Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
brunettemum · 10/12/2008 22:36

Hello - have plucked up the courage to join you. After a mmc last year, and taking so long to conceive again, I have been absolutely paranoid this time - StrawberrySam... you won't be the only worrier with me around. I completely understand - I would be the same as you; it must be so scary. The only comfort I can give is that my best friend had exactly this for both her pregnancies (for apparently no reason) and both ended up fine... in fact she just had her baby boy on Monday

I am 12+1, due 23rd June. Had scan yesterday, and all seemed well - baby was jumping around like a mad thing and DS results good. Phew.

Have DD (2.8); feel very different this pregnancy so am convinced I am carrying a boy this time!

Feeling worried again today though - am suffering with a horrible D&V bug, including high temp which I am trying to keep under control with paracetamol; but know that temp can be harmful to baby. Trying not to worry

Sorry my first post is such a 'me post' - hope to catch up better soon.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 11/12/2008 08:09

Hi brunettemum so pleased that this pregnancy is going well and that your scan was good.

Sorry to hear about your blood sugar being all over the place Tee what a pain. What with all the other bloody pregnancy stuff to deal with, you could do without that.

Had my first SPD / PGP assessment with the physio yesterday and it was great. I do have to wear the bloody belt from now until June as it's so horrid and you have to wear it over your clothes so I look really attractive (not!) Not too bad in the winter because I can wear a coat over it, but shitty in the summer.... oh well. If it means I avoid crutches and a wheelchair this time round it's worth it. I'm having the pains a lot now. On the plus side, I'm not allowed to do supermarket shopping and ironing or hoovering... result!

Welcome brunettemum. Glad this pregnancy is going well for you!

Ineed yeah, its just one more thing to fret about! Are my glucose levels hurting the baby! (I know they're not, its really high sugar over weeks and weeks that causing birth defects, but still fret!!)

Oh and the belt sounds lovely! What about cleaning the bathrooms? I'd bet you shouldn't do that either!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 11/12/2008 10:30

Good plan Tee I'll have to tell DH that cleaning the toilet is off the list until at least August.......

hi everyone
just to say thanks for all the good wishes and helpful advice over the last couple of days - i think it was a bug i had in the end. am feeling better today so have gone back to work. also there is no more blood - thank god - but the midwife said to expect it again as it can and does happen, though it is not necessarily a sign of bad things. just par for the course. the plus side is i got to have 2 scans in two days to see my little baby and it is gorgeous. i'm 14.3 weeks and i love it already. it's actually quite scary.
xxx

dreamydowler · 11/12/2008 13:33

Hi all and welcome brunette mum. I seem to be feeling much better today (she says in whispers so as not to tempt fate) I have to go for a gtt (glucose tolerence test) later in this pregnancy as Im a little on the large side and have had tendencies towards diabetes in the last 4 pregnancies thankfuly I have never developed it but the sickly drink they give you is disgusting enough yeuch House is looking very festive and cant believe its just 2 weeks today until xmas still havent wrapped any presents yet and have a lot of cleaning especially in the younger girls room which looks like a bomb site. Is everyone else ready for xmas?

So glad you are feeling much better helpive
Has anyone heard from tink hope she is ok poor thing

Tee2072 · 11/12/2008 13:57

dreamy I haven't bought a single present for anyone who lives in this country. My US relatives are all done, though! They were easy, the internet wrapped them for me and everything!

That's my plan for this weekend!

June2009 · 11/12/2008 15:02

dreamydowler oh dear it is only 2 weeks to xmas!

We've been debating all day wether to get a tree today and wether it'll still look nice and have any needles left by xmas day.
I haven't sent any xmas cards out yet, they might have to be "New Year's" cards now....

I'm really looking forward to a break from work, I've found it hard to cope with everything the last three months, worrying about getting stressed and all that.

We're having xmas and new years at ours this year. Xmas with my dad and bro travelling from France and Fil, Bil and Sil.
Mil is not invited for fear of causing stress. She can be nice but switches unpredictably and then turns into a hysteric monster and I really don't want drama.

New years is with our closest friends, we're planning to set off some fireworks.

Any idea for festive non-alcoholic cocktails? I've been having Shloer when everybody else is sipping champagne but was thinking of making something a bit more special.

flynn1984 · 11/12/2008 15:58

afternoon all!

not had time to catch up on the posts, been very busy today at work.

Welcome brunettemum I'm sorry to hear about your mmc but glad this pregnancy is going well for you

helpive glad your feeling better

ineed hopefully the belt will work for you like you said better than wheelchair and crutches.

tee not long now till your scan only 5 days and counting!

Has anyone heard from Tink not seen her round much, hope she's ok.

a big HELLO to everyone I've forgotten (and there is a lot) and o all with scans this week and next week good luck and enjoy!

Well 2 weeks it'll be Christmas, me and DH not doing much this year, I'll prob go to my mums and he'll go to his. I just keep thinking what next yr will be like my first baby's first christmas! Same as June if anyone can recommend non-alcoholic cocktails/wine it would be appreciated fed up drinking appletizer.
I've wrapped up all my presents (the one part of christmas I love) just need to write cards out which I hate doing
suppose I better get back to work...roll on 4.45pm

ermintrude13 · 11/12/2008 16:18

I hate sweet drinks so the usual coke/ appletize etc. options don't do it for me. When i was well into 2nd trimester with previous pregnancies, and started fancying a drink, i'd have a large tonic with ice and put some angostura bitters in it - looks like pink gin fizz and you can even pretend there's actual gin in it if you try hard enough. Otherwise ginger cordial or lime with soda water. or non-alcholic Becks. Rubbish really, while everyone else is knocking back lovely big glasses of wine

bigcar · 11/12/2008 16:26

Afternoon all!

Dreamy, i'm with you on the gtt, i've got a sweet tooth but that drink really is hard to swallow! It's the waiting around between blood tests that's really boring and not that easy to arrange childcare round it all. I think most of dhs leave next year will be used to look after the older children. Oh well, it'll keep him out of trouble

I think we are fairly much sorted for christmas, we should get the decorations up at the weekend, so long as I get a chance to sort dd3s toys that are all over the front room, she has way too much already, father christmas is under orders to look for smaller presents this year We have christmas day at home with just as and the kids and then boxing day at mil and fil with dhs family (and all the ensuing arguments) so that will be fun

We found out last night that dhs gran got woolies vouchers for the kids for christmas, so he's been round to see her today to collect them and buy something on her behalf. Doesn't look like they'll still be open after christmas, one near us has already closed for good

Ds and dd2 are doing their school christmas play again tonight, we went to see them last night with mil. They are doing the 12 days of christmas, ds is one of the lords a leaping - very appropriate! Everyone seems to be feeling really festive now

Tee2072 · 11/12/2008 16:29

If anyone does come back with GD and has any questions, please feel free to ask away. I've been doing this diabetes thing for 2 years and am now on Insulin, thanks to the babe!

Glad to share my knowledge!

spongecake · 11/12/2008 20:22

flynn1984 i hate wrapping presents-keep losing scissors etc and they look awful- possibly due to recycled wrapping paper

Daisy5, i hope i meet some nice people too. at least i can go to baby groups and stuff like that, which helps.

have finally started to take head out of sand re move, eg cancelling broadband, phone, - not actually DONE anything, just thought about it

still feel yuscky, but mst be getting better as panfried ds salmon today and didn;t retch-his pasta was another story , mind.

no idea when next scan as midwife says i can't contact anyone til i move. it was to be 3 week jan, and we move the 2nd week. my mw is a bit of a tartar though, so might just ignore her and call new surgery anyway. anyone any experience of this?

ermintrude13 · 11/12/2008 20:32

I make DH wrap the presents. He's much neater than I am and that way at least he knows what 'we' have bought everyone. One year I did it all myself and as we watched the kids open theirs it was as though he was receiving all the toys; his face lit up with exactly the same expression of surprise and wonder as the DC

daisy5 · 11/12/2008 20:52

spongecake - No harm done is there. My new doctors said that I could have gone to them earlier as temporary visitors, but not sure this would apply to maternity matters. Can't be any harm calling a couple of doctor's surgeries, and the ante-natal department at one of the hospitals to find out procedure. Although, do you know which village/town you will be moving to?

snowwombat · 11/12/2008 20:54

morning girls, off for another scan this morning, still bleeding heavily but trying not to worry.

spongecake I would ring the new surgery and chat with a GP-you don't want them to get booked up for the scans and it can't hurt to get the heads up about the local service!

ineedmorechocolate good news things a little better with SPD-def no cleaning, aviod stairs and put your undies (pants) on sitting down!!

helpivegottogiveborth glad things are settling down for you.

tink hope your scan goes ok today

daisy5 no snow in Sydney but it did snow on us 4 weeks ago when we were bushwalking about 2hrs west of sydney! Summer

Hi to everyone, very impressed with all the christmas shopping being done. We have managed most of our UK family but none of the Aussies!

Lemonade, lime cordial and a splash of Agostura bitters will give you the classic lemon, lime and bitters well known to the Antipodes but ask a barman in the UK and you get a blank face! V v refreshing drink.

Hope to have good news after the scan today.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 11/12/2008 21:24

Hi all

spongecake- Contact your new surgery as you may find they appreciate it, My last pregnancy coincided with a move from HMforces care to NHS in the last few weeks, but as I want to get to know my midwife earlier they were more than happy to take me on as a temporary patient. Good luck

Not a long one again as still feeling sick as a .... i've run out of similes! but stil here and reading......

Don't think all the tiredness from the christmas stuff is helping so going to bed now. Night night x

MrsMcClaus · 11/12/2008 22:19

Hey ladies how are you all? I suddenly feel less tired I?m nearly 16 weeks so hopefully all the good stuff is just round the corner (and I am about to leave the nausea behind? )

Flynn ? fabulous that the scan went well hon isn?t it agony having to wait around for ages with a full bladder? Just finishes writing the Christmas cards, all 125 of them! Phew! It?s my DS?s 1st Christmas and he adores the tree, keeps making excited noises at it, it?s so sweet he?s 10 months old.

Tinker ? how are things with you?

Cote - I hope you are not worrying yourself sick.

Doris ? 23-24 weeks! Wow! And here?s me hoping the sickness will miraculously end at 16 weeks ? I really didn?t get any with DS. Hope you are feeling better and taking things a little easier.

Snowwombat ? so sorry to hear that you?ve had a scare, particularly around the time of Oli?s due date, that must have been really awful but so pleased to hear all is well thanks for the suggestion , it?s not that bad, I am just being a whinge if it?s like last time the sciatica will be gone in a few weeks anyway, if not, I?ll pay a visit.

Daisy ? glad the ball went well and you got some compliments would love to see the dress, post a pic! I read a book about water births last time round too, I thought it was really useful even aside from the water bit. Funny thing is I was adamant I wanted a water birth until I was in labour and then the thought of water was just annoying (which is just as well as there were no pools free!) I?m a fruit and nut case too

June ? have you tried relaxation CDs? I really got into hypno birthing with DS and I really relaxed listening to it at night, got me through the labour too (along with a TENS machine) I started a thread on non-alcoholic festive drinks and got a few good suggestions www.mumsnet.com/Talk/recipes/662825-Non-alcoholic-gluwein-mulled-wine

Dreamy ? I?m in Spain and they routinely check everyone at 38 weeks here for Strep B. The argument that they have given you about not re-testing you sounds odd, wonder if the website for the Strep B charity could help on that front? Can?t remember the web address at the mo but know that I signed their online petition last year for routine testing. Sorry to hear that some of your brood aren?t well ? particularly your poor little granddaughter! wow, is it really only 2 weeks until Christmas?? Most things done I think although I do have two Christmas cakes to bake!

Mhairi LOL are you sure it?s not ?yoga for pregnancy?? sorry for giggling! Hope it went well, sounds great!

StrawberrySam ? I am so sorry that you?ve had another bleed I hope the consultant can give you an explanation in January; it?ll still worry you if you bleed but at least you?ll know why.

Ahhh Looouise ? you sound happy and blooming hon!

Spongecake ? milky drinks are a big hit here too, how funny about the muesli! Didn?t realise your move was so soon!

Tee ? all the best for next Tues work getting any easier?

Congrats and welcome brunettemum ? great news that all is well! there are a few of us on here who have lost little ones before and so feel a bit nervous still so you are in good company

Ineedmore ? hope the belt does the trick for you

Help ? so glad you are feeling better and that all is well

Ermintrude ? I drank ?virgin? G&Ts throughout my last pg but just don?t fancy them this time, might try the bitters in it though, thanks for that

Bigcar ? my Mum had bought woollies vouchers for all her nieces and nephews, luckily all their parents have been out spending them!

snowwombat · 12/12/2008 00:21

just a quick me post- just had nuchal scan and got bloods back- v low risk for Downs but far more importantly -no bleeding around my placenta and one hyperactive 7cm wombatbaby . Prof can't tell me why I am continuing to bleed but has been v reassuring. So just the 28 weeks to go!!

We away camping now for a long weekend, raining in sydney but sunshine on its way!

bigcar · 12/12/2008 09:20

Morning all!

That's great news snowwombat! It's freezing here this morning, had to scrape the ice off the car earlier and to top it off nicely they are forecasting a lovely wet weekend

MrsMcClaus, I think that's a lovely age to have a first christmas, at least he will have an undertanding of what's going on Ds was 7 months for his first christmas and loved the tree, the following year though, he just wanted to pull it over all the time, we ended up having the (fake) tree on the dining room table when we weren't eating.

Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend!

Mhairi100 · 12/12/2008 11:53

MrsMcClaus, can't believe I put 'pregnancy for yoga' classes!! Obviously the reason I got pregnant was to improve my yoga technique, naturally I'm finding that it has helped immensely! The class was actually quite good, very low intensity. I particularly liked the bits where we had a nice lie down...!

Having a panicky day so far due to lots of abdominal pains, some of them quite sharp, and lower back pain. I'm pretty certain it's just ligament stretching, but it makes me nervous. Haven't had any spotting at all for 6 weeks and I'm 16 weeks today, so I shouldn't probably learn to worry less...

Wishing you all good weekends, both here in the cold and down under in the sun

ermintrude13 · 12/12/2008 12:09

Mhairi", I didn't even notice you'd got them the wrong way round, MRsMcC* is more on the ball than I am. Let's blame our hormones.

snowwombat so glad the scan went well. The 28 weeks will pass in a flash (apart from the last month which will d-r-a-a-a-g on forever),

I've just rediscovered proper Aussie soft liquorice - they sell Darrell Lea in Sainsbury's. Have eaten almost a whole pack and it's yummy. Since I'm still throwing up about every other day I'm due a hurl later - that'll be an interesting colour. Wonder if it stains the pan...

Tee2072 · 12/12/2008 12:59

Hi all

Sounds like everyone is doing really well!

mhairi I have those sorts of pains all the time. My doc said to not worry about them if there is no bleeding. Its just the body shifting for the baby!

As for me, woke up exhausted and nauseous, so took the day off work. I'm sure my boss is less than pleased, but just don't give a rats right now. I went back to sleep at 8 (after DH left for work), woke up at 11:30 and am planning on going back to bed in about 15 minutes!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

spongecake · 12/12/2008 19:52

snowwombat, daisy5 and doris- thanks for your advice, will call monday. saw docs wife at baby group today and she said everyone knows my mw is useless so lucky escape there

spent all morning retching so feeling the pain with those still suffering ms.

dh is home for once and i am so used to being alone and him at work can't stop being irritated by him, even though i love him being at home really. have already shouted/ sobbed/ threatened to run away, loads of rational behavior. he, bless him, just remains calm and doesn;t react.

tee2070, your boss sounds a sort i was off lots in my first pgncy and he got over it. i even made a guide to how to do my job, left it on my desk, and kept a list of of o/s. like anyone would have WANTED to nick my job equvilant of leaving keys in car overnight

Tinker3 · 13/12/2008 14:04

Hi there.. Just thought I would let you know that I have miscarried.. Pretty gutting to have got to 11+5 weeks but I guess it just wasn't meant to be.. Lot's of love and baby dust to the rest of you and Merry Christmas too!
