OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
leaky · 21/11/2008 13:29

Wow,fantastic news from all those who've had their scan already.I'm counting the days til mine now, just less than 4,94hrs to be exact!

daisy5 I read somewhere that it's also good with the statistics to remember that if they say you have a 1 in 50 chance of Down's etc it also means you have 49 out of 50 chance of having a completely normal baby.
I really am not worrying about it thou as I am a Christian & completely feel that God's been involved in this months before I even got pregnant (long story) I'm trusting Him to give me what He knows I can cope with A girl would be nice thou as boys keep getting louder & louder

Tee2072 · 21/11/2008 13:30

Of course its in the TARDIS! How silly of me not to realize!

flynn1984 · 21/11/2008 13:45

hiya all

for anyone wondering what a 4d scan looks like check out this website as it shows you examples.

www.babybond.com/4dscan.php

My SIL got one done and the movie of my unborn niece sticking out her tongue was amazing...wonderful thing technology.
Can the sonographer tell you at the 12 week scan what your having?

Tee2072 · 21/11/2008 13:51

Thanks for that flynn, but it still doesn't tell me what the 4th dimension is!!

flynn1984 · 21/11/2008 13:54

Tee to be honest I dont know what the 4d thing is either lol

daisy5 · 21/11/2008 14:04

Congrats innat and mrsmcjnr on the great scans. cote all the best for Monday.

tee is the 4th dimension time - i.e. the 10minutes it takes to film the 3D image??? Naturally, taken in a Tardis.

leaky - That's nice for your dh

I was getting curious about the different timings in finding out the gender at the scan and posted a message on the Pregnancy page and got these responses....

mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/651921-Some-doctors-sonographers-are-able-to-tell-gender-at-13

The annoying thing is I recall my sonographer saying something that made me wonder later if she realised what sex it was and now I am kicking myself for not asking if she had a hunch...

June2009 · 21/11/2008 14:14

My dh was asking the same question, how can it be 4D?

I'm gonna have to look this up now ;)

June2009 · 21/11/2008 14:23

It all makes sense now:

Found the following on this page

What's the difference between 3D & 4D image compare to the 2D?

The 2D (2 dimensional) image is the flat black and white picture that looks like an outline or skeletal image of your baby you get at your diagnostic ultrasound. The 3D (3 dimensional) image will look more realistic, like a detail photograph of your baby. The 4D (4 dimensional) actually uses the amazing 3D technology to view your baby in "live motion" like a video. 4D is when you get to see movements, such as kicking, waving, sucking their thumb, or even smiling.

I can't wait :D
But it's still ages before I can even start thinking about it.

I guess it also means that 3D/4D scans make it harder to keep the sex a secret.

Tee2072 · 21/11/2008 14:25

So they are defining the 4th dimension as motion? They totally made that up! But now it makes a little bit of sense!

CoteDAzur · 21/11/2008 14:41

June2009's link is totally made up:

Yes, 2D is a flat plane, a picture. It has only 2 vertical lines, X and Y coordinates. What they call "3D" ("more realistic, detail photograph") is still 2D, it is a picture on a flat screen. Even what they call 4D (moving picture, video) is technically 2D, a moving picture on a flat screen. There is the illusion of 3D, like with TVs, but it is not 3D like real life, where three vertical lines can intersect and there is real depth.

Call me picky, but this kind of pseudo-scientific explanation makes me doubt the technical capabilities of the professionals involved.

Innat · 21/11/2008 14:51

June2009 - if you don't want to know the sex it's not necessarily obvious at a "4d" scan.

My friend had one and by the time you have it the baby's are big enough that they can show you specific portions of the baby. So they just focused on the head and shoulders for her.

I was worried last time when i had a scan (not 4d) at 38 weeks to check position of baby coz i didn't want to find out sex, but the perspective and size of it was such that i couldn't identify anything at all - not even the head!

Salet · 21/11/2008 15:35

Hi all,

not been in touch for a while, I'm due on 20th June. All going Ok so far... Only just found the new posting.

I've been busy trying to get a new job...it's all getting me down now. Five weeks of looking for a new job and not one interview yet!

I'm worried sick that if I don't find something soon my pregnancy will start to show and then noone will employ me.

The day after I found out I was pregnant I was called into a meeting with my boss and the HR manager to say I had not passed my probation period. It was two weeks after the probation period had ended and was a complete suprise as they seem to have been happy with all the work I had done to date and I had met all my objectives. They didn't give much of an explaination but now It's becoming really akward to explain to prospective employers why I was only there for just over three months. I've just spent loads of money with a lawyer but he now tells me that it is going to come down to my word against theirs in terms of whether they are in breach of contract and owe me 3 months pay. Today I bailed out of fighting and paying expensive lawyers as it was getting too emotional and expensive!

Rant over, think I just need to get things off my chest as things are feeling pretty rubbish at the moment with my DH away and feel like I'm going mad at home all day looking at job websites....

Tee2072 · 21/11/2008 16:40

Hi salet

Good luck with the job hunt. They didn't give you any reason why you didn't pass probation? How odd!

June2009 · 21/11/2008 16:56

tee and cote Oh no, and I thought I had it all sussed now ;)

I haven't actually looked at where to have it done, a couple of people have mentionned babybond and it looks like if I wanted to do it week 27 that would be sometime in February. (so loong) They have a centre in "Golders Green" which I think in not toooo far.
Would anyone recommend anywhere in North London?

chocciedooby, we're scan dates buddies ;)
I'm 31 and it's my first
To be honest I haven't really looked into nuchal measurements etc. I wasn't even bothered about being tested but dh said we might as well and it does make sense that if our baby had Downs syndrom I'd rather be prepared for it.

I'm going to read about it though so I know what to expect at the scan.

I think I'm changing my mind about slightly about knowing the sex, I'm starting to think that actually it would be nice to know and get prepared.
I woke up at 5am and I could really "see" the nursery in my head.

Anyone else looking for names already? I'm getting worried that dh doesn't seem "ready" to choose one yet and everything I suggest gets a "mmmmm not sure". LOL.

June2009 · 21/11/2008 16:59

salet

I know it's not ideal but have you tried temping? I'm only suggesting it cause the only time I did it it lead to a more permanent position.

Tee2072 · 21/11/2008 17:03

june every time I suggest a name, DH shoots it down, until I finally said to him 'make me a better offer!' He's still to get back to me!

llynnnn · 21/11/2008 17:12

mrsmcjnr - congrats on the great scan and the news you are having a girl!! how exciting!!! and of course you can stay, wouldnt be the same without you!

innat - so pleased for your great scan too, must be a huge weight off your mind. hope you are feeling better in yourself today too

cote - good luck for your scan on monday hope all goes well!

all this talk of 2d, 3d and 4d has boggled my mind!! far too much for a friday afternoon i would LOVE a 4d scan this time, just can't justify the cost unfortunately

salet - sorry to hear about your job and such bad timing to find out such good news and such bad on the same day! hope you get something lined up really soon

june - we have sort of chatted about names but not come up with anything solid yet! with dd we only had her name and that was it!! no second choices and NOTHING if she had been a boy!!

CoteDAzur · 21/11/2008 17:36

We are lucky that 12 week scan includes nuchal and is '4D', all in one. We don't have to pay for it - all paid for by the state

MrsMcJnr · 21/11/2008 17:40

Sorry for the enormous post too much catching up to do! Thanks for all your nice messages for me

Bobswendy ? poor you I hope you are feeling much better

Stawberrysam ? your theory on the bleeds could have some truth in it as you are putting pressure on your cervix when you strain, have you asked them to check your placenta? It may be that it is close to the cervix and that?s why you are getting the bleeds. Scary for you, sorry this keeps happening.

Daisy ? hope you?ve been managing to get some sleep hon how are you getting on with eBay? DS thinks he is Iggle Piggle he even answers to it I know where you are coming from when you explained to Looouise about life before kids vs after, thank god I didn?t know how much I?d love being with my child when I was trying to build my career!! so glad the scan went well and those odds are fab.As you can imagine Dr B was very through with ours he is great isn?t he? He thinks he does remember you

Tee ? LOL like your idea for a petition there?s nothing like pg dreams are there? Sorry to hear you are feeling so low I?ve lost 6 pounds too but I needed to I guess and no one is worried sorry to hear about the hypo I think the 4th dimension is just real time as opposed to static. I?ve read that 3d and 4d are not that much more helpful from a medical perspective but my Dr seems to like to use it to see blood flow etc etc, fascinating really.

Littlesarah ? hope you have more luck with the Doppler soon last pg the placenta was to the back so it was easy to scan and hear etc but this time the placenta is at the front so apparently it?ll make it all a bit foggy, including feeling kicks I so love feeling them too! We were hoping for a honeymoon baby but we?ll still have 2 by our second anniversary! Hopefully! that?s so lovely how things worked out with your DD and her Dad

Flynn ? so glad it went so well at the scan hon Sorry about the insomnia I had a really bad night on weds night, I had a bad migraine and I was awake all night alternating cold and hot flannels thankfully it went away enough for me to get some sleep at 6am but DS woke at 7am I?m still suffering from MS too it?s worst at night actually, when I?m exhausted I guess. Enjoy the 4D, I didn?t have one last time but this dr has a machine that does all sorts of things and it is amazing to see. I already have a pic so I?ll post it on my profile

Loooouise ? lovely all babies are exciting but 1st ones are so special! I?m sure you and your baby?s father will come to a good arrangement with your child, especially if you are old friends there were at least 3 girls on my AN thread for DS who were on their own and there were some points that we envied them as they could just do what they liked and not have to worry about feeding a DH too what a dream you had! *18/11 13.35

Ermintrude ? LOL at your son?s comment about your tummy, sometimes kids are a little too frank aren?t they? so true what you said to Tee about how you feel about your DCs, my DH gets so angry because I won?t let him roll away from me in bed at night, I think I think he is DS and am worried he?ll fall out That book sounds hilarious Also, my Mum got listeria from Brie when pg with my sis, it was awful, I was 10 and remember it well ? no brie for me!

Welcome and congrats June try not too worry about your weight, I?ve always put on weight easily and it scared me too but with DS I put on less than 2 stone and I lost it all pretty quickly after the birth too. I have to say being pg was the 1st time I actually liked my tummy this time I have lost about 7lbs but then again I?m still a bit heavy (even though none of it is from DS ) sorry to here about your skin, mine is getting me down too I remember feeling a bit alone last pg because after all the initial excitement no one medical sees you for ages and then later in the pg you feel like you are going all the time! I bought ?What to expect when you are expecting? and it was fab as is ?What to expect in the first year? I looked at hundreds of names last time and Dh only liked 3 out of the whole lot!

Leaky all the best for Tues?s scan!

Choccie ? I?m craving citrus things, what I really want is those sorbets inside the lemons or oranges but can?t find any, with DS it was apples, I couldn?t get enough appley things.

Help ? hope the scan went well. I?ve got spots too The MS creeps up on me so suddenly that I am carrying nappy sacks around in my pockets (very handy as no holes!) with my DS I had perfect skin, wonderful nails and great hair (also was not sick at all), this time it has all gone to pot and I am having a girl that said, they say that no 2 pgs are the same don?t they? Incidentally both times I?ve had string gut feelings around 10 weeks about the sex and both times I appear to have been right.

Thanks for the good wishes Bigcar, hope your scan went well today

Cote ? all the best for the scan on Monday and I hope the baby isn?t too shy and you can tell the sex the system here is similar (well privately anyway) in that it?s a Dr I see throughout with a similar pattern to you. I think one of the best things is the scan at your due date, I didn?t have that in the UK and I think it is a positive thing. Birth is a scary thing here too though, nearly everyone has an epidural and an episiotomy and section rates are very high. They are not really up for you moving about, that said, things are changing a lot and my local hospital has just got some birthing pools I had a fabulous natural birth without any pain relief other than a tens machine and no interventions with DS and I am hoping (and praying) for something similar. He was born in Scotland and I have to say, the MWs were fabulous.

Ineedmore ? glad you got a scan date I?m thrilled to know the sex this time, I didn?t last time and it just feels right knowing this time, next time I might not, who knows can?t believe people were nasty, what damn right do they have?

Teeny ? so glad all is well

Myneaux ? so glad your scan went well and glad you had a good nuchal too, I find the whole idea of that scan scary too, like you, the scan was good enough for me and I didn?t do the associated blood tests. I have read about that rib flare thing before but can?t remember the details, pop a post in ?Pregnancy? and I?m sure someone will help

Leaky ? I was amazed that the Dr could tell me the sex yesterday (I?m 12+5) but when he showed us what we were looking for it was very clear, I guess it?s all about the technology they have. He is 99% certain. He showed us very clearly what would become the labia.

Llynnn ? sorry to hear about your cold, hope you feel better soon.

Mica ? sorry to hear you?ve had a hard time but glad all is well with your baby

Innat ? poor you feeling so low, glad all went well today and hope that it?s cheered you up no end

Salet ? you poor thing, just what you don?t want at the mo I hope something comes along very soon for you.

helpivegottogivebirth · 21/11/2008 18:47

I had my scan today and am feeling absolutely fantastic. last night felt like Christmas eve, waiting for Santa to come and deliver the pressies! Anyway it was an amazing experience - i'm 11 weeks 6 days and i couldn't believe how active it was. hurling its limbs about and arching its back .very cute. i feel so relieved and grateful. and it suddenly feels like it's really happening.
x

llynnnn · 21/11/2008 19:40

congrats on the great scan helpive!!! briliant news!!

mrsmcjnr - wow huge post!! good to hear from you!

June2009 · 21/11/2008 23:37

Geeee, anyone else finding hard to deal with anything or is it just me?
I get the impression from other topics/threads that at 12w you should still be able to live as normal and probably throw in some cartwheels everynow and then as well.

I feel rubbish tonight, probably because it's late and I should be sleeping instead of trying to bake a cake for dh's bday party tomorrow!!

right, rant over, off to sleep now ;)

Tee2072 · 22/11/2008 12:28

Morning all.

Every time I forget for a few minutes that I am pregnant, I get reminded. Today it was by immense nausea in Tesco, of all places. I actually stopped in the middle of the aisle and held onto a display rack it was so bad. My DH thought he might have to rush me to the loo, but I managed to not hurl!

Hope everyone is having a peaceful weekend!
