Have managed to catch a horrible head cold so feel fairly rough today (and yesterday)! Going to try and get a decent amount of uni work done though as time is ticking away...

ermintrude - Like you I had a fairly easy labour with dd. 5 hours of established labour and about 10 minutes of pushing. That certainly makes staying at home with little pain relief far easier! I'm hoping for something similar this time, but will just have to wait and see.

llynnn - Thanks, it is harder than I thought, feeling better now though. Poor you with your nausea! It's a nightmare eh?

Tinker - welcome and congrats!

Doris - Try not worry about the blood too much, but do go and get yourself checked out.

Flynn - I think leaving with grandparents is totally fine for a few days, you'll probably be in need of a break at that age!

LittleSarah · 08/12/2008 09:28

SORRY, not Doris - I meant helpivegottogivebirth! Amsterdambaby Glad to hear about great scan!

June2009 · 08/12/2008 09:40

chocciedooby Now that we have seen our scan picture we kinda think it's a boy too, really not sure why as the pic is so blurry...

I'm starting week 14 now and actually felt human this morning and not so lethargic.
Huge amount of work to catch up with now...

flynn1984 · 08/12/2008 09:45

Morning all!

ermintrude13 I dont need to decide right now what to do, but the sooner I do the better so I can start saving...sounds terrible but I wish my friends would change their location and make their wedding closer to home!

helpivegotto I hope you get to see someone to put your mind at ease, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.

amsterdam glad your scan went well.

Ineed hope your DS's party went well and that you've recovered!

To everyone with scans this week good luck and hope they all go well. 2 days till mine and cannot wait, heres hoping they can tell me what I'm having

Unfortunately after 2 weeks ms free it creeps on me this morning, heres hoping it is just a bit of tiredness and that it will go away soon!

dreamydowler · 08/12/2008 10:48

Morning everyone and hope we all had a good weekend. I did lots of xmas shopping on saturday with my mum and dad and sister It was great to have a full child free day and was treated to breakfast and a pub lunch by my parents I cant believe how much food I ate in one day Im definitely starting to feel less sicky.

Welcome Tink Its nice to have another newbie join us all congratulations on your first pregnancy. You sound like a busy lady dont remember to take some time out for pampering every now and again as with a lack of symptoms its easy to forget and carry on as normal.

Helpivegotto have you been ok this weekend Did you manage to get to see anyone I hope all is ok but remember we are all here and lots of us have been through similar Keep your chin up and get lots of rest.

Glad everyones scans are going ok Its funny how we strain to see if we can tell what we are all having Is everyone going to find out or would some like to leave it as a surprise? I have my 20 week scan at the end of jan so have a while to wait to find out.

I envy those of you who are hoping for a homebirth I had one with ds2 ten years ago and it was a lovely experience but powers that be wont let me as there is now a history of group b strep so I have to be hooked up to an antibiotic iv during labour

Well must go and change my granddaughters disgustingly smelly nappy joy of joys and then Im planning to completely gut and clean the lounge of toys and mess ready for the tree that dp got down from the loft to go up. Now where did I put those pegs pooey

Tee2072 · 08/12/2008 10:51

Morning all.

Well I'm back to work, and I'm regretting it a bit, as I'm still really nauseous. And totally exhausted. I'll see how it goes over the next few days, especially as I am off over the holidays for 2 weeks.

Glad everyone's scans are going well. I'll be having mine detailed/booking in scan Tuesday week!

ermintrude13 · 08/12/2008 11:08

dreamydowler, your shopping day sounded like a treat. I tend to keep my lunch down so keep trying to get DH to take a day off for shopping and treat me. He hasn't taken the hint so far.

I don't want to know the sex of my dc - I have one of each and didn't find out with them and preferred not to think about the bump as a boy or girl until it emerged. But lots of people like to know, for lots of reasons, it's a v personal call.

Tee, if you can hang on in there and get through this fortnight you'll know that there won't be a towering pile of work to do after the break. I've been so sick this time around, so I really do sympathise with the horrid nauseous feeling, and find it hard to remember how I managed to work thru my first trimesters with other dc. At the moment walking to and from school is quite enough. I guess we push ourselves to do what needs to be done and I used to run an organisation so not going to work would have made my life much more difficult than dragging myself in and looking pale all day. Plan some lovely relaxing things to do - or not to do - in the hols and don't let work stress you out.

Tee2072 · 08/12/2008 12:04

ermintrude that's a really good point. I already have quite a bit to catch up from being out for 3 weeks, although my assistant did an amazing job keeping up.

I forgot to say welcome to tink!! So Welcome!

June2009 · 08/12/2008 13:20

dreamydowler
We decided to find out at our 20w scan at the end of Jan. I'm not too bothered either way but my dh really wants to find out.
DH has also been open about the fact that he would prefer a girl, if we turn out to have a boy then he'll have time to adjust.

Mhairi100 · 08/12/2008 17:02

Hello everyone, hope your first day back at work has gone well Tee2072 (not so long til the Christmas break now, phew) and hello Tinker3! Do check that you will get a 12 week scan on the NHS in Somerset, you don't get them in Wiltshire, very much hope you will and it's not a South West thing. We had a private one, couldn't wait til 20 weeks, I think it's mean.

Just wondering how everyone's bumps are getting on? I still don't have one, though must have changed a bit as my old jeans don't fit and am getting bored waiting! I'm 16 weeks on Friday and getting tired of people saying I still look very thin...I am a bit of a beanpole and will probably end up looking like a snake that swallowed an egg, so should probably be thankful that this hasn't happened yet (but I'm not!). Think the MS is finally on its way out which is very good news .

We're not going to find out the sex at 20 weeks, though am reserving the right to change my mind about this at the last minute!

June2009 · 08/12/2008 17:30

Mhairi100 people keep asking us what sex the baby is, I think even when we do find out I'd like to keep it for ourselves.

I have surprised myself wanting to keep everything very private, I think it makes it very special. The first few days when only my dh and I knew were amazing.

I think it's also because almost everybody I have told about the pregnancy say really kind and nice things first and then veer onto mcs, problems, 2nd and 3rd degree tears and difficult births, it's so annoying.

I also mentionned once (when we announced it)to my SIL that the concept of giving birth was quite terrifying and now she says to everyone who wants to hear that I'm scared of having children.

I know they're only trying to make conversation and most of them do not have the experience so they don't realise I would rather stay on my little cloud where birth is all lovely and pain free

My aunties have all been really lovely and htoughful which was really nice as even my dad always brings up horror stories, not even followed by "but im sure you'll be all right".!!

Well, my first day back wasn't great, wasn't terrible. Felt nauseaous for most of the day, which wasn't fun, but never actually hurled, so that was good!

Am so totally exhausted right now will probably hit my bed by 9pm!

I think I can make through these next two weeks, then I have two weeks holiday, then I'll be firmly in my 2nd trimester and hopefully all the energy they keep promising me will come to pass!

ermintrude13 · 08/12/2008 21:39

June, it's always amazing how many people like to tell birth horror stories. Even if I'd had a terribly traumatic experience in labour I hope I'd be able to keep it to myself in the presence of pregnant women! Actually I had two great experiences so any time you want to hear about them you just say! Yes of course there are potential complications and a few women have a terrible time of it, but most get by just fine. I suppose we all like to exaggerate to tell a good tale and then it's like Chinese whispers, usually ending in "...and the baby turned out to be FIFTEEN POUNDS and they had to cut her from HERE to HERE..." Not v helpful. Pain-free labour is unlikely, I hate to say it, but pain comes in many guises and intensities, and if it's associated with something progressing - so you know it's going to pass - it's completely manageable. Try not to worry and get all the good info you can from midwives and friends who aren't trying to scare you.

Tee well done for getting through your first day back at work - one down, not many to go before a break. I too am hoping that second trimester will mean goodbye M/S, hello energy.

Mhairi, I bet you'll be one of those elegant slim types with a beautiful neat bump. I'm still just about in my normal clothes at just over 12 wks but am definitely porking out. Got v big with both my other dc so am expecting to look like a 5'4" barrel in a couple of months. Be glad you won't have the indignity!

dreamydowler have you found a car yet? Sounds like you really need one and there must be some bargains to be had in all markets.

Tee2072 · 09/12/2008 09:45

Ahh, the best thing happened this morning. I was making the coffee for the office and for the first time in ages it smelt good! I was totally addicted to coffee before I got pregnant and now I can drink it again! Decaff, unfortunately, but its better than nothing!

Maybe 'they' are right about what 'they' say about the 2nd trimester! It does get better!

helpivegottogivebirth · 09/12/2008 09:56

thanks for all your good thoughts. had the most horrible of days. saturday had a bit of bleeding and on sunday i got food poisoning . literally was not able to even keep water in all day yesterday. feeling a bit better now though.

spent the morning yesterday at the EPU so was able to see the baby. it seems all okay - the sonographer couldn't see why the bleed appened. now i just worry if the food poisoning has crossed over into it. god what a nightmare

Tinker3 · 09/12/2008 10:48

Hello ladies.. Thank you so much for making me feel welcome... Having a rubbish day today as I have had bleeding on and off since yesterday morning.. With quite a lot just now. Probably TMI, but it's very sticky and not dark brown but not bright red either I don't know what to do or think.. I have called the midwife and she has said that she will try to get me into the EPAC ASAP but she was pretty non-plussed I have to say. I have my first scan booked for Friday... I can't believe I have come this far to maybe be losing it.. Any thoughts or ideas welcome!

June2009 · 09/12/2008 11:06

helpivegottogivebirth I had food poisoning after eating scallops on Thursday evening It was over really quickly thankfully.

Tinker3
Can you go to an early unit?

If that's any reassurance last time I read about mcs on a thread the ladies said there is usually at least enough (red) blood to soak up a pad in an hour.

I hope the midwife gets back to you asap, call her back if you feel this is carrying on today.

((big hugs))

flynn1984 · 09/12/2008 11:40

Tinker3 ((Big hugs)) I know this may not ease your situation any but try to remain positive and if it continues, no matter what the midwife says, you get yourself to either an EPU or A&E just to put your mind at ease.

helpivegotto Shame to hear about you not feeling well, I hope your food posioning passes quick ((big hugs)).

I dont understand why some midwifes are unhelpful/unpleasent mines have been great so far esp with my miscarriage scare when I was only 5 weeks gone.

I hope everyone else is feeling better!

LittleSarah · 09/12/2008 12:14

helpive - Glad to hear everything is okay with the baby, hope you feel better soon!

tinker - Poor you! I agree with the idea of contacting an EPU directly, they'll definitely scan you if you're bleeding, you shouldn't have to wait til Friday!

Tinker3 · 09/12/2008 13:07

Well I have had a call from the midwife and she has said there are no appointments until mine of Friday... [Hmm]I don't have enough blood to wear a pad but I just get some every time I pee.. Very worrying and all my Mum and DH can say is 'what will be will be' Aghghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

helpivegottogivebirth · 09/12/2008 13:21

Tinker - i really feel for you. it's such a shock when you see it there for the first time.
remember if it gets worse, there is always A&E. Drastic i know but...

my sickness is still here - thought melon would help - the liquid and a bit of sugar, but no, up it all comes again. nothing has stayed in for 36 hours now - beginning to feel a bit worried? poor baby do you think he feels sick too?

Mhairi100 · 09/12/2008 13:45

Thinking of you, Tinker. Helpive, try not to worry, I had really bad gastroenteritis for 10 days that I picked up in Athens on a work trip. Had my 12 week scan right in the middle of it, and the baby was on great form despite my exceedingly frequent trips to the loo over many days and feeling worse than I think I've ever done. Really hope you feel better soon, and do go to the Drs if you think you're getting badly dehydrated, that and a high temperature are the only real risks to the baby, they told me. In the end I was given a low dose of codeine to control the symptoms which I hated taking but did the job

helpivegottogivebirth · 09/12/2008 14:06

hey thanks Mhairi- that's really reassuring. i def don't think i've got a temperature - it's just the food/water issues. i hope you are feeling better now too.

ermintrude13 · 09/12/2008 16:45

Had my scan this afternoon including NT and my Downs rating went down from 1 in 66 to 1 in 322 - 0.3% - so am very reassured. The babe was head down having a little kick now and then and put hand to forehead in what the sonographer called 'the Bruce Forsyth pose'. Dates also corresponded precisely with my conception date as opposed to lmp so I'm due 17 June rather than 20 which makes me 13 wks tomorrow. I know it's all academic but it's heartening to feel it's a bit further on! Still sick as a dog, but excited about telling kids tonight (no need to tell anyone else in the neighbourhood; the news will travel fast) and then phoning parents.

Tinker sorry for your worries, it doesn't sound drastic but it's always such a concern. It's a bit rough you have to wait until Friday - I know the scan doesn't actually DO anything, but making you worry for several days is hardly a good move. Hang on in there.

helpivegotto - hope you can soon keep some food down, and don't worry, the babe will be taking the teeny amounts he needs and it's only you who feels rough. Small comfort...
