kmp I'd definitely take the plastic off asap to allow the mattress to air and get rid of the chemical residue from the packaging. Could you leave the bedding folded over the side until the night before?

Verso · 21/11/2008 14:58

Sorry this will be yet another 'me' post - but I'm so upset . I phoned the MAU to check everything is on track for Tuesday (they were less than helpful earlier in the week which didn't inspire confidence). Anyway, they said they were busy and asked me to call back - which I've just done. The woman I've just spoken to asked me what it was about and when I said I wanted to check everything was booked in for Tuesday because there had been confusion this week at the clinic

SHE LAUGHED AT ME

She said she could "check the diary" but that was all

I am now completely and utterly panicking. I've been roughly ok for the past few weeks, just thinking I couldn't possibly have another administration nightmare like the postnatal Kafka trauma I lived through last time - but it looks like it's all happening again.

WHY DOESN'T ANYONE TAKE MY FEARS SERIOUSLY?!

Sorry. But this is so difficult after DD's birth and I really don't know where to turn. I've left msgs for DH to call me when he finishes teaching today. I feel sick

kayzisexpecting · 21/11/2008 15:05

Verso Have some , I really feel for you. You'd think they could do a lot more than just "Check the diary". You are having a CS for goodness sake not having your hair done!!

Is there anyone you can complain to?

OP posts:
hattyyellow · 21/11/2008 15:15

Verso am fuming on your behalf. What an absolute witch - how dare she laugh at you! You are phoning to confirm such an important thing, plus they must know that many people need to get childcare and other arrangements in place.

I'd raise merry hell and demand to speak to the consulant, another midwife, get your community midwife to ring - anyone really who can make more noise by having an official title.

Really hope you get it sorted out - I remember well with my elective section being so relieved that everything was in place and I could just prepare mentally for the experience.

artichokes · 21/11/2008 15:25

Verso - I would have a rant at them. The more fuss you make the more they will listen. You really do not need this kind of stress.

Effie - I have done all my christmas shopping online. I got DD loads of books from Amazon, some bits from the ELC site and some clothes from Mini Boden. They are all wrapped now and I have even stuffed her stocking (sorry!).

I have just staggered back from Rigby and Peller as they are meant to do great nursing bras (its where the Queen gets her undies!). It was horrific. They measure you by putting you in a cubicle with magnifying mirrors on three sides and very bright lights. Then you strip your whole top half and they measure by looking at you. Oh My God - I never want to see my body is such illuminated 3D glory again (and certainly not while being watched by Gosha the ferocious fitter). I am huge. I thought I had avoided stretch marks and I clearly have not. My boobs are hideous enlarged relics of their former petite selves (I have gone from 34C to 36F). I did get some great bras but it was torture.

Annoyingly the Head of the Birth Centre did not call at the alloted time. I waited half an hour and then left. Typically she called while I was in teh shop and I missed the call. She said she would call back between 3.30-6pm so I am still nervous.

zoejeanne · 21/11/2008 15:27

oh verso you poor thing. If you'd not phoned to confirm and then turned up at the wrong time or something then you'd have got a ticking off good and proper so surely it's in everyone's interests, not just yours to double check all the details. Sending angry vibes on your behalf to that lady (and hoping something crops up this afternoon that means she has to stay late on a Friday)

Verso · 21/11/2008 15:27

I can't bear to phone any more medical people - they're all as insensitive as each other. I've sent an email to the hospital PALs service to make an official complaint though. Still leaves me wondering what on earth will happen next week.

artichokes · 21/11/2008 15:38

Can a friend call on your behalf Verso?

abbymeg · 21/11/2008 15:39

Verso I would get someone else - preferably DH - to ring up and play hell with them on your behalf as soon as possible, if you can't face it. Could you phone your GP and ask them to check it out for you? I can completely understand why you feel so upset and I think you should try to get it sorted out for your peace of mind over the weekend; the last thing that you want or need is to be worrying yourself silly before going in for a serious op. I know how stressful it is, having been through the system once already this year (not giving birth though!) and am facing it again in December with CS. My last birth was a joke and I've vowed not to put up with their rubbish this time around, though I realise that it's hard to fight when you feel so vulnerable. I found GP force and crying got me in for my last op on time when it was hanging in the balance. Good luck sorting it out, I hope it all goes well. Make sure you take good care of yourself.

Verso · 21/11/2008 15:49

Midwife counsellor has just phoned (they must have been discussing me!) and has booked me in to see her 10am Monday to go through everything. Also the woman I spoke to earlier has left a message confirming that my notes are on labour ward and that they are expecting me on Tuesday.

I feel like such an idiot - they must think I'm a complete loony - but I was left so so very alone last time... and this kind of mix-up and misunderstanding is exactly what led to me and DD being readmitted to hospital after her birth, so I'm hypersensitive to it I suppose.

Thanks for all your support. I must come across as such a wibbly wreck. I'm actually a reasonably strong/well-balanced person - just not about this!

abbymeg · 21/11/2008 15:57

Good news! It all sounds like it's happening for you. How exciting! I don't blame you for being anxious; it's often from bitter experience that many of us feel nervous when faced with relying on the NHS. Best wishes for Tuesday. Have a restful weekend .

hattyyellow · 21/11/2008 16:00

Verso that's brilliant news - I was sad at the thought of you worrying all weekend during your last weekend pre-baby.

Don't feel bad at all. I am hugely relieved that I'm at a different hospital from where I had my twins, as there were so many mistakes and problems after the birth there - so I think it's imperative that you feel as happy and confident in them as possible before you arrive on Tuesday.

katie3677 · 21/11/2008 16:02

Sperm mixed with orange juice???? Bleurgh [Vomit emoticon]. Sorry loads of other stuff to catch up on, but can't quite get that image out of my head so will have to come back later when I'm not so grossed out.

daisydora · 21/11/2008 16:18

verso big hug & glad that things are sorted for you. I'm also that people can be so bloody thoughtless, how dare she laugh at you!

Am now panicking a bit myself that my hospital won't be ready for me on Tuesday!!!! Phoned my mum (she is also one of the community MW's round here), and said she checked things are fine - she has even had a word with the consultant who is doing my CS. I just have to ring on Monday night now and make sure they will have a bed for me, hope they don't have a run on emergencies.....

Beans33 · 21/11/2008 16:36

Phew, verso - what a relief. Hurray for Tuesday! So excited!

I've been howling with laughter about the various spunk concoctions... A pint of Harry Monk please - ha ha ha ha! Disgusting! Even when I am feeling "romantic" (whatever!), I avoid drinking the stuff, so nothing would make me want to drink it when I'm not!!!

I have some (not very) exciting news... Last night I did my first nipple leak. Oh yes.

EffiePerine · 21/11/2008 16:50

Verso: glad they have got moving at last. Hopefully you can enjoy your final weekend pre-baby now. In case you aren't back online before Tues I wish the very best for you and the new baby . Will be thinking of LadyT as well

(actually, I will also be eating pizza as we have our work 'Xmas' do that evening but you don't need to think about that )

hattyyellow · 21/11/2008 16:52

I want nipple leaks! Seriously, it would be so reassuring as I would feel like breastfeeding would therefore be simple as anything as I had such high supplies. I never get a drop!

It's so sweet, I am working from home today finishing my last pieces of work for my freelance client before starting maternity leave officially from Monday. DH and DD's have just run upstairs to say they are taking me to our lovely local pub as soon as I've finished.

I was feeling sad that last time around I was an employee and got the whole leaving tea and cakes, speech, drinks routine and this time I work from home for a client 300 miles away and would just shut down my computer and stop work without any acknowledgement. Hurrah! DH has promised to get a bit tipsy and photocopy his bottom on our little office photocopier when we get home just so as to recreate the "works drinks" feel.

zoejeanne · 21/11/2008 17:08

verso what a relief for you, I'm very for you that someone reasonable called back and that all is in order. Now relax for the 3 days that is left before you meet your LO (wow!)

beans/hatty don't like to show off, but I've been leaking since the beginning of September. Luckily only at night (and I think its partly because I wrap my arms around me, so must sort of squeeze it out), but I'm worried I'll run out before babyZJ is born. hatty you cna have some of my leaks if you want?? And LOL at your DH, photocopying his bum for you

traceface · 21/11/2008 17:34

hatty - love the idea of your work leaving do at home!
verso - glad you've made some progress - hope you have a relaxing weekend and that Mrs Monday Morning is constructive and helpful.
Kayz - thanks for the new thread! There are some very efficient people on here!
Have bought dd's first school uniform today - very exciting! Also been to antenatal class on feeding...
Tonight am off out for dinner with 2 ol' pals who I did my nurse training with...i know I'll enjoy it but part of me would rather stay in just so I can keep my baggy trousers on and not have to make an effort with my appearance! It's a glamourous life I lead! And it's tooooooo cold today
Have a nice evening all...
xxx

kayzisexpecting · 21/11/2008 18:32

Verso I am so glad things have been sorted out for you. Try to enjoy your weekend.

I am now eating my pizza, it is so gorgeous. I also have some onion rings. I text DH and he was most jealous!!!

OP posts:
katie3677 · 21/11/2008 19:08

Verso glad everything is sorted for you. Do you have to ring in advance if you are booked in for a C-section? I was naively assuming that because I am booked in that I will just turn up and they'll do it. I'm not seeing anyone now until I go to hospital so don't know who to ask.

kayzisexpecting · 21/11/2008 19:18

I've just had 2 painful BH's or 2 weak contractions. I'm not getting to excitied. I'm going to go have a bath and see what happens from there.

OP posts:
artichokes · 21/11/2008 19:32

Ooooh - let us know what happens Kayz. How far apart were they? Careful though, warm baths can slow or stop early signs of labour.

Turniphead1 · 21/11/2008 19:32

Oooh Kayz that would be exciting! Keep us posted!

Verso I am so cross at how you were treated. Time and again I am amazed by how people who should know better forget how vulnerable pregnant women are. Especially if they have had a previous bad experience. Here's hoping it's all plain sailing on Tues! Have a lovely weekend m'dear

Arti hope you got a positive response for the m/w at the MLU!

trace enjoy your night out and wrap up well.

My sis is over from Ireland - she is putting my DC to bed - and hopefully cooking my tea. DH is stuck at work poor thing.

mibbes · 21/11/2008 19:38

kayz thanks for the new thread

hatty hurray for ML starting and bless your DH ! enjoy

Arti LOL at the thought of you winking at the other new mums in your hospital ward !!! and at the very prospect of the milkshake - that's like something from the celebrity jungle !

hiccy fully engaged !!! how exciting

at mattress and plastic wrapping - I've kept it on to keep it clean !! Must remove it immediately.
