FiKelly · 12/11/2008 21:16

but i meant to say closer to the time of arrivals!!

llareggub · 12/11/2008 21:18

We're going to get the Amby hammock. I've heard great things about it. DS had a moses basket which he refused to sleep in, so I gave that away.

He spent his first five months in his carrycot, which served us well until he transferred into his cotbed. Obviously he is still in that so thought I'd let him keep it!

This new baby will get nothing new, so thought we'd splash out in the Amby hammock for him or her. I am hoping it will help new baby sleep far better than his or her big brother has!

divedaisy · 12/11/2008 21:23

just havin a look on ebay for the amby nature hammock - some really good offers there, even some with good value buy it now. I have a handmade crib my step-father made for DS and will be using it again. Though the thought of the amby providing all that promised sleepful nights is very tempting!

I'm gonna have a look at the bugaboo chameleon pram now!!!

FiKelly · 12/11/2008 21:33

divedaisy I have a bugaboo chameleon :O it's such a joy to push i've never felt the need to buy another pram... We & DS just love it. i've never had a struggle/tussle to get him to want to go in it. It must be a really comfy ride

My post natal friends from having DS 2yrs ago have a variety of prams and now all I see them pushing are the collapsible maclaren techno type prams as they find their old ones too heavy & awkward...

Jennster · 12/11/2008 21:34

Divedaisy Irn Brew is made from GRRRDRRRS so perfectly safe

SpangleMaker · 12/11/2008 21:36

agooboo it's mint. Was feeling a bit full after my baked potato but now I have raised everyone's expectations I may have to have some!

You experienced mums, yes please do share your wealth of knowledge, it will be very gratefully received I don't have many close family/friends with babies, none nearby and no experience so I'm going to be totally clueless.

I will definitely not worry about trying to get stuff done. I wasn't worried when I was knackered in the 1st trimester so I certainly won't be when I have a baby to occupy me. I've ordered Jamie Oliver's latest book for DH for Christmas and told him he needs to make himself handy in the kitchen. It's ironic, he designs them for a living and raves to customers about how great various hobs/ovens/etc are, yet all he can cook is pasta & sauce!

Re the Amby hammock, they sound really good and am seriously thinking about it. The whole pushchair/pram business seems so complicated and different people seem to rave about different ones, I'm not really sure what my priorities are.... too confusing! Time for ice cream I think.

llareggub · 12/11/2008 21:38

I have a Quinny Buzz and a Zapp. I used the Buzz if we are going to be out and about for the day and I think DS will want a nap in it. The Zapp is great for quick runs into town.

I bought the buzz because I was seduced by the claim that it is suitable up to age 3, which it is, but DS is a zippy little walker at age 2 and much prefers to walk. I think our buggy days with him are definitely fading away.

We'll reuse the buzz for this baby, I was very happy with it. DS slept in the carrycot so it was good value altogether, really.

SpangleMaker · 12/11/2008 21:49

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!!

MrsEvs · 12/11/2008 21:53

I drove my husband mad when pg with DD2 about this beautiful wooden bassinett I fell in love with, which he didn't want me to get because we already had a moses basket from DD1. In the end my friends bought it for me as a suprise, so don't get me started on another thing! (Dragging fingers forcefully away from the e-b-a-y keys - arggghhh)

Spangle I always have a much thinner face when pg because I'm not drinking! Booze bloats the face really quickly and it's amazing how quickly my cheekbones return when I get knocked up

FiKelly · 12/11/2008 21:56

My 2 pennies worth on prams is go to places that have a wide selection. Don't be embarrassed to try them out yourself in the shop with the demonstrators help.

Have a go at pushing them... manoeuvring around obstacles etc, collapsing it & popping it back up, putting the car seat on if it does that etc.

Most importantly make sure it will fit in the car where you want to put it.. eg the boot?! and there are the reviews of quite a few on mumsnet of course... I used them when hunting for ours last time. A lot of new ones have come out since then...

divedaisy · 12/11/2008 22:02

I think the Bugaboo is very expensive. My FIL bought us our M&P Pliko and it was dear enough and I HATED it. I like the concept of the Jane with the (?) Matrix car seat (the one that lies down and can sit up). I think it's still early days, but i am interested in reading the pros and cons of them! It's a pity there are no shops out there that will hire one for a day or two so we can try them out before we buy...

I wonder how Jools is doing...x

And if you are tall, get a pram with handles that go REALLY high, because you will bust your back pushing it. Maclaran Techno XT and the newer more expensive one goes high. Buzz and Buggaboo and Phil and Teds go high too. All the other brands seem to extend half to one WHOLE inch. Big whoop.

FiKelly · 12/11/2008 22:12

I've been a good girl tonight... I've updated my blog and ravelry page with a free pattern for a 15cm multi colour floral crocheted blanket square. I made 4 blanket squares for a joint blanket i'm doing with some other mumsnetters on ravelry. They turned out so well I thought i'd better write them up. The 1st one is done... now just the other 3 to go! Not tonight though.

frazzledoldbag34 · 12/11/2008 22:34

ooh have just put a bid on an Amby hammock on ebay. Its a white one. Am very excited! Hope I 'win' (although wouldn't you think if you 'won' something it would be free?........) Sorry, but I always think that when I hear 'Congratulations you've won the ........ please pay now!'

Regarding prams I have had lots, and am now a total bore because all I can and will say on the matter is:
'if you can possibly afford it, BUGABOO CAMELEON, BUGABOO CAMELEON, BUGABOO CAMELEON'.
There, said it, will shut up about it now. Expensive it certainly is, but it's bloody brilliant and you'll never have to spend money on another buggy. (Wish I'd known that 4 prams ago, would have saved myself a fortune).

Anyway feeling totally knackered, and a bit ropey (terrible nights sleep last night with DD up and down) so off to bed in a minute.

Too tired to look through all the posts for the lady with the headache, but I am a bit worried about you so please go to the doctors and get that checked. Bad headaches may be hormonal but they could also be symptoms of something else....please go and get a quick check up.
Night x
Love to Jools by the way (if you're around)

Momino · 12/11/2008 22:37

good eve ladies and beans. am jealous over the talk of fancy pushchairs. we're stuck with a mud-crusted Phil and Teds double buggy that has been on too many dog walks. i have no choice. though i don't believe i'll be doing any dog-walking with three little ones next year - will have to save that for dh as an after-work priviledge.

i secretly want a bugaboo but it's not to be. We do have a Maclaren techno XT which is marvellous but i'll need to take baby on my front and toddler on the buggyboard... no hand available to hold the dog lead? Poor George, the border collie - would do much better with some sheep but instead we keep crowding him with children.

MsG, i understand a little how you feel. i work from home and am constantly working late to make it fit in with taking care of DDs. i've been really demotivated lately and it's tough to find the energy to get much done. that's why you'll find me on MN! I'm taking a break. again.

FiKelly · 12/11/2008 22:43

I'm off to bed... suddenly got v tired. Fingers crossed we all have a good night xoxox

OK so can the Bugaboo Chameleon fold up to fit in the boot of a small car?

Everywhere we go involves a car journey as we're fairly isolated here, and because of where I need to park I'm limited to a small car (DH's car's bigger, fine for outings as a family, but I'll be using mine nearly all the time when on mat leave).

DH would flinch severely at the cost as he thinks we will be having BIL's (unfortunately they will still be using it for DN2) but I have a few persuasive tactics saved for such occasions, usually revolving around the fact a few yrs ago he bought an old sports car - so that excuse still has some mileage in it! (groan)

llareggub · 12/11/2008 23:24

Well, I have a very small car, and I know that the quinny buzz won't fit in it at all. I think the bugaboo is a similar size.

I have a Fiat 500, which is very small indeed!

frazzledoldbag34 · 13/11/2008 08:29

My friend has a mini and was when she was researching prams discovered that the bugaboo and the Bebe confort Lula were the only ones (she could find) that fit. (obviously much smaller umbrella fold ones do too, but she was looking for the ones that are like a travel system with carry cot, chassis, pram bit, fit the car seat etc).
Bugaboo doesn't 'fold' particularly small but does go quite flat - but as the chassis and seat/carrycot bit come off before it's folded it's easier to squeeze in I guess (easier than one that folds in one piece and ends up bulky I mean).
(My car has a massive boot so, as I'm a lazy cow, I tend to sling my bugaboo in unfolded!) However, it does literally only take a matter of seconds to fold/unfold ONCE YOU HAVE GOT THE HANG OF IT! (I got the lady in John Lewis to teach me, as I'm rubbish with instructions..........as I said, lazy and unable to follow simple product instructions.........I am painting a wonderful picture of myself here aren't I???!!!)
Better go and do something useful now. DH doing school run so should at least get showered and dressed before he returns.
Hope everyone has a lovely day.

frazzledoldbag34 · 13/11/2008 08:33

By the way, in case you're curious my friend (above) bought the Bebe confort Lula. She used it for the first 6 months then bought one of those super small fold up buggies - I forget which one. She only uses the Lula now if she's walking near the house and doesn't bother with it in the car. Not sure why this is - maybe it actually doesn't fit too well or maybe she's just fed up of it? Bit of a shame as it was pretty expensive - £3-400 ish I think with all the bits.
God, someone stop me talking about prams PLEEEEASE!

Really, I should open a pram shop.

Hmm, adds to today's 'To Do' List.

llareggub · 13/11/2008 08:38

I think the problem with the bigger buggies is that they get so heavy as baby turns into a hulking great toddler. The little umbrella buggies fold into hardly anything and weight nothing at all in comparison with my quinny buzz.

frazzledoldbag34 · 13/11/2008 08:41

spangle - if your DH is anything like mine (and all my friends DH's / DP's come to think of it) - they ALL flinch and moan and whinge like mad at the cost of ANY baby equipment. (To be fair, baby stuff is hideously expensive but there are ways round it - buy baby equipment in the january sales, TK maxx has fab travel cots, sterilisers, bottles, baby monitors etc for loads cheaper, ebay, surf the web and often get big discounts etc etc - it just takes a bit of time and patience).
Anyway, men do just moan, they don't understand why you need it all. However, after the baby's born they soon realise why a cot, steriliser, baby monitor and easy to push buggy where such a good idea and are very grateful that it's here and they aren't getting dragged into Mothercare to buy it follwing a totally sleepless night with a newborn
. If it had been left up to my DH our babies would have come home to a house devoid of baby stuff.
Men just don't get it.

Oh dear, am talking to myself again.
Bye

frazzledoldbag34 · 13/11/2008 08:42

Ooh crossed posts Llaregubb! Nice to see I'm actually not a crazy person talking to myself.

llareggub · 13/11/2008 08:45

Well, I'll talk the mad lady!

I think I'll probably use a sling this time around, as I don't want to buy a double buggy.
