Hello everyone

thought i'd start the new thread since i haven't posted on the last one in a couple of days.

I'm well although my patience/tolerance/ability to smile has completely gone out of the window. I don't seem to have any patience with DD (she really is suffering) or DH. i'm moody and sulky. the only thing that seems to calm me down is a nice bath at the end of the day.

Is it all pregnancy hormones and is anyone else feeling the same!?!?!

OP posts:

Hiya cm, when you say "the office", do you mean the hospital people? Or the office where you work? Just wondering if it is an "informed" guess or a "guess" guess!!

All very quiet on the pg front here - amazingly I am not suffering reflux yet, as I had real problems with it when I was pg with dd2 especially. I drink half a pint of cold milk just before I go to bed each night and I think that might be helping. The only annoying symptom I suffer from is leg and foot cramps, which either happen when I am swimming, or when I'm (ahem) with dh...grrr bad timing or what?!

Today dh and I managed to get hold of a second hand cot for £15 and a high chair for £20, only an hour's drive away. We were very chuffed with our bargains! My mum brought me half a dozen babygros, and a moses basket sheet and blanket too, bless her, so we are stocking up on bits and pieces now.

colinsmommy · 03/05/2005 22:16

Oh, sorry, Miaou. My ultrasound was done right at the dr. office. So it was an informed ultrasound technician's interpretation of the scan results. She didn't see anything there, but didn't have a very long window of unobstructed opportunity. And the heart rate was around 145 bpm, so I guess that doesn't necessarily mean boy, does it?

Azure · 04/05/2005 08:52

Colinsmommy, I shouldn't say this really, but how annoying for you if your mum's psychic is right. Despite that, many congratulations on the baby being a girl (if they're right). Kate100 sorry to hear you've been going through a bad time - you're so unlucky. At least your physio was knowledgable and helpful, and it's been confirmed as SPD.

We went to see "The Producers" last night. Enjoyed it, but it wasn't a patch on "Mary Poppins", which we saw in January. The after-school nanny looked after DS until we got home, so it was wonderful being able to go out straight from work. Better take advantage of these things while we still have the comparatively easy situation of only one child.

Miaou · 04/05/2005 09:13

Ah, thanks for clearing that up, colinsmommy! But sorry that you didn't get a definitive answer.

josey · 04/05/2005 16:47

hi can someone remind me what was the baby bp thing where your supposed to tell if its a boy or a girl, got told the baby bp this avo so im being nosey

Twiga · 05/05/2005 16:59

Hi all, sorry not posted in a while, been feeling tired and sorry for myself. We had a lovely couple of days away down in Edinburgh and are just waiting for dh's exam result now. While we were there we ordered all our nursery furniture and pram from Mamas & Papas which is all set to arrive at the start of Aug - hopefully gives us plenty time to decorate and tidy! I now have one pair of mat jeans and they are soooo comfy - I got them from Mamas & Papas and the fit was just right - no more baggy hips - they are on the bump style with adjustable elastic and they stay up - hooray! As with a number of you my bump has suddenly popped out over the last couple of weeks, it's nice to be looking pg rather than fat!!!

Things have been a bit up and down since our time away, work has been very difficult - won't bore you with the details - and I'm currently signed off. Had a bit of a scarey appt on friday with my midwife in that my blood preasure was up, there was blood/protien in my urine and it took her nearly ten mins to locate baby's heartbeat - had just finished a shift at work where I'd had about 3 hours sleep and floor cleaner flicked in my eyes so was pretty tearful/stressed by the time I got home. She was lovely though and said to see the dr asap. Saw him today and am signed off for the next week with a view to negoitating a change of shifts with work, if not I'm to go back and he'll sign me off further. Today's urine sample was clear so friday was just one of those things, thank goodness!

I feel extra lazy reading everyones plans for mat leave, I have every intention of leaving at 29 weeks - not long now - which puts me finishing on the 15th June and officially starting mat leave on the 19th June. I'm not going back afterwards as really want to be a SAHM, with dh being a dr we really need one of us to not be working shifts. Am looking fwd to only having to negotiate round one persons time off etc although am nervous about losing my professioanl persona - but I guess there's a time for everything.

Kate100, sorry to hear that your back is still bad but glad that the physio you saw was so helpful. Belated congrats on your friends baby, I hope you've had lots of cuddles. Your ds sounds like a real cutie must have been lovely to be able to take him with you to your appt.

Colinsmommy, glad you had such a lovely break. whole MIL thing sounds stressful! Glad that you had a positive scan and got to find out the sex like yo wanted even if it's not entirely certain. On the psychic front, not very impressive, after all he/she had a 50/50 chance of getting it right!

KMS, I really hope something is sorted out for you soon, sorry to hear that you're in such pain.

Josey {{{hugs}}} re:your work situation, hope things have improved atmosphere wise - second what's been said about mat rights, stick in there! Good news about your solicitor, I'm glad you've got someone fighting our corner. Hope the cold stays away and you're feeling brighter.

Glad to hear everyone else is keeping well, long may it continue! Sorry this is so long

Azure · 06/05/2005 08:34

Twiga, sorry to hear about your scare but glad everything is alright. I don't blame you for starting maternity leave early - only another 5 or so weeks to go for you now, which must be a nice thought. I didn't know that Mamas and Papas did maternity wear, but there doesn't appear to be a shop in London anyway.

I'm starting to think about the nursery - for poor DS we merely took the computer out of the study and put his cot in. Since moving house we still haven't decorated DS's room, so it still has the tasteful wallpaper and flowery curtains that were already there - very nice, but perhaps not appropriate for a little boy. The baby's room is already decorated in child's wallpaper - a cat and mouse theme - but it is an unpleasant green shade, so we'll change it anyway. At the moment it is a bit of a junk room with, yes, the computer in it. I feel inspired to clear it out this weekend and choose decorations for both rooms.

kate100 · 06/05/2005 08:38

Twiga, I was really worried about losing my professional identity when I had DS and for a while afterwards felt as if I had to justify my desision to work part time. Now I love being with DS sooooo much I don't care what people think and wish that I could be at home with him all the time, very jealous that ou are able to do so . I'm glas that your doctor is being supportive, I really think that your work are taking the p*ss, they should be caring for you, not making it harder.

My back is feeling a little bit better, but I was in agony after the physio on Tuesday and she hardly did anything to me, but she did warn me that it would hurt after the tests that she did. Rather worryingly my pelvis has started to click, it doesn't hurt when it does but the sound really sets my teeth on edge. Poor DH, I've taking your advice KMS, but there's so many pillows and wedges in the bed now there's hardly any room or him!

DS is at nursery today, so now I've dropped him off I can rest all day, I hope it helps.

Twiga · 06/05/2005 09:58

Azure, here's a link for the mat wear part of their site, even if you don't have a shop near you , you can order on-line Mamas&Papas . You're right, can't wait to start on my mat leave, still have A/L to take so hoping will be able to leave a few days sooner. We've got a tonne of decorating to do too, baby's room just needs a change of paint and curtains so will be the easiest. Room is currently a spare/guest room with sofa bed so we bought living room furniture for it which will go downstairs, but living room badly in need of up-date (yuky chip-board paper etc - like it when we moved in) and our room could do with some tlc too - not the end of the world if not all done by aug though.

Kate100, I don't know if this would help but the physio who took our early ante-natal class on pelvic floors and posture suggested rubbing ice cubes on aching back/pevis either directly to numb or crushed in a bag and applied that way, as one way off helping if anyone was having pain in tht area.

Twiga · 06/05/2005 10:02

Actually, this link might be more helpful, as it doesn't look like you can order the whole range on-line on-line Mamas&Papas

Azure · 06/05/2005 10:30

Twiga - thank for the link. I'll have a browse at lunchtime. Sounds like you're going to have a very busy time decorating!

KMS · 06/05/2005 21:56

Kate100 - yes mine "cracks" too and is so loud! DH has been woken by the sound when I am turning over at night. I am enjoying all my pillows this week as DH is on nights, so I have the bed to myself Will be a different story next week though. Really pleased that things are feeling a little better.

Azure · 09/05/2005 10:26

It's certainly been quiet over the weekend on this thread. The great excitement for me was finally buying a piano, an overdue birthday present from DH to me. It gets delivered on Friday. I'm not a very good player but I haven't had anything to play on for about 15 years. DS was very excited. I managed to start clearing out the room that will be the nursery. All of DS's old clothes are now in storage boxes in the loft, arranged by age. I can't believe how many we had and shudder to think of what it cost (and I'm certainly not extravagant). Thank goodness #2 is a boy as well and the clothes can be used again. I also had to buy yet more maternity bras - the ones I bought a month ago are now too small. I don't remember getting so large when pregnant before - afterwards when breast-feeding was another story, when I went to a 38D from my pre-pregnancy size of 34A. I'm at 38B aready now - it seems to be my rib cage that is expanding more than my cup size. I hope everyone else is fine.

josey · 09/05/2005 10:54

I had a very quiet weekend still got this horrible cold
I have been suffering nose bleeds as well (sorry if this sounds disgusting) but i must have had one in my sleep the other night and i was lying on my back i woke up choking and sprayed blood everywhere what a fright i got.
I got so fed up at 4am this morning with caughing that I had the smallest amount of DS caugh mixture and now i feel so quilty.
DH cousin had another little girl on Friday night 2 hour labour and home Sat afternoon, lucky girl.
Anyway hope everyone had a better weekend

Rochwen · 09/05/2005 16:26

Hello,

I'm a realitive newbie here and I'm really enjoying this site.

Just to say that I'm due in August as well - 12th according to mw, 4th according to 12 week scan. It's my first and it looks like we'll be having a wee girl, just like I hoped. I find the whole pregnancy experience very fascinating and sofar (touch wood) I haven't experienced any major discomforts (totally terrified of the birth though).

I can't wait to meet my wee girl !

Regards,

Rochwen

kate100 · 09/05/2005 17:29

Hi all, welcome Rochwen and congratulations on your pregnancy. What do you think the date you're due is? You're probably the one who is right.

Josey!! I'm not surprised that you had a fright, I'd have been terrified. Don't worry aboout the cough mixture, I'm sure a tiny amount will be OK.

My appointment at the hospital has been moved forward and I'm going to see the Orthopaedic consultant tomorrow. The physio thinks that he will refer me to the obstetrician so that he can look at me as well. I'm not very happy about that as I'm sure he will try and interfere and I don't want that. I just want my baby to come out when it's good and ready in it's own way. A caesarean is fine for some, but I can't imagine it for myself. Anyway, we'll see.

Had a mortified mother moment today, DS was having his picture taken at playgroup and was playing with the photographers toys, When it was time to leave, OMG, the tantrum. I eventually managed to get him out the door, where he promptly sat in a big muddy puddle and screamed for 'lala and po' for all he was worth. I had to pick him up, not great for my back and wrestle him back in to the car. A great day all round,

colinsmommy · 09/05/2005 18:56

Hi all. Big welcome to Rochwen.

Josey, I totally agree with Kate. I didn't have the scare you had, but was couging so hard when I was sick, I was breaking the blood vessels in my eyes, so I gave in and had some cough syrup. Not going to worry about taking it, and neither should you.

Mother's day here yesterday, so we had a big family dinner with DH's relatives. I told DH he was having a girl, and he got this big dopey smile on his face for what seemed like forever. I figure I'll forget all the girl's names we were thinking of and just go straight to the point. How about naming her Daddy's Little Princess?

We were watching one of those in the womb shows that tracks a baby's development throughought pregnancy. Colin started screaming baby, baby at the TV, and then came over to my stomach and pointed and said baby, baby. We've been telling and pointing to him that "his" baby is in mommy's tummy, and maybe he actually kind of gets it.

josey · 09/05/2005 21:07

welcome rochwen

thanks for making me feel better guys, My Mum phoned tonight and didnt know who she was speaking to thought she had dialed the wrong number cause i sounded so bad - nice!!!

kate100 do you think they will want as cs because of the spd? you didnt have it or a cs with ds did you? maybe its nothing along those lines you maybe have an unusal medical team that like to work together hopeit works ok

colinsmommy happy mummys days for yesterday, i take it DH wasnt angry that you found out? Daddys little princess sounds about right, has it sunk in how stressed he will be in 16 years time my dh is already panicking about that and we dont know what we are having yet

Twiga · 09/05/2005 21:35

Hi all!

Josey, sorry to hear that you're still full of the cold. Hope the nose bleed thing has settled down, sounds scarey {{{hugs}}}.

Congratulations Rochwen and welcome !

Kate, hope the appt goes well tomorrow. Bet the cute photo's make the days muddy puddle seem worth it in the end !

Colinsmommy, belated happy mothers day! Wandered how long you'd be able to keep the baby's sex under your hat. Lovely that Colin is understanding the whole baby thing, he must be soooo excited .

Nothing much going on here, baby been very active today - mostly been bouncing around on my bladder, no accidents so far! Work continuing to out do themselves to impress - not! Should have phoned this morning to arrange a time for me to go in to discuss moving onto day shifts today, not a dicky bird. Will chase them up tomorrow, hoenstly seen better organised, faster moving snails!!!

Miaou · 09/05/2005 23:11

Hi there folks

I'm off to see the m/w tomorrow, and need to fill out my birth plan with her, which I am quite looking forward to doing as I am quite anxious about various aspects of the birth (as you may have guessed from the various threads I have started! ). I think it might get quite complicated, depending on the various scenarios I may end up with.

Rochwen - hello and welcome - you aren't from Scotland by any chance, are you?

Rochwen · 09/05/2005 23:38

'Rochwen - hello and welcome - you aren't from Scotland by any chance, are you?' I am Miaou, how did you guess?

Thank you very much for the lovely welcome, everyone !

kate100 · 10/05/2005 09:31

Colinsmommy, I think our boys are about the same age adn he understands a bit too. We went to see a friends abay at the weekend adn we told him we were going to see a baby and he said 'oh tummy!!'. We then had to explain that the baby was now on the outside!! He also hugs my tummy and says baby, but I still think it will come as a shock to them. Happy Mother's Day to you, hope you had a lovely time.

Josey, I hope it's a case of everyone wanting to stay informed, but I'm suspicious. I didn't go near an obstetricain when I had DS, not even when he was born. I just don't want people thinking they have to do something as there's a problem with me, when my baby is fine and would probably like to be left alone.

josey · 10/05/2005 10:41

Thanks for the hugs twiga
I cant believe your work are being so awful, especially with them being in the caring profession you would think they would care for there staff also!! just get your doc to keep you off.
I have no voice at all today so hoping that my phone at work doesnt ring very often, though one of my work mates has offered to answer my phone for me.
Rochwen i also wondered if you where from Scotland it was the "Wee" that gave it away for me. there are quite a few of us on the august thread
Kate100 i will keep my fingers crossed for you, thats really sweet your DS, mine is the same although he is 5 and always speaks, cuddles and kisses the baby, but i agree boy will he get a shock when he/she finaly arrives.
Miaou thats exciting about your birth plan hopefully today will put your mind at rest a bit.
oh well best back to work

Miaou · 10/05/2005 15:40

Hi there folks, just back from the midwives appt. Unfortunately my midwife is going to be off helping the health visitors for a couple of months, so it's unlikely that I'll see her much from now on. However I'm not too worried, because it will give me a chance to meet other members of the team, so I will know a few more faces before I deliver (my antenatal care is provided by my local hospital, a bit like the domino system in England, I think?). And they're all really nice people anyway.

We didn't do my birthplan in the end - I had forgotten my notes, which didn't help!!! - but I shall fill bits of it in myself and ask some more questions when I go back. I'm onto fortnighly (that's two weekly, cm ) appointments now.

While I was there I asked about a member of our aquanatal group who was due to be induced at Inverness today - she went into labour just before she set off for the hospital, so managed to have the baby at the local hospital - yeah!!! She was still there when I had my appointment, so I got to meet her gorgeous baby girl at less than 24 hours old - and I got a hold too! I know I am hormonal at the moment but bloody hell, I was absolutely knocked sideways by my feelings when I held her - and it wasn't even my baby!!!!! I couldn't bear to give her back!

Rochwen - yup, it was the "wee" that gave it away for me too - josey and me are in the highlands (but about 100 miles apart ), where are you?

colinsmommy · 10/05/2005 16:24

I am so impressed with people with a birth plan, Miaou. Even after having one child, mine is still just show up and see what happens. The only thing I know for sure is that if my labor is not longer than last time, and I am not induced, I want to go with no pain relief again.

I wasn't really planning on telling DH the sex, but he asked me 3 times after the ultrasound if I wanted to find out, and said that was ok with him, so I took it as maybe part of him did want to find out. I think maybe MIL irritated him so much too, that it kind of drove him in the direction of finding out.

Hope you had an ok day at work, Josey, and didn't have to answer the phone.
