Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mummyhill · 30/03/2005 12:44

Hi all just caught up on posts had trouble getting to the computer recently DH burried it under a load of diy stuff which was a little to heavy for me to lift. I bloomed slightly when the weather was nice now it is grey and dull again and i feel dreadfull. I have started throwing up again I honestly thought i had got past that stage. And the headaches are driving me insane, gp has decided that it may be an indication of anemia or diabetes in my case cause i have a constant ragging thirst am peeing much more than usuall even taking into consideration that i am pg i am also like a bear with a sore head i feel really sorry for dh and dd at the moment. On a plus point am now 17 weeks and feeling movement so thats a plus. Have finally tracked my blood test results down as they had lost them, no one thought to put on the form where the results should be sent to so they have just been sitting in a tray in the lab for two weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes these people worry me. Hope eveeryone else is feeling ok. will stop waffling now!!!

moschops · 30/03/2005 18:32

i was sick after my post this morning!! the first time since i've been pregnant..........

anyway midwife says my blood count is a little bit low and this could be one of the reasons i feel so bad......and she said i was feeling hot, she thought maybe i had a stomach bug. told me to phone tomorrow if i'm still feeling bad but an afternoon at work seems to have perked me up a bit.

she is annoyed that i haven't had my date through for my 20 week scan yet.....apparently she is having major problems with the admin side of our main hospital.

dp felt the baby kicking last night, laid in bed with his hand on my belly and we had a good giggle, i suppose its the first 'real' thing for him since the scan. seems to have got him excited......he's now itching to get in the nursery and decorate it!!

thankyou everyone for being there in my down moments i'm feeling a bit brighter today (in mood if not in body!!)

mummyhill · 31/03/2005 08:23

Glad to hear you are feeling better moschops. Lets hope we have some reasonable weather but not to hot please this year as it will make us all feel so much better.

sarahhal · 31/03/2005 16:14

Moschops, glad you are feeling better You said in a previous message you'd been looking at cot mattresses - have you an IKEA near you? I was looking at baby stuff in there yesterday and they do a really reasonable one for £25. We got quite a lot of stuff there for DS.

Had a visit from midwife today - am in between health authorities so see GP midwife for some appointments and hospital area midwife for others. It's very faffy but through my choice of wanting baby in certain hospital. Ended up at pathology at the hospital as she couldn't get any of my blood ( it's all mine!!!!) who finally got some ( bah!!)after lots and lots of poking and pricking. Am bruised to high heaven so a good job I don't have any glamorous social events I need to show my arms off (as if!)

andif · 31/03/2005 18:47

Finally had my booking in today. Bit of a non event really - just form filling, blood tests and reliving previous births! Kingston now has a midlife-led unit separate from main delivery suite which aims for more natural birth - complete with birthing pool, balls etc. Sounds great, I got quite excited about it!

The health centre also runs refresher antenatal courses led by NCT tutor but free, which I think I will do as it's so long since last time! It's a great service - we did them with ds1 and had a group of only 5 couples without having to pay NCT rates.

I am finally beginning to believe that I really am going to have another baby! Aagghh

moschops · 01/04/2005 09:53

i got my appt through today for my detailed scan......it's not until the 29th April!!! i just told my dp and he is a bit upset that he has to wait a whole month to see baby again. he keeps telling me off too because i keep saying 'he's dancing again'.......and he says i'll be disappointed if its a girl.....so i have to stop refering to it as a boy. i can't help it though, it just feels natural to say 'he'

hmmmmmm.......i'm trying to decide which part of the house i should clean today? have promised the doggy we will have a cuddle this afternoon and watch a film together (i'm sure the dog doesn't care about the film!!!!)he seems a bit disgruntled because he can't flop on top of my belly like he used to, and wouldn't stop nudging my hand last night, and looking at me with those big brown eyes of his.

well i'm going to tear myself away from the computer and attempt to do some housework........

Sallie · 01/04/2005 13:21

moschops - your scan is the same day as mine!

zubb · 01/04/2005 13:34

moschops - I always refer to the bump as 'he'. I did with the other 2 and somehow knew that they were both boys. With this one I'm not so sure, but still say 'he' all the time! Have to wait till the 25th April to find out though - can't wait. As usual my Mum and Step-Dad are coming too, so we will have a full room. I go from the first scan where I go on my own to this one with 3 extra people!
We have found out the sex both times and will do again. It helps us get used to it all really, and will help getting ds1 and ds2 used to it.
We have been talking to ds1 about the baby, and he has decided that girl or boy it should be called Gordon as that is his favourite train at the moment!

Sallie · 01/04/2005 16:13

DH is pretty sure this one is a girl although won't be 100% until I had had my 'official' 20 week scan!

Kiwifruit · 01/04/2005 17:08

Hi Ladies. Am back from the States (which was freezing - London is relatively balmy after NYC and Chicago!). A bit disappointed on the shopping front, as looked at maternity clothes, but found it too hard to imagine what I would look like with a bump! Did manage to pick up a few things though. Also, had a terrible cold - was coughing so much I was vomiting (lovely). Was so bad that I went to a pharmacy and begged for cough medicine. They gave me some they said was fine for pregnancy, but when I showed the box to my GP when I came back, he didn't look entirely convinced. Am now suffering from bad mummy guilts, even though I did try to keep my intake to the absolute minimum

Had my booking appointment with the midwife on Tuesday, and I have to say I was a little underwhelmed. Just involved filling in some bits of paper and having a blood test. MW was very impersonal. Didn't have a scan, as had a private nuchal scan 10 days previously (NHS appointment was outside the 13 week threshold). DH came along, but it was really a waste of his time. Actually, all that came from that is that we had a big argument on the way home because I was 'moaning' about the NHS - actually, all I said was that I was a bit underwhelmed by my treatment so far. That said, I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting...

Also, told work this week - boss was great, then confessed that she is 5 wks pg, which I think will be very handy, as she will hopefully be more supportive as she's in the same boat!

Anyway, enough moaning - hope you're all well!

mummyhill · 01/04/2005 17:15

Dh is sure we are having a boy. I am not going to ask but i will be looking at the screen quite closely on the 15th!!!! I tend to refer to the baby as jnr. I am battling with housework. I am sure Dh thinks i am wonderwoman. We can all race round after a toddler keep a house spotless and work as well can't we??? I am concentrating on one room a week and just flittlng round everything i have already sorted out every morning in a vain hope it might stay tidy and clean. So far i have done the hall and stairs and bleached the bathroom from top to bottom, can't get at the landing properly as is covered in even more DIY stuff. next room i think will be the kitchen followed by the living room and my room. If i am really lucky someone else like a fairy will do the washing and the ironing (well if dh thinks they exist there must be at least one out there with a month to spare). Have to have it all done by september or i will go insane. It would help if men actually did something to help other than complain if there is a mess, or even if he would finish one of the hundred diy projects he seems to have on the go at the moment. Other than that i am feeling none too baad at the moment just need a little more sleep.

zubb · 01/04/2005 18:24

mummyhill you've done loads! I've been looking at the mess here all day!
Dh has taken the boys away for a few days and I know I should be catching up with work, cleaning the house, going to the gym etc, but instead I had a long lie-in, a long bath and have lounged round all day occassionally checking my e-mails and answering the phone so that it looks like I'm working
Actually I feel a bit lost without them all here - it's great when you go away and they stay at home but when it's the other way round it's a bit weird. Sure I'll cope though

pooka · 01/04/2005 20:16

Hi all. Been catching up on posts - have been computerless for a few days as moved house on Tuesday! Getting there in terms of emptying numerous cardboard boxes, and so excited about our house. Really love it - although since I lived here from birth until I was 23, it should have good vibes
Had horrbile 48 hour flu over the weekend. Just had to take myself off to bed, and was so relieved that was better for the major work on Tuesday and Wednesday. Felt super guilty for hitting the paracetamol, but no option really as high temp. and awful headache.
It's wierd about movement, as I had pretty definite flutterings from 14 weeksish, but less discernible now. Not too concerned, YET!!

mummyhill · 02/04/2005 10:33

Morning all. The sun si shinning here in Birmingham the only downside is that I have to go to work today instead of going to the park with the rest of the family. Not i till 12 though and nanny has just wisked dd off out for the Day Dh is out so I am having a very lazy morning. It may sound as if i have done a lot when you look at it all written down neatly but when you look at the house it is just a nightmare I feel as though i am living in a pig sty (ohh hold on that might be unkind to the pigs!!)

Pooka - Glad to hear the move went well, it is nice to be able to move back into a house where you have good memories, I have allways sadi that if i won the lottery i would buy my nans place to live in as it has soooooo many good memories.

Oh well I am off to have a nice long shower or maybe even indulge in a bath before getting ready for work.

franch · 02/04/2005 14:37

Hi all, just a quick update. Got a letter with my blood test results yesterday: Downs/spina bifida risk LOW this time: less than 1 in 50,000. What a relief. Had my 2nd midwife appointment yesterday too - first one with the community team - quite pleasant and relaxed, VERY positive about homebirth, and gave me some tips for dealing with my awful lower-back pain. All stuff I should have known from last time but had forgotten already Most importantly, heard the little one's heartbeat - lovely lovely lovely

Hope everyone's enjoying the sunshine, if you have it where you are

franch · 02/04/2005 14:39

Oh - and the m/w said she could see no reason why they couldn't do my homebirth for me as I really am only just outside their catchment area. She said to go and have a chat with the Head of Midwifery - I've already been in email contact with her anyway but definitely think a chat is in order. I am finding the whole service wonderfully personal after last time.

franch · 02/04/2005 14:45

Also - I've put my 20w scan date on the stats thread - do add yours too so we can keep up to date - maybe those of us who find out the sex of our babies can add that too

VirtualFairy · 02/04/2005 15:52

I am confused as after my booking appointment i was told that my antenatal care would look like this

4 weeks - doctor (confirmation of pregnancy)
14 weeks - booking appointment at hospital
22 weeks - detailed scan at hospital
26 weeks - community midwife
32 weeks - community midwife
38 weeks - community midwife

i am sure when i had my daughter all those years ago i was seen every 4 weeks till 28 weeks and then every 2 weeks till 36 weeks then every 1 week till birth. has the nhs changed ? or is it just the way they do it in london? i just think 5 appointments over 9 months is not that much, how does it compare to all of yours?

franch · 02/04/2005 15:59

At my hosp there are fewer visits for 2nd and subsequent births. Here's my schedule:

up to 12w: mw (booking appt); scan
(15-19w: blood test)
16w: mw
20w: 2nd scan
22w: mw
28w: mw
34w: mw
36w: mw
38w: mw

This is in London too. Your appts nearer your EDD do look a bit infrequent, but you can see your comm m/w whenever you like, can't you? So just make extra appointments if you would like some extra checks??

VirtualFairy · 02/04/2005 16:12

it looks like i don't get to see any midwives till 26 weeks so i think i am going to ask the hospital when i go for my 20 week scan how i can get in touch with the community midwives. could do with a phone number or something, i am quite reluctant to go to the gp for pregnancy related stuff.

franch · 02/04/2005 16:15

That's weird, they should have given you a phone no. already I'd've thought.

pooka · 02/04/2005 16:26

I dont have my second scan until 23/24 weeks - will put the date on the stats thread.

LadyLazarus · 02/04/2005 17:34

Just wanted to say that the frequency of your visits seems to depend on your GP / midwife. I am not seeing the midwife much, but my GP does her own ante-natal clinics from her surgery, and I have been going every 4 weeks since I told her I was pregnant. If you're worried, maybe talk to your midwife about it, as it seems unfair that if you live in one street you get x amount of visits, and if you live in another street you get much less!

LadyLazarus · 02/04/2005 17:38

Kiwifruit - sorry to hear your cold spoiled your holiday! How annoying! I had my booking clinic at Woodfield Road as well, and while I did find it a bit rushed, I'm not sure I felt as "underwhelmed" as you did... know what you mean about hubby being a bit redundant, but I think because we had our first scan there we were more in awe of that than anything else!! (although I have to say the scan was VERY rushed indeed!). Didn't really find out much that I didn't know already, to be honest. I think next time I will go armed with more questions and stuff, as I felt like because I didn't have much to ask then the time I got with the m/w was quite short!

Ha! It'll be weird if we are in St Mary's at the same time!!

Kiwifruit · 02/04/2005 17:44

My schedule looks like this (hosp is St Marys London)
11 -13 MW
16 MW (will) actually be 18w
20 Scan
24 GP shared care
27 MW
31 GP shared care
34 MW
36 GP shared care
38 GP shared care
40/41 MW
