shopped up a storm today which is one of my favourite passtimes so in much better mood. what with 20% off at m&s and 30% voucher for gap saved as much as i spent - this will def be the line i give dh! bought some GORGEOUS baby stuff. first bits as have been too nervous to up until now.
we also planned to move ds into new bedroom ages ago and still not done it. painted but no carpet or blinds. fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.
tinks digital albums are brilliant. store all my stuff on truprint and then use to make presents. did calendars for everyone last year, a one year book of ds and doing mugs this year. if you buy more than one of the same thing you get 20% off.
good luck to all who have check ups today.

How do they do that? It is so odd, i just walked to school and it feels like she is very low in the pelvis Arghhhhh!

A poo, yes very important when pregnant. Eat some dried apricots while perusing Debenhams looking at gorgeous tiny things

treedelivery · 20/11/2008 16:28

Can't face debs now. Might have 3rd cream bun . And apricots of course.

Can shop online afterall.

treedelivery · 20/11/2008 16:31

dh at work till 10, and I'm hungry and can't be bothered cooking and I want a kebab.

dd1 arriving shortly wanting healthy dinner. NOT kebab.

But I want a kebab. And a cold larger with condensation running down side of glass, all fizzy and foamy drooooool.

Is this good parenting?

r u ladies using water and cotton wool on your newborn or going straight to wipes?

OP posts:
elkiedee · 20/11/2008 16:51

Hi all

Tink and others, I'm one of those who'd prefer to keep the longer stats list - people might or might not come back as they start maternity leave/the final few weeks - I know I did that in first pregnancy and would have found it a bit offputting. Plus I worry that those who have longer to go are less likely to be posting at the moment, and I don't want to be all alone here by the middle of January! (not due till 26th).

Ray, I'm shocked that you can't go overdue for the MLU - I know they can't deal with complications, but being overdue is not in itself a complication so long as you manage to avoid induction and the rest...

I finally got myself to an aquanatal class last night. There were moments when I felt a bit thick as I didn't understand the instructions or just felt too unbalanced or something to be able to do what we were being told. But then I've never been to formal exercise classes since I stopped having to do PE at school. Being in the pool was LOVELY though, I haven't felt so comfy anywhere in weeks! I hope I can get it together to get back there next Monday. And there was a woman having her first baby at 42, planned homebirth, 38 weeks - she was talking about going on Monday (assuming she hasn't had the baby!)

treedelivery · 20/11/2008 16:55

Cotton wool and chamomile tea - I put a tea bag in a bowl and leave the bowl wherever we do nappies, and let it stew all day.

Never had a nappy rash under that system with dd1. Its fab. I used to bring it out in a tiny travel spray bottle too - or stick some cotton wool under a tap in the loo's.

My local [hospital not pub - I wish] doesn't 'allow' wipes. Not advised till a month I think.
Wipes ok for babies- but I found the product needs washing off after it's cleaned. That was a faf I found.

moosemama · 20/11/2008 17:23

Hi

Midwife went well. Iron levels low and threatened with the dreaded constipation pills but promised faithfully to ingest lots of healthy veggie iron rich food and remember to take my floradix religiously. Sugars were good and BP in my normal range.

At least the low iron explains why I am so tired and keep expiring at shop checkouts.

Little madam was right out in front in the waiting room, then immediately turned back to back as soon as I lay down to be measured.

Measuring bang on for dates, which if she follows the existing curve on those individualised charts suggests she will be on the larger side of 8 1/2 - 9 lbs!

Have appointment booked at home in two weeks time for her to come and discuss the home birth with DH and I and drop off the home birth kit. Found out that they can loan me a pool. Apparently we just need to provide a liner, which is great news as I had been thinking about not doing the water birth due to the cost.

She seems very keen to get the birthing situation organised all of a sudden and seemed not to disagree with my gut feeling that we might have an early arrival.

Went for coffee and cake with Mum after the appointment and had my breath taken away by major braxton hicks. Bump was rock solid for ages and really painful. Mum was convinced I was going into labour there and then! Had more pains really low down since getting back from the school run. DH taking boys to visit Nanny for her birthday so think I'd better put my feet up for the evening.

It all suddenly seems very real and very close now. Am sat in my living room looking at the general chaos and mahem and thinking we will never be ready in time!

Thank goodness I ordered a made to measure mattress for the crib last night on 7 day delivery. We have bought one of these bedside cribs and wanted to replace the rather hard cocomat mattress with a softer one. Have had a mattress made to fit the whole width of the crib including the extra panel which hooks over the side of the bed and will get a standard size one from Mothercare or somewhere if we decide to use it with the side up later on. Oh, btw, we are not using the 'luvverly' bedding (ours was yellow) or drapes that came with the cot, we have plain white for while she's in our room. Crib was a bargain at 49 pounds plus delivery though, especially as bedside cribs are hard to get or cost around 175 pounds in the UK.

stripeywoollenhat · 20/11/2008 17:55

hi all
had ante-natal class no2 today - the first stage of labour, which was thoroughly alarming - i am thinking of not going to the hospital at all, and just staying fat with a strangely lively abdomen. i think it was that plastic crochet hook that did it, and the midwife who took the class asserting that it's use doesn't hurt. yeah, right. also, the horrid little hook they would have to put in poor titch's head to monitor her should i opt for the epidural is really unpleasant - though i know in the context of being caught in a terrifying contracting muscle for hours it's probably pretty small beer.

have started taking raspberry leaf capsules. and bought some lansinoh today - so clearly it is really my plan to let the poor girl out at some point....

agree that some of the absentees might come back during the last couple of weeks so i think we should leave the list as is; i know that from christmas i will be cooling my heels at home and will probably spend hours on mumsnet at that point

stripeywoollenhat · 20/11/2008 17:58

oh my god - its use, i mean. i am going to call that a pregnancy apostrophe.

LenniEd · 20/11/2008 19:55

Hi all,

Too much to catch up on now. Had a bit of a false alarm yesterday/today - contractions on and off for about 12 hours. Have seen MW this morning and looks like everything is ok but cream-crackered and off to bed so will catch up in the morning. MW said prob head engaging triggered it off and most likely will settle down in next day or so.

Stripey - they don't have to use an internal monitor if you have an epidural - they can use an external one unless they can't get a reading or the baby is in distress. And even where something is protocol in a hospital you still have every right to refuse it.

Night all.

fourlittlefeet · 20/11/2008 21:49

Evening all; funny Lenni, I've felt like I'm having contractions all yesterday and today. Might be the pots of raspberry leaf tea I had on mon and tues. Am laying off it for a week or so as don't want pre xmas bub if I can help it!

Constipation can't withstand tesco's prune juice. you know you want to. its quite sweet so I just used it on cereal. than again I'm weird and like raspberry leaf tea.

good to hear from you again elkie

the BEST bath stuff for both getting off to sleep/relaxing now and after is the mothers one from Neals yard. Not cheap but solll wonderful. Got it as a pressie last time round and bought it myself for this pregnancy. its heaven.

I've just had my first antenatal class this time round and I have to say, if you want to read about childbirth at all, definitely get the Ina May's guide to childbirth.. it is so empowering and only the birth stories can be a bit much, the rest is plain good sense. Also, once again recommend the baby whisperer for afterwards if only for the page on recognising what the babies cries mean (or photocopy the page from the library book!)

stripeywoollenhat · 20/11/2008 21:50

LenniEd - that must have been really alarming for you, hope it settles down and you get a good night's sleep. thanks for the info re the monitor, that's not the impression i got from the midwife but i think i was slightly zoned out by horror so maybe i missed the qualification.

fourlittlefeet · 20/11/2008 22:03

sorry Lenni, meant to say hope its all ok for you now and that the rest helps. Just so surprised someone else has had it too!
