Good Morning ladies!

Chutney good luck this morning.

I woke up this morning and I have a hideous rash all over my bump and it itches sooo bad. No rash anywhere else though. Anyone else had this?

EffiePerine · 01/12/2008 11:24

Kimberley: worth talking to your mw, an itchy rash can be a sign of something I can't recall to do with the liver?

Veggiemummy · 01/12/2008 11:26

oh you guys are so busy i have been pottering around cleaning the house (and painting space helmets) and keep droppng in but the thread moves so quickly.

Effie-ultimately it's all you who has to do it but i know what you mean about wanting to know that he will argue you corner if needs be as there does come a time when we lose the ability to do anything but concentrate on stuff going on inside. My DH is opposite and believes all Doctors are out to cut his wife open (and in fact if we had of been in hospital for DS's birth they may well have done so). But he also needs to implicitly trust the MWs which is why he was always happier to go with independent MW's. I think all you can do is what you have said and talk it through with him. If you want there is stats that shows the lower complications and interventions for low risk pregnancys when care is under MW's compared to obs. If he likes to see numbers and research. But really i think just talkng it through is best, give him a chance to air his worries too. If you got another birth partner who would it be? It may make him feel undermined and you may end up with a fight on your hands.

Right time t hand the washing out then will be back with a cup of tea.

Oh Emma glad you feeing better.

Trace, i hope they sort you out, but remember this isn't a failure on your part, you are doing brilliantly and please keep us posted.

JJ- how exciting sound like something is happening, and anything more form you beans...i mean any futher watery stuff down there...in the middle bits.

poisondwarf · 01/12/2008 11:26

Kimberley - itchy rash can be a sign of obstetric cholestasis so definitely worth getting it checked out.

Veggiemummy · 01/12/2008 11:35

yeah Kimberley it is probably fine but give the MW's a call cause it can be a liver thing.

right i really have to put the washing out

kayzisexpecting · 01/12/2008 11:36

Hello,

Been into town and nearly burst into tears when I was in the shop I work in. I am so sick of being asked when BabyKayz is going to arrive. I don't bloody know!! It is really getting to me now. But I am hoping the walking as many days as I can will be doing some good.

I just want to sleep today, I might try and get a little nap before DH goes to work. We worked out that if I have the baby today, DH will have 2 weeks off work, go back for 1 week and then be off for another 2 weeks when the factory shuts.

I am very excited by all the news of things happening.

Veggiemummy · 01/12/2008 11:56

i know what you mean Kayz, DH's work is taking bets i think that veggiebaby will be a christmas baby, if i have him in me that long i will go mad i am so uncomfortable, i need my body back, we only have 13 steps to our upstairs rooms and it feels like a marathon going up there....ad i've done a marathon. I'm sick of my belly ariving in rooms 5 mins before i do, it oges so far out in front of me.

The nice thing is with 2 weeks to go DH has started in homeopath mode as all the countdown remedies start this week. Bless him he has his little bit of paper with all the things i am to take over the next 2 weeks and also things to take if i am having certain fears or emotions. He is such a sweetie, i tell you what even if it doesn't work it does give him a feeling that he is doing something to help me which is nice for both of us.

Trace- i am also feeling that loss of my life with DS and i think it is natural and is probably best to face it and accept it. I have to say whether we were having DS2 or not i am starting to feel that loss anyway, as he is each day so into his dad, sometimes it hurts a little to see my little man that was all mine for so long prefer being with his daddy. I'm ot jealous of DH of course just miss my little companion. which i guess is silly we are still very close but now he is as happy with his dad if he is sick or sad as ihe is with his mummy. Oh well i'll just replace him with DS2, no just joking

CatchaStar · 01/12/2008 11:57

Sorry to intrude! Just came on to see if any of you lot were popping lol!

Kimberly1979, I had the rash when I was pregnant with my dd. The docs will probably give you a cream with a tiny ammount of steriods in and it's not very good! Get some soothing aftersun lotion with some kind of cooling agent in and it'll take the itch/sting right out of it. Hope this help!

Kimberly1979 · 01/12/2008 12:03

Thanks everyone. I'll go ahead and call the MW.

Beans33 · 01/12/2008 12:09

What are we going to call the new post?

How about "Once you pop, you can't stop..."

Hee hee!

Kimberly - that sounds so horrid - poor you! I hate being itchy.

poisondwarf · 01/12/2008 12:13

theyoungvisiter meant to mention this yesterday but forgot - didn't realise you were still feeding DS1. I stopped at 6 months pg (when DS was 17 months) but only because he just didn't want to any more. Part of me feels relieved as I think I might have found it exhausting, but part of me also thinks it would have been nice to carry on. I'm pretty sure it won't happen but I do sometimes wonder if DS might get the urge to take it up again when he sees DD feeding.

Anyway I'd be interested to hear what your experience of tandem feeding has been so far if you get the chance to post.

traceface · 01/12/2008 12:16

Beans - I love that thread name...although I fear it may make me want Pringles and more Pringles every time I log on!

Bisou · 01/12/2008 12:21

Bisou · 01/12/2008 12:22

poisondwarf · 01/12/2008 12:23

Beans33 · 01/12/2008 12:30

Hee hee - Sorry Jam - didn't realise I'd stolen your idea - evil me!

I do like SL's suggestion as well - the novelty definitely HAS worn flat - I'm so ready!!!

zoejeanne · 01/12/2008 12:30

Hello, and happy December everyone! Can?t believe our month has arrived already ? and hopefully a baby for chutney already as well!

TYV ? wow, you are feeding 2 children, I am in awe of you!

Lal ? great to hear from you and that your birth experience was so good, despite not going according to plan. Hope you enjoyed that champagne, you deserve it!

Trace ? I hope you?re feeling better today, your post yesterday was so so reassuring, please do read it back to yourself as you made me feel heaps better and I want you to feel the same. I?m glad to hear the CPN helped this morning

Mibbes ? have you been checked out this morning? I hope all is well with you and baby Mibbes? And JJ too ? rest sounds like a very good plan, and babies don?t understand about mess anyway, so won?t care if it arrives before you?ve tidied up.

Veggie ? LOL at shocking your DH with the TENS , I think mine comes this week and I am very tempted to do the same to Mr ZJ!

Oli ? I?m chuckling at your DS ?why does spiderman have a face?? ? oh I have so much to come? My nephew came over last weekend (he?s 3 ½), but he?s going through a ?why not?? phase, not sure which is harder to answer ?

Great to hear from you rosmerta, and sending ?hurry up baby? vibes to you

Beans ? I?m pleased you and DH have had a good weekend, bank that feeling for stressed out days!

SL ? good job you found the puncture now, and not in the middle of a contraction

And I love all those thread names, any gets my vote!

Ok, off for some lunch and start my afternoon jobs (seeing as this mornings jobs didn?t happen ? )

JamInMyWellies · 01/12/2008 12:47

How lovely more yummy babies, congrats to TYV, LAL. Chutney good luck for today.

Still no sign of baby jam turning up 1wk to go till due date I really would like it over and done with now am very fed up of being pregnant.

Did I see talk of birth plans really must crack on and write it.

Need to write more but must go do my hypno CD while DS is sleeping, catch you all later.

Veggiemummy · 01/12/2008 12:50

well i can't choose btw SL's and JJ, but more importantly Bisou, are you a virgo i knew you liked lists but thats bordering on austistic i think you may be wasting your talent in Opera singing, and should consider a career in PR or a high level PA.

I also laughed at the why does spiderman have a face? question, DS has just started with all the why? stuff sometimes i feel every creative and like to help him delve into the possible answers and then other times i resort to my late nanna's response 'because Ys a crooked letter and you can't make it straight' at which point he screws his face up at me pauses and says.... but whhhhyyyyyyyyy mummy?

Bisou · 01/12/2008 12:53

In regards to using cabbage leaves for engorgement when your milk comes in - I had a breastfeeding class recently, and the lactation specialist (love that title) said to be a little wary of using them as they can interfere with supply (as in, stop or slow it down) and that the best solution for engorgement was feeding often & not skipping feeds. Perhaps they are good for someone who has an oversupply though (just guessing here) but just wanted to mention it as it was contradictory to other things I've read & heard. veggie was it you that's did that comprehensive breastfeeding course? What did they say about it there?

For all the raspberry tea-ers, I've heard (or read, can't remember) that the raspberry leaf tablets are more potent than the tea so you don't need to worry about having 5/6 cups a day. Mind you - the tablets I've got instruct to take "3 tablets, 3 times a day" and it's such a faff that I haven't taken them for the last 2 days

zoejeanne sometimes you can be having Braxton Hicks but not realise! My (midwife) mum was visiting about a week ago, and at one stage went "ooh that's a braxton hicks" while she had her hand on my belly, and I didn't even know I was having one. I have felt them occasionally, but only usually when I'm up walking or doing something physical. So you may be having them but not even realise. I hope this bodes well, and that I don't realise I'm in labour either till the baby comes out? Hey, I can dream can't I?

daisy and verso it's so good of you to come on here and share your birth stories. It's incredibly inspiring to hear of your overwhelming love and affection for your new DCs - I'm going to try to use thoughts like these to inspire me when I'm eventually in labour to get me through. So thank you both so much, and hope you're doing well with the new loves of your life

veggie - no lotus birth for me please. I think it's going to be enough trying to deal with the spew and vomit let alone a decaying placenta in a bag... feeling slightly ill thinking about it.

effie can they really not let you in the MLU if you have to have the AB for GBS? I'm allowed to stay in the birthing centre (but I'm in Oz of course) - they've told me all they need is a midwife who is also a registered nurse who can give the AB, I wouldn't have thought it was that big a deal? Perhaps you should stress that this is really important to you and appeal to see if there is any way around it (does the NHS have guidelines on this sort of thing, or does it vary from hospital to hospital?)

And on a very happy note... it's finally December!!! We put up our Christmas tree today and it's SOOOOOO beautiful. I'm such a sucker for Christmassy stuff. I already have 3 silly outfits to dress DS in when he arrives (I'm sure he'll be very late just to spite me, lol)

Beans33 · 01/12/2008 12:58

Guys, I'm going to ask a really really silly question now, for those of you who've had babies. Am quite embarrassed to be asking it as have read books and things and probably should know but... HOW do you know when you're in labour? I mean, so many cramps and things in the lead up to it, but nothing regular or continuous etc. I keep thinking it might be happening and it's not! But how do you really really know????!!! And what are the early indicators etc? Sorry to be so gormless and ask such a dim question, but I'm just keen to have an inkling...

Bisou · 01/12/2008 13:02

LOL veggie no I'm not a virgo (am a libran) but you are right - my DH thinks I'm a bit obsessive compulsive too sometimes. I had to put the lights on the Christmas tree all by myself so that they were perfectly balanced on each side (= control freak!!) I think when everyone was suggesting thread names I just thought I'd make a note of them as we'd need them again so soon - we whiz through these threads so fast! I wish I was as organised with my UK tax though - I still haven't done my 06/07 return!

Bisou · 01/12/2008 13:05

"but nothing regular or continuous etc"

I think you've got it right there in your own words beans. I believe contractions have to be regular and continuous to be classified as 'established labour'.

Someone please do tell me if I'm wrong though (I'm a newbie at this too!)

Bisou · 01/12/2008 13:07

Hey wouldn't it be cool if we just had one of those turkey timer things that popped and said "DONE" when it was time? My belly button is certainly going that way! LOL

poisondwarf · 01/12/2008 13:10

Beans I was just wondering how come none of the newbies are asking that question (and also how come none of you seem to be panicking at the thought)!

I remember the feeling - it's just such an unknown quantity that people telling you "don't worry, you'll just know" is not very helpful is it? Not going to be very helpful here either but my experience was: about 5 days of discomfort & cramping at the bottom of my abdomen. Don't know at what point they turned into contractions but it was a gradual thing for me, not an OMG I'm in labour moment. About 3 or 4 days of more energy than usual (going for 5-mile walks & stuff) - not sure how much of that was my body & how much was the threat of induction though. Mucus plug went Friday mid-morning but also got more dribs & drabs over the following day or so as my cervix slowly dilated, like you've had by the sounds of it.

Ultimately though I realised I was probably in labour when it dawned on me to time the cramps and realised they were regular - this was on the Friday evening but they could have been regular for ages really. Carried on timing them & turns out they were getting closer together. Had DS late Saturday evening.
