And I think that muddled post indicates my disordered state of mind quite nicely. Whoops! But I will leave it as is. Bisou, enjoy the beach . Hot hols have been much on my mind the last few days.

EffiePerine · 05/12/2008 13:21

BISOU [SHOCK]

Just how are you supposed to get into that position when in labour? I'd fall off!

jumpjockey · 05/12/2008 13:37

oh no. I have totally lost my pelvic floor. Was having a wee and tried to stop the flow and nothing happened at all. Is this normal? will it come back? it seemed to be working ok when i was pg but is now gawwwwnnnn!!!! am sat here with engorged boobs, savoy cabbage in my bra probably smelling like an old lady motherhood, it's great!

and look down at my beautiful little girlk snd yes, it really is

katie congrats on your gorgeous new girl! what a fantastic weight.

and congrats donny - i thought my labour was quick but blimey!!

rosmerta · 05/12/2008 13:40

jj give it a couple of weeks & then start the pelvic floor exercises again, you can get it back! Plus, hot flannels are also good for engorgement.

jumpjockey · 05/12/2008 14:03

the cabbage leaves have actually worked surprisingly well. we're about to have our first outing in th car so if she wants a feed in town MUST remember to remove leaves first

JamInMyWellies · 05/12/2008 14:13

JJ remove the cabbage leaves after about 20mins or so otherwise they start to get a bit limp and smelly.

Bisou seriously how on earth are you meant to get into that position I have just wedged myself on the bath to attempt to shave my legs it was not pretty. So anything like that would be impossible.

LadyT dont you know greggs sausage rolls are the devils food on mumsnet. Hope the scar feels better soon.

Turniphead1 · 05/12/2008 14:40

Bisou that's a really interesting link. That's the position you are supposed to adopt doing perineal massage from behind. I might give it a go. Never felt my own cervix !

How exciting about PD can't wait to hear the news from her!

Gosh I forget who was asking about induction - but can I just second what Jam was saying. Anything from 37 to 42 is NORMAL full term pregnancy. I think too Veggie posted some stuff about how the "40 week" rule has been shown to be flawed totally and basically 41 weeks is correct. The placenta doesn't suddenly stop functioning at 42 weeks! Also 95% of people have their babies before 40 + 10 days (the exact gestataion I had DC2). Those 10 days were not exactly comfortable - but in the bigger scheme of things totally doable. Give me that over being induced any day of the week! (Obviously induction having it's place for medical reasons and not always being a nightmare, a lot depending on the Bishops Score as Jam said...)

traceface · 05/12/2008 14:46

good afternoon...

well I saw the registrar this morning - they didn't do the sweep after all! And having been told over and over that they won't let me go past my due date, the guy today said that if I stay so well then they will let me go 10 days overdue! I know it's fab that I am really well (BP and bloods behaving very nicely) but I feel a bit disappointed too, because in my head I was going to have my baby no later than next Sat, and now it could be as late as Christmas Eve Eve. I shouldn't be disappointed though - I should just be really pleased that I'm so well and haven't had a repeat of my last pregnancy. I am pleased really - just have to adjust my time scale again! Am consoling myself with an entire tray of ice cubes!

PD - very exciting - hope things keep going in the right direction!

Bisou - thanks for the website link - not sure I'll try it though - am tempted but am worried that even if I manage to get into that position I might break my waters or break the baby by accident or something...!

Trace: it is good that they aren't pressuring you into an induction, obviously if you want to be induced after 40 weeks I assume they may well agree, but then things might get moving of their own accord before then! It is nice to be told that you're healthy and doing well, esp when you feel like a severly discommoded sperm whale (at least I do ). I take it there are no more probs with your BP?

No news from PD yet . I'm taking heart from the fact that when I saw her on Wednesday she looked cheerful and healthy with no intimations that labour might be imminent .

37 weeks for me next week, limping along at the end of the list! Am starting to think 'what if the baby IS early', having geared myself up to delivering over the holidays. Of course he may decide to stay right where he is, though he is 2/5 engaged according to my notes.

Veggiemummy · 05/12/2008 14:59

hi all finally up to date.

great to hear PD is on her way.

Lady T lovely to hear from you, missed you, it is nice that everyone is having their babies, but i miss the contact with you all. but it os good to be busy with bubies.

all you who are walking are admired. my little wander out with DS & DH last night left me with shin splints and knee and hip pain last night. what has become of me i have done a marathon and several triathlons and al the training involved and now a short walk leaves me in pain.

but can't complain to much as my MW came today and gave me a lovely aromatherapy foot massage, really hit the spot, and left the oils she mixed so DH can give me a massage later too.

DH is now out having his torture session, he has a really tight ITB and has to have a sports massage session each week to try to stretch it, poor thing it is quite painful. He is also picing up our tree on the way back hooray. DS & I made some decorations this morning which was nice. He and i have just had homemade chips, veggie dippers and veggie sausages and fishfingers (DS) for lunch. All whilst watching a christmas DVD. much fun and relaxation for us.

EffiePerine · 05/12/2008 15:00

JJ: my pelvic floor was decidedly dodgy post-birth, not surprising with all the swelling and discomfort (did you have stitches?). As Ros says, start up the exercises in a few weeks. Good idea to raise the issue with your GP at your 6 week check if it's still a problem. I had a smear at the same time as the check as I was due one and the GP was most uncomplimentary about the state of my pelvic floor, but it seemed to recover pretty well afterwards .

theyoungvisiter · 05/12/2008 15:00

Ok browser gone very weird and will only let me do short posts so I am going to have to do several short replies instead of one long one... perhaps it's DH's cunning plan to prevent me from mumsnetting too much!

traceface · 05/12/2008 15:02

Veggie can I come to your house?! It sounds fun and homely and warm and tasty...!

traceface · 05/12/2008 15:03

oooh and only 1 more sleep till we get our tree (I sound like my DD!)

Veggiemummy · 05/12/2008 15:05

WG- i have lost all pelvic floor ability, even the smallest cough makes me do a wee. Oh well i know i can get it back with a little work after baby comes, but getting a bit sick of having to change my undies and trouser all the time (TMI sorry).

Cat- so funny you ate the advent calender choclates. don't feel so bad about eating DS' chocolate buttons.

Bisou-very jealous we spend most of our time when we are visiting sydney in the freshwater curl curl area as that is where a lot of our friends live. When we eventually come home i think we will settle around about there somewhere. I have found a montessori school for the DS' in Forrestville.

theyoungvisiter · 05/12/2008 15:05

DS2 was 7lb 2 - still confirming name! We obviously used up all our inspiration on number 1...

theyoungvisiter · 05/12/2008 15:06

I doubt it'll be the shortest labour, but according to my antenatal notes labour was 3hr 40 for first stage and 30 mins for 2nd stage, so 4hr 10 total. (I'm presuming we're not counting the placenta?)

zoejeanne · 05/12/2008 15:07

PD ? hope all goes well with the birth and you remember everything in your bag that you need!

I'm loving the ever growing birth announcements list ? and it?s a dead heat on the number of boys and girls so far.

Kayz ? stay on that sofa, it sounds like the best place for you ? you poor thing

Bisou ? a bit shocked about the checking my own cervix, I?m struggling with perineal massage (glad I?m not the only one WG) Trace ? that?s good news they?re happy with your health and babyTrace?s health

The breast feeding class I went to this morning was very interesting and the counsellor was lovely ? it?s a shame I?ve already forgotten most things she told me . However I haven?t forgotten to take her phone number and she does home visits and is on 24hr call (she is amazing ? it?s just her, available 24/7, and as it?s a charity I don?t even think she?s paid) so I might request a visit early after I get home from hospital, just to check everything is going ok. And will give a big fat donation to the charity because I love her already, almost as much as I love my unborn babe Oh, and I got myself a couple of nursing bras ? DD to F cup , considering I?m normally an A/B cup. DH will be a happy man ?

Veggiemummy · 05/12/2008 15:08

come over Trace- i'll get DH to bring home a load of chocolate.

Effie- cheeky bloody GP, tell him if he squeezed a large pumpkin out his butt it wouldn't look to hot either.

theyoungvisiter · 05/12/2008 15:09

jj I agree with all the others - completely normal and it WILL come back you just have to keep doing the exercises! Also I don't think you are supposed to try to stop the flow mid-stream -not sure why not but the leaflet I got given says not to.

theyoungvisiter · 05/12/2008 15:11

wg I had an induction at the Whittington with my last baby - it was fine and if you have any questions about how it works do let me know - you can cat me if you like.

Veggiemummy · 05/12/2008 15:12

Kayz- i fail to see how babykayz position can effect your balance.

ZJ- some ladies do it for the love of breastfeeding, i know some of the breastfeeding orgs & their helpers, supporters & councellors etc can be a bit militant about it but their main incentive is helping others mums & babies to have the best chance possible.

Veggiemummy · 05/12/2008 15:15

yeah i have just recently heard it is not a good idea just after birth to try stopping midflow. they say when you are doing the exercises to pretend you are stopping midflow as a way of working out which muscles to use. Something about causing urinary problems but can't remember what.

traceface · 05/12/2008 15:18

Veggie if Derby and York were a little closer I'd be on my way...especially now you've mentioned chocolate!

Just tried the cervix thing! Well either I have a very high cervic, very short fingers or I'm doing something wrong - so am non the wiser about my dilation status!!!

My ice cubes were delicious but now I'm cold so am having a hot choc!
