Zoe - I got measured today for a nursing bra - have gone from 32C to 34 E/F! And that's before milk comes in!!! Only got one cheap one because I think I'll go back for more once my milk's in to see what size I am then! Shame they rest so unattractively on my bump!

Veggiemummy · 05/12/2008 15:22

trace- LOL at you cooling yourself down too much. we have a loads of green & blacks coco cause i thought at the beginning of the pregnancy that i would want it, but haven't used much should really try to make some hot chocolate. I think i am drinking too much tea.

we are finally taking the cat to the vet. we started feeling like bad cat owners because we were being scummy about paying a vet when we treat ourselves and DS to all sorts of nice things. hopefully we haven't left him permanently damaged by leaving it a few days.

traceface · 05/12/2008 15:24

hope dc (darling cat!) is ok... keep us posted

Veggiemummy · 05/12/2008 15:26

i used to have fried eggs for boobs and they didnt grow much last pregnancy until my milk came in then waaahoooo they were ginormous. but this time they look like the ones those tribes women have in national geographic.

cat lol at the thought of losing stuff in there! Maybe that's where my watch has gone... (in mine - not yours - that would be very odd!)

hattyyellow · 05/12/2008 15:36

Good luck pd!!! Can't wait to hear all about it!

Congratulations katy! Trace that's great that they'll let you go overdue - although I can see why its doing your head in to have to wait that long!

I had a great appointment with my consultant this morning re my VBAC. There seems to be so much cautiousness amongst hospitals with their patient care for VBACers and my research had led me to think things would be very restricted.

He said they will let me go up to 14 days overdue! Agghhh that's January - I just can't wait that long! And that they do prefer continous monitoring but have long leads on their machines so I will be able to walk around and choose whatever position I am comfy in. No to water births, which I was expecting, but I can go in the in-between section where I can use birthing balls, dimmed lights etc. He sent me into hysterics when he said "yes we have 3 delivery rooms, ranging from very clinical to water birth and the one in between has err frilly curtains, that sort of thing" , -what the??

Never realised frilly curtains were an essential part of labour!

Now feeling that this baby is never ever going to come out. Come on baby!

Thanks all for thoughts re labour/period pains that's very helpful. They do seem to have calmed down a lot, I'm now 4/5ths engaged but consultant didn't seem to think things would happen anytime soon.

zoejeanne · 05/12/2008 15:36

cat at your cake rations in your bra, I am laughing so much I'm crying now. I also collect lots of crumbs in and on my clothes at the moment (but try very hard to find them again so they're not wasted)

The BF centre is just a one off place - called Honey Suckle. I guess there will be similar places dotted all over, as well as the national BF support.

poisondwarf · 05/12/2008 15:55

Hello,

DP is up in the loft getting all the stuff we should have got down weeks ago so thought I'd try a crafty post (should be finishing off the hospital bag but am still finding other things to do). Thanks for all your well wishes.

I was kind of hoping to be writhing around in agony by now (well not really but you know what I mean) but there hasn't been much in the way of progress since this morning really. Contractions still very mild but getting stronger and longer, and still not that regular, although the overall pattern is getting closer together most of the time.

Have phoned the hospital and they are fine with me waiting till the morning to call again if things haven't progressed by then, so plenty of time for things to get going without the prospect of augmentation hanging over me.

Have been meaning to read all about different birthing positions but have not got round to it - if anyone has a link which is quick and simple to read (preferably with pics) then I'd be grateful.

Soz for not replying to all but on the incredible inflating bosom front I think I might win the prize - 34C pre-preg (not this pregnancy though cos I was still breastfeeding) to 34H now. And that's before the milk comes in!

Well, at this rate I'll be back on later to give you an update, but if not will text with news.

Hi all, have been trying to upload a pic of Lily on my profile page, but can't do it for some reason, will get DH to have a go later.

Things going well so far, the midwife has been and is very happy with how everything is going, the way I'm feeding etc. The first night at home wasn't too bad either, so am feeling pretty positive. Although I bet tomorrow will be the opposite as a result!

My birth story is not terribly interesting due to the CS, but here goes anyway...

Arrived at hospital at 7.30 am on Wednesday having dropped DS off at my parents for the day. Both DH and I a bit anxious and snappy with one another, but not really surprising.
The midwives showed me to my bed but didn't start processing me until about 9am. Then it was all go, taking bloods, visit from anaesthetist and surgeon etc. Turns out I was the only one booked in for a CS on Wednesday so they were keen to get me out of the way and go home!
After I changed into hospital gown they took me across to the delivery theatre for Spinal block and epidural. Apparently spinal block is the standard, but they also set up epidural for further pain relief in case the operation takes longer than an hour. DH was gowned up by this stage and they asked me to lean over the bed onto him so they could insert the needles into my spine. The spinal block was fine and went in ok, then they tried to put in the epidural. For some reason they couldn't get the positioning right and it kept sending horrible shooting pains down my right leg which had me screaming in pain. DH was looking increasingly pale and sweaty at this point which reminded me to warn the medical staff that he isn't great with needles, at which point he said 'actually I think I might be about to faint'. Only I heard this as the staff were busy concentrating on me, and as I tried to warn the person closest to him - the midwife - he hit the decks! It was a real comedy moment as I tried to hold onto him, the midwife suddenly realised what had happened and started shouting and slapping him and general chaos ensued with me being totally ignored! After DH came round they decided to abandon getting the epidural into me, and sent him off for some obs as he had banged his head quite badly. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but then got into a panic thinking that he wouldn't be able to come into theatre with me and that I would be on my own. Anyway, he recovered sufficiently to come in with me and even watched quite a bit of the operation and cut the cord in the end. The operation was 'textbook', took about 10 mins to get her out and half an hour to stitch me back up again. They kept me guessing for a bit about sex and weight but I knew she was big from some of the comments.
Was then taken off for observation and 'skin onskin' time then put back on the maternity ward to recover. I was in and out in 36 hours in total.

Well done if you've read this far...

I'm presuming that I can't enter the sweepstake for shortest labour as well, can I?

So, apart from the fainiting it was all pretty standard. However, for anyone having a spinal block, just to warn you that you can still feel quite alot. All it does is remove the pain sensation, but you can still feel them touching you and it is more like a violent game of rugby going on inside you than the washing up! I did find it really quite uncomfortable.

Recovery is going well and scar is not nearly as painful as I was expecting.

traceface · 05/12/2008 16:26

you probably all know this already but if you sign up to 'Martin Lewis Money Saving Expert' emails - just a link on his website, you get emailed loads of vouchers etc - I just did it and have got 2 for 1 vouchers for pizza express and bella italia and loads of other stuff...worth a look!

traceface · 05/12/2008 16:27

thanks for the birth story Katie - it's getting me very excited hearing about all these little ones! Glad you're doing well xxx

traceface · 05/12/2008 16:33

is boursin permitted or forbidden in pregnancy?

kayzisexpecting · 05/12/2008 16:39

Afternoon,

According to GP the dizziness is caused by BabyKayz lying on a nerve. It has to be that apparently as it is only really bad in the middle of the night and first thing in the morning.

MW has just been round. Everything is ok for the HB, except I can't have him tonight or tomorrow as they are short staffed. So I need to try and get to Scarborough or ring an ambulance. But an ambulance won't take DH with me, I think I'd rather give birth in a layby. At least I wouldn't be alone.

Both me and the MW decided Sunday would be the best day.

I really hope everyone is ok and feeling well. I hope the feeding is going a bit better Verso

rosmerta · 05/12/2008 16:46

trace I'm sure I've eaten Boursin whilst pg, I think its just soft pasteurised cheese so should be fine.

kayz here's hoping baby will hold off until Sunday. I still can't get over they're closed on different days!

I'm still battling this cough. Have bought some lemon & honey to make some tea with later, hoping that will help as can't take anything else.

traceface · 05/12/2008 16:47

when's your due date kayz?

kayzisexpecting · 05/12/2008 16:50

12th so nexy Friday, A WEEK!!!!!!! ARGHHHHHH!!!!

He will be born on the 13th though. My Dad is coming to visit from the 8th until the 12th. He has tempted fate I think.

EffiePerine · 05/12/2008 16:50

Trace: boursin is fine I think as it isn't a mould-ripened cheese

Kayz: try to hold on for a day or so!

PD: glad to hear things are progressing, if not as quickly as you;d like. Good for you staying at home for as long as possible, sounds like much the best plan. At least you don;t have to worry about DS as he's safely with the GPs. Try and get some rest and remember to eat!

I emailed DH with a list of food to buy for my hospital bag (am without cash atm as my card had to be cancelled). Ran as follows:

small bottle water
bottle Lucozade
packet wine gums
cereal bars
Cadbury's selection box

I reckon that should keep me going in between hospital food

traceface · 05/12/2008 16:52

sounds perfect effie. Mine just has an apple (which has been there for weeks so actually I should remove), a box of Cadburys Brunch bars and a multi bag of mini chedders!

Verso · 05/12/2008 16:56

boursin fine as it is pasteurised. Mw just been. Says pain not thrush and to express and cup feed for 24 hrs. Sigh. Why cant everyone agree? Good news is dd2 gained 2oz back. Bad news they still worried re jaundice - have to go to clinic on tues. If gained wt again fine but wont discharge me if not. Feel like biology experiment not person. Grr.

EffiePerine · 05/12/2008 16:58

Verso: why the expressing? Could you ring one of the helplines to clarify?

Fingers crossed on the weight gain

EffiePerine · 05/12/2008 16:58

Trace: cheddars are an excellent idea . Will add them to the list...

traceface · 05/12/2008 17:00

verso poor you. You are having a really hard time of it but are doing soooooo well. Give yourself a pat on the back - or a hug or massage or something. It's fantastic that dd2 has put weight back on already so you are obviously doing an amazing job. as long as she's gaining weight and having plenty of wet nappies and some alert times, then you are fine. Will have fingers crossed for you for Tuesday - wait and see - she'll probably pile weight on and shock them all!

kayzisexpecting · 05/12/2008 17:07

Verso, I agree with Trace. You are doing a brilliant job. I'm sure come Tuesday she will have put on some more weight and you'll be discharged.
