hi ladies thought i would be organised and start a new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
HeathersMummy · 28/11/2008 16:28

Yep, bag all packed . Tried to limit the amount of stuff in at after some comments from the midwives first time around - I don't "do" packing light .
DD and I having a lovely relaxing day today, DH is off at a sportsmans lunch - working apparently - so we've got the place to ourselves til late on tonight...lovely .

MsSparkle · 28/11/2008 16:28

Also, i can't remember if you use wipes on a newborn? I remember with dd taking cotton wool to hospital with me but can't remember about wipes?

tinkisahugexmaspudding · 28/11/2008 16:38

ms sparkle it is better 2 have 2 bags one for all your bits bras, chocolate, breast pads etc have these in a big adidas sports bag and then a rucksack for all the babys bits abit more orgnazed then. i found it better that way with dd.
used cotton wool with dd hated it so going for wipes straight away this time have bought huggies pure ones
nighties wise i have got ones that have buttons down the front regarding breast feeding. i am not bf this time around though anyway have decided not too

MsSparkle · 28/11/2008 16:40

If you decide not to bf, do the hospital give you formuler or do you just go home straight away?

tinkisahugexmaspudding · 28/11/2008 16:49

i am taking a box of formula and bottles in with me as not sure must spk to midwife about this as am hoping to give birth in birthing centre.
mainly taking my own bits in as i am sure they will have formula and bottles but dont know what brand they would have of each.

MissHairspray · 28/11/2008 16:49

I have a yummy mummy changing bag too, totally frivolous but I love it. My parents bought it for me as a birthday gift and got dh a more manly looking black skiphop one for his birthday pressie.

I thought heartburn was when you get acid reflux - or is that something different? Either way i've been getting horrible acid and knocking back the gaviscon too.

Thanks for the advice on Tens I think I will definitely get one, am going to the local MLU with no epidurals so want all the help I can get.

Babs was moving aroudn so violently last night I actually thought I was going to throw up. Better than him not moving I know but it is starting to get v. uncomfortable.

Sorry you have to restrict your diet heathersumummy that must be so rubbish. It is bad enough having to give up everything else let alone chocolate and cakes.

I am from Tyne and Wear so a northerner too

hkz · 28/11/2008 18:31

Wow....I feel completely disorganised...hadn't even thought about hospital bag...can't remember what I packed last time either, probably lots of useless things I didn't need, I'm terrible at packing.Hopefully am having a homebirth this time, so will only need the bag in an emergency.

MsSparkle...think it depends on your hospital as to whether they give you formula or not...at my local they were very clear about parents having to supply thier own which I thought was a bit extreme!

Hi everyone - I've only managed to read the last few posts as there's so much to catch up on.

Very happy today as was my last day at work -I handed back my blackberry and am now officially on mat leave. Not having to get the tube next week will be bliss although in the last couple of weeks I've got more stroppy and just asked for a seat if noone would offer (which happened most days!)

I'm very impressed you are all so organised - I now have a list of things to do next week - pack bag, sort out baby's room, hire tens machine (had one for both of mine and found it invaluable especially for the several hours of irregular contractions I had with ds)

Am looking forward to being a lady of leisure at least for a couple of weeks, catching up with friends and sleeping

missjackson · 29/11/2008 00:44

Hi all - just got back from heavenly relaxing "babymoon" as we liked to call it -- and our wedding was truly lovely. Just family, and very low key, but it was so great to spend time with everyone there and we both agreed it was just the kind of wedding we would have chosen even if I wasn't 7 months pregnant! I choked up at the start of the ceremony and couldn't get my name out, which got a laugh!

Anyway, haven't had time to catch up on all your news, but am adding myself to the list:

tink-32 weeks - only 8 weeks to go
Gin- 32 weeks - 8 left!
Ray- 31 weeks - 7 to go!
HeathersMummy - 34 weeks - 6 left to go!
stripeywoollenhat - 32 weeks - 8 to go! gulp!
MissJackson - 33 weeks, 7 to go.

I think that's right anyway. I was looking forward to finally relaxing, but we are moving in 2 weeks time having found perfect cottage, and somehow I have to do my tax return (YUCK) as well as pack up my life in London and catch up with lots of friends, all in in a fortnight! Haven't even THOUGHT about packing a hospital bag.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend x

MissJ glad the wedding went well! It sounds fabulous you can relax in to pregnancy and the baby will be here before you know it!

Kitten it must be a huge relief to give up work, rest and rest some more. Really make the most of these last few weeks, you never get them back!!

Moose straight back to the cellar for the kiddies then

Some of the older children have fallen foul of the dreaded D&V now. I have one of the twins and dd looking pasty. Arg will it every end...

We bought the baby car seat yesterday (Tink are you noting this) we picked two and let ds#5 chose in the end as we couldnt decide. He chose here It plays music and all sorts! We had a Britax first class for the last baby and he is still in it!

Must go and make the well ones lunch...

Hi Ladies,

Have not posted for ages, hope you don't mind me dipping back in. Was just reading the last couple of pages of posts and all the talk of chips had me in a tizzy. Ended up grabbing some precious potato scones and bacon from the freezer - I'm from Glasgow but live in Atlanta, so my potato scones are normally reserved for emergency homesick days only!! A wispa sounds good too, but there is no chance of me finding one of those. Curious about the TENS machine...what is it? I'm 34 weeks today and starting to get a bit unsure about the whole childbirth thing. I know at this point it is unavoidable, but I'm a wimp and not ashamed to admit it. When we went to the birth class a few weeks ago, I asked about alternative pain relief and the midwife just told me to get the epidural. I think I'll probably go for that eventually, but I don't want to be stuck in bed for the entire labour, who knows how long it could be? What else can I do that lets me get up and walk or take a bath?
Can't wait to stop work now, been off for the past 2 days for Thanksgiving and have been able to sleep at night for the first time in weeks!!! Very jealous of you kittenpaws, must be lovely to hand over that crackberry!!

tinkisahugexmaspudding · 29/11/2008 16:11

hi shanster

what is it like in atlanta?
it is my daughters name.
a tens machine is a form of pain relief you stick pads on your back it emits signals.
have just put up tree and dec must do hoovering now

moosemama · 29/11/2008 17:17

Boys have been released from the cellar are at Grandma's for the weekend - yay - lovely peaceful house! Well as peaceful as it could be with my mad mad DH walking around in a giant fluffy ski fleece and his great grandad's top hat doing diy and generally behaving like a four year old! (Rediscovered the top hat when sorting out the cupboard where we were storing all our old curtains and cushions etc.)

DS2 had a full speed collision with another little boy at school yesterday. He now has a nasty cut above his eye and a pair of completely bent out of shape glasses! Well, I did say he was the accident prone one of the family. Am now very relieved that I went to Vision Express and got a free spare pair of glasses for him this time.

Haven't got anywhere near as much done as we wanted to today, hopefully will catch up tomorrow. I do however now how a new light fitting in the lounge and will very shortly have some curtains up for the first time in weeks. Now if we could just get on with decorating our bedroom, that would be progress indeed.

Got one of Mum's friends coming next week to do a house cleanse and blessing before bubs arrives. This house has a lot of history and can feel very heavy sometimes. We did the same when we first moved in and the difference in atmosphere afterwards was tangible, but that was 6 years ago now so thought it would be nice to do it again.

Congratulations on your marriage MissJ, glad you had a lovely day.

Just got back from a natural birthing and water birthing workshop and feel a bit better prepared this time... feel much more informed than last time and am all up for trying a natural home birth... However this has caused me to start a cleaning frenzy! Have just done all the kitchen cupboards and was about to start on the skirting boards, but realised I couldn't reach as my tummy is now too huge! I never ever feel like doing any cleaning...so this must be nesting! DP is looking on in shock!
Now all I have to do is get through the next three weeks of work before maternity leave kicks in....sort out a hospital bag....dig out the baby stuff....do xmas shopping...hope that dd stops being quite so grumpy...buy some t shirts that actually stretch over my belly....do more cleaning...arghhh!
Everyone on here sounds so organised...please tell me how you do it!

Spink · 29/11/2008 20:10

hey everyone,
I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself today, had d&V bug and between running to the loo, have had lots of BHs and not a happy bump. Luckily ds was at nursery yesterday, today dh was supposed to be at an all-day stag thing and stayed home so I could take it easy. Just as well, don't know how I would've managed. It was lovely of him, but I could tell he was pretty annoyed. Anyway, he's gone now, for the evening drinking session. I reckon he'll get so pissed he'll be in bed tomorrow all day with a hangover!

I've also started to get a bit wobbly about having a homebirth. Just not feeling ready, emotionally or practically. dh and I seem to be on a totally different wavelength at the moment, always irritating each other somehow!
We were planning on a pool, but still haven't looked into it properly, and the flat just feels like a tip. It's not really, but I haven't had the chance to nest yet and feel like I need some proper time. One week left at work, so maybe once I'm home and ds is happily at nursery...

LenniEd · 29/11/2008 21:25

Spink - hope you are feeling better soon - horrible being ill when not pregnant, but sooo much worse when you are. I wouldn't write off the homebirth just yet - think many of us are feeling unprepared for the baby and the birth at the moment. I remember getting 'in the zone' when I hit about 35/36 wks last time so perhaps you'll be more focussed soon. I'm not getting on with DH as smoothly as usual either - we're both a bit agitated, think it is a hormone thing + knowing what is coming. Second time round you have no illusions do you?!

MissJackson - wedding sounds lovely

Will catch up on everything else tomorrow - got visitors.

tinkisahugexmaspudding · 29/11/2008 21:41

chefswife · 30/11/2008 02:36

what the heck! i went to bed early last night because i was tired... been a busy week. woke up this morning with a bad, bad cough and a chest that just might explode if i cough one more time. i've drunk lots of tea today. going to take a hot shower and go to bed... even though its only 6.30. sounds like there are a few of us with colds.

chefswife · 30/11/2008 02:36

tis' the season i suppose

Shanster · 30/11/2008 03:48

Hey Tink, Atlanta is nice, not where I thought I would end up but the people are mostly friendly and the weather is great compared to Glasgow (suppose you could say that about most places).

Think this baby has her head stuck under my rib cage in what I hope is an attempt to turn, its really uncomfortable!!

Suppose I must be in nesting mode too, DH told me to stop today when he found me scrubbing the corner of the shower with bleach and a toothbrush. I have a plan for when my maternity leave starts, sort out one room a day until feel like the house is sorted. Got loads of visitors coming when the wee one arrives, so am stressing about having the house ready.

Sorry for all you ladies feeling poorly, being sick and pregnant is a bit much!!!
