marker.

dinkystinky · 26/11/2008 09:08

LBB, think about talking about your bowel movements as a prelude to losing your dignity totally for the real thing (I figure the more times you have to do it, the easier it has to become!)

littleboyblue · 26/11/2008 09:11

Yes, true.
Well I called the day assessment unit at hospital and told them what happened, she said if it was the onset of labour, I'd have delievered by now, so I told her with ds, these pains went on for 3 days before I went to hospital. She's told me it could be Braxton Hicks and that if it gets worse in the next few hours or I feel like I'm contractng and they get 5-6mns apart, then to call back

dinkystinky · 26/11/2008 09:31

Have a warm bath LBB - if they're BH that should help chase them away. And try and take it easy today as you must be shattered.

littleboyblue · 26/11/2008 09:35

Thanx, just about to get in bath, got a bit of housework to do but going back to bed with ds after lunch.
Sure it's nothing to worry about, thanx for help. X
Will check in at some point later today if I get everything done.

KT1983 · 26/11/2008 09:40

Morning all,

hope your ok LBB? Sounds like a nasty night you had, make sure you get some rest

nadssss · 26/11/2008 09:42

Poor you LLB ? hope you feel better. Think pregnancy is the prelude to a total loss of dignity in birth and thereafter?ahhhh

Soph ? I am booked in at St Marys Paddington which has been pretty good so far ? there is anew birth centre which is meant to be nice. But Dinky (I think you are at Paddington too) I know what you mean about the midwifes and student midwifes ? I always sit there in the chaos hoping for certain ones over others!

TinkerBellesMum · 26/11/2008 09:48

LBB, I went into pregnancy knowing it was a strong possibility having done it twice before so it wasn't much of a shock when it happened. I've been more scared though than I've let on, especially on this thread. I hope everything has settled down for you today. What a strange thing for them to say to you! Everyone's labours are different and especially when it's early it could go completely opposite directions.

laidbackinengland · 26/11/2008 10:07

Shhhh MS , I went 16 days overdue last time....which is why I plonked myself on the Feb list !

LBB hope you are feeling better ? There are lots of bugs around at the moment. DS3 has passed stomach bug to DS2 and he was up all night being sick. Poor little thing. Have had to cancel my midwife appointment for today and declare a pyjama day as I'm too sleepy to go anywhere or see anyone.

TBM you are doing so well with keeping that fifi in there. We'll all be here to support you however hard or easy things get !

dinkystinky · 26/11/2008 10:08

Nadsss - popped into the birth centre yesterday to make sure they got my referral (didnt 100% trust the original ditzy student midwife I saw to do it right) and the midwives there were lovely - and all very old hands at it. Made me feel a little more reassured about St Marys

littleboyblue · 26/11/2008 10:31

Thanx everyone, think I'm just being a bit melodramatic.
Just had a ice warm (well I was naughty and it was hot) bath and did a Soduko puzzle, so feeling better, need to get some hoovering done before ds goes to bed at 11:30, or I might do it later and forget the park...

TBM From reading your posts, you are doing a very good job of rasing above your fear. Like lbie says, we're all here for you.

I haven't seen many student midwives either time, although the first time a student asked to give me a blood test and I was really mean and said not a chance!

KT1983 · 26/11/2008 10:34

Glad your feeling a little better LBB

Ive had student midwives do my blood tests & my arm was badly bruised for two weeks - she yanked the needle around - very uncomfortable!

littleboyblue · 26/11/2008 10:37

I'm cringing just thinking about it. They make me lay down now coz the minute they talk about needles I start the even heavy breathing with my eyes closed. Must look like a right fool, bet they have a good laugh when I've left. In tears for the pain. I am so pathetic

MarkStretch · 26/11/2008 10:44

Oh yeah I had a student midwife at the hospital the other day and she took my bloods and bruised my arm badly!

When I was in labour with dd and had pushed for 90mins to no avail and was being taken down for my section, a timid student midwife (aged about 14) said to me 'Er, can you stop pushing now please?'

I said 'EEEEEEEEEEERRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I CAN'T'

Can't help feeling sorry for them though, we all have to start somewhere and they may turn into the best midwives!

OP posts:
nadssss · 26/11/2008 11:19

Really dinky ? that is great news. I must arrange my visit as I think it will be much nicer knowing the place rather than just turning up when in labour. Another thing I have to do that I haven?t done!

rosieposey · 26/11/2008 11:53

Just back from cardiac scan and all is well with babe. He is however measuring bigger ( as i thought he might ) than his gestation. His thigh bone is perfect measuring 27 weeks and 2 days (im 27 weeks and 4 days) but his head and tummy are measuring 29 weeks and 3 days so hes a couple of weeks ahead which is more than when he had his last growth scan 4 weeks ago - will go back for another one in 4 weeks but he was at the top of the centile chart this time so hopefully he wont get too far ahead growth wise and the diabetes wont get any worse.
Got to go back this afternoon too for BP series and a sample of urine as im sure i have a uti - still knackered from getting up all night and weeing poor Mr Posey looked awful this morning before he went to work as he wakes up every time i go to the loo
TBM you are being really brave about all of this but you have gotten to a pretty good gestation and hopefully Fifi will hang on for a little while longer Btw what have they said about mode of delivery for her? If she is significantly early will you have to deliver her yourself - which are they saying is best?

dinkystinky · 26/11/2008 11:58

Nadsss - apparently they will get in touch with you at 36 weeks to arrange for you to come in and have a look around and will take over your care from then on in. Just popped in as really didnt trust that student midwife to do the referral right the first time (the others have been fine - even at drawing blood).

SophStar · 26/11/2008 12:04

Hi everyone - I always have probs with having bloods taken and end up with battered arms every time - a student won't have a chance!!

Nadsss - I was born at St Mary's and I thought I turned out ok...ish ? !

Dinky - ahh the voice of experience when it comes to baby sick...should have thought of that?!

LLB - hope you're having a more relaxing day today - I aimed to allow myself a nice hottish bath last night for back pains which have started up this last week but ended up putting in way too much cold and then no hot left anyway to get it more comfy - major disappointment!

Also just gonna add myself to the list cos hadn't done this before....

You chatty bunch. I go away for a long weekend and just look at the post count. [stern face]

Hope everyone is well.

My back pain panacea is ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE. Even if you just have 2 or 3 lessons between now and the birth, it'd make a huge difference IMO. I'm having a lesson about once a fortnight, and every time my teacher helps me realign and balance myself for the new shape.

Saw my brother this weekend. He said "bloody hell, you're huge". Cheers mate. Weighed myself - have put on 2 stone since May, which is less than I feared.

And there are certainly many somersaults going on inside me - they really don't settle down to one position at this stage AFAIK!

MrsY - it is really good to see you back, lady.

onwardandoutward · 26/11/2008 12:20

PS and another vote for slings here. We bought a charity shop pram last time for £20. Really glad. We took it back after a month because it just never never got used - noone had thought to consult the baby in utero about whether they'd prefer to be held or prammed, and held was certainly the preference. Am really glad we didn't spend £100s on a travel system or any of that stuff.

And our sling history is:

WIlkinet ADORED by both parents till about 9 months, and by Dp for more like 18 months (really suited the two of them); I moved on to ring slings (have got through several second hand Huggababys, which remain my favourite) at around 4 months for various contexts.

Around 2 years, got a mei tei, which is great for that age (back carry or front carry), and a Toddlerhawk at around 3 years for back carries.

We have a battered McClaren, which had its uses from around 2 years old, but I'd always have a sling in the bottom of it so that I'd either be carrying a backpack or a child.

dinkystinky · 26/11/2008 12:24

Welcome Sorkycake (great name!).

Onward - have heard that Alexander Technique is supposed to be excellent for postural alignment - though never come across anyone who practiced it before. If the pilates loses it shine, may move over to that...

MarkStretch · 26/11/2008 12:36

I have a question.

I'm working from home today, dd is at school, DH is out at the gym.

However as I have a baby in my belly am I technically Not Alone?

(can you tell I'm bored with spreadsheets?)

OP posts:
onwardandoutward · 26/11/2008 12:42

I think pilates, body balance and yoga are different routes to a very similar end.

SophStar · 26/11/2008 12:51

Hiya Sorkycake - how you doing?
