Trib, what brilliant news for your brother and family It's very reassuring that the panel have considered all the 'real' implications that families go through when they have children and that they decided to allow the adoption.

I'm flipping knackered!!

Eeeeuuuugh Glad I wasn't in on the liver discussion. Can't bear offal of any kind. No way, no how.

I've been so preoccupied with this stupid loft I haven't given the birth a moments thought. Reading about you all discussing baby's position has made me think though. This baby had better be in the right position for birth, unlike dd, so we can all have a better time of it come B-Day!

I think that's all I have the energy for todaoy

By the way, what happened to Nab?

bubbaloo · 17/03/2005 19:40

evening all,
havent been around for a few days as im having an absolute nightmare with my bank, which im desperately trying to sort out.had my cards "cloned" about 5 wks ago(and £1,000 taken) and now abbey national dont believe me and wont give me my money back
havent had time to read through all the messages yet but what fantastic news, trib.i bet your brother is over the moon
mrsw-re:the iron tabs.i suffer from pernicious aneamia anyway and have to have injections every 3 months because of it and my iron levels arent that good.my gp has now tried giving me 2 different types of iron tablets but i took them for only a couple of days as they really upset my tummy.i wish they DID make me constipated but i suffer very badly from IBS and they made it 100 times worse so ive just decided to eat lots of iron rich foods instead.checked with my doc and this is ok
spinach, cereal and red meat are good aswell as having orange juice(like someone else mentioned)and tomatoes with your meal which helps absorb it.
have steered completely clear of all nuts during this pregnancy as ive lots of allergies, but i think peanuts are ok if you dont suffer from any allergies
blimey, ive just read this back and it makes me sound like i should be on the scrap heap, with all my ailments but funny enough since getting pregnant ive never felt better

PinkArjuna · 17/03/2005 20:20

Tens machines? I got a new one from ebay - I looked at the rental price and it is only a few pounds cheaper than the mama/femme tens new. Also you have to pay top ups if you go over and you won't have one at all if you are early. I plan to sell it on afterwards so I won't have really spent much.

Nobody has yet tried to touch my bump. I bought a T shirt from nappy head embossed with 'don't touch the bump' and haven't had to wear it yet. I must just not be an inviting person Thank god I would knock em out honestly...

The bump is growing way too rapidly now and I am doing the strangest contortions to get clothes and socks on. I am little impressed to be honest. I still find it rather a surreal experience to be honest. Hope everyone is well.

PinkArjuna · 17/03/2005 20:26

Thats great news tribpot I don't know why they were considering it anyway. For natural parents its easier to take your kid home than get a pet from the rspca....

uwila · 17/03/2005 20:37

I think the peanut thing is for if your baby is predisposed to having asthma, than eating peanuts MIGHT enhance the chances of it developing. As far as I know, the proven link is very weak. I guess if either DH or I had asthma I might steer clear, but since we don't, I eat a scrumption peanut butter and jam sandwich every morning... yum!

Also, on the vitamin A, I think that veggie sources of vit A are fine (like spinach) it's just liver products that you are supposed to avoid (and that includes cod liver oil)

uwila · 17/03/2005 20:40

Oh oh... forgot my bump story. My bump is nobody's property but mine. Some people mentioned on the May thread a while back that coworkers would tounch their bump. An I thought Oh glad that hasn't happened to me. Well about two days later it did happen to me at work, but I couldn't really slap the person who did it because she was about 8 1/2 months pregnant. If it had ben a man, I would have touched his belly back. But, somehow, I don't think it would have put her off.

And last but not lease.... So please for your bro, Trib. YIPPPPEEEEEEE!!!!

Lua · 17/03/2005 20:47

Trib, I am soo happy for your brother! As someone else said, can't believe they actually did the reasonable thing!!! Worray for you and him!

Bubaloo, sorry to hear the bank is giving you trouble! This is bad time for this kind of stress Why did they change their mind?

On the peanut front, I heard is not recomended when you or dh have any kind of allergies... but as Uwila said I also got the impression that the link is not terribly strong. I truly hope so because there is a long story of autoimunne diseases in DH's family , but I love peanuts, specially when pregnant and as DH said I have eaten DD weight's in peanut during the last pregnancy... I just stop this time around when I heard the link, but I have already eaten tons too

Hello All
Fantastic news Trib, what a relief after all that!!!!

Tea-You asked about my ante natal care in Oz, I think it is really good, but i have nothing to commpare it to. I do shared care with my doctor and the Birth Centre i kinda get checked every 2-3 weeks. Although i think at the 24th week you only needed one appoint for a month, after 30 it is every 2 weeks.
Just had my second glucose test this morning, heard baby's heart and all, she said my baby was quite low but not engaged. I really like having checkups to know all is well and good.

KVG asked about moany woman, Yes it all seemed a storm in a tea cup, but i was so emotional last fortnight i counldn't handle it, i don't know if you read it or not but she complained i bent over and she could see the top of my knickers!!!
Was a bit angry boss didn't tell me all in the first place, so i kinda told him off and said i will teach class but don't want to hear anymore unresonable complaints from her>

I had two appoints with hospital counsellor who was really nice and helped me get my emotions in check. I'm making use of all the servies may see the physo about back as well since it's free.

Yesterday was probably the first day i didn't have chocolate, but after reading posts i need some now.
I remember having the most beautiful chocolate in Venice 3 years ago, ah wouldn't it be nice to be there!!!!

Bye for now

Morning all,
DD is taking her 6 am starts quite seriously these days so here I am again. It is interesting to hear your experiences Uki. I agree grab everything while it is free, especially dental work. My friend had all her braces fitted when she was in the post preg freebie bit and saved a fortune. I haven't had one glucose test (and don't imagine I will) and you have had two. I have only had one blood test so far too and I don't think they are taking any more until week 30 or something. I was chatting to my mum last night and mentioned that there was only about 13 weeks to go and she got so excited it was really funny. It is like she won't let herself get too excited too early as the pregnancy will last forever for her, but me saying 13 weeks has made her realise it is not that long really. She is coming out to visit in a week and a half and I can't wait. Last time she was here I was 6 weeks preg and very tired and feeling sick with some bleeding problems too so we did very little as I was dripping around and too tired to go out much. This time I have a whole trip organised including two overnight stays away I think. A mini break for us all. Then my Dad is out at the end of April and then we will all be on countdown. The cake is a success so far if a bit lopsided due to our crap oven. I can get it to sit straight though by balancing up the two halves so no probs there. Had better go, dd is trying to ride her trike around the front room but has not really mastered it yet and keeps getting stuck. She has her poncho on over her pj's this morning, back to front and inside out but will she let me touch it 'NO WAY MUMMY!'
Have good days all.

Morning everyone Long day ahead pour moi with various things.

I haven't been half as well read this pregnancy as the last time. I need to start taking it more seriously I thought the peanut thing, apart from suspected links to other allergies, was also to avoid the possibility of developing a peanut allergy itself? Like everyone has said, I think the risks are pretty low.

katzguk · 18/03/2005 09:22

morning all!!

just as a point of interest on the whole peanut allergy front, research from the USA (where peanut butter is a major part of their diet) peanut allergies are no higher!! plus my GP told me to eat nuts because when i had the HE because they are high protein for very little bulk! and great when you feel sick! but she did check that we had no nut allergies in the family.

Got a busy day at work today too, meeting all pm with the indutsrial sponsors of my project, who want a product now!! but they'll be lucky to get one by this time next year!

Oh my gosh it's so quiet today

I think it's because it's so bloody gorgeous outside !!! It's sunny and warm here and generally fab! Dd played outside for 45 minutes yesterday without any 'intervention' from me Today she has a friend coming round so, hopefully, that time will double!!!

The back door is open and the house feels so diffferent with fresh air coming in! I do open windows and air the house in the winter too, but this feels wayyyyyy different.

KVG, I'm not sure it's possible to go 'off topic' on this thread Good luck to your dp, very important to be in a job you like, imo!

Errrr what is the Gold Cup ?

katzguk · 18/03/2005 12:14

its always quiet on a friday, and the weekend too generally.

just discovered some new crisps!! wheat crunchies - very yummy!!

I typed this hours ago, but we had no internet connection. So, it's hardly good morning now, but oh well, might as wel post...

Mornin' ladies!

How is everyone on this fine day? 'tis Friday... yippee! And I'm still so happy for brother Trib. Yahoo!!!!

As for Nannythug, I think I've about run out of patience. This morning I put on her most hated shirt of DD's (put it on DD, God knows it wouldn't fit around me!). Before I left, the shirt was back on her changing table... ooooooooo, it was all I could do to contain myself. So I sunk to very low level of maturity. When nanny was asking DD if fhe wanted some toast, I looked at DD and said with a smile "eggs are better". I left the kitchen, walked back in about 30 seconds later, and nanny was saying "toast?" and DD was saying "Egg". He he... Oh, I know I should grow up. But, it was such fun! And, also I checked into the options of redundancy vs. actually terminating her failure to perform the job she was hired to do, and both seem to be potentially rather sticky situations. If I make her redundant, than I'm not sure if I can offer the same job to someone else in 3 months time. If I fire her (which incidentally sounds like great fun sometime) but then I have to live with a potentially scorn and disgruntled employee until she leave. And, if I fire her on the spot and tell her to leave immediately, then I don;t have to live with her and worry about what she might do in my house when I am gone... but I don't have the heart to do that because she really hasn't done anything SO bad that it warrants making her homeless on the spot.

So, I just stooped to being a sharp and snappy immature brat today. And, it put such a smile on my face when I heard DD asking for "egg".

On another note, does anyone else get these braxton hicks contractions. I kept getting it last night whenever I wouls stand up of lift something. It went on for a couple of hours. I started to wonder if it was stress related. I think Lua was getting them a while ago. OR have I confused you with someone else, Lua?

Would you believe it's almost 9:00 and I have yet to eat some chocolate. I'm slacking off!

tribpot · 18/03/2005 14:01

Arfternoon ladies!

Thanks so much for all your Yahoos and general good wishes for my bro. I really am over the moon for him, they've been through such a horrendous time first ttc (for like YEARS) and then two rounds of adoption - I don't think they could have taken a third if this one had been knocked back. I must say, anyone who thinks of adoption as the 'easy option' compared to fertility treatment is definitely kidding themselves. (Some friends of mine made this remark to me not long ago, unfortunately I may have given them a wee bit of a mouthful about adoption in return.)

Uwila - hope you can find a relatively painless way to get shot of the nanny, it really all does sound like it's getting out of hand. I like the brainwashing of dd - since nanny insists on feeding on demand, surely she had to cook the egg once dd demanded it?!

KVG - best of luck to dh. My midwife said it was too early for parentcraft classes yet, I wouldn't hear about them til week 32 (I'm at 26 today). Alarmingly, she asked me if I wanted to sign up for them even though I've been asked this at every previous midwife appointment.

Bubba - sorry to hear about your card cloning, that sounds like a nightmare. Is the problem the length of time it took you to notify them? Has your IBS improved in pregnancy? (There was a thread about this I think). What a shame dh can't be pregnant for me as it might improve his symptoms a bit! (Plus he is much more used to pain than I am).

Braxton Hicks - I haven't had any yet, I asked the midwife how you could tell that they were BH and not 'the real thing'. She claimed that Braxton Hicks aren't painful, is that true, or just a story they tell first-timers to placate them?

I spoke to my mum last night to find out she's been telling all the women in the charity shop where she works about how I am planning to use cloth nappies. Of course they are all most impressed, being of the pre-disposable generation and think that I am ace. Must make sure that the bean is never in a disposable when I go in the shop at least, in order to keep them happy In fact my mum still has the cloth nappies she used on me and my bro, I think I am meant to ask if I can use them but they are the square sort you have to use pins with - very twentieth century

Lovely day here, hurrah for spring!
