Hi everybody, haven't been on here for ages and ages; can't believe how quickly it is all going. Still haven't finished getting the baby's room ready - dh is assembling the cot next w/end - or packed my hospital bag or done a million other things, both Christmas- and baby-related; and feel HUGE; and am getting a cold; and having work problems; and can't sleep; but I know that all the worries will melt away and seem unimportant once the baby is born .

Moosemama - just wanted to say that both my dcs were in breech position until very late;both times I was told, adamantly, that I would have to have a cs; both times I did those exercises where you put your shoulders on the ground and bottom in the air - I would stay like that literally for ages, reading a magazine that I would position in front of me on the floor; not at all dignified; but it did actually work; I could actually feel the moment when they flipped to head-down. So I really recommend giving it a go. Will be thinking of you

moosemama there is plenty of breech vaginal births that have gone fine. i think for the most part though medical advice is to do a c-section because it is easier for booking and on medical staff (and yourself) to have it planned than the wait and see approach. if you have a midwife, (like mine) that is confident in delivering breech and you also are ok with it, in that you are realistic and may need to rush off to the hospital, then i say go for it. i would. my midwife says that you as the mother will know long before anyone if it doesn't seem to be going well.

qumps · 06/12/2008 20:04

well my turn to be grumpy. only on line as i have just ordered a pizza and so fed up needed to off load.
dh away all last week in dubai, then out with work mon, tues, wed night. thurs he stayed up late working and fri we had ds parents eve. so today he says lets order pizza and sit on sofa watching x factor and then after rugby decides to stay and have a few drinks. makes out he has to as its expected as he hasn't done so for ages and he is really tired ect but i am v annoyed at hvaing yet another night sat in on my own on the sofa. he has rung twice and texted and so knows i am not happy despite the fact that i have said i am fine. well we all know what that means! we are having a day together tomorrow so am i being unreasonable? just feel an 8 month pregnant wife is reason enough not to go out. also thought i was going into labour last night as had very bad bh and backache. didn't ease till about 4am and i got up with ds at 630 to give dh a lie in.
sorry prob hormones but i am feeling a bit teary. i suppose you don't get the love second time round.....

LenniEd · 06/12/2008 20:25

Qumps - I can sympathise entirely. Had a morning of tears cos of exactly the same sort of scenario. Certainly don't get looked after like you do with your first, and so much harder when there is another child around as you just don't get any rest.

I've been having painful contractions on and off all day. Baby has dropped right down and is pressing very painfully against my pubic bone now. I'm wondering whether he'll come early (DD was on time but she was back to back and I had 10 days of pre-labour so she would prob have been early otherwise) or if I'll be stuck with baby wedged in my pelvis for weeks yet. Thank goodness that is the end of the heartburn for a while though - so much for second babies not engaging

Periwink · 06/12/2008 22:12

Well my facial turned out to be an epic event consisting of facial , leg and back massage - I fell asleep it was heaven! Walked back home feeling like I was floating on air and my DH said for me to come into the lounge as he had positioned the christmas tree for me ready to decorate .... and all my friends were in the lounge waiting for me to get back for my surprise baby shower - I was so shocked I burst into tears, baby and I have been spolt rotten, so DH was in on the surprise and the beauty treatments were a ploy to get me out and away from the house - I am not complaining, had a geat day and ate so much cake!

Periwink · 06/12/2008 22:13

Sorry I did not mean to gloat just have been feeling very low the past week and today has completely perked me up - just what I needed!

MissHairspray · 06/12/2008 22:26

Evening ladies
Periwink I am jealous but not in nasty way! Good for you having such a lovely day. I wanted to put tree up too but looks as though we only have 2/3rds of our fake one - no idea where the rest is but going to have to find another one tomorrow.

Sorry if anyone has already mentioned this, but figleaves.com have a sale on at the moment and there are loads of nice-looking nursing bras with good discounts. I'm going to get myself measured at m&s first and then buy a couple so I can feel half decent after the birth.

I was getting all nostalgic today and thinking about when I first joined this group back in May and it seemed like I would never make it to 12 weeks let alone 35! I can't wait to see what our new baby will look like, but i'm also petrified about how much our lives are going to change. I know it will all be worth it but it is so difficult to get my head around the fact we are soon going to be parents.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend all

LenniEd · 07/12/2008 07:45

Sounds lovely Periwink, good for your DH too, glad you had a good day.

MissH - sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep and have fun. Best preparation in the world for being new parents. And you'll be absolutely fine - plus you'll always have MN to help you out. Much better than all the HVs in the world combined - now that's a terrible thought Oooo, how I'm going to love seeing them again [ironic emoticon]

DD up at 5.50am - not sure I like this new early morning regime!

fourlittlefeet · 07/12/2008 10:09

morning all, sounds lovely peri, very jealous!

DP is trying to help here, but its so difficult. DD just wants me . So nights are a bit of nightmare with me unable to sleep, then just when I'm dropping off its the old 'mummy, mummy' how does she KNOW? Anyway, last night I insisted DP go into her room and they sleep on the sofabed there so did get some rest.

Bump is still high so can't breathe/eat very much at the moment. Bodes well for my expanding arse, but not for the energy levels. Speaking of expanding arses, I actually managed to rip my trousers in public this week . However, I know that fatties have an easier time with the breast milk production so will rest content with that!

Off to get a christmas tree today methinks...we shall see... hope you all enjoy the sunshine!

newmomma · 07/12/2008 10:30

qumps i don't think you're being unreasonable.
i hope you're feeling happier today and get some tlc.

peri you LUCKY girl - what a lovely surprise - perhaps I'll show this thread to my dh and see if he gets the hint...

i have been worried the last few days that my baby is breech so some of the advice on here may be useful. the baby has always kicked in the same place (under right boob) and a few weeks ago my doc said he was in the right position (head down) and the kicking i could feel were feet. it all seems to have changed and what used to be feet now feels like a head. and he's really uncomfortable... does this sound like he may be breech to you experienced mums out there?

tinkisahugexmaspudding · 07/12/2008 19:11

periwink - how lovely facials etc must have been great and baby shower a wonderful suprise

Evening,

LenniEd my baby is pressing on my pubic bone too. When i walk anywhere it hurts and feels like the babys head is gonna fall out!

qumps for you. Men can be so insensitive can't they.

LenniEd · 07/12/2008 21:08

MsSparkle - are you getting cramps like early labour pains from it? I'm not sure if the pains I'm getting are caused by a combination of BH and the head pressing down, or if it is the SPD or if it is pre-labour pains. I had a few days of pre-labour with DD (well a week really) and this really feels like that. Like period pain combined with that kind of searing type pain up my back and tightenings. If it were my first I'd go and get checked out but it only comes on at night and I can't really justify getting DD out of bed, disturbing PIL and trekking an hour to the hospital for cramping and backache, no matter how regular the cramps are.

Plus until I go into full blown labour I don't want to go into hosp since it will condemn me to weeks of MIL ringing every hour to "check I'm ok" .

Got mw on tues (finally) so will ask then if carries on, but this will be third night in a row now so starting to get a bit worried. Bubs needs another 2 weeks really.

missjackson · 07/12/2008 21:43

Too knackered to catch up with all the posts, but as usual seems like a busy weekend here on the thread - periwink your shower sounds lovely, how sweet of your friends; LenniEd hope you're not actually in labour! Someone's got to be first though...

Spent all day at the active birth centre in Highgate doing a workshop with OH - this is instead of regular classes etc, so I hope it's enough - gave me a lot of confidence actually as OH was brilliant (I was slightly worried he would just take the piss and not take it seriously, you know how boys can be!). Last night we made the mistake of watching some birth videos on youtube, which totally freaked me out, but someone said today that women in labour often sound like they are dying/ in tortured agony but that this is all normal!

Also wanted to say that we braved woolworths yesterday for all the discounts, and got some good stuff for our new house - nothing exciting but boring essentials like tea-towels -- it was CRAZY in there, with long queues!

Baby is apparently ROA so need to get off the sofa and do some swaying of hips!

MsSparkle · 07/12/2008 22:09

LenniEd i'm not sure what early labour pains feel like because i was induced with dd and went from 0 - agony very quickly. But it feels like the baby is pushing right down, sort of crampy, but only for a few seconds.

qumps · 07/12/2008 22:54

had a lovely day today so feeling much better. told dh he has not been good and he did apologise but said he is finding it tough with the new job. anyway had some quality time alone and amazing what a difference it makes. thanks for the support ladies.
put tree up with ds and dh this morning. chaos and baubles everywhere. he just said star about a million times and ran around very excited. ds liked it too!
i have been getting pains since friday but only in the afternoon until bed time. presuming they are bh. have check up tomorrow so will mention then.
saw dh lil bro today and he said what are you getting for christmas and i said maybe a baby. he said sounds like a rubbish present and wouldn't i rather have a computer game??!!!

chefswife · 07/12/2008 23:11

my turnip is definitely pushing down on my pelvis. i have to admit, i've had two coughing bouts that resulted in me peeing myself, once publicly. very dignified. at least i was wearing black cords. DH showed sympathy but included a giggle at situation... which i suppose we should laugh a little more at ourselves. i'd like to think it normalizes all the weirdness of being pregnant.

we are off to vancouver tomorrow to top off with bits we need for the flat. can't seem to find what we need... want rather... on the island so a day trip to ikea is in order. it costs much less to go over than to have things shipped... go figure.

my hot milk nursing bras came! they are so fabulous. ladies, get yourself measured and order these. they feel so sexy. i think blooming marvelous has them in store. now i just need a couple of nighties... haven't worn anything to bed since i was a kid. i always sleep naked so this will be interesting.

and i'm still sick. made it through the night last night without coughing, but somehow made up for it once i got up. actually, i'm off to take a nap.

chefswife · 07/12/2008 23:14

qumps your DH said star about a million times and ran around very excited (?)... very funny.

Periwink · 08/12/2008 09:15

Thanks ladies ....... (MissJ, MissH, Lenni, Tink, Givethedog... sorry to leave anyone out)

MissHairspray Thanks for the Figleaves sale info will check ut the website this afternoon for the maternity bras.

MissJackson The Active Birth Centre is great - I have pregnancy reflexology there, there are also so many courses and workshops for new mothers there.

Still sleeping painfully bad .... and apparently when I am sleeping I am snoring, how attractive!

fourlittlefeet · 08/12/2008 09:45

morning all! tree is up and decorated. gtdab I did my trousers whilst crouching down to pick up DD, they'd seen me through my last pregnancy and had evidently had enough .

Lenni, very excited that you may be the first to pop.... watching this space and baking biscuits just in case..

fourlittlefeet · 08/12/2008 09:55

!!!!TMI ALERT!!!!! Do not eat whilst reading this!

Ok, this is now freaking me out. I've had to use a pad now as I keep getting 'gushes' of thin white discharge. A bit like sometimes when you get out of the bath and a few minutes later retained water makes an appearance. Has anyone else had this? Is it normal? It feels like I'm weeing myself, but its definitely not wee. .

largeginandtonic · 08/12/2008 10:06

Hehe tis normal. I am getting it too Lovely isnt it?
