Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mhairi100 · 09/12/2008 16:51

Glad to help a bit, helpive, good you don't have a temperature. I'm much better now, thanks, it is horrid when you're feeling so bad because it's natural to think the baby is too. It was great to see it swimming around during the scan and seemingly not caring a bit! ermintrude13 thanks for making me feel better about the lack of bump situation, hopefully what you say will come true! By the way, anyone passed their driving test whilst pregnant? That's my aim before Easter, been having lessons since March but I'm a slow learner! Wish I'd got it out the way with many years ago...

Tee2072 · 09/12/2008 16:52

ermintrude that's great! Enjoy telling the kids!

Mhairi100 · 09/12/2008 17:00

Yes, great news, ermintrude! Yay, 13 weeks over already

MrsMcJnr · 09/12/2008 17:34

Oh no! the sciatic type pain I had down my right leg with DS is back hopefully it?ll disappear around week 24 like before! if not before of course!

Spongecake ? don?t know anything about that part of the country, sorry sounds nice though! Shame you are not here (or that I don?t have your cravings!) my folks have an avocado farm and there are loads at the mo!

Thanks Choccie the last few days haven?t been so sicky (though DH now has a tummy bug )

June ? never liked tomatoes much, I like them how DS has them though ? skin off and no seeds! Glad to hear you are feeling better, I strongly believe in mother?s instinct, if you think your baby is a boy, it probably is seriously hon just ignore those horror stories, your birth story will be all your own, you?ll get your head around he birth in your own time and when the time comes you?ll be more than ready I just couldn?t believe how calm and in control I felt, my body just seemed to take over and knew exactly what was going on ? I hope it?s like that for you too what Ermintrude is so true, labour pain is very intense but its a positive sensation not mixed with the usual fear that we have when we are in pain because something is wrong. It?s hard to explain that to make sense but there really is a difference

Tee ? it?s always the same, you feel better at home and then get back to normal life and realised you are not quite 100% yet. Take it easy hon if coffee smells good, you are into the good bit I reckon!

Leaky ? how exciting about your hols! when DS was 12 weeks we took him to the British Virgin Islands, the holiday had been booked years in advance (it was for my Dad?s 60th) and I have to say I had hardly been to Tesco at that stage so was a bit daunted by the thought of going across the world but it was totally fine

Thanks Flynn just 1 more sleep until your scan lovely news for your friend it?ll be so nice having babies so close in age, I found you really need that in the beginning as a week seems a big gap when your baby is tiny! Re your Dom Rep query, if it were me, I?d take the baby, my son is 10 ½ months and I don?t think I could bear to be apart from him for even a night yet. I?d be miserable. But that?s just me. Though as the others have said, the holiday would be more relaxing for you without a toddler to run after!

Littlesarah ? I would have loved a home birth but I couldn?t for med reasons in Scotland and here, well, it just doesn?t happen even if I could medically! I?ve dug out that info about the birthing class. The company was called Elemental Birth (www.elementalbirth.co.uk) and the class was held at Mulberry House at 39 Manor Place. In fact, I wish I?d discovered Mulberry House earlier in my pregnancy as they had so many lovely treatments on offer for pregnant women. I learnt so much in one day though at the class; all about herbs and lotions and potions etc and used a lot of what I learnt during DS?s labour and birth I am now a firm believer in the power of raspberry leaf tea! Hope you are feeling better

Ermintrude ? that?s my fear, I got to the ?pushing? stage so suddenly with DS that I?m worried to hang around at home again like I did with him just in case it takes less than the 45 mins it took with him. So glad the scan went well today enjoy breaking the news!

Llynnnn ? hope the sickness fades again soon

Poor you Help blood is always so scary when you are pg. Has it stopped? Glad to hear that the baby is fine. Sorry to hear about the food poisoning too, it?s not your week! When I was 16 weeks with DS I got a horrible D&V bug from my cousin?s baby. We?d been at a family party and 18 people came down with it and some of the oldies had to be hospitalised , I was terrified. I was advised to drink flat lucozade and to try to eat dry white toast. After a week I was fine and there were no adverse effects on DS. Horrible though I hope you feel much better soon

Hi Doris

Tinker welcome hon and congrats and yes, all you are going through is normal, it?s hard in the beginning because you expect that the health profs will want to see you more and you feel a bit lost don?t you!? Don?t worry they?ll make up for it later when you have to see the MW every week! Just read about the bleed sorry to hear that, it was probably thick as it?ll be mixed with mucous so hopefully is less blood than it looks but I hope they check it out for you very soon. Try to stay as positive as you can, it does help. Keep us posted. Don?t take that nonsense from the MW about no scans til Friday, there are always emergency spaces, get yourself to A&E if the bleeding hasn?t stopped or if you are cramping.

Ineedmore ? ah DS?s b?day sounded lovely! I am already getting excited about my DS?s 1st birthday on 24th January; I just don?t know where the time has gone. Like you, my mat clothes are the wrong way round season wise, I?ll need new ones too

StrawberrySam ? ah Peanut! Sweet! DS was ?Beanie? and this one is ?B2? I?d say that there is no such thing as a standard pregnancy and that anything is normal to be honest! enjoy breaking your news

Amsterdambaby ? so glad all went well with the scan I think I read that your DH works for the same company so you?d have to go to Germany anyway? Good idea to take more mat leave and settle in better sorry about the c section ? mind me asking why you have to have another?

Dreamy ? Sat sounded like a fun day sorry to here about the Step B. Where I was in Scotland with DS they only tested in a number of situations, not as standard as they do here. Makes me worry ? I am very ignorant but if you do have it, does the baby definitely get it passed over unless you have the IV antibiotics during labour? In other words, if my DS is ok does that mean I probably don?t have it?

Hi Mhairi ? that bump will suddenly appear with DS I didn?t really have a bump until 18-20 weeks even though I of course thought I did that gastroenteritis sounded horrible! My Mum was 35 weeks with me when she passed her driving test!

MrsMcJnr · 09/12/2008 17:39

whoops sorry for the "War and Peace" style post

CoteDAzur · 09/12/2008 19:59

MrsMcJnr - My sciatica pain I had when pregnant with DD returned, as well last time it had started around 6th month. Why oh why would it start now, when I am not even 4 months?!?!

On a different but more note, my tri-test results came back and I have 1/250 for Down's Syndrome. My amnio (which I asked for) was already scheduled for next week, so I don't know why this has affected me, but it has

MrsMcClaus · 09/12/2008 21:05

Cote - 1/250 is still a low risk hon, you'd take that to the bookies wouldn't you? and as you say when you have your amnio next week that fraction will become worthless to you. So hope all goes well, fingers crossed and sorry to hear about the pain, I guess the pelvis moves more easily 2nd time round?

flynn1984 · 09/12/2008 21:33

1 more sleep till my scan and cannot wait, will let you all know how I get on tomorrow

Tinker how are you feeling now you still bleeding? I think if you still bleed tomorrow you get yourself to a&e to put youmind at ease...theres no way I could wait until Friday for a scan...sending ((BIG HUGS))

helpive shame your still feeling sick I hope you feel better soonm and dont waorry baby will be fine!

ermintrude glad your scan went well and everything is ok, enjoy telling your kids I'm sure they'll love it!

tee here shoping 2nd trimester goes well for you, and us all, and I hope you enjoyed your decaf coffe

cote 1/250 is still good (i think) I hope your amino goes well next week and try not to worry!

mrsmcclaus sorry to hear about your sciatica pain hope it passes soon...can you tell I'm taking a leaf out your book with the long post

To everyone else who I have forgot to mention (I know theres lots) a big HI and hope you are feeling ok!

ermintrude13 · 09/12/2008 22:03

MrsMc your catch-up posts are so thorough, they always impress me! And now flynn's doing them too so I am put to shame. I shall just follow them with 'what she said' in future!

Cote 1:250 is categorised as low-risk in my area (and I think UK-wide) and if you work it out it's very good odds. Where I am, for scores of that or more, they suggest no further action, even blood tests, unless the woman is desperate for amnio/cvs - which of course have miscarriage odds of 1:100. So no need to be glum; it's looking good.

StrawberrySam, how did the family take the good news?

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 09/12/2008 22:21

Cote - good luck for he amnio, My CVS a few weeks ago was uncomfortable but the peace of mind it has given me is unimaginable, although I now focus on other nasties but that's not really going to change is it

This is just a short one as I was feeling a bit better yesterday and did some christmas shopping. As it turns out it was too much and I have felt rough as a rats arse every since and MS is back with a vengence. Think this may be the same as the last 2 until 23-24 weeks ( please cross your fingers for me that it improves before then as I'm only 15 weeks atm!!!!!

right going to put my money where my mouth is and go to bed!!! night all

snowwombat · 10/12/2008 10:01

tinker try not to worry-know how impossible that it!Can you get your GP to try and get you in earlier?Or ring the EPU directly and tell them if you have any pain/cramp/heavier bleeding? Have had bleeding both pregnancies and even when v heavy, baby has been ok.

Girls hope you doing ok, haven't read the whole thread yet but tee hope the return to work going ok. mrsMc have you thought about seeing an obstetric physio to sort the sciatica?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts last week, we made it through Oli's due date. Feeling pretty fragile today after being sure i was miscarrying last night (heavy bleed, clots, cramps sorry if TMI). Scan today shows v active wombatbaby, next scan Friday. Taken a few days off work and on bed rest.

Hello all,

Just back from London and my ball. The dress was great. Found some sixties looking jewellery, and together with my Angelina Jolie style strapless dress even managed to get a few compliments, which I truly truly appreciated! I'm wide up top and broad from the wait down so my waistline is one of my biggest assets - which alas, has vanished!

Shall catch up with all the posts later, but wanted to quickly put this together. Sorry if I've missed anyone or cut anything accidentally.

I have super mum and dad and 3 brothers. Pregnancy so far more tiring than I could ever have imagined, but am loving the glossy hair and cute little bump!

June2009 · 10/12/2008 12:44

daisy5 I think my bio said my MIL is crazy, either that or I thought better of actually writing it down. Probably better left out ;)

snowwombat Glad you had a good scan today, it must be such a relief for you. (hugs)

Work is manic today and I have a cold sore, gp said it's ok to use zovirax so hopefully it'll go away soon!
I get them from time to time and the last few times I got fever and infection.

I've been run down by work and ILs fighting.
Anyone got tips for relaxing and just stop thinking about stressful stuff?
I am having terrible insomnia because of it and it's making me so tired during the day I'm not focussed at work.

Hi All. Sorry to hear some of you are having some worrying times with bleeding and tummy bugs. I too have a mild tummy bug. Touch wood no v or d yet but the odd tummy bug style cramp. I just noticed my due date is missing off the list if someone would kindly add it as im not sure how to do it its 16th June.
With regards the group B strep they dont routinely test for it anywhere from what I can gather. They generally swab you for it if your waters have broken prior to labour beginning which is what happened in my case. Apparently over 50% of women naturally carry the bug in their vagina and never does anyone any harm but can lead to blindness meningitis and even death if a baby contracts it during the birthing process Having antibiotics via an iv drip for at least 2 hours in labour gives the baby a better fighting chance. They also monitor baby in hospital for 48 hours after delivery. My argument was that I was found to have the germ when I was pregnant with my daughter 5 1/2 years ago and was just assumed to still be carrying the germ 2 years ago with youngest daughter. They wont retest as they say its the sort of germ you can have one week and not the next and vice versa kind of like the cold virus so they wouldnt know when to check me for it. I dont like babies being given antibiotics without the evidence it is necessary as Ive read the younger a child gets them the more likelihood of developing lactose intolerance but I dont want to put my unborn child at risk of group b strep either so I have to go with the powers that be decision. I hate being on the bed hooked up to a drip too and having to stay in for at least 48 hours when there are little ones at home
sorry rant over

anyway on a more positive note we have managed to get another car to hopefuly see us through until next summer when I think we will be contemplating another seven seater or minibus.

On the health front My second eldest got sent home from 6th form yesterday ill and my granddaughter has an eye infection in both eyes and has just been diagnosed with asthma. We dont seem to be having a good winter but Im desperately hoping everyone is better before xmas and hope my eldest daughter doesnt bring any more germs home with her from uni

Hello everyone! dreamydowler, have updated the list for you and amended my due date too. Sorry for your strep b stress . Good news about the car though. Ours has just failed its MOT and is ready for the scrapheap anyway, so we now have 8 days to find a new one or we have to pay £350+ to get the old one roadworthy! Hmm, should probably have seen it coming... Off to an NCT 'pregnancy for yoga' class tonight and I'm feeling a bit nervous about it for some reason! The lady running it wanted me to bring mat, pillows and blanket, but I don't have any kit so I'm going to be lent stuff for tonight thankfully. Not even sure I have some decent jogging bottoms and I'm certainly not going to wear shorts!

Hiya all

just to let you all know my scan went extremely well. Went with a full bladder (like I was told) but after 45 mins of waiting I finally got scanned when I was ready to burst. Needless to say my bladder was totally full and the baby was pushed to the side with little room, so it was annoyed and in 'a mood'. when the scan started it put its wee hands over its face and turned its back on the scanner so we couldn't see it...fortunately after emptying my bladder it turned round and it was so amazing! Unfortunately they couldn't give me an idea if it was a boy or girl.

Next scan when I'm 20+ weeks on 4th Feb god dont think I can wait that long!

June2009 · 10/12/2008 20:35

StrawberrySam I'm paranoid as well that now I've told my relatives in france, everyone is going to know and it's added pressure on me to keep this baby alive!!
I've enquired about private scans today as I feel like I have missed out on the first one. (listening to the heartbeat and stuff).

loooouise · 10/12/2008 21:04

Hello everybody! Glad to hear things are going well with most and sending positive vibes to those with niggles. I hope everybody starts to feel better now we're all hurtling into the 2nd trimester.
A couple of things I wanted to share with you: a friend bought me a lovely book which is hugely enjoyable: Stumbling into Motherhood by Anne Enright. It's made me cry several times! Read and weep (in a joyful, I'm so blessed way).
Also, there's a very interesting series on BBC 4 at the moment called Growing Babies, with some amazing womb footage I thought you'd all like to see. I've been catching up on them on iPlayer. It's pretty amazing stuff.
My belly popped today! I have well and truly been bumped, off to New Look tomorrow.

mrsmcjnr- avocado farm! that would have been handy. all previous craving have gone now though and now on warm milk, museli, which i would never touch normally, disgusting, and lots of fruit. i even get up at night and eat museli. still feel sick all the time, but fingers crossed its going slowly.
mhairi100- YOGA!!! blimey, thats very active! i heard its good for helping with birth, but as haven't done it for ages can;t start now am not going to antenatal this time as first time was useless, and this time all classes in eve and i have ds. my dh works evenings as well as days. i rely on mn!!!
june2009, try practising breathing with eyes shut and imagine yourself lovely place you love etc. or get some really good books out of the library and immerse yourself- i have a few panic attacks due to move stress (house, not self) this week and i have taken to breathing in and out loudly and slowly. do beware if in public as people think you will give birth
must go, all this talk of museli make me hungry for some!

daisy5 · 10/12/2008 21:19

I have tried to catch up with the past week but am struggling a bit - mrsmcjnr you really are incredible when it comes to following all that is going on.

cote - I was always worried about getting a number like 1:250 because it's low enough to know that it would be a nagging worry during the pregnancy if you didn't get tested (what if, what if)...but it's also the best possible result from the 'high risk' group - as someone said at the bookies it is considered a long long long long shot. Big hugs and thinking of you.

snowwombat - I love your name, and it made me wonder, has it ever snowed in Sydney? congrats on the great scan and flynn too - isn't it just the loveliest thing in the world.

mrsmclaus - a friend of mind had crippling sciatica pain with no.1 but with no.2 it came and went and was never so bad.

dreamy - sorry to hear of strep worries.

spongecake - welcome - we just moved home over 4 months ago and I'm surprised how many friends I've made here without even making much effort. I hope that you find the same in Northamptonshire. There are some lovely parts around there aren't there. I once cycled from Newcastle to London through the middle of the country and remember enjoying the countryside around Rugby.

flynn - love your comment about whether 'babies that young can get jobs'

looouise - love the picture you paint of breastfeeding during UN sessions on disarmament. Your own personal 'peace envoy'.

strawberrysam and tinker - oh no, wretched bleeding! It's agonising. I bled heavily with clots at 12.5weeks and I was convinced it was all over but dd was there on the screen - happy and healthy. Big hugs to you both.

june - the one thing I really regret about my first pregnancy is worrying so much about the 'birth'. All you need to do is read all about your options in as much depth as you feel you want to go into and then go to the classes nearer the time. But don't worry about it. It all happens one way or another and your body is built to have babies. I got a lot from the classes, learning about all my options and what might happen and ways to manage various outcomes. I liked the feeling that I knew enough to be able to make reasonable decisions at a time when it can feel a little 'out of control'. It also empowered me to question things and assert myself. For instance, early on I was denied gas and air by a student midwife, so I told her I was 'going to have it' (giving reasons why) and she relented based on what I told her. I also read a book on Water Birth's because I was really interested in that which meant when they refused me one and explained why, I knew enough to know that their judgement was correct. I'm currently considering Home Birth, as the midwife suggested it but I'm not absolutely sure yet.

Hi All

I'm feeling okay. Had some nausea today and my blood sugar is totally wacky (I'm diabetic for those of you who don't remember). I just read that the baby's pancreas is working and producing insulin, which could explain my wacky blood sugar!

Tonight I am having a lot of aches across my tummy, like muscle stretching, so maybe she/he is moving around in there!

My big first scan is next Tuesday, so cannot wait for that!

Sorry its such a me post, I'll try to catch up with everyone soon!

daisy5 · 10/12/2008 21:31

oh tee - I meant to ask how you were feeling.

Yes, in my experience the aches are normal. They increase with time and become the little kicking fella (or felless) in 8-10 weeks time.

I really feel for you with the blood sugar situation. It must be a tough balancing act.

I have no diabetic issues but my blood sugar seems to drop so quickly some times that it is quite spooky - thank goodness for Cadbury's Fruit & Nut and good old fashioned apples - they both keep me going.
