Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

The second opinion scan was OK. The nuchal neck measurement is 2.7mm & is still borderline just below the 3mm "problem zone". The doc checked everything else & fortunately everything thing was fine. There is a nose bone, the hands & feet are formed normally, the heart was properly functioning. All the measurements were good - crl 8.5mm. My little dd3 stood next to the bed holding my hand. I felt relieved when it was all over- still had a blood test to make a risk ratio for problems - will get this result next friday!!! - with my age & nuchal measurement I expect it to be higher risk than normal - but with the scan seeming ok - I don't think I'll risk an amnio. Having such a long scan was really amazing as it is hard to believe that there is this all this activity inside. The doc remembered all about my difficult pregnancy with dd3 & was happy to see her - plus how good she was to stand next to me during the scan. Next friday I will also have the triple test to make yet another risk assessment. The results for this test take about 10 days. Hope everyone is doing fine. Best wishes xxx

pooka · 25/03/2005 08:08

Great news Milward - sounds quite reassuring, but how what a lot of tests to have to have. Hope all is well, but nice to start the easter weekend off on a positive note.
Which dvd did you use, Franch, as I'm thinking of investing!

LadyLazarus · 25/03/2005 09:47

Franch - I think I have the same DVD, is it the Lynne Robinson one? I did laugh out loud when she said you should do it 5 times a week haha!

My natal hypnotherapy CDs came this week, I have listened to the pg relaxation one, and it's really nice. Can highly recommend it!

Unusually for a nurse, I'm off until Tuesday now, so am looking forward to having a nice rest (and doing some yoga + pilates, naturally )

andif · 25/03/2005 10:12

Just been catching up on a week of posts!

Had a fantastically relaxing holiday - managed to read 4 books, and get a tan so totally re energised! Full of good intentions to swim lots and try to find yoga class now I have more energy, but sure MN will take over once I've been on my own with the kids for a few days!!

Interesting reading pain relief comments already! I had pethadine with ds1 which I know is unfashionable but thought it fantastic - felt drunk and kept saying ridiculous things but didn't care! With ds2 was determined to use tens but disastrous - obsessed with putting it on as soon as first contraction, which meant I was awake pushing button all night when could have been getting some rest! Ended up with epidural which seemed to centre all pain on one thigh ( a common complaint I believe) and longer labour than ds1!! I guess it's horses for courses, but just don't think that epidural will mean pain free!!

franch · 25/03/2005 12:08

at your holiday, andif!

LadyL, yes it's the Lynne Robinson DVD. pooka, here's a link.

milward, good to hear your update. BEST OF LUCK with the triple test etc.

Boompi · 25/03/2005 14:08

Good luck Milward, it does all sound like you are feeling slightly reassured.
Tried to go to preggie yoga yesterday but no parking . After circling the block 4 times I was late and just drove home. Unfortunately no easy public transport to centre. May need ti invest in a DVD. I prefer yoga to pilates but may give your a go Franch. anyone know any good pregnancy yoga DVDs though?

Working from home today unfortunately. Its such nice weather out. Trying to catch up on paper work that slipped behing whilst I was feeling ill.

Happy Easter and have a good long weekend!

LadyLazarus · 26/03/2005 11:16

Boompi - I am using the "Yoga for pg and childbirth" dvd by Wendy Teasdill. Her voice is a bit mumsy, but I like the exercises, and it's very relaxing (I think I actually fell asleep last night whilst doing the relaxation bit at the end!). It's not very strenuous, and just feels like having a really good stretch. I have done lots of yoga before becoming pg, and this is suitable for beginners as well as those with a bit more experience.

LadyLazarus · 26/03/2005 11:18

andif - where did you go on holiday? sounds lovely and relaxing!

Rhumba · 28/03/2005 12:34

Hello, haven't posted for a while as still have a grim time with all this sickness although I am starting to feel a bit better. Had my scan last Monday and ended up with a risk of 1 in 2300 after the nucal and nasal bone measurement which was a relief. At least all the sickness was worth something. Can't remember the Crl but it was below what they would have expected which although I was told was Ok was a bit of a worry. i guess me losing over a stone in weight can't of helped.

Hope everyone enjoyed the easter break. DS was still on a chocolate high, singing away in his cot at about 8.30 last night!

franch · 28/03/2005 13:05

Rhumba, good to see you back. Sorry to hear about the sickness - I do sympathise. Mine's eased off now although I'm still vomiting about once a week (had a bad day yesterday). Good news about the scan though.

The consultant m/w from the hosp that will hopefully be doing my homebirth for me is coming to see me at home tomorrow (which I think is amazing) to talk over my previous traumatic birth (at a different hosp) in order to help me lay it to rest as it were and to make plans for this time round. Will let you know how I get on ....

LadyLazarus · 28/03/2005 13:53

Franch - I admire you for going for the home birth option. I'd love to do it, but our 1-bedroom flat (now it looks like we're not moving out!) is just too small I think. Otherwise I'd join you!

Sorry to hear you and Rhumba and still having nausea + sickness

franch · 28/03/2005 18:59

You might be surprised LadyL - I heard a m/w talking about doing a homebirth for a woman who lived in a caravan recently! It's a question of what you're comfy with tho of course. Does your hosp have a m/w-led birthing centre? Or is there one you could get to? That's usually the next best thing.

andif · 29/03/2005 09:50

Ladylazarus, we went to Lanzarote, but to be honest, anywhere with a bit of sun and beach for the kids would have been just as good! Made us realise how much life is going to change - life with 8 and 5 yr olds easy on hols - just need occasional referee, but can lie and watch!! Am I in for a shock!!?
Also last flight probably without baby! Planning big trip to Australia summer 06 and I have a real fear of flying - aaggh! Lanzarote and back reduced me to a gibbering wreck - any recommendations!

Reading recent posts, realised hadn't asked about anyone else in a totally selfish post-holiday haze. Glad Milward getting some more positive vibes. Is everyone over sickness? I still retch when cleaning my teeth, but that's about it!!

Sallie · 29/03/2005 10:23

I am over the sickness now but still getting awful headaches. Went for a cheeky scan of babe no 3 yesterday and looks like we are having a second girl. DS will be pleased as he is adamant he is having a sister! Will wait for confirmation at my next official scan (29 April - can't wait!!).

sarahhal · 29/03/2005 14:10

What causes these headaches? In the last couple of weeks I've had them badly almost daily - had the same at same time with last pregnancy. I don't like taking anything but am reaching for paracetemol far too often at the moment. Any suggestions anyone? Hope you are all relaxed after your hols - we had a long weekend in Northumberland which was very relaxing despite the weather. My latest whim is that we won't move house but will have an extension to make kitchen less of a pokey hole and add a bedroom...will probably have changed my mind by teatime!

franch · 29/03/2005 14:17

Sallie I am dying to know what we're having!!

The consultant m/w's just been - what a nice woman - I talked through DD's birth from beginning to end, with a few tears (tho not as many as I'd expected), and she mostly just listened and sympathised, then made some suggestions about this time round. I'm going to try to get to know as many of the community m/w team as poss so that hopefully I'll have met the m/w who turns up on the day, and she and the Head of Midwifery are going to keep in touch - in fact she's going to call me in 2 weeks to see how I'm getting on. All very positive and I must say I really am feeling much less 'haunted' by last time already: actually having the confidence to NAME it as 'birth trauma', to have so many people taking it seriously and to face it constructively is really helping.

I've also been making more detailed enquiries about HypnoBirthing, and will probably book a course for myself and DH soon. We might get someone to do private sessions for us at home, as we worked out it would actually work out cheaper than getting a babysitter so that we can go to classes!

franch · 29/03/2005 14:19

sarahhal, this is quite useful re. headaches. I'm finding that drinking large amounts of water seems to help.

Sallie · 29/03/2005 14:48

Pretty sure its a girl but will wait for confirmation at my 20 week scan which is around 4 weeks away now - nervous but can't wait.
Sarahhal - sorry that you are suffering the headaches too. My work definitely makes it worse - having to go through 2800 emails as part of a legal disclosure exercise today and its sooo painful. Am also reaching for the paracetomol too many times. The exhaustion is still with me too although I am sure part of that has to do with doing a pretty full-on job in the City as a lawyer and having two demanding (but gorgeous) little ones. DS has certainly been suffering from me working long hours and was very clingy over the weekend. . Still - only about 9 weeks left!
Franch - so glad you are being well looked after.

moschops · 29/03/2005 15:47

hi all......

i'm at the midwife tomorrow morning for what seems like the first time in ages........well i suppose it is....4 weeks since my scan....

i'm feeling a bit down at the mo too. only been working one day a week because it is stressing me out (problems with landlord......we are self -employed and he is imposing working hours!!!). i'm really starting to worry about money and i have no friends in the town where i live (well i do but they all work) so i am stuck at home on my own and feeling very lonely.

my friend is giving me her cot and when i looked up mattresses on the net i couldn't believe how expensive they are!!! i'm supposed to be happy and looking forward to having this baby and all i can think at the moment is 'what the hell was i thinking!!! i can't have a child'

sorry for being miserable, but i have no-one else to share this with and dp has enough to worry about without this

sarahhal · 29/03/2005 16:02

Thanks for the link Franch - sounds like they don't know really know why we get them!

Moschops, hope you don't feel too fed up for too long. Things always seem to sort themselves out in the end don't they - can you really not have a good cry on your partener's shoulder? Do you think he may be having the same worries as you and not want to burden you with them? Hope you feel better soon.

Sallie · 29/03/2005 16:21

Moschops - sorry to read that you are so down. Its tough trying to balance finances as well as work and everything else when a new baby is on its way. But try to take some time out from the worry - treat yourself to something nice even if its just a evening with a pizza and a dvd. You deserve a break!

moschops · 29/03/2005 17:39

my dp is wonderful and i can cry on him all day long..........i just don't like it to be all he gets from me...feels like it is too much to load on him all the time.

we had a good chat when he got in from work and i do feel better now. i know we'll cope, we've not let anything beat us in the last 12 years. i think its just that for the first time there will be a whole new human being totally dependant on us.

i have to keep an eye on myself and not let myself dwell on stuff too much. i finished painting the office walls today and feel really good that i acheived something!!

thankyou for listening to me!!! i do appreciate it.

PS dp brought home two more easter eggs so a chocolate binge is in order tonight!

andif · 29/03/2005 18:41

Aha moschops - chocolate solves everything!! Seriously though, try to keep smiling. At least you've got approx 6 months before anyone else is dependent on you - a lot can change in that time! Think positive!

Does anyone know where to buy baby stuff in New York? Dh is off there on business soon , and I plan to punish him for leaving me for a week by loading him with a list of stuff (pushchair, etc etc) to bring back with him! Can't find much info re stores online - just their limited online business. Any ideas? i've got to make it simple for him, or he won't bother!!

diane77 · 29/03/2005 21:56

hi all
hope everyone is doing well.
im finally starting to feel so much better but now dd has an ear infection and is completely out of her routine!!
Things are begining to feel real i can now feel the baby moving which is lovely and very reassuring

moschops · 30/03/2005 09:31

thank god i'm at the midwife this morning.........i've woken up with the most excruciating headache, i feel really dizzy and keep having hot flushes. i was supposed to be at work today but dp has arranged for MIL to pick me up for my appt, and see if the midwife thinks i should be working or not.

grrrrrrr where is this 'bloom' i'm suposed to be having?
