Missy Its i'm at work and cant access my hotmail but if you send it there I will definately have a look when I get in tonight.

its [email protected]

SpangleMaker · 13/11/2008 12:26

Looby hope the doc manages to sort out your headaches.

MissyK I'd love to see your pics if you figure how to put them on!

Thanks everyone for the buggy advice. The car boot business will be the main priority. Beyond that I'm finding it hard to think what I'm going to be using it for most (obviously, pushing baby around!) as I'm sure my lifestyle will change so much when this one arrives. ATM I don't wander around the local towns much because I work in Manchester & get everything I want from there. But I know that will change, even if it's just to get out of the house. We don't do much hiking but do like the odd country walk/National Trust properties etc; but then we'll probably have a sling/baby carrier too... so you can see why I'm confused!

The sonographer said she wasn't allowed to tell me the results of the scan, said I'll have to wait to see the obstetrician. Does anyone know if you normally see a doctor at the 20w scan? Otherwise my next hospital appt is end of Jan and I'd really prefer to know what's going on before then. I'm seeing the midwife next Tues so I will ask her then.

She said they scan lots of pg women and there is generally no problem, just a precaution. Still, a bit annoying to be kept waiting.

MissyK · 13/11/2008 12:29

SweetBROODY I have sent you some scan pictures, there were loads more but I hope these help. The email will show as from Kirsty Ennett

SweetBROODY · 13/11/2008 12:32

Fab - I cant wait.. I have a consultant appointment so off to that now - but hopefully catch up with you ladies soon

I'm thinking of getting a few little things and leaving them at my mums.. it doesnt count if I dont have it hear right!

MissyK · 13/11/2008 12:35

SpangleMaker I have failed miserably in putting my pictures up but if you'd like to send me an email address I can send you some now.

flippineck · 13/11/2008 12:40

Frazzled - stretchy wraps are really good with newborns, for example Kari-Me, Moby, Huggabub, plus others I can't think of atm! The wrapping looks complicated, but it's not that bad at all, and the the good thing about stretchy wraps is that you generally only need to put them once in the morning (or whatever) and then you can pop baby in and out as required.

I had a Kari-Me, and DD and I loved it. She settled realyl well and was really calm in it, would sleep well and I could do other stuff (drinking tea, eating biscuits, watching day time tv...). The downside I guess is that you can a bit warm after a while! I've been looking at Baby Bali Stretch wraps as they seem to be a lighter weight fabric but wtill with a stretch, but I'm not fond of the colours.

The other downside with stretchies is that as LO gets heavier they stretch more and don't tend to be as supportive. I used the Kari-Me until DD was about 7 months old and then switched to a woven wrap.

Sorry, that's long, but I know more about slings than pushchairs!

Moonlit · 13/11/2008 13:04

Wow...a lot has gone since I last posted. After my scan on Friday, I became really poorly.

Anyway, first things first. Lots of love and positive vibes to those of you going through a tough time at the moment. I hope your loved ones are their to help you get through it.

Jools - I don't know if you are still reading this thread. I was so sad to read about your mc. Lots of love and best wishes to you.

Ok my stats came back from my nuchal scan and bloods a few days ago. For Down Syndrome its 1:44000 (we are very pleased) So we have been blessed with a healthy little one.

Does anyone no how to get rid of a tickley cough? Every time I cough, I also vomit. Which believe me, is not pleasant. So far I have tried; strepsils, honey and lemon in water, honey/lemon/glycerine (the only thing pregnant women can have according to the pharmacist). BUT NOTHING WORKS!!!! I am getting quite fed up.

I have a Baby Bjorn, which I love. So we will start of using that. Although, I do have my eye on the Quinny Buzz. With our DD we bought a Mamas and Papas three wheeler, which was crap, so the following month after her birth we bought a Quinny Zapp, which was great with the Maxi Cosi car seat.

Ok cough/vomit is back....must go

frazzledoldbag34 · 13/11/2008 13:15

ooh, just had homemade egg mayo on granary bread for lunch. Wonderous!
but just spilt hot chocolate on my lap top - not so good.
Congrats moonlit on the 1:44000. That is excellent!
Can't believe so many people have had poor experiences of Mamas and Papas stuff - I don't know anyone who really liked their M&P. (I hated mine, it was rubbish).
Thanks flippin for the wrap info - will have a look at the Kari-Me. There is one in Mothercare called (I think) the BabaSling. But TK Maxx (next door to my Mothercare!) have them in at the moment for about half price (£20 instead of £40). Wondered if anyone has experience of these........will grab a bargain if they are any good????

frazzledoldbag34 · 13/11/2008 13:18

By the way, anyone else getting really brooooody? All this talk of baby slings and cots and stuff is getting me in the mood for a baby NOW!
I've still got 26 wks to wait....boo

pulapula · 13/11/2008 13:21

Buggies- can't get enough of them! Although must admit I go for the many cheap ones- never spent more than £100 (M+P Aria) which we got as we borrowed the M+P car seat from SIL so didn't need to buy a whole travel system. Then got an umbrella fold stroller from Mothercare £20 for DD when we went abroad when she was 6mo. Then got a Maclaren double buggy for £10 on ebay (which has just broke!) and a brand new travel system on ebay for £30 (£100 in Argos) as all our friends/family were having babies so couldn't borrow a car seat again.

I fancy a Phil and Teds and have a friend who might have finished with hers, so will see if I can buy it off her. DS will be nearly 2 when LO comes, so will need a double buggy for school run next Sept when DD starts.

frazzledoldbag34 · 13/11/2008 13:22

ok, so now even more broody having just been on the Kari-Me website and seen all the babas in their cosy slings......they do look fab flippin but do you need a degree in fabric-tying to be able to put it on? It looks like it is quite complicated.

frazzledoldbag34 · 13/11/2008 13:28

Re: listening to beans with a doppler - I heard my beans heartbeat at about 9 wks, but it took me AGES of fiddling about to find it and eventually only got it in one very specific position. I think it depends where your baby is lying. (the best position is to be listening in is over the baby's left shoulder, but until they are much bigger it's obviously impossible to tell where that might be!) At this stage they are often found far lower down near your pubic bone than you might imagine.
Even last night when I listened in (and I"m 14 weeks now) it took me a good 10 mins to find the heart (kept finding the placenta but no baby) - but it turns out that was because it was busy leaping about and wasn't in any one place for more than a few seconds. Much easier to find them if they are sleeping (or not hyper as mine appears to be!)
Please, don't let me have a hyper child!

MrsEvs · 13/11/2008 13:31

Wow, can't beleive the push chair debate is on the go already! I have to say I couldn't stand any of the "big" push chairs I tried. I did have a travel system one, but as soon as either of my little ones could even vaguely hold their heads up, they went straight into a light McClaren. I also got the McClaren double when DD2 was born and I really like it - though it is a side by side it fits through a normal doorway and was easier to manouever than my travel system single! I actually didn't end up using it that much though, DD1 was 20 months when DD2 was born, so I thought I'd need it for control purposes as much as anything else, but she always just wanted to walk. Would love a new "infant" push chair as I really don't like the one I have but I just don't think I'll swing it past DH as we already have 4 push chairs (travel system one, single McClaren, double McClaren, and a bike trailer double that turns into a push chair too)!!!!

V. jealous of those of you with Dopplers - would love to hear bambinos heartbeat again, but I do think I'd drive myself mad with it! I actually heard DD1's heartbeat on a Doppler at 7 weeks at my first appt, so at this point I would think we'd all be able ti hear them? Obviously no expert though....

EmmalinaC · 13/11/2008 13:33

Am amazed at that everyone thinks M&P stuff is rubbish - we love ours. It's a Pliko P3 but I'm not sure if they still make it.

Frazzled thanks for the tips on double buggies - I think a second hand one is a great idea. Not sure I could justify spending £800 on one!

frazzledoldbag34 · 13/11/2008 13:36

mrsevs - I've got a borrowed doppler from a friend so daren't send it to you so you could have a go - but if it were mine I would!
However, I've had it for ages (since about 6 wks) and have honestly only used it about 3 times. I guess it would be reassuring if I had a bleed or some reason to worry, but otherwise I don't generally feel the need to listen in. I only did it last night cos I was fiddling around looking for something in a drawer and pulled out the doppler box by accident!

pulapula · 13/11/2008 13:36

I've tried using my doppler a few times, at 10, 11, and 12 weeks. Not been able to locate HB yet (found mine tho!) but not worried as its still early and I saw baby on the scan last Friday and I have my nuchal scan this afternoon (5.30pm) so I will get a good look at baby then.

MrsEvs · 13/11/2008 13:36

Anyway all, we are off to Florida today to the "Happiest Place on Earth" - am hoping it still will be as DD1 has a HORRIBLE cough and DD2 has "pink eye" (conjunctivitis) - ugghh why do these things always happen right before you travel!

We'll be back Wed next week, I'm sure it will take an enternity to catch up after that!! Have a great weekend all!

pulapula · 13/11/2008 13:37

And I should say I am a practiced doppler user too- used to find HB quickly every time with DS although didn't get it til 15 weeks so guess its easier then. So if you are a new user, I wouldn't worry if you can't find HB.

MrsEvs · 13/11/2008 13:42

Thanks frazzled! It would be a bit of an epic journey just for a quick heartbeat listen!

pulapula hope the nuchal goes OK. I wouldn't be worried either, I think it really does depend on position of the bean, plus I'm certain that there's a good bit of skill to it too that docs and MWs are well practiced at.

Fryn · 13/11/2008 14:42

Hello everyone,

Haven't posted in weeks, as I had a panic and didn't want to jinx it by talking about it! However, had the dating and nuchal scan this morning, and she said junior looked "perfect", so that was a relief. Have to wait 2 weeks for the Downs results, but she pointed out the nasal bone and the nuchal fold thingy was only 1.3mm, so I'm hopefuly it's all ok. The only thing was, the little one was either fast asleep or refusing to perform for the camera as s/he didn't move at all, which was a bit disappointing. I intend to drink a can of Coke and jump up and down before the next scan!

Congrats to everyone who's had a good scan, and I'm so sorry to hear about those who haven't made it. My thoughts to you all.

llareggub · 13/11/2008 14:46

I usually feel some movement when I drink a very cold glass of milk. Anyone else noticed this?

pulapula · 13/11/2008 14:54

llareggub,

I dont think i feel movements yet but think they say if you are concerned that baby hasnt moved then cold milk is a good thing to take, so guess that would make sense.

Emmalina, I would defn recommend the phil&teds. Although it's heavy now, it's because both girls are bigger (nearly 3 and 1). if i had to buy another double one it would be the same. i absolutely love the cocoon/carrycot for the baby.
