givethedogabone- Am glad to hear your also not having BH. I think i read somewhere that some people just don't have/ Feel any until the real thing. If thats true, at least i'm less likely to be taking myself to the hospitial in the middle of the night with a false start... Knowning how melodramatic i am thats a relief... Sigh...

Ohhh, my mum was ranting and raving about those M&S Meal deal things the other day. Sounds like a good deal...Esp considering i love ALL things Marks and Sparks.

Am a bit have been waiting in all day for a NEXT home delivery due between 12-6.. Well its 5.56pm and no sign, and no call. Hmmpft. Am off to a friends house for a girly evening, but will be checking NEXT's ear off in the morning & demanding my furniture at 9am Monday morning :-D

Have baked muffins and made fudge (although not totally set up, heres hoping it does) to take with me tonight. Having a girly night and pizza as our OHs away. Trying to stack things like this in, as know they will be few and far between once beanie arrives, and will take LOTS of advanced planning. etc.

ohhh, and tried a new tummy oil yesterday from a health shop in town. its Wheatgerm oil. Doesn't smell great, well it doesnt smell bad, just not perfumed... REALLY high in Vitamin E - suposed to do the trick. Heres hoping so far so good.

Finally ( i am going, i promise) on the bottom of my boobs i've got a few tiny little purple vein like things, not usual blue veins, like on my skin a bit.. (i mean TINY, i can only find when looking for them) ...What are they?? Anyone??

moosemama · 21/11/2008 18:22

rrrayray, I didn't get BH with DS1 and only a few in the last couple of weeks with DS2. They are killer this time though and have been having them on and off for weeks now.

flf, glad all was well. Make sure you get plenty of rest now though, my BH are so much worse when I do too much.

With that in mind I am having a lazy Mummy night, DH on way home armed with chips from the chip shop. Oh well, at least their lunch boxes were healthy.

LenniEd · 21/11/2008 18:50

Glad everything ok FLF - like LG&T said, always best to get checked out - that is what the midwives on antenatal are there for after all. And makes you feel so much better when you know it is all ok.

Contractions have stopped and just BHs again now. Nothing regular or too painful. Bump is now very low though and suddenly feel very pregnant as result. Am wandering around clutching my back for support! Oh well, 7 weeks ish left now so spose I should be feeling pregnant!!!

I didn't get any BH with DD until close to the end - maybe about 36wks and then they weren't painful just uncomfortable. This time round they are horrid, really uncomfortable and making me feel really crampy. So don't worry. I remember last time round spending so much time wondering what the contractions would be like and thinking every time I had a pain "Was that a contraction?" - absolutely no confusing them.

qumps · 21/11/2008 19:14

had no bh first time round and was desperate for one. this time loads and could do without.
little twinges and aches and pains and seriously weak pelvic floor all over the place. dh goes away to dubai for a week on sun. am i wrong in thinking that at least if baby comes while he is away (highly unlikely i know) that i can get in their with my choice of name before he gets back?!

sorry preggers brain and forgot you had other dcs gtdab. best keep pushchair out of the way then. lucky you getting a new one. have you had a new one for each dc? my buggy is a disgrace and def needs a clean before baby arrives. its because i have to bribe ds with food to get in it

moosemama · 21/11/2008 20:46

Oh no!

DS1 seemed ok but tired when he came home from school and within the hour said he had a bad tum. He has since decided he wanted to go to bed an hour early, I gave him calpol and sat and read to him until he wanted to sleep then came downstairs. No sooner had I left him then he threw up everywhere (and I mean everywhere) all over his bed and room. We'd literally just changed the bedding and cleaned it all up and he did it again!

Dh has ordered me away from the sick (he's worried if I get D&V it could kick off proper contractions).

Looks like we're in for another great weekend!

MsSparkle · 21/11/2008 20:47

flf glad everythings ok

ray, your not the only one. I never experienced bh either, not with this pregnancy or with dd.

Doctor has given me iron tablets because my iron is low. No wonder i have been feeling really tired lately!

I had a phone call from someone at the mental health clinic today. Makes me sound like i am crazy. They wanted to do an assesment over the phone with me to see what catagry i fit into but i just couldn't talk on the phone. I hate talking on the phone anyway but especially regarding something like that. Plus the girl i spoke too sounded like she was about 10 years old, seriously! She sounded really unconfident and unsure of herself with alot of awkward silences and "ums." Anyway, going to see someone in a couple of weeks for a face to face assesment. Much better. They took their time though as this has been pending since August!

moosemama · 21/11/2008 20:58

MsSparkle, I've not heard of assessing people over the phone before. That doesn't sound very appropriate to me, you were right to hold out for a face to face assessment. Glad it's being dealt with at last.

stripeywoollenhat · 21/11/2008 21:57

hi all.
i think that i have been having BH - bump goes rigid, everything feels very strained? but kicks in fairly subtly and while it's a bit uncomfortable, i wouldn't say it hurts? does that sound right? seem to get it particularly when i am walking.

glad everything settled down, flf.
moosemama - sorry to hear about poor ds - and you and dp as well, with all the vomit and washing...

moosemama · 21/11/2008 22:21

Stripey, yep that sounds like normal BH. All the books etc say they shouldn't be painful just tightenings which may cause mild discomfort. My midwife was surprised at how painful mine have been, but I have heard lots of other 2nd and 3rd timers saying theirs are none to pleasant. I also read somewhere that they can get worse for some people in subsequent pregnancies as the uterus knows what to do, so to speak, and is therefore able to contract more efficiently.

Thanks for the sympathy btw. Just stripped the bed for the third time tonight. Washing machine and tumble drier going full bat but will soon be running out of bedding to fit his bed at this rate! He had two sick bowls and managed to miss both! Poor little thing has gone downhill really quickly and looks such a weird colour, big black rings under the eyes with a strange pale green pallor (sp). He is very rarely ill and isn't handling it well at all. He wants Daddy to sit with him till he falls asleep again now so that's why I've just switched the laptop back on (the dogs are being no company at all ). Don't think there's much point in us going to bed at the moment as he seems to be sleeping deeply one minute and throwing up the next.

rrrayray · 22/11/2008 10:29

morning ladies...

Had a bit of a strange turn this morning.. was woken up about 5.30am by tummy Ache, and felt a little sick (not like i WAS going to throw up, but just a bit sicky) the tummy ache was really crampy and seemed to come and go. I Ignored it until about half 7, it was quite uncomfortable, but not REALLY painful. Problem was OH is away for the weekend, so i didn't have anyone to talk to, eventually i called him at half 7, and he didn't seem TOO alarmed. Anyway i stayed in bed until about half 9, and they seemed to have eased off a little bit, just got a bit of a sore back now.

I'm wondering if i ate something funny last night (i know its a bit too much info, but i'm a bit windy this morning, and it smells GOD awful) or whether they were the much aclaimed BH i have been wondering about??? they just were stronger than i thought they'd be...Borderline painful?!? Any ideas anyone I think if they come back later i'll call the midwife, i just didn't want to call her for an upset tummy!!

LenniEd · 22/11/2008 11:14

Hi rrayray - am not sure TBH. Thought I'd reply anyway though in case you were worrying. Ring the midwife if you are not sure as she'll have a good idea what it could be. Could well be the head moving down and pressing on your pelvis that will be causing cramps - is about the right time for a first timer for the head to start engaging. My BH are painful but as MM says they shouldn't be painful so much as uncomfortable.

TBH this last stretch there are going to be loads of aches and pains and not feeling right but its important you keep an eye on anything new and tell your midwife. From now on in we'll all be moaning and having false alarms - its what happens as your body gears up for labour. Towards the very end last time I could barely walk, was stiff as a board if I sat for more than 5 minutes and was generally an emotional wreck so I'm pretty much expecting the same this time!! And when all of that happens I'll know baby is about to arrive and will be happy!

rrrayray · 22/11/2008 11:23

Thanks LenniEd, i spoke to my mum who just said if they start up again to call the midwife. Sounds naughty, but half the reason i didn't want to call the midwife was i know it isn't for real just now (i have 9 weeks to go, surely not!) and i didn't fancy driving 20 mins to the nearest hospitial for monitoring.

That said, when i pop to do the food shopping today i think i should buy some newborn nappies, breast pads and some maternity pads, so at least i have the basics of a hospitial bag....... as my midwife told me to pack it last time i saw her 2 weeks ago as bubba was already head down and 1/5 engaged!! Course i completley ignored her.... i don't want a newborn before Christmas... i'd rather be the fat festive turkey!

I seem to be on emmotional tenter hooks too... I hope X factor isn't too emmotional tonight, or i'll be through boxes of tissues!!

Off to finish my xmas shopping list & do a bit online too.... I KNOW what i'm getting most people, just havent got around to actually buying it. Doh.

tinkisallreadytositonthetree · 22/11/2008 13:16

It is Bloody freezing here too.. Snowed for about 5 mins about half 1. But nothing heavy & no laying.

Nipped to Sainsburys so now have a pack of newborn nappies, 3 pink muslin Squares and some super MAXI night pads- they didn't have maternity ones- but should push come to shove, i'm sure these would do OK until i could get the others. Feeling better now that i have the BARE essentials (already have plenty of clothes for her, cotton wool balls, etc) Will get onto the rest of the massive List this week!

X factor night indeed, just got home, going to put the wood fire on and get everything toasty before OH gets home!

fourlittlefeet · 22/11/2008 19:28

Ray and stripey, looks like its all kicking off. Someone has to be first . I think my 'hiccup' was to do with too much raspberry leaf tea. Have stopped drinking it and the BH have backed off.

Also taken up knitting which makes me sit still and upright a bit more during the day, which I think helps. Shocked DP though; he looked at me knitting and drinking alcohol free beer tonight and said 'what's happened to the girl I know and love?!'. He was joking, but kind of has a point as usually I'm out partying til all hours! The answer, for 20 blanks is of course babies, my new hobby. Am really enjoying learning to knit though, and teddy will have a new blanket by this time next week . Babies' hats next!

LenniEd · 22/11/2008 19:39

Maxi Night pads are better than maternity ones anyhow rrayray. The maternity ones are nice for immediately after as they are really cushioned but after the first day they are too bulky and slip out of position. Try not to buy always pads though - they have a plastic layer on the top which stops you from healing as quickly and also collects up all the clotted bits of blood and stuff so you just end up with a big mess all of the time. Kotex don't have the plastic layer and neither do most own-brands.

FLF - I've also learnt to knit the last few weeks! Got the same look from DH (I expect) - the where has my young fun-loving girlfriend gone followed by an "Oh yeah, I married her and impregnated her... twice!".

DH said to me today in response to my complaints about not being able to drink after he decided he was going out next week for his final drinking session before the dry spell "Well its not my fault you keep getting pregnant!" Er... hate to break it to you...

MissHairspray · 22/11/2008 19:49

Evening ladies, just catching up with the new thread. Seems like there have been some scary moments but glad everything OK FLF and rrayray.
I feel so old and boring at the mo - I wish I could just put on a slinky dress, have a few margheritas and go out dancing with the girls - maternity clothes, sensible shoes and orange juice just don't cut it and i'm tired even pretending anymore. Next Saturday I have cancelled a night out in favour of packing my hospital bag and washing babs clothes. Oh the shame! I have promised myself though that once he arrives and the first few weeks are over I will treat myself to the most outrageously adorable-but- impractical pair of shoes I can find (OK so I could be v.naive here but just humour me for now!).

I haven't had any bh either I don't think, although I do feel as if babs is trying to break out of my belly button sometimes, usually at 5am when i'm trying desperately to get back to sleep.

Wrap up warm everyone, it is freezing!

rrrayray · 22/11/2008 19:51

FLF - from what i have read, raspberry leaf tea is not suposed to have any effect on bringing on labour, simply making the second stage faster. So backing off the Raspberry leaf i would Guess logically would make your BH calm down, as surely BH is your uterus getting in shape for 2nd stage!?!

LenniEd- i thought the idea (don't quote me, not sure where heard! ha!) of maternity ones was for the first 24 ish hours, as it doesnt "lock" the bloody mess (sorry) away, so you can check that everything OK? ...Now i've written that, sounds like a load of hot air. I remmeber someone (possibly You?) mentioning the always thing before... i just plumped for sainsburys own maxi pads, it was like 2 pads for £1.20. 10 in a pack, got 4 packs in Total. so got 40- hurrah!

Have just taken a picture of my baby bump to send to one of my best friends who lives in the states (will try and upload onto my profile on here, but not entirely sure how?!)and my indecisive 1/2 in 1/2 out belly button seems to be OUT ish now... as can be seen through material. I think its pretty cute though!

Well done for knitting FLF, LenniEd - i'm useless at such things! i'm sure your little bubba will be very grateful of the warm clothes, lovingly made!

fourlittlefeet · 22/11/2008 19:53

ewwww. had forgotten about the lumpy bits in the pads. thanks for that Lenni . good tip though. ooh another knitter! will post a picture of my first teddy blanket when done . Lol at our Dh's.

Anyone wanting to know what BH's feel like, get that raspberry leaf tea on to brew... I dare ya .
