Another rant on its way. Our miserable dog found the rest of our Sunday roast from the bin and had a party yesterday on the living room carpet. Not only does my house smell like roast lamb, but the dog also suffered from tummy upsets all last night. And DS woke up at 5am as usual. And, having again stood 30min commute to London, I've had these really quite painful cramps on my side. Like muscle cramps but more likely to be DS2 kicking to those tender spots under my ribs. And it's only Tuesday...

dinkystinky · 28/10/2008 09:56

America - demand a seat. You are around the third trimester now - make your way to a priority seat and remind the person in there that you are less able to stand than they are on account of being humungous and pregnant. Am sure your pesky dog is rueing having found that carcass!

Markstretch - am sure DD and DSD will LOVE the horseriding: all little girls are obsessed with horses for some reason - and they probably wont even notice you've gone. Enjoy your pamper night tonight.

Laidback - poor you, that sounds awful! Make sure you rest lots, drink lots of fluids and fumigate that car.

Morning all

Hope you're feeling a bit better now Laidback. I had a stomach bug yesterday - it really floored me as I had DS with me all day - being very stroppy cos I wouldn't run round the garden with him. Nothing worse than puking whilst trying to stop a toddler posting toys down the toilet at the same time......yuk

Praise be this morning though, as DS slept in till nearly 7am (had to go and wake him then as I was worried!). He's been waking around 5am for ages and refuses to come into our bed for a snooze so it's been early breakfasts for a while.

Questionkid · 28/10/2008 10:09

Morning all,

I'm 26 weeks today, which I believe makes me 6 months. And my bump's suddenly got massive, people have gone from calling it pathetic (am still fuming about the evil lady at work who said that) to looking horrified when I say I'm not due til Feb. I'm fully expecting to start getting the 'oooh, must be at least a 10lb-er comments soon'. More evil people.

MS - if you want to keep your bikini line neat and tidy then you should go around every 4 weeks or so. At the moment, I'm averaging every 3 months! I think I'm a freak of nature as I really don't find it very painful.

america - have you got yourself a 'baby on board' badge from a tube station? Mine worked a treat on a busy commuter train this morning, I didn't even have to make eye contact with anyone and I was offered a seat. Otherwise the only answer is asking people to let you sit. I say it again, more evil people.

mrsy · 28/10/2008 10:10

laidback - that's so nasty. make sure you rest lots, and stick to eating quite dry stuff...

america - you need to practice getting yourself a seat - "excuse me, are you very pregnant? 'cos I am" (sticking bump out at same time...)

eejaykay · 28/10/2008 11:02

Thanks swampster! Only sordid detail I have added is my age. Blimey, I feel a bit ancient to be having a first child. Most of my mates are a couple of years older than me and have only just started having babies themselves so I've not really noticed it before.

Will try and think of other interesting things about me when I'm not avoiding my work and have a bit longer!

Hello everyone else too!

TinkerBellesMum · 28/10/2008 11:55

Nope, no more 2am for me, she's staying at my parents still. Hoping to have her home for the day tomorrow as it's our day out (Mum's Bible Study at church - with a creche, the main reason I go hehe - then I have an appointment at the hospital which also has a creche, so it's mainly for her social life that I need her home you see) and I don't want to miss out on it.

Coco, every time I try something happens! I'm making calendars for adults again this year (nice and cheap) so that's pretty easy. Biggest problem I have is that TBD let the kids play with my camera and they left it in the pub car park, was gone five minutes later when we went to look for it. It was half way through the year and had all the years pics on it

Happy to do calendars for anyone else. Just send me a message on FaceBook and I'll tell you what I need.

Thanks dinkystinky, I figure with everything I've been through I should put it to use. I've got some good outcomes from some terrible situations and it's been because of the fantastic support I've had, maybe surprisingly, from NHS around here. I know women who haven't had such a hard time and not had such good outcomes (breastfeeding is a good example).

Sorry to hear you've not been well Laidback, I usually find a good puking session helps me feel a lot better!

I had a friend email me this morning asking why I haven't said I'm pregnant. I hadn't seen him for a few years until recently when I was wearing a "Mind the Bump" slogan T-shirt (where have all the good slogan shirts gone? I have loads from last time but can't find any now) and I've been huge since 12 weeks. I haven't said "have you seen how big I am?" but I haven't exactly hidden it!

chilledmama · 28/10/2008 12:41

I had a t-shirt made last time...it said building in progress then had a picture of my 12 weeks scan below
Haven't don eit this time...too cold and can't be arsed

herbgarden · 28/10/2008 12:53

MS - maybe your DD and DSD could now sleep in the shed if there's going to be power in there.........

Naughty mummy here dosed ds up on Calprofen before sending him to nursery. They can then top up with Calpol later if they need to. He was quite happy going in there so if I get any calls to say he's "going down hill"....I ain't going to be happy. Mean Mean Mean.

I feel v.second hand today. 2am screaming and then 5am screaming. Sounds like all our dc's are in cahoots.

We've had a few agreements re xmas - some people we're just buying for kids and we're having a limit on spending too. SOOOO muchmore sensible (my family) - DH's family are less sensible and by Boxing Day I'm sorting very odd presents into "Keep"/"Chuck"/"Charity" - I had a chat with MIL last year and asked her if she'd mind having a word with some people (who I've never even met and DH and I have been together for over 11years) whether they'd like to save their money and not buy us a xmas present - I said they should donate to charity if they felt v.strongly about it. I got a slightly irritated response and still those presents keep coming !......maybe I should be more sentimental but surely they'd love to save their money??! Maybe I'm being too cold about it !

Back to work - boring old seminar to go to again at lunchtime and I really needed to go into town.

chilledmama · 28/10/2008 12:55

I finally got my KinderCoat at the weekend
I bought it over the summer and had it delivered to family who then brought it over while on holiday...
I told them to break open the packaging so that it was easier to pack so they then took it upon themselves to try and put it all together and after a full evening of FAILING decided that I was barking and that it would never work and that I was wasting my time. They couldn't work how you would balance the baby on your back [stupid family emoticon]. When my MIL told them I would wear a baby bjorn they all insisted that was impossible because they don't go on your back......
[really stupid emoticons]
The concept of babywearing just seems to have passed them by!!!!!!!
Regardless...I'm really pleased to have my KinderCoat, even if I do have to balance DS on my back

TinkerBellesMum · 28/10/2008 13:07

Apparently Tink was up at 5 something am this morning and telling Nanny "tea belly time" (I never thought a bigger tea belly than my mum could be found, until she started looking after my daughter!) Just after 6am they all had to sit around the table and have breakfast (my aunt is staying and Tink had all three of them up for breakfast )

I'm rolling here because I wasn't there!

chilledmama, I think you've just saved me some money! I've been wanting to buy a maternity coat but now I think I'm going to skip it and just get a babywearing coat which will do me for before and after!

I'm also getting fed up with the lack of maternity jumpers, I'm allergic to wool and everything seems to include it. I can't even risk the low % wool ones because Tink is too and so I don't want to expose her.

Questionkid · 28/10/2008 13:33

eejaykay - don't worry, I'm 33 and this is my first so you're not alone! Quite a few of my friends are early 30's and haven't even thought about having kids yet so I think there's a lot to be said for first time mums getting older and older.

Lotster · 28/10/2008 14:46

Helloooo, is it too late to join?

I am due an elective c/s last week of feb (otherwise due March 7th so hope this is the thread for me!)

I've got one little boy aged 2 and have found out this morning I'm expecting a girl!

TinkerBellesMum · 28/10/2008 14:54

Of course you are welcome to join us! I just had to reread your post (shows how much things are playing on my mind at the moment) I read that you'd had a CS last week

Copy the list that EJK last posted and add yourself in there.

mslucy · 28/10/2008 14:55

eejaykay

you're a mere whipper snapper.
34 is a great age to have your first baby - I was 34 when I had ds.
Now 38 - so 34 seems positively teenage.

Was very chuffed yesterday as woman in street doing survey for council asked me if I was under 30.

I felt about 999 after waking up at 5am so it made my day.

How sad am I!

Calico1 · 28/10/2008 15:18

Oh be quiet you thirtysomethings....mine and DH's age adds up to 85! Now that's really scary. Felt like an elderly mum last time around at 38, but actually feel I'm coping better being pregnant at 40 (or just too tired to think about it any more).

mrsy · 28/10/2008 15:19

I've ordered myself a few t-shirts from cafepress.com

  • a white one with a speech bubble that says "if that's my family I can hear, I'm not coming out"
  • a black one with an egg timer and "loading..."
  • a black one with a superman-style planel that says "I grow people...what's your super power?"

Also ordered a few 'onsies'! that say

  • "I only cry when ugly people hold me"
  • "Level 1 human" - to satisfy John's gamer-geekness!

Really want to get the ones that say "Mummy (Daddy) only wanted a backrub (blowjob)", but not sure I have the bottle!

TinkerBellesMum · 28/10/2008 15:24

mrsy, you're not a WoW widow are you?

mrsy · 28/10/2008 15:29

no - anything xbox, though. at the moment: Fable 2 and GTA, but also Call of Duty and all those WW2 ones, and Halo 2 and stuff...

I play Viva Pinatta, and a bit of Fable and Oblivian, but he's never cought the WoW bug!

TinkerBellesMum · 28/10/2008 15:41

Haha, just be glad not WoW too! They've just released a major patch in anticipation of the expansion pack that's coming out in a few weeks and I've even started playing my lvl70 who I retired because I got to bit of a difficult place with her having nothing to do. They've made it quite interesting.

In this house he's the WoW widow! Not so much now as he got his own laptop.

dinkystinky · 28/10/2008 15:57

Welcome Lotster - as TBM said, just copy the last version of the due date list and paste it in with your details.

EJK - you're not ancient. Plenty of my friends only started popping sprogs around 33ish too - am just a little bit younger than most of my friends when it comes to deciding to start a family......

OP posts:
pluto · 28/10/2008 16:32

markstretch - as I am local to the russian waxer you mentioned a couple of pages I may have to get her details before due date

I have succumbed and bought first babygrow and little pale yellow velour trousers with feet. Soooo cute. Shaowed them to DH who could only replty with "you haven't started buying stuff already?!" baa humbug.

Did I say our garden is finished? It's FAB and appropriately decorated with pumpkins now. DH is busy doing our bedroom. I would like some kind of floor covering as the stripped wood floors, whilst pretty, are echoey, cold and drafty and offer no soundproofing from living room and tv which are directly underneath. Can't afford or justify Kardean as most of the room is taken up with the bed, don't like cheap laminate so I think it's going to be a cheap carpet. Mum turned her nose up at this yesterday as it's not v. hygienic. Any better suggestions are welcome.

dinkystinky · 28/10/2008 17:02

Pluto - am a huge fan of carpets in bedrooms (but not elsewhere) as makes the room feel more cosy (and is v off putting to put feet on cold wooden floors first thing in the morning). As long as you hoover regularly and air the room, and dont wear outdoor shoes in your bedroom, dont really think there is much of a hygiene issue going on there.

OP posts:
BloodRedTulips · 28/10/2008 17:05

i'm sooooo cold [sob]

my cousin showed me how to bleed the boiler on sunday at my aunts and i got up all excited yesterday convinced i'd have heating soon..... only to find instead of a screwdriver it needed a hex key in a size i didn't have and it being a bank holiday in rural ireland there weren't any shops open. so today i run into town and get what i need and come home all excited thinking i'll be warm soon and air it... loads of air bubbles came out and then nothing and when i turn it on it's still dead.

stoopid stoopid stoopid piece of junk. stoopid idiot man not coming to fix it. stoopid me for letting it get airlocked. stoopid coal for being so expensive. stoopid fireplace for being so crap and not exuding any heat at all. stoopid dp who i'm still not talking to not being able to fix it like a real man. stoopid stooopid stooopid arsesing cold damp miserable country i live in.

I'll second dinky on that one.
carpets in bedrooms, but wooden floorboards/laminates in rest of house.

having said that, there's laminate in ds's room as I wanted a wipe clean surface

feel bad that I haven't bought a single baby thing yet - will wait until sales and period after Xmas when you can get lots of bargains on ebay.
