spongecake · 04/12/2008 20:32

hi, maihri100 feel for you- 1st pgcy was sick til 5.5 months am still feeling sick most of the time. i even wake up in the night and feel sick. or rather ds wakes me can't eat bread, pasta, anything bread or starch eg potatoes (unless burnt roasted). retch at sight/smell/thought of fish or rice. this is total nightmare as my ds still has to eat! very small selection of food left for me-beetroot, feta cheese and cucumber. oh, and oranges.

am due 3 june, no idea if will be dd or ds but will be having cs again. am about to look up what hospital to go for now due to move and see what their record is.

is anyone a different shape to their previous prgcy? i was HUGE all over last time, but this time am just big in front. none of my last maternity fit, have had to buy more..

for anyone missing pate(!) cook and chop duck very small and put in tiny ramekins, season with orange juice (real) and bung in fridge. you can pretend its duck pate when its cooled. add chopped mushroms if liked.

me- one ds, 20 months, one dh, i am a sahm which i love and i know i am v v lucky. live in cotswolds at mo but dh has new job-found out yesterday- so moving early Jan. am really stressed about it- have estate agents here for rentng, dealing with removal co, v bouncy toddler. my family live 2 hours away, and my dh family live in france(he is french)

LittleSarah · 05/12/2008 09:04

I LOVE pate too! Might try your duck idea spongecake! llynnn and ermintrude - yes I've been thinking about the sleep issues too! Will be crazy all over again. Dd always used to wake up 6-6.30 but got her a bunny clock early this year to stop her getting up until 7.30... I hope baby likes to get up then too! I don't so much mind the night waking as you can go back to sleep, but if I get another very early riser.... eeek.

chocciedooby - Congrats on your scan, so nice to see them looking like proper wee babies!

Very glad it is Friday today, need to do some uni work tomorrow am but then am going to relax and enjoy weekend. (Dd is at her dad's so can have more lie-ins and lazing!)

flynn1984 · 05/12/2008 10:10

Morning all

Hope everyone is well and that this weeks scans have all went great...I can't wait till next Wednesday when it's my scan

Just wondering if anyone else is into maternity clothes already? I was bursting out my size 16 trousers but size 18's were too big so i'm now sitting in a nice comfy pair of size 16 maternity trousers I bought from new look

ermintrude13 · 05/12/2008 10:15

Hello All

flynn, I'm still in all my original clothes - must be the silver lining of all this m/s and throwing up! I am getting a little bump but it's all in the general wobbliness of my belly. Still, it's all tucking into my normal size 12s without having to breathe in, so won't take down those ancient Blooming Marvellous jeans with the stretch waistband from the loft just yet.

My scan is the day before yours - v excited about it!

Right, off to see if Sainsbury's do that pasteurised brie, and am planning a major sandwich for lunch. I still feel a bit sick all day but am only puking in the evening, so lunch tends to stay down. Small mercies....

flynn1984 · 05/12/2008 10:28

ermintrude13 lucky you wish I could still fit into my regular trousers, the ones I have are comfy but really embarrassed I'm in them at the 12 week mark when I've heard some people (namely SIL) didn't need them till about 16-18 weeks.

Good luck in your search for pasturised brie and sorry to hear your still being sick hope that passes soon for you x

Tee2072 · 05/12/2008 10:33

flynn I went out and bought maternity wear this week. My sized 16 jeans were still fitting, but kept sliding down, I assume because my shape is changing. My sized 16 maternity though fit perfectly!

I also ordered to bella bands so maybe I can use some of my non-maternity work trousers a bit longer! And shirts!

Although I've had two early scans, I don't have my booking in until Tuesday week, so can't wait for that longer scan!

chocciedooby · 05/12/2008 10:33

Hi everyone. Still coughing away here and feeling a bit fed up today
Was on such a high yesterday after my scan but then fell into a complete downer after ds1 played me up at bed time.I must start another thread on this as need some advice. Anyway, ds2 then had massive tantrum this morning and I had to carry him in a firemans lift all the way to ds1's school.I am exhausted by all of this physical exertion!!! Thats the time that ms comes back.
littlesarah where did you get the bunny clock from? I am thinking of getting one for ds1 as he has started waking at 6ish at the weekends and then during the week he won't get up for school .
Do you think the clock could work for me?
bigcar I am sobbing quite a bit. TV shows, books etc but the worse is that I am finding it very tough not to get emotional wheh ds1 is behaving badly. After disciplining him I get all upset (not in front of him of course). I seem to have lost any emotional strength that I had.

LittleSarah · 05/12/2008 10:49

chocciedooby - Sounds like you've had a tough morning!
How old is your ds? My dd is 4 (just turned when we got it), they are supposed to work for much younger though. Probably half the time she wakes up before it, i.e. it hasn't necessarily taught her to go back to sleep but she doesn't wake up nearly as early usually. When she does wake up before the clock she will stay in bed looking at books, playing with teddies, sometimes singing! Then she'll march through and shout: The bunny's awake!" So it definitely works, I was just very repetitive when we first got it saying over and over: don't get up until the bunny does.
I got ours from Amazon, so worth it!

Had horrible wave of nausea, ugh, I am still waiting for then joys of the second trimester at 14 weeks! Read an article in Pregancy and Baby yesterday, this actress (from The Departed and Boy in the Striped Pjamas) said how she felt 'invincible' in her second trimester. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I want to curl up on the sofa with a cup of hot chocolate! (Am at blinkin' work of course).

Have bought maternity stuff but don't really need it yet, just wanted it IYKWIM. Can still fit into other things, but definitely getting bigger quicker this time.

June2009 · 05/12/2008 10:52

flynn1984 same size as you and same problem so I think I might be making my way to New Look soon!!

cote what does your french gyneco say about cheeses?
I think I might ask my dad to ask his friend who is a doctor in France. (only cause they're more likley to say it's ok ;)

June2009 31, due 7th June, first baby. I've been with dh 10 years, married 2 years, we run a small business together.
I Live in North London, from France originially. I have a big family there who I am close to.
Dh's family local. Sil and Bil very close. Pils divorcing atm MIL a psycho-nightmare!
Ms not too bad but definitely present, exhausted and nauseous mainly. Had first scan at 13+3 and can't wait for the next one.

chocciedooby · 05/12/2008 10:55

Thanks Littlesarah. DS1 just turned 5 so I am wondering if it will work for him. Maybe I'm a little late. I will check it out anyway.
Sorry to hear your still having waves of nausea. I get the odd bit when exerting myself or late at night. I am only 12 weeks though and last pgy it didn't go until I was 15 weeks.
Oh the joys......

LittleSarah · 05/12/2008 11:04

chocciedooby - I think you should still be fine. For older kids it is more about giving them something that shows them what time is okay to get up and what time not, before they can tell time themselves. Otherwise if they are awake and feel it they'll figure it is time to get up.

ermintrude13 · 05/12/2008 11:05

choccie, we got our ds an alarm clock for his 6th bd - it's in the shape of a football, v cheap off ebay - and set it to 6.30 am which is kind of his natural waking time. If it hasn't gone off, he's not allowed to get up but can put his light on and read/play quietly. The bunny ears were a bit too young for him, as he can just about tell the time and is too hard and cool for bunnies! Sometimes he'll cheat by turning the alarm hand until it beeps and shouting 'good morning!' but we're wise to that now and he gets told off, so has just about given up. Usually it works very well and he likes setting it - just pulling up a little lid, which he presses down to stop the alarm, so nice and simple. Worth a try?

dreamydowler · 05/12/2008 12:05

Morning all Had a really bad night dd age 5 was throwing up from about 1am and ended up in my bed as she was sick all over hers and I couldnt face changing it My partner works nights and had to clean it up bless whhen he got home along with the bowl full beside my bed I felt like a really bad mum but did go and get her a drink My eldest son has gone to London for the weekend with the school and needed to be woken up at 5am this morning so all in all havent had a great deal of sleep. Desperately hoping dd age 5 dd age 2 and granddaughter age 1 who is here today all fall asleep this afternoon. I too still have a lingering cough and runny nose left over from the flu which doesnt help with the ms which I think would have eased if it werent for that and the heartburn. As for being weepy I have been ridiculously so My daughter bought me mamma mia for my birthday last weekend and I even cried to that. Has anyone had any cravings? And does anyone know of any good inexpensive shops for larger ladies maternity Im normally a size 20/22

helpivegottogivebirth · 05/12/2008 12:07

Morning sickness seems to have got better this week though the acne is still rampant on my left cheek.

mini biog -
aged 30, expecting 1st baby during the 1st week of June. got married in the summer.
i work in publishing, and am going freelance in the New Year. i also have my own publishing company and publish small gift books - MBS stuff and childrens. I live in london but looking to move out as soon as i can - i want a garden. Really excited about 2009.

LittleSarah · 05/12/2008 13:35

My bunny clock is not the one with the ears btw, although might not be loved so much by boys I admit! It has a sleeping bunny on the top half and an awake bunny on the bottom. When the top one is lit up then she can't get up and when the bottom one is she can...

LittleSarah · 05/12/2008 13:35

help - ooh I want a garden too!

MrsMcJnr · 05/12/2008 15:07

Sorry that I have been so crap at posting ladies I have been feeling so bad recently that when DS is in bed all I want to do is sleep! I thought that the worst of it was over and that I was only going to feel sick from now on but the last two days have been awful and I can?t stop being sick again. I really can?t believe how different this pregnancy is, it?s so much harder and I think that is even factoring in the need to care for a small child and not rest as much etc. I am so lucky that I am not commuting or having to use my brain as I did when I was pg with DS! My skin, hair and nails are horrendous and all the things I only read about last time are here: itchy skin, rib flare ggggggggr! Anyway, enough moaning! She has started to move around enough for me to feel it which is exciting and I have a definite bump now which I really love

Anyway here to catch up and see how you all are

MrsMcJnr · 05/12/2008 15:36

Choccie ? hope you are feeling much better, I have just got over a cold and I was addicted to drinking hot ribena! I am getting loads of headaches too, hate them! glad to hear the nausea is better though Hope the nuchal went ok hon.

Hey there Littlesarah if the CAB are no help on the mat pay point, put a post on here, there are some very informed ladies out there! hope the scan went well and that your boss? email gave you some reassurance

Strawberrysam ? how are things with you?

Ineedmore ? hope your DS is much better now, he sounded scary sick and I would be so scared if DS had one of those convulsions, so glad yours doesn?t get them anymore. Sorry to hear about the car accident

Amsterdambaby ? hope your scan went well, do you have to relocate to Germany lock, stock and barrel? Have you thought about taking early mat leave?

Tee ? how are you feeling now? The tears are crazy in pregnancy aren?t they? I?ve lost weight too but you wouldn?t know it from my middle

Snowwombat ? I hope Weds was ok hon I remember hitting my due date for the baby I lost, it was a horrible day hope you heard lots of lovely heartbeats on Thursday

Doris ? my sympathies on the nausea front, hope you feel better soon

June2009 ? it does sound like you have a lot on your plate just now, you must have terrified DH with that scream though!

Flynn ? glad you had a lovely time in Dublin but sorry to hear about the bad work news, can you get temporary work with what you do to tide you over? Maybe someone else?s mat leave? I had stuff in the house, I just left it in a corner and ignored it and I have no choice but to have all the stuff in the house this time?

Dreamydowler ? hello and welcome! number 8! Fabulous!! I know who we?ll turn to for all our baby and pg questions!

Looouise ? so glad the scan went well so sorry to hear about your friend

Hello Mhairi and Sweetbroody [fmsile]

Good idea Daisy here?s me:

MrsMcJnr 30th May ? girl! 34 years DS 10 months. With DH 7 years, married 2.5. Moved from Scotland to Spain in May. I grew up here. Am a lawyer but haven?t returned to work yet since having DS. Pg before DS ended in MC at 13 weeks. DS?s pg a dream, birth ideal, this time, very sick, spotty and greasy! Uggh!

Got to go DS awake ? more later (note for me: from pg3!)

SweetBROODY · 05/12/2008 16:29

Hey ladies - its good to see you all doing well.. I had an appointment yesterday and heard babies heartbeat it was 150.. not sure if that means anything.

My dad also had his Bypass yesterday and is feeling pretty battered... ITs keeping me busy though and cant beleive where the time is flying. cant not beleive that i'm almost 4 months!

its alwasy nice to read you ladies expereinces though it gives me something to smile about at the end of a long day.. hope to start posting a bit more as well.. feel a bit more human.. now at 15 weeks! Even manged to keep brekky and lunch down!

SweetBROODY · 05/12/2008 16:45

I got size 16's from New look They are very good.. the bands feel a bit silly though? I dont know if I am doing it right? my normal trousers seem to just drop off from below it? BUt then I have lost weight since the pregnancy.. :S

LittleSarah · 05/12/2008 19:23

Well, I just burst into tears! Poor dh.

We were having a kind of mini argument about bringing dd to his grandpa's on boxing day, him arguing either get a babysitter or take her and put her to bed at the house and me saying no just take her and let her stay up. I was like I don't like the idea of putting her to bed and then getting her up again.

But of course that wasn't really the issue (I have no views on that either way), and I hadn't really thought about the real issue! It was that she is going away with her dad from 23rd to 26th and that I don't want to just get her back and then leave her either a. at home or b. out of the fun.

So of course did the start to cry and then managed to realise what was actually wrong! I think also am a bit touchy about dd at the moment as she went into nursery full-time in October which she has never done before and what with her going to her dad's regularly I feel I'm seeing her a lot less than before.

I'm not a clingy mum, at all, in fact usually I feel I should be more so (!) and I enjoy getting time adult time (for proof see earlier post re looking forward to the weekend!), but I am bit sad sometimes about the lost time. What will I be like with this next one, who'll probably be full-time at nursery by the time they're a year old. Dd is 4.5!!

Anyway, sorry for that, dh was lovely after he realised why I was so bothered, and feel better now, although still a bit teary.

sweetBROODY - Are you talking about belly bands? I never had any last time, I was quite small (had 2 late scans because of it). Not sure how they work, my dh found them online though and is dying to buy some!

Hope your dad is alright, no wonder you don't have as much time to post!

As far as my sketchy knowledge goes babies hearts are supposed to beat that fast!

MrsMcJnr - Will definitely be posting for advice here if CAB is useless! Sorry to hear you've been struggling, I'm sure it'll pass soon. And fab you can feel the baby already, come week 16 I'm going to lying still as a statue waiting for a movement, last time I felt nowt until 22 weeks!

MrsMcJnr · 05/12/2008 20:22

That was a great idea of yours Daisy; it?s really interesting knowing a bit more about everyone

Littlesarah ? So glad the scan went well. Did I know that you were in Edinburgh?! Not sure! I loved in a few places in Polwarth and DH and I still have a flat in Slateford. I?ve just left that neck of the woods after 16 years, went to Uni there and stayed! If you get a chance, go to Caitlin Heaney?s Active Birth workshop, it was fabulous, it?s really bugging me now as I can?t remember what the Centre is called that held it grrr! I will look it up if you need me to. Do you plan to have your baby in the Royal or in St John?s? I had DS ay St. John?s and they were FABULOUS Actually they also did 16 weeks and 30 week physio classes and they were great, so many tips and I met some lovely ladies at those too. With DS I didn?t feel anything until much later so it is a nice surprise to be feeling the baby earlier, especially as her placenta is anterior and I was worried that that would mask her movements. Sorry to hear about the tears!

Ermintrude ? funny that you are just being sick at night now, I seem to always get hit at about 3am, it wakes me up poor you with the dentist, uggh! All the best for the scan!

June ? so glad the scan went well what a long time to wait for the DS results though! I?ve decided what kind of birth I want ? I?d like a quick, painless and 100% natural birth with no interventions (and no stitches this time!) I think you can decide where you want to give birth in the UK right up until the last minute and from memory AN classes began when I was about 25 weeks ? I remember dying to start them too! I am a total control freak and had a real fear of people doing things to me that I didn?t want done when I was pg with DS, as a result, I did loads of research, read all I could and spoke to Drs and Midwives about scenarios they also helped me with my birth plan. Some people think birth plans are a waste of time but I personally was so pleased that I?d thought through how I felt about things before the event as on the day, I was like a drunk old man at a party and felt happy to just get on with what was at hand knowing that DH absolutely knew my wishes and the reasons for them and agreed with me. I would add that my plan was extremely flexible and the main wish was always ?ask and explain to me first before you do anything? which they did. I?m pretty scared about giving birth here as you are meant to give yourself over to the medical staff and not question things, we?ll see about that!!

Amsterdambaby ? so sorry about your relative, how sad

Ineed ? sorry to hear about the fillings!

Strawberrysam ? so glad that scan went well hon

Mica ? I can empathise my DS keeps waking up at that ungodly hour too

Choccie ? fab scan hon!

Mhairi ? lovely that you heard your baby?s heartbeat

Hello llynnnn

Thanks Bigcar not a pate fan either and I hate sprouts!!

Spongecake ? where you moving to? I can stand the smell or sight of fish or chicken, most nights I can?t eat dinner, surviving mostly on porridge and cheese!

Flynn ? oh yes, in mat clothes alright, have been for a couple of weeks and am sooo much more comfy! everyone is different so don?t feel self conscious Good luck for Weds

Dreamy ? poor you, what a day! And I am shattered after looking after one 10 month old

Sweetbroody ? how is your Dad feeling hon?

Yay, I?ve caught up!!!

spongecake · 05/12/2008 20:48

hi there, flynn, have been in maternity since 5 weeks when had to borrow dh trousers to fly home as was too fat by miles after a weeks hols. still, was in maternity after 1 month with first prgny. no secrets round here

mrs mcjhr, am moving to northamtonshire, know nothing about the place, if anyone does know it, let me know!

celery is added to my list of edible food, but have been addicted to advocado all day, had to rushh and buy some- made a huge dip as well, with the celery my cravings change daily, which can be awaste of money. think dh would like to see me craving early bed and not to sleep

chocciedooby · 06/12/2008 09:20

spongecake
HI mrsmcjnr - sorry to hear you are not feeling great.Hope it passes soon for you.
littlesarah - I am very tearful and sensitive at the moment. I can perfectly understand why you have been upset about your dd over Christmas.Hope that you get things worked out.
Oh - something I'm sure you are all aware of - Most men don't really GET the whole pregnancy hormonal thing and when having little rows they don't take it into account.I am far more irrational than normal. (not saying that you are little sarah, you had a good point), just thinking of our own little rows lately.

My Bio:

37, 2 Ds's (5.1 and 3.9). Live with DH in Dublin.I moved here 11 years ago.Married for 7 years, together 15 years.SAHM.Expecting dc3 June 18th.Getting lots of headaches, spots, craving tomatoes now

June2009 · 06/12/2008 10:07

chocciedooby I'm completely off tomatoes, I loved them before, now I can only face the tiny little cherry tomatoes, and only if I absolutely have to.

LittleSarah A friend of mine has actually had to plan a holiday abroad so she could cope with her ds spending xmas with his dad instead of her. He must be 7yo by now but it's the first time. She was v. emotional about it and is not pregnant.

llynnnn How was your weekend in London?

MrsMcJnr I'm with you with the painless natural birth ;) By the way I'm impressed on how well you can catch up with everything on the thread!
