO

MarkTheHeraldAngelsStretch · 10/12/2008 09:27

8 days woo!

Think how quickly our thread will fill up when we're all on maternity leave!

Although, I will have to give back my beloved laptop and wireless broadband as provided by work, and retire to the freezing back bedroom to sit amongst the cardboard boxes to talk to you all.

Boo!

littleboyblue · 10/12/2008 09:36

Morning all. Glad the mat leave is approaching fast for some of you. I remember that feeling, people started to say stuff like, "At least you get a little holiday" WTF????
I'm sitting here in my bath towel waiting for the motivation to get dressed so can do some shopping.
I have decided to re-organise ds's bedroom today, don't know why. I'll prob change my mind in a bit though!
Feel like my bladder is going to explode. Is it possible that a little baby hand might shoot out at any moment? No, I don't think so either but that's what it feel like!!

catstarofbethlehem · 10/12/2008 09:37

only 15 more days here left at work!! would join you with wild dancing but tucked up in bed. Nothing exciting, just a really bad sinus infection that's taking ages to shift. The antibiotics have made me feel sick but at last seem to be shifting the pain. Been feeling v sorry for myself but the good news is that the kitchen should be finished on time at the end of the week .

Sorry to read about the terrible news herbgarden.

TBM - fantastic to still have you hear antenatally!!

Dinky - really hope you are not coming down with the lurgy - it's really knocked me for six this time. I'm not used to being ill!

Haven't managed to catch up with everything yet you chatty lot but have moved the computer into the bedroom so I must be feeling a bit better!!!

Right, better check work emails now ....
