myneaux and june, can I just reassure you that I had ZERO baby experience before DS, I hadn't even changed a nappy before? We had a fairly busy social life before hand, but it's even busier and far better now we've had him. You just have more people round for dinner, lunches out etc. Childbirth is painful, but amazing and far easier than the 9 months before hand and the first two weeks of new baby. Don't let morons push their crappy opinions onto you. Hold on to who you are, and what you believe and you'll be fine.

P.S. Sorry if I come across as a moron, pushing my crappy opinion on you!!

strawberrysam So pleased your scan was fine. Sorry also to hear about your spinal probs. Yes, mine is SPD (feel a bit guilty moaning about it as yours sounds far worse). I was on crutches from 32 weeks with a belt, but was bed bound by 35 weeks. Luckily DS decided to come 3 weeks early.... the thought of a potential 5 more weeks of immobility may just have finished me off for good!! It pretty much went over the six weeks after he was born and I was walking after giving birth to him. It was funny as everyone was asking if I wanted to sit down, and whether I was in pain afterwards (as you'd imagine you would be). I couldn't sit down tho as I was so excited to be able to walk!! I was also in far less pain than I'd been before hand so I was skipping around!! (obviously until the lack of sleep made me a zombie)... Hope your spinal probs don't mean too much wheelchair time. xx

strawberrysam - great news about your scan!! must have cross posted earlier and I missed your good news!! you must feel like a huge weight has been lifted, and if u do carry on having these little bleeds (really hope not btw!) at least you will have this experience to lean on and remind you that it doesnt mean bad news

june - oh no is it raining down there?? my hair does NOT like the rain!! lol!

LittleSarah · 28/11/2008 15:59

StrawberrySam - So sorry, forgot to mention your scan! That's great news, bit of a PITA about the possibility of bleeding all through though you poor thing, hopefully it won't be too bad.

Ineed - Talking of poor things, on crutches! Ker-ist. I'm obviously skimming too much, I totally missed the fact you have SPD, although I admit I'm not positive what it means... I hope you're okay.

Llynn and June - Thanks for your words of support re colleague. I actually mentioned it to someone else who said he thought the tell tale one may have noticed I was down. Still, if so, why not say I seemed down/not myself or something? Who knows, he seems a nice guy so I think he probably meant no harm...

June - It's funny you use the word patronising as I get that a fair bit here. As I am a journalism student this is good experience for me (I do communications) and often people seem to think that that is all it is. They say stuff so is this useful to you, is this good experience and so on. Now, it is, don't get me wrong, but it is also a job. I work. Sometimes it's like they're doing me a favour, when I work hard just like them!

One guy asked me about what I do and so on and then asked if I got paid, when I said yes he said well that's not bad eh? As if I was lucky to be getting paid for working.

Now I've done plenty of week's work experience type things where you often don't get paid, but this is a job!

Oooh, I am ranty today eh?? LOl.

LittleSarah · 28/11/2008 16:00

They say stuff like...

Mhairi100 · 28/11/2008 17:03

Thanks so much for all your welcoming messages! Updated list below.

StrawberrySam, such great news about your scan!
LittleSarah and helpivegotogivebirth, excited about midwife appointment now, hope I do get to hear heartbeat!
Myneaux, I'm sort of feeling better now I'm nearly 14 weeks. MS nearly gone, but has been replaced by sicky feeling I'm getting from sharp ligament pains (well, I hope that's what they are!).
June2009, I'm the opposite to you with the curries, can't get enough of them? And chilli!

Hope everyone feeling a bit rough has nice weekends ahead.

Regarding unwanted advice (do you get less of this after the first one? NOT that I'm already thinking of the second!!):

I have already been told not to send my baby to a nursery but to a childminder, as they will get more attention. To be honest, I really haven't thought that far ahead! And my new boss told me this week that I should walk up the stairs throughout my pregnancy and not get the lift. I work on the sixth floor and am just getting over gastroenteritis, so not feeling the strongest. I will take the lift when I want! She has also told me that I am "still looking very thin", whilst staring at my middle. Grrr! Ineedmorechocolatenow, your type of advice is the best, other advice and comments I can do without (unless I ask for it!). Rant over!

loooouise · 28/11/2008 17:58

Hey Myneaux and June, it's my 33rd birthday on Christmas Eve, so like you I am very glad that my baby is going to have a lovely summer birthday.

It's interesting to hear that some of you are receiving lots of unsolicited advice after telling people your news. I'm dreading telling people, not least because people are obviously going to ask who the father is . Obviously my good friends won't judge me...it's just not how I envisaged announcing my first pregnancy. I was thinking of saying it was George Michael's or that I received a strange visitation from an angel.

Delighted to hear your good news, StrawberrySam!

LittleSarah · 28/11/2008 18:19

Looouise - I remember in my first pregnancy hating the thought that people were going to be talking about me, and judging me. And although I'm sure people did everyone was very lovely and supportive and that is what I really noticed.

I don't remember much unsolicited advice I admit, maybe I tuned out!

Dh's mum (who is great mostly!) was talking about it being best mum being home with kids a couple months ago, in quite a casual way, not in a I hope you will be way... Anyway, there is no way I can stay at home, I'm hoping to stay at home for a year but I don't know if that'll happen. It's great being at home (I was at home quite a lot with dd) but even if I could I think I'd want to work part-time, at least when wee one is 18 months or so, because I like to get out. (But that's just me!)
Anyway, basically I'll be ignoring comments like that, dh's mum has managed to get through her 48 years without working at all (she's a landlord now), so I don't think she's ever really had to worry about the choice to work or not!
Some people just don't think (that's what she is like, not mean, just free with her opinions), others are more self-righteous, but I think doing what is right for you and creating a happy home is what's important.

Dd goes to nursery - she gets enough attention at home!

loooouise · 28/11/2008 18:39

Thanks LittleSarah, you say the best things!

spongecake · 28/11/2008 20:31

hello ladies.. please can i join your thread? i am due in june , and have one ds who is 19/20 months right now. i feel sick ALL the time -which with ds went on til I was 5.5 months still at least, from reading a bit of the threads below, on the good side I haven't been getting nearly as much unsolicited interference advice

MrsMcJnr · 28/11/2008 20:37

I?m a bit behind, sorry! I have a horrible cold/cough thing which I am sharing with DS poor little mite but none of us are getting much sleep
Ahh even more behind now as wrote this the other night? will post it anyway and then do some more reading!
Tee ? LOL sounds like your DH?s comment about your profile was fuelled by pride nice to get an extra scan so glad all looks good in there! make sure you follow drs orders now!
Hello June, hope you enjoyed your hubbies dinner re the sneezing, I read that your immune system dips in the first 3 months so you don?t reject the baby and that is why you are more prone to bugs and allergies etc. I?ve been taking Pregnacare non stop since June 2004 when we started TTC DS!
Amsterdambaby ? last time we didn?t find out the sex but I was sure it was a boy and it was, this time we wanted to find out and like you would have been delighted with either but found out we are having a girl . I know my sis was disappointed for a mo after finding out she was having a 2nd boy and then felt horrifically guilty and regretted finding out at all. Good luck deciding
Ermintrude ? ouch poor you, hope the tooth is now sorted and that the MS is calming down. Mine is calming down but I still feel sick at least ¾ times a day haven?t actually been sick for a while though
Choccie ? keep on guessing hon can?t believe what your DH said, time for payback? have you ever sent him out for ice cream at 3am?! I?m emotional at the moment too. Missed something about your DH ?
Littlesarah ? keep trying with that Doppler sorry to hear that things feel like they are getting on top of you but it does sound to me like you are doing a lot and this is an exhausting stage of pregnancy. My advice would be to wait until the end of the year, it?s only a few weeks off and see how you feel then, you may be less tired and feel more able to cope or you may think that it is too much in which case you?ve given yourself some time to come to that conclusion. Your baby will be fine, repeat after me ?healthy and well?
Daisy ? you must be feeling better to attempt to clean the car I thought I might tackle the kitchen floor tomorrow it?s white tiles and I HATE IT Glad you got a dress sorry to hear you lost Iggle Piggle we lost DS?s ?cow? and there was hell to pay
Doris ? that is FABULOUS I am so pleased for you sorry you lost your lunch though!
Hey Jools so good to hear you feeling positive, what a lady. I felt a bit like you do now, once the bleeding had stopped it was a new chance for a BFP. I?ll be praying for you hon xx
Flynn ? hope you are ok, no more heavy boxes! Enjoy Dublin!!
Cote ? fabulous news, many congrats, I know I am biased but having a son is so wonderful, hope you get one who loves cuddles like mine
Looouise ? glad to hear you are feeling stronger that is an ironic tale indeed about your ?Friend?, your little one is going to love hearing your music by the way, play to him/her as often as you can now, it?ll be a soother when he/she arrives and a godsend!!
Strawberrysam ? sorry to hear you are feeling so crap, and about that bleed. If you don?t feel you can wait until 4th for a scan, get in touch with the EPU and get some reassurance x
Myneaux ? I?m going to look at the sun and make myself sneeze and see if it takes away my MS sadly though, with this cold I am sneezing all the time and all it does is remind me to do my pelvic floor exercises
Ineedmore ? hope all went well today
Hey Help
Leaky ? so glad you had a great scan

Llynnnn ? can?t wait to feel those movements either

Welcome and congrats SweetBOODY !
Champagne ? alternating hot and cold flannels has helped get rid of some of my migraines enough to sleep anyway.
Congrats on the scan Joyful eyes, hope you feel better soon

Tee and Ineedmore ? so glad the scans went well
Tee ? how are you feeling? Hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving 5 years ago on Thanksgiving DH and I and 4 friends were having a champagne breakfast in the Grand Canyon scary thing is that it feels like it was yesterday!
Champagne ? glad your scan went well but sorry to hear about the attitude of the sonographer I had one who was horrible during my pg with DS and I cried when I left because she?d spoilt the experience for me.
Innat ? I had a long commute with DS and arranged to work from home when I had appointments (which was a lot as I was high risk) any chance you can work from home on appointment days?
Bigcar ? how disappointing about your scan being cancelled! Hope yesterday?s went well
Strawberrysam ? so glad you went to the EPU hon and that all is ok. Why not put a post in ?pregnancy? about bleeds? You?ll get lots of responses from people who?ve been through the same and it may be reassuring. The ligament stretching starts before the 2nd trimester so it may well have been that you?ve been feeling.
Leaky ? I wasn?t trying for a girl, just another baby but both DS and this baby girl do follow the slow/fast swimmer theory sorry we?re not due date buddies anymore!
Welcome and congrats Mhairi100 ! Some cracking advice you?ve had already!
Littlesarah ? yay! The Doppler works! sorry about the niggling comments at work!
June2009 ? totally off chicken here there is so much contradictory advice out there and really the best thing you can do is trust your own instinct, you?ll know what?s best for your baby if you listen to it. Not saying other people?s advice isn?t helpful sometimes but there can just be too much. I remember feeling overloaded!
Help ? due date buddy my sickness seems to be following your plan too. I think it must be blood sugar dips don?t you?
Myneaux ? you?ll know what to do when your baby gets here people love to tell horror stories, enjoy the pregnancy and the excitement, it goes too fast and whilst your life does change after there is a third person to think about, I love every minute of my life with DS in it ? whoops unsolicited advice, sorry
Llynnn ? have a fab weekend
Myneaux, June and Loooouise ? my birthday is 29th December ? rubbish! I was 3 weeks early. I was actually due on my DS?s due date so I expected him from my birthday onwards but he turned up 9 days late!
Spongecake ? welcome and congrats

My poor cousin is now 10 days late and induction is looming? am sending her lots of labour vibes!!!

June2009 · 28/11/2008 21:39

MrsMcJnr Good to hear from you! I hope your cold gets better soon.

Do you guys know a site that is reliable for calculating how many weeks and days pregnant you are?

Been counting and recounting days on my little calendar and it's driving me nuts.
Someone replied to a thread I posted earlier today about this but it puts me a 13w+5 which I know I am not.

Or, could someone tell me if http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/pregnancycalendar/l/blpregcalc.htm this site works ok for their dates?

I just noticed that if I made my cycles 31 days instead of 28 (which I could work out if the numbers weren't dancing in front of my eyes right now!!) the baby would be due on my dad's bday and brother's name day!

Totally confused.
I think I need some chocolate.

June2009 · 28/11/2008 21:41

Sorry the link is as follows:

this site

bigcar · 29/11/2008 03:39

June, that link worked out right for me, although at this time of the morning it took me a while to realise the dates were done the US way and put the month first, so my baby isn't due in january

MrsMcJnr, hope the cough and cold are on the way out and you're all feeling a little better and getting some sleep. Dd3 has the same at the moment, since she started preschool in september she's picked up every bug going, I thought she might have got a bit of immunity from the older kids, they bring plenty home from school!

Daisy, hope Iggle Piggle isn't feeling to bad about being dumped for Thomas

I didn't get my scan again The consultant was dealing with an emergency, which of course I totally understand but they left us sitting there for an hour and didn't bother telling us. In the end we had to go as dd3 was at preschool and needed collecting, the receptionist got quite arsey with me, not exactly sure what she expected me to do. I'm seriously thinking about changing hospitals now, it's not the first time they've been rude.

I've found that you get a lot of unwanted advice for the first 2 dcs, then after that everyone feels it's open season to question the number of children you have I've learnt to smile and walk away

Hope everyone has a lovely relaxing weekend!

Tee2072 · 29/11/2008 08:40

june looks right to me, based on LMP, but based on my scans its about 2 days off!

LMP is really just an estimate, because you can ovulate different days during different months.

StrawberrySam - I gave in today too! Got some maternity clothes from H&M. Same price for four things as one Isabella Oliver top - still really want one of those though!!

Tee2072 · 29/11/2008 19:44

strawberrysam where did you order it from?

I am gong maternity clothes shopping this next week!

LittleSarah · 29/11/2008 19:44

Ooh and I found out today my cousin is pregnant, no 2 due on 27th May, very excited!

MrsMcJnr · 29/11/2008 21:36

June ? I didn?t have a period between DS and this pg so the site didn?t work for me!

Bigcar ? no way I am so sorry to hear that about your scan! I?d agree with you about a bad vibe from the hospital as they have done this to your twice now! Do you mind me asking what your age gaps are between DC? DH and I would ideally like 4 and there will be 16 months between DS and this baby but I have a feeling that I won?t be able to manage a 3rd until this baby is at least 1 1/2, would you agree? DH and I are 35 and he has a hang up about being an ?old? Dad if he has a baby near 40 (all to do with his own Dad who was an old 40!)

Strawberrysam ? hope the belly belt makes things a bit more comfy!

Littlesarah ? that?s fun about your cousin . My cousin had a baby girl today Paloma

Tee ? enjoy the shopping!

chocciedooby · 30/11/2008 08:56

Hi everyone.
MrsmcJnr - I had ds2 at 34 and now having dc3 at 38. I have many friends that have had babies around 40 or more and it's great. I don't think 40 is seen as being "too old" to have a baby anymore and we are all having our babies much later than our own parents did. I am anyway At least I will still be in my fifties when dc's can manage for themselves!!!!

I have an awful cough and cold and whereas the last cold I had I could drink lots of hot water with lemon and honey, this time I cannot seem to face it. I have gone off plain old water which is usually my favourite drink.(apart from vodka of course ).
I am also getting lots of headaches which is a nuisance. Have taken a couple of paracetamols to help. Also been getting a few dizzy spells. On a positive note my nausea is much better.
Girls - you have been doing well re: maternity clothes. I have been wearing them for the last 2 weeks!!!
