Here's our new thread ladies.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
corgikelly · 15/12/2008 11:03

Alas, I'm only at 26 weeks...but I guess that means I'll be ringing in the new year and the new trimester at just about the same time!

Had an OB appt today as well as my glucose test. Is there anything less pleasant than starting one's day off with 50 ml of sugar solution? Blerg...

I've gained 5 kg - yikes! Apparently that's within normal bounds for 6.5 months, but still?

I told her that I?ve been having some dizzy spells, and she checked my blood pressure, which was normal. She said as long as it isn't happening more than once a week, not to worry - if it happens more often, I might have to take some meds.

Then, the ultrasound - she started by saying that the doctor who did the last ultrasound is, unfortunately, the type of person who feels he needs to say everything. ) She clarified that what he'd seen was a dilation of one of the valves leading from the kidney to the bladder and a small cyst in the cranial cavity, and then took a look herself. She said the valve dilation was right at the upper limit of normal, and that this kind of dilation is a lot more common in boys during in utero development. She'll check it again at the next appointment, but is not particularly worried - even if it doesn't go away, she's not inclined to assume it's Down Syndrome because (a) the triple test and nuchal transparency were both good, and (b) Cletus is incredibly active (he kept flipping around as she was trying to see stuff), which is not typical of Down babies. If it persists, it will probably just be something the pediatrician needs to know about and track (because, for example, it means that it's harder to empty the bladder completely - so if Cletus is running a fever they need to know it could just as well be a bladder infection as an ear infection). As for the cyst, it's still there, but again, she said not to stress too much. She'll keep checking, and it's not an automatic sign of brain damage etc.

***

Speak of the devil - another bout of dizziness. They last about 5 minutes - complete with tunnel vision and ringing ears and numb limbs and coming out of it with sweat running down my back and belly and off my hands. Not pleasant. Hope this never happens while I'm driving. Has anyone else had this kind of thing during their pregnancies?

Right - better get to work. I took last week off and we went to Spain - it was nice to get away, even though the weather was putrid (rainy, foggy and about 7 degrees). One of the hotels we stayed at featured an open fireplace in the bedroom, and it was lovely just lying in bed, listening to music and watching the fire at night!

Hope all's well with everyone else - I'll be catching up on posts tonight.

jollyjoanne · 15/12/2008 12:31

I was also 28 weeks yesterday, which makes me feel really quite a lot pregnant now.

I have also been having BH for about a month, not that I actually knew that's what they were until I was trying to explain to it to my mum about feeling as though everything had gone very tight, and she was like oh yeah that'll be the BH but she was surprised I have been having them for quite so long, she siad hers didn't start till much later. So may be I should start with some water.

And the baby definitely likes to jump on my bladder - it can be quite strange particularly as I can just have been to the loo and then 10 minutes later I need to go again. But the DH is getting used to my - i need to go to the toilet noooowwww!

And the baby has properly start to get agressive with the kicking and punching it seems like she may be upside down some of the time now as I keep getting kicks in the ribs when i am in work. But then at night it still seems to be kicks /punches near my belly button and my girly bits. I was wide awake at 3.30am last night because she was moving and kicking and punching so much.

Anyway I think I've written a novel.

Best wishes for those who are still poorly or whose family members are.

livismum · 15/12/2008 15:56

Hey guys everything going okish here! been lurking enjoying everyone elses posts but never quite managing one myself!

DD had us up for 3 hrs last night feelin poorly and saying her ear was hurting, she woke up bouncing this morning which was very odd but has just fallen asleep for a v uncharacteristic nap so i def didnt imagine it all! anyway means i can catch up on here! and finish writing xmas cards!

bump has had growth spurt and is very high up making bending etc. nigh on impossible, but pains in legs and sciatica seem better so musn't grumble!

had 2 3 course carverys this weekend I LOVE XMAS FOOD!!!

Not going to dwell on stupid stuff too much but i reversed our car into another last week, got stuck out with other car as imobiliser decided to play up and my lil sis just got suspended from work
(we work together!) anyway will all get sorted so will not repeat will not dwell on it!

Ok going to raid choc cupboard! catch u all later xx

corgikelly · 15/12/2008 16:29

xmas cards, livismum? I am impressed!

Is anyone else in full-fledged panic mode about xmas gifts and spending way too much time online looking for stuff for people -- i.e., stuff that can be delivered before the 24th? NOT easy at this point...

And that's not counting the group of friends for whom we're hosting an early Xmas dinner this weekend before we go our separate ways for the "real" holiday - their gifts need to be sorted locally, NOW. Eeeeek.

corgikelly · 15/12/2008 16:33

Cletus the Fetus needs a real name! Polling all March '09 mamas...

I hope this link will work...if not, I am a huge loser and apologise to all and sundry.

Because my mother lives in daily fear that Cletus will "stick" post-birth, we're whittling out our short list of first names - and I would LOVE to know what people think about them! Clicking on the link below should take you to the poll I just created (fingers crossed).

www.babycenter.com/403_cletus-the-fetus-needs-a-real-name_9011809_165383080529.bc

To anyone who can take a moment to vote - thank you!

Wheelybug · 15/12/2008 17:08

Ah Livismum - I pranged our car on friday ! I didn't see a barrier and left a big dent down the side of it. I blame the pregnancy hormones.

Corgi - glad the scan made things look more positive. I have voted on your poll !

Not much else to report - have 28 week scan on friday which I'm feeling excited and nervous about and am sure I'll be a nervous wreck once in the scan room and sob through it again.

Have horrid sore throat too and feel v. rough so popping paracetemol which make me feel physically better but a bit bad for taking them (even though I know they are ok in pregnancy -you can't help but worry can you ?!) ....

Wheelybug, I know what you mean about the meds -- but if it makes you feel better, when I was in acute piles agony a couple of weeks ago, my OB said it would be absolutely fine to take up to 4 grams of paracetamol per day - that's 4000 mg, which is HUGE compared to what you're probably taking for the sore throat.

YuleWitch, can you just declare that silence equals consent and exercise divine authority in all things name-oriented? I kind of have that in effect, as DP has already named two daughters and has basically said I can have carte blanche. But I do want to get his input anyway.

laweaselmys · 15/12/2008 19:41

I love the name Cletus. Seems a bit sad to change it have voted for you.

It's not official, but I think baby girl will be Molly. Having thought of this name - neither of us seem to want to think of anything else.

I've got to host a christmas party for lots of small children tomorrow, and the tiredness seems to be really hitting me again atm - so not massively looking forward to it. Hopefully they will just enjoy it, and I won't need to put too much effort in!

corgikelly · 15/12/2008 19:55

I am fairly sure that Cletus will somehow stay around as a family nickname!

I love the name Molly because it was my beloved Welsh corgi's name. But it's also just full of sass and independence irresistible!

titmouse · 15/12/2008 22:01

I voted Corgi - you have a couple of quite close contenders there!
We've been talking about names too and the girls names seem easier to think of than boys - we think we're having a boy so maybe it's the pressure!

babyinbelly · 16/12/2008 13:09

hey all. this thread is moving so quickly these days. I think that I am having bh. Never had them with DS1 but apart from the occasional period type pain I get this tight feeling like the baby is going to do a huge movement but then everything just relaxes. Not sure if that BH or not?

Got a cold come on yesterday so feeling a bit rough today but only today and half shift tomorrow to work before xmas hols so looking forward to a couple of weeks off before mad rush in January!

Wheelybug · 16/12/2008 13:41

Thanks for that info on the paracetamol corgi. That's very interesting. I always thought they must really down play the max dosage on boxes to allow for some error but that is 10x what the box says. I am also on low dose aspirin so am not taking at hte same time as that but am going to check out that with doctors on friday.

Feeling a bit better today although its turned into a proper cold so I couldn't sleep last night but hopefully its on the mend.

Laweasel - I love the name Molly. Its in the frame for this one too if its a girl although I think DH is carrying the flag for Isla still.

Just been to dd's nativity - being pregnant, having a cold and being tired meant I was an emotional wreck. She was the donkey and very cute . Not that I'm biased.

FruitynNutty · 16/12/2008 13:49

Just popping in to say hi and that I've just uploaded my 3D scan pics which we had done on Saturday
Also, I'm so pleased you all like my real name (Molly) - I hated it when I was a child though as it was a real 'granny' name then. Very trendy now though

Welcome Lula I'm sure someone a bit more tech savvy wil put you on our list for March.

Fruity I love the 3d piccies - we are going to get ours done next week so we might have some to share as well. Quite excited about the prospect of seeing the bump again.

MKG · 16/12/2008 17:45

Hey all.

I had my 28 week appointment today. All is well, baby seems head down, which is always good. I also had my Gestational Diabetes test and am so glad that is over. I have to back next week for my anti-d shot, and then back the week after for my 30 week check. That's right, I start going every two weeks from here on in.

I'm exhausted and am about to take up cleaning my house.

dinny · 16/12/2008 18:47

hey, snap, MKG - had my 28 week appointment today too!

had bloods done again, bump measuring right for dates

she is doing glucose test for me, though, just to check as ds was quite big

laumiere · 16/12/2008 22:43

Yet another one here with the GTTR test! The bump measurements confuse me though, I was measuring 26-7 weeks when I was 27w last Tues, and today at 28w I was measuring 28-30w. The doctor seemed a little concerned and is scheduling me for a growth scan at 31w. My DS measured 27 weeks at 22w, is that why they're worried?

Slickbird · 16/12/2008 22:49

Wheely Er, has your doctor prescribed you with asprin? Only I've always been told to avoid asprin and nurofen/ibuprophen. If you've not had it on recommendation, you might want to ask your doc or MW? Sorry, not wanting to alarm you, just want to keep you safe. Maybe I'm wrong.

Welcome Lula!

I have managed to have a whole two days now with very little sinus pain and am feeling so relieved. I'm still coughing and spluttering, but I don't care as I don't have a headache and I don't have sinus pain - for now! Long may it last! Also I must be getting better as I have no sense of smell at all recently - I normally have the nose of a bloodhound! - but this morning, boy could I smell DD2's nappy! Sheesh!

Am off to bed as was up on my really crap, slow computer last night til 1.30am looking for something that, it turns out, my DH doesn't even want. I know him so well......

MKG · 16/12/2008 22:55

She measured my bump, but didn't comment, she never does. Not that it would matter to me. I mean it isn't an exact science is it. She told me I'll have another ultrasound to check for size at 38 weeks. I told her not to bother as they really over-estimated with me on the other two. Off by 1.5 pounds for ds1 and by 3 pounds for ds2. but another picture of this one is always welcome.

Hey got my first baby gift last night, a lovely man that comes to the gym where I work had got his mum to knit a lovely wee hat, mits and bootees, I nearly cried mind u emotions have been getting the better of me I blubbed all through the school nativity play, DD2 was Mary and I sobbed as soon as she walked out ! Then as I began to control myself with my mother telling me to get a grip dd1 stood up and did a reading, its the first time she's done any thing like that as she's had a speech impediment but her therapy really worked this year so that set me off again didn't help that ds (2) wiped my eyes and said "ok mummy"!
Really feeling pregnant now a lot of pressure on my bladder and think I may be getting bh but not sure as never had them before, nearly went up to the hosp on sunday as they got so painful I could barely walk but then I was sick and they eased off thought it may have been a bug but I still have the pains although not half as bad! Any one had any experience of this I feel a bit of a fraud bothering the hospital they will prob say fgs its your 4th you should know by now! !
On the size front I have hospital on the 7th jan cos baby measured small at 20 week scan then 3 weeks big at 24 week scan ! Don't think the measurements are 100 % accurate babies grow at their own rate! I will also have the pleasure of getting my anti D jab in my bum!
Hope every one is hanging in there! L xx xx

Slickbird · 17/12/2008 10:51

I agree with the whole measuring process - it isn't an exact science. My friend measured 3cm small for ages and have an 8lb 7oz baby! Hardly teeny!

I got measured the other day and was measuring 2cm smaller than my dates but the MW was very quick to point out that because the baby is lying breech at the moment that automatically measures you smaller, whereas if he turns and he's head down he'll measure larger. Makes sense to me.

lolli I think all those things you were crying at were justified even if you weren't pregnant!! Natvities get me every time, weddings, funerals, and shock, horror this morning - very unexpectedly - Halilujah by Alex on the radio! WTF??? But I think it might be to do with the fact an ex from a long long time ago used to play and sing that to me on the guitar and it's just such a beautiful song - I don't harbour any feelings for him, but maybe it triggered feelings from a time where things were a lot easier!! Or maybe I am just a pregnant hormonal wreck!!

Mandy73 · 17/12/2008 15:24

Thanks for the nice words everyone.

Flying visit - work is crazy - can't wait for some time off!

Saw MW today, all seems OK. Bump is 2 cm bigger than 'normal' but nothing to worry about she said (she put it in my notes though ).
DH was a long baby & MW said the dad's size is often reflected in baby.
Have gained 6 kg but it's all bump - can still get into my 'slim jeans' at a push .
But why would I want to?
Now where's that chocolate?

xx

Slickbird · 17/12/2008 15:31

See how everyone keeps talking about how much weight they've gained? How do you know what you've actually gained as opposed to baby, placenta and fluid. I'm curious.
