Mhairi100 · 15/12/2008 16:56

Hi flynn, sorry to hear you're feeling rough. I've been getting tension headache - not as horrid as migraine, I know - and been pretty down lately too. I had quite bad depression as a student so it makes me a bit nervous, even though it was a long time ago. I'm sure your job situation isn't helping . I know it doesn't compare, but I have a new role (more responsibility, no more pay!) and a new boss I find very hard to get on with, and at the moment I just want to escape though I know I'm lucky to have the job and it will probably all be fine.

Having a 20 week scan date would really cheer me up, but my midwife says the local hospital are very disorganised, and not to expect a date until the New Year. I'm 20 weeks on 9 Jan, and if the notice is going to be that short, DH probably won't be able to make it

Really you are feeling better soon, both migraine and mood wise. Maybe Christmas will cheer us up?! Sorry for replying to your short 'me' message with a rather long 'me' message back , hope I've made you feel better and not worse, and not depressed the rest of you lot!

flynn1984 · 15/12/2008 17:10

Hi Mhairi

thanks for you reply! I suppose any change is going to affect any pg person right now whether it is a new job (congrats by the way) or having no job. I hope you new boss eases up!

I hope your able to get the 20 week scan sorted so your DH can join you, wish mines was in Jan, I need to wait till 4th feb even tho I'm considering asking Santa to pay for a private scan at around 16 weeks.

Roll on next Wed when I finish up for Christmas & new year holidays and hopefully that will cheer me up and i'm trying to remain positive about my job...cant talk to DH about this he would be mad if he knew exactly how I was feeling at the moment

SweetBROODY We went to Babybond in Golders Green (North London), they have several locations though see here
We were appointed at 3pm but only saw the sonographer at 4pm as there were ppl waiting. Bit of a nuisance when your bladder is full but manageable.
The sonographer had a chatty pregnant assistant and they were both nice.
The recording we took back with us (on a dvd)is around 10 minutes altogether and it lasted a little bit longer than that so I reckon the viewing was maybe just over 15 minutes. (It's still too short if you ask me to be honest, I could watch it for hours).
They were happy to answer all our questions and told us how how much the baby measures and estimated weight (9cm and 115g for us).

Dh couldn't stop himself from asking if they could tell the sex yet so she spent a little while looking but couldn't see as the baby kept moving.

I thought they were nice, they did mention their other products subtly but did not hard-sell them.

I'm always worried that the practioners are going to be foreign; as english is not my first language I have problems with understanding people with accents but they all spoke really good english there.
I'm a little worried about meeting my mw whose name sounds African, I hope I can understand her!

Overall I'm really glad we went, they gave us some pictures of the baby as well and one of them made it all worth it as it's much better than the one we got on the nhs scan.
I think I'm still not reconciling the fact that the baby on the pic/dvd is inside my belly. I insisted on taking the picture with us to bed so the baby would "feel closer"

Next NHS one is at the end of January and I'm much happier to wait for it now.

Tee2072 · 15/12/2008 17:25

Hi all

Feeling rough again myself, missed work again today.

However, tomorrow is my 12 week scan! I'll actually be 12+6, so hopefully be able to see a whole bunch!

SweetBROODY · 15/12/2008 17:26

June Do you live in North London? Golders Green is pretty close for me actually.. I'm worried they will rush us as well.. I'm going to wait and go after the 20 week scan.

Mhairi mines also 20 weeks on the 9th and I have luckily been given a scan for that date..

I guess because mines a high risk pregnancy.

June It all sounds amazing though.. could you see features and expressions?

Flynn & Mhairi I am sorry you feel so rough.. its just that time of the year as well isnt it.. and all those hormones...

Thats what everything gets blamed on.

SweetBROODY · 15/12/2008 17:28

June I know what you mean.. I feel like that whenever there is a scan.. it feels like I am just watching a TV programme or something...

I wish I could feel more especially at 16 weeks.. its just frustrating not knowing if everythings ok... I feel like we just dont get enough time with the proffesionals! I know bakc in the days it was diff the wy amy mum talks about it maternity care sounds lovely...

SweetBROODY · 15/12/2008 17:34

Tee Good luck for that scan - i'm so excited for you...

June2009 · 15/12/2008 17:56

SweetBROODY yeah I live near Enfield.
I do think that if you can wait it'll be more worth it. I'm just 15 weeks and we couldn't see expressions yet.

I've got some pics here and here

(I hope these links work for you too.)

SweetBROODY · 15/12/2008 18:01

June Wow they are fab.... Mines on my profile that was at 12 weeks...

I live In Barnet.. Does that mean your booking was at Chase Farm? Or are they still closing that one?

June2009 · 15/12/2008 18:08

SweetBROODY ah ah, yes they've been talking about closing it for ages, I don't know wether it's going ahead or not, just hoping not before June whatever happens!

I've actually seen the
"ridgeway centre" at chase farm which is run by midwives and I'd like to go there, though not booked yet. Where are you going?

SweetBROODY · 15/12/2008 18:11

Mines at Barnet General Consultant led.. so havent had much choice... First baby so I am going to let them lead the way..

Whats your first language June? Is it quite tough understanding the terminology? or are you finding it better now?

MrsMcClaus · 15/12/2008 21:53

Hey ladies I had my folks round on Sat night for dinner and made mulled cranberry (basically followed mulled wine recipe but swooped the wine for cranberry juice) it tasted really good and I had to swear to my Dad that it didn?t have booze in it because he didn?t believe me

Ah June glad you enjoyed the Babybond experience

Tee and SweetBROODY all the best for the scans tomorrow my next one is Thurs and I am glad as keep getting paranoid that there is nothing going on in there

Sorry to hear about your Dad SweetBROODY hope he makes a speedy and full recovery.

Stawberrysam ? so glad to hear that all your friend and family are pleased about your news, its such a special time

Flynn ? sorry about the migraines, they are horrible

Hi Mhairi

spongecake · 15/12/2008 22:36

june2009, we move 6 jan. am slowly coming out of denial at least your midwife talks to you- mine can't even return calls. have called new docs and left message with new mdwife, but she hasn;t called back either... am really hoping its just a blip. don;t think i can stand another shambles.

sorry for the migraine flynn, did you get them before prgncy?

gosh its late, better go

yoshimi · 16/12/2008 10:08

Hello all

sorry I have been absent for so long, just sorting ourselves out after the move and dragging myself to work in the mornings!

Had my scan last week and they put my due date back by nine days! So am now due 17th June. Feels like I now have longer to go psychologically although nothing has really changed- at least I'll be less likely to be induced.

I wish I had more energy but at least the MS is wearing off, one day soon I might be able to drink tea and coffee again.... still stuff to do round the house but I'm not motivated to do anything other than sit in front of the fire in the evenings and go to bed early- hence no MN time. So am sneakily posting from work.

Felling a bit down as our new neighbours have complained several times about the noise DS (20 months) makes- since we've moved him into his new room he's been waking at night and his room backs onto theirs. He barely cires though and is just a normal toddler, I feel quite upset that they have been so grumpy and unfriendly about it. They suggested we take him downstairs if he wakes up so he doesn't disturb them! How's he supposed to go back to sleep then? grr. Sorry for the rant.

Hope everyone is well and starting to enter the haven of the second trimester

xx

You North London girls, is the Edgeware Birth Centre still going? That's where I had my dd 10 yrs ago, in a lovely warm pool in an ensuite room where dh could sleep too, and the midwives were all delightful. It was an early birth centre experiment and such a lovely halfway house between home and hospital. There was nothing like that when we moved to S London so I had ds at home, and will try to do the same again this time.

Yoshimi, my due date was moved BACK to 17 June, and although I was pleased at the notion I was 3 days further on that I'd thought, I realise that it makes the threat of induction - my worse fear - a bit stronger. Both mine were late, with ds I had a horribly painful but effective cervical sweep at 41wks+2 and he was born the next day, phew! Would rather not go thru that again tho.

How grumpy are those neighbours? It's not like you're banging on the wall or playing music for hours on end. Try not to rise to it - I'd be tempted to tell them to MTOB about where you take your own baby when he crie! Tsk!

MrsMc mulled cranberry sounds inspired! I must try it this very night. Did you use fresh spices or a mulling teabag? My dh had 2 half pints of it in a pub at the company do and I've been jealous ever since.

SweetBROODY · 16/12/2008 10:51

Tee How was your scan love#?

June2009 · 16/12/2008 11:11

StrawberrySam thanks for the links, I didn't even know you could get alcohol-free wine!! I'm gonna have a look today, I'm all for cutting the amout of work I have to do for New Year's Eve so if I can just open a bottle instead of making the drink myself that's great

ermintrude13 yes it's still around. the only reason I'm thinking of the ridgeway instead is that if there are any complications they literally just have to take you downstairs.

SweetBROODY I'm french, been in Britain for around 12/13 years now so I actually know the terminations better in english than in french, not having had a baby in France iyswim (same goes for mortgages!) I only struggle with people with strong accents.

Myneaux Got anything planned for your bday tomorrow apart from your work party?
Dh's been asking me what I want to do and I keep changing my mind.

ermintrude13 · 16/12/2008 11:23

June, 2 of the women from my NCT group had to be transferred from Edgeware birth centre after the birth (because of complications with the babes; the labours went well) but in both cases the ambulance was there in an instant and they and babies were absolutely fine. But having the medical bit very nearby is absolutely ideal; I think all hosps should have a midwife-led birth centre which everyone goes to unless they require inductions, caesareans, epidurals etc, and from which transfers to obstetrics can be instant in the event of complications.

Never guessed you were not a native English speaker - wish my French was that fluent! (although I think you meant 'terminology' rather than 'termination' ). If you're lucky your midwife with the African-sounding name might be from a French-speaking country so you can converse in an exotic creole! As it happened, for both my births I had midwives I'd never met, and both were Jamaican and spoke very soothingly and wisely; it hardly mattered what they were saying, they just sounded so calm it was like listening to music and made me very relaxed. I wonder if I'd had someone talking in a very strong guttural accent like German or Polish I'd have got jumpy. I bet someone's done some research into that...

flynn1984 · 16/12/2008 11:46

Today I managed to drag myself into work, wish I didn't as been sick again and headache is killing me...I'm now starting to think it's a very bad tension headache as I'm worrying too much. At least work confirmed it will be the end of January I finish and not the beginning which has helped slightly. Here's hoping I can see through to 4pm when I finish today (thank god for flexitime)
Thought people said the second trimester gets better?! Since I entered second trimester i've been tired more and ms has came back after 2 weeks of being away

StrawberrySam Thanks for the link for the alcohol free drink think I'll be ordering a couple of bottles of the rose wine for Christams

Tee let us know how you get on today with your scan at 12+6 you should see a lot. My scan I was 12+4 and you could make out the whole face, feet and hands of the baby and it wouldn't stop wriggling around

Yoshimi good to hear from you again!

mrsmcclaus mulled cranberry sounds nice (even tho I'm not a fan of cranberry juice)

SweetBROODY · 16/12/2008 12:12

June Am sure you'll be fine! have you found any pregnancy Yoga groups in North London?

SweetBROODY · 16/12/2008 12:13

flynn I'm feeling just as rough as you - I guess everyones diff.. 2nd Trimester joy hasnt happened for me yet either.. in fact i'm more tired then I was last trimester.. I just hope it doesnt mean anythings wrong... I hope you feel better soon sweetheart..

SweetBROODY · 16/12/2008 12:17

MrsMcClaus Thank you! :S I hope it goes ok too... its like time has slowed down since this morning.. i wish I could just go now... and get it over and done with.. :S

June2009 · 16/12/2008 12:23

flynn I'm constantly tired too even though 15w now

Did any of you book their antenatal classes already? I haven;t looked at them yet bit worried at times that the classes may well already be booked in advance and full!

And have any of you bought a doppler? Kinda tempted maybe, as a xmas present

June2009 · 16/12/2008 12:27

ermintrude13 yeah that would be "terminology" :D (same word in french actually, I put it down to a typo ;)

nb: my dad and brother find having conversations with me very entertaining as this type of thing happens a lot in french too (I am educated LOL, just getting mixed up with both languages on some words that are kind of similar...)
