June are you going to have a bilingual toddler, then? A three year old talking French and English always sounds soooo cute and extremely intelligent!

I'm a bit about you second trimester girls who are still suffering. My m/s shows no sign of abating, though I'm not actually throwing up as much, and I'll be 14 wks tomorrow. I guess that magic wand waving away all the sickness and tiredness might not be forthcoming...

SweetBROODY · 16/12/2008 12:51

June I really wanted one but my friend said its probably not a good idea if I worry already..

I have booked the antenatal but they arent until April.. I just hope DH gets the time off to be there..

chocciedooby · 16/12/2008 14:48

Wow ladies I am struggling to keep up with this thread these days. You are all so busy! Flynn I am also getting headaches. Not migraines but the headaches are pretty horrible.
Still have a cold but getting better
I am also feeling a bit nauseous again in the evenings. I thought it had passed
Love the warm Cranberry juice idea. Definately trying that.
DS2 is hanging off me so must fly.

dreamydowler · 16/12/2008 14:51

Hi Ladies. Flynn just a thought but could you be low in Iron Headaches and tiredness are symptoms It may be worth asking for a blood count just to be sure. Hope everyones scans are going well Im 14 weeks today and apart from being up half the night with not so darling daughter age 2 and minding both her and 14 month old granddaughter today both of whom are ill, my sickness and extreme tiredness definitely seem to be improving. Not sure if I would be coping as well as some of you who are working full time still though.

Tee2072 · 16/12/2008 16:48

So had my scan. It was wonderful. The baby waved at us! I'll scan the pics and put them up tomorrow, I haven't a scanner at home!

Than had a very serious, slightly scary conversation with the OB about Downs, since I'll be 40 when the baby is born. I have decided to do both the Triple Test and a Genetic Scan. Then I have to decide what to do from there. I am leaning towards keeping the baby no matter what. Simon is undecided right now. I am also curious how it works in NI, anyway, as terminations are illegal here.

So lots to think about!

llynnnn · 16/12/2008 16:57

hi all

Sorry I havent had chance to post for a while, been so busy! I have been popping on to see how everyone is doing then run out of time before I post! Sorry, I will try harder!

I had my 16 week app yesterday and got to hear the baby's heartbeat! It was lovely to hear as I still havent felt any movement yet, so very reassuring.

Sweetbroody - Sorry to hear about your Dad, hope he gets well really soon. Hope your scan has gone well today. I also feel more tired now than I did a few weeks ago. I am hoping its just that we are soooo busy at work and rushing around afterwards getting organised for christmas etc. looking forward to some time off

Flynn - I hope you are feeling better now and your headaches have passed

Thanks for the non-alcoholic drinks links, i'm so so so fed up with orange juice and lemonade!!

Yoshimi - how rude and thoughtless of your neighbours, unfortunately toddlers do get upset sometimes, surely everyone knows that! Its a good job they arent my nighbours, if dd wakes in the night she just shouts MUMMY at the top of her voice over and over again until we go in!!

Tee - How did your scan go? well I hope

I hope everyone else is doing well and growing nice little bumps!

llynnnn · 16/12/2008 17:00

Tee - sorry cross posts! I take far too long to post Pleased you had such a lovely scan. The triple tests and extra scans etc are very scary if you think the worst, but they will hopefully put your mind at rest for the rest of your pg. i didnt realise terminations were illegal there.

cote fingers crossed!

Genetic Scan is apparently a very detailed scan, earlier than 20 weeks. They do Nuchal fold, but also check heart and bowel and some other things. Then I can decide if I want to risk an amnio.

Cote, if you don't mind my asking, why did you decide to do an amnio? I think if my numbers were that high, I would forgo the amnio and take my changes. Especially with the risk of miscarriage from an amnio.

helpivegottogivebirth · 16/12/2008 18:50

really good luck Cote for tomorrow

Cote, I think that's just brilliant - gaining 3 languages without having to consciously learn them, just at the stage when little brains can deal with it! Multi-lingual children do tend to pick up language slower - I've got friends whose dds didn't really talk much at all until they were 2.5-3 yrs, because they were processing so much more information and sorting out which word belonged to which language, but hearing them now chatting away and writing beautifully in either Japanese or English is incredible. Each parent sticking to his/her mother tongue does seem to be the way to do it,(in this case the parents spoke each other's language too which was useful for understanding but they wanted their children to learn from a native speaker). I'm v ; teaching of languages are so neglected in the UK.

Tee2072 · 16/12/2008 18:52

strawberrysam less than ideal, but 3 more days and I'm on holiday for 2 weeks, so I am struggling through!!!

If that is what you mean by 'genetic scan', by the way, that is what we routinely get at 12 weeks - nuchal measurement, ventricles of the heart, brain, middle bit separating two sides of brain, heartbeat (for irregularities), spine, various organs, etc. All for free.

ermintrude13 · 16/12/2008 19:14

Spinal, cardiac, neurological and other detailed examination of vital organs are not always possible at 12 wks gestation, however good scans are these days - depends greatly on the position of a very small and active baby. So in the UK thse tend to take place at a later stage, when the larger and more developed baby can be viewed more easily. OF course, sonographers look out for heartbeat, stomach, liver and brain at the 12 wk stage and any possible abornmalities are followed up but the more detailed scan takes place around 20 weeks. Also all free.

flynn1984 · 16/12/2008 20:25

Hiya all

loooouise · 16/12/2008 20:36

Hi ladies, lovely news from Tee, glad you found it wonderful.
I have a slightly embarrassing symptom and am too scared to post elsewhere....does anybody else sometimes feel an ache or occasional stabbing in their - ahem- love passage? It's not so terrible it stops me doing anything, just worrying me a wee bit, particularly as I had a (very tiny) leetz procedure done in January.
Sorry to lower the tone, but if I can't ask you June girls, I don't know who I can (well, my midwife obv, I may ring her tomorrow).

loooousie oh gosh yes! Apparently completely normal! Something to do with the ligaments stretching and the extra blood flow!

loooouise · 16/12/2008 21:30

HAHA, thanks Tee!!! Remember that I am single, so may not have as much cause to enjoy the extra blood flow as you lot

Tee2072 · 16/12/2008 21:33

LOL loooouise!!!!!!!!! That's not what I meant!

MrsMcClaus · 16/12/2008 21:37

Hello girls
Hey Yoshimi glad the move went well and good to hear that all is well with the baby! I can kind of understand where you are coming from on the due date move but as you so rightly say, a later due date means avoiding induction for longer, they have moved mine forward by a week and I am a bit scared, especially as DS was 9 days overdue! what a nightmare your neighbours sound how dare they be so rude to you! I know that when DS wakes in the night he sometimes wakes the couple downstairs (I hear them going to the loo ) but they never do anything but smile at him.
Ermintrude ? I used fresh spices in the mulled cranberry ? what did you think? Like you, my biggest fear surrounding the birth is induction. Last time round I read the AIMS pamphlet on induction the night before I had a consultant?s appointment (9 days overdue) I got so upset that I got cramps and felt tearful so went to bed and woke up at 3am in labour looking back, the fact that I had an appointment that day was so good as I wore my TENS machine there and treated the appointment as a kind of ?how am I doing?? and felt really encouraged when the Consultant told me I was 4cms and to go home and relax I was back in the hospital within 3 hours, ready to push and DS was born 45 mins later here in Spain someone has to stay with you overnight in the hospital, I am glad as I really felt that DH missed out on those hours with DS the first night and I would have liked to share getting to know our son with him he will be there for our daughter though My midwife with DS (never met her before the birth either) had a lovely lilting Southern Irish accent, I think!
SweetBROODY ? how was the scan hon?
June ? your English is fabulous! Had to laugh at the ?terminations? though sorry!!
Sounds like all of us still suffering from MS are in good company ? don?t remember there being so many 2nd trimester pukers when I was pg with DS mind you, I probably ignored it as I was fit as a fiddle
Hey Choccie and Help and Flynn
Dreamy ? I feel your pain, DS was awake from 1.30am onwards last night, felt like a zombie today. Hope your DD and GD feel better soon
Tee ? really glad that the scan went well. The whole testing rollercoaster is a scary one and I was really worried about it with DS. My own opinion is that you have to decide before you start the tests how far you are prepared to go with them. Having lost a baby I wasn?t prepared to have any invasive tests and so for me, the nuchal fold scan and associated blood test was as far as I was prepared to go. Luckily, the results were good. This time I just had the nuchal fold scan and am hoping that as all looked good then it will also be good at the detailed 20 week scan.
Llynnn ? glad you got to hear the heartbeat such a lovely sound!!
Cote ? everything crossed for you for a great amnio result your DD is going to have a great start in life with 3 languages that clip keeps jamming, annoying as I wanted to see if what he had to say equated with what my Spanish Dr told me they look for to sex the baby at 12 weeks.
Strawberrysam ? nausea at the Christmas tree? Oh dear!
Loooousie ? yup, like a stabbing pain in the cervix? I think it is just the changes going on; after all, it?s not used as much as other parts of the body I guess!

loooouise · 16/12/2008 21:40

Just kidding. But glad to hear that you get those aches too. Nobody warned me that pregnancy would be such an almighty worry-athon. It just doesn't stop....
