mumoverseas · 05/11/2008 13:32

afternoon all, TBM, glad to see you are still 'out', think we all start to worry when you are not on here for a few days!
dinky - glad you are sorting out your car insurance stuff.
We got our car back last night which is our one bit of good news. I'm officially putting myself forward for the shittiest day ever award!
Basically (vvvv long story short) I was looking on ebay this morning (v bored!) and happened to find a limited edition painting which I own for sale! My DH thought I was over reacting and was just one 'like' ours. However, this painting is a limited edition signed and numbered one (one of a collection) and the one for sale was our number. Checked the photos and paperwork and it is definitely either a) our one which has been stolen or b) a forged one. Either way, I'm worried. Bearing in mind 3,000 miles from my house am worried in case have been burgled and can't get hold of neighbours who have key to check! aaaghhh! Have phoned the art gallery where I bought it and initially they were 'it must be a mistake blah blah' but when I got them to look on ebay they were 'ah, yes, that is the one you bought (or forged one), you need to phone the police'! Easier said than done from here as 0845 numbers we can't phone from here! Have therefore emailed ebay/art gallery/police in area where painting being sold and will have to watch this space wondering if my entire house has been emptied or whether this is just a bizarre coincidence that they've chosen for forge my number out of hundreds! so, do I win a prize for shittiest day?

thehouseofmirth · 05/11/2008 13:49

No, maybe most bizarre but not shittiest. I am just about to dole out tea and sympathy to my godson and his mum who is my best friend and who, at 37 has just been diagnosed with an agressive form of breast cancer. Puts everyone else's day into perspective, I think?

mumoverseas · 05/11/2008 14:01

oh HOM, I'm so so sorry to read your post. You are right, its only a painting (although I love it and bought it coz it was named after my DD so very sentimental) I hope that your friend gets all the support she needs (she has you for a start which is good) and that she gets the best medical treatment. On a positive, I organised a christmas coffee morning yesterday and raised around £100 for Breast cancer and Women for Women (uk charity with deals with things like cancer in women) hugs to you and your friend and I'll shut up about my shit day.

munteria · 05/11/2008 14:07

hi thanks

how do i put in my details? i cant edit your text.

p.s i'm 37.

dinkystinky · 05/11/2008 14:23

THOM - am so sorry to hear about your friend. Breast cancer is a terrifying illness - I really hope she gets some prompt treatment and it stops it in its tracks. You're right - you hear something like that and it makes you want to stop and hug your loved ones close.

MOS - that sucks re the painting! Definitely get your neighbours to check your house and keep on to EBAY about this.

Pinktulips - hope your plumbing gets sorted today.

Munteria - find the last version of the list on the thread, copy and paste it into a new message then edit the list. Or, let us all know your due date and one of us will update it (I'll be updating my age tomorrow anyway...)

Questionkid · 05/11/2008 15:12

Hi all,

I've been lurking again - must post more!

I think it must be a week for crappiness. I had a crappy midwife appointment yesterday. I thought everything had been going too well. Yesterday my BP was up (the bottom reading was 90, which apparently puts me on the cusp of high BP) which now means I'm on close monitoring. So I've got to go in to get it checked again on Saturday in the clinic and if it's still high then apparently they'll keep me in until they've got it under control with treatment. I also had sugar in my wee, but apparently this was because I'd had a sugary cereal for breakfast and had done the sample when I arrived at the surgery instead of in the morning before eating when I should've done (not one single midwife has told me that yet.) Incidentally, after peeing all over my hand in the loo trying to aim for the stupid sample bottle I then got stuck in the loo and had to phone DH who was in the waiting room to get me out. There was a crowd of doctor's receptionists outside the loo when I got out as well as lots of nosy patients - the humiliation!!

I've also been told I should be easing back on work, which isn't easy when we're in our busiest time and my boss is so stressed she looks like she's permanently going to cry. This afternoon will be fun, I've got a meeting with her at 4 where I need to tell her that I'm thinking I want to start my mat leave earlier than mid-January as planned and go for 23 December. Plus, I need to be able to do much more from home in the meantime so I don't have the stress of the commute into London. Eeek, I hate meetings like that.

On the subject of sex, I'm going home to tell my DH he's blimmin lucky based on what some of you have been saying about regularity - we've been averaging once or twice a week since the beginning. And my LO also goes very quiet during the deed and stays that way for a bit afterwards. I always think he must be feeling the endorphins and having a nice calm sleep.

Sorry, turned into a monster post, maybe I should go back to lurking...

Calico1 · 05/11/2008 16:29

Gosh the chat has got saucy since I last logged on! Going through a major sex drought here. I think DH finds pregnancy a bit scary - not sure if it is my shape or attitude but he's been keeping a distance.....he was quite horrified at how huge I got in the last pregnancy and it obviously wasn't a turn on for him.

THOM - so sorry to hear about your friend - it's such an awful, awful disease but especially at that age.

MOS - I had a similar thing happen on ebay except that it was a car not a painting...turns out that the fake ad was placed to attract people to other car offers that they had in their on-line shop. It's a real con!

dinkystinky · 05/11/2008 17:07

Questionkid - sorry to hear about your crappy week hon. Try to relax and cutting down hours and starting mat leave earlier can only be a good thing for you (and your work WILL survive without you).

TinkerBellesMum · 05/11/2008 17:34

Nothing perverted about strawberries! Or grapes... The was you giving them away

Dinky, isn't it crazy that in a month we could start having conversations about "real" babies? I predicted on the Facebook group that of our list statistically speaking we will have 11 premature births. Although I'm sure we won't know about them all as they don't all check in.

Is anyone else feeling breathless? I ended up on a heart monitor the other night as I couldn't talk properly I was so breathless! My condition puts me at a higher risk of a PE so they had to check. I can't even sit up to eat now, oddly I can only catch my breath lying down.

mumoverseas I hate to make people worry, but it is nice to know that people do notice. About your day, if you are trying to ring an 08 number have a look at the website sayNOto0870 which lists lots of premium rate numbers and their landline alternative. I hope you've not been burgled and it's just some weird coincidence, but I think either way eBay and the police need to be involved! Have you looked what else they've sold in case they've passed on several of them?

QK if you're feeling up to it during pregnancy it can be really good and the baby does enjoy it! The movement and gentle tightenings are supposed to be really soothing for them.

MarkStretch · 05/11/2008 17:46

Sorry to everyone who has had a crappy day.

THOM- I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, what an awful thing to happen.

Nice to see you still pregnant TBM!

thehouseofmirth · 05/11/2008 18:27

MOS I hope you don't think I was having a dig at you, I was just meaning that we all (me especially) have a tendency to let ultimately trivial stuff get in the way of what really matters.
Having said that I hope you get your picture conundrum sorted. Presumably if you had been burgled soeone would have been in touch wit you by now so hopefully it's just a fake.

TBM I'm feeling very breathless when I climb up stairs but apart from that not too bad. Blimey you've got enough to worry about without the thought of embolisms too.

rosieposey · 05/11/2008 18:31

Hi all, sorry to read about everyone having a tough time - not much indoor sportage going on here really, i just feel like the bump is alway in the way and it feels cumbersome and rubbish. Honeymoon the week after next though so id better getting eating aspargus or something to get me feeling a bit more amorous.

Wedding one week this Saturday and im stressed to the hilt - and hoping and praying it all comes together in time. Spent most of yesterday running around and chasing up things not to mention booking hotels for family and friends although im not so sure that they are not capable of googling bloody hotels in Swindon themselves!
Anyway went for consultants appt at joint clinic this afternoon and saw obstetrician and diabetic consultant who gave me the lovely news that essentially because of my placenta that my body was becoming more and more resistant to insulin and that i would be injecing, in his words 'massive amounts' by the end of my pregnancy nice! Got my C Section booked with obs though so thats something to look forward to at least, my little man will be joining the world at large on Friday 6th February now ( barring any mishaps or super poorly peeps who need cs before me ) so i will update my due date in a mo - 13 weeks now doesnt seem so bad and i am so tired and washed out by this raging diabetes that it cant go quick enough for me! Added to this my blood pressure was sky high ( i reckon it is the wedding preparations doing that ) and obs wanted to put me straight on methyldopa but i said maybe it would be better by next week so ive got to go back for a blood pressure series check next week otherwise thats it im on that nasty stuff which i really dont fancy as i know it can make you feel really crappy.

Right enough doom and gloom from Wiltshire! Am going to spend a pleasant evening eating fajitas, tacos and perusing Cornish cottages to stay in for our honeymoon - just figured that if we booked late would get a better deal and maybe get a lovely luxury cottage for half the price of summer lets. Hmm that reminds me - does anyone know if its safe to use hot tubs in third trimester? I forgot to ask at hospital today - saw a gorgeous cottage with one outside on the veranda and really fancied the look of it but not much use if i cant get in it eh?

Ohhhh sorry for the uber long post! Lots to catch up with

TBM Its hard to believe that a a few people on this thread will be mothers by next month but you are probably right - I still cant believe that we are this far in - has whizzed by

TinkerBellesMum · 05/11/2008 18:38

I know this pregnancy has been short for me, with finding out at 7 weeks then the possibility of a premature baby (if Tink is anything to go by I've effectively lost 12 weeks of pregnancy, so very short!) but it does seem to have whizzed by!

I know THOM, the amount of things that "could" happen is silly! I know a lot of women who are put off pregnancy because of it all. I'm just immune now I think, I just do as I'm told and wait it out. I can't bring myself to think of all the things that could happen.

thehouseofmirth · 05/11/2008 19:07

Rosey this cottage isn't luxury but it is very nice and is in the lovliest location and also great for getting to places too. Also goood is this site. I don't think hot tubs are recommended at any stage in pregnancy but I'm not sure once or twice near then end is particularly risky. Basically, in hot water your body tries to keep itself cool by sending extra blood to your organs which takes the cooling blood flow away from your baby, who cannot regulate their own temperature and so it could cause the baby to overheat.

TBM I often think you're very brave (or mad!) to put yourself through this but then again for every known worry about pregnancy (or life) there are also another 10 things you've never even thought of so I guess you just have to get on with it!

MarkStretch · 05/11/2008 19:30

I have uncontrollable wind.

dinkystinky · 05/11/2008 20:01

As Spotty would say Markstretch, Parp parp...

OP posts:
chilledmama · 05/11/2008 20:10

24 weeks today!!!

MarkStretch · 05/11/2008 20:18

Seriously, I'm doing that thing that old ladies do, you know when they walk along farting and pretending it wasn't them?

thehouseofmirth · 05/11/2008 20:36

MS I've been doing that for weeks. I had it in my last pregnancy (remember my story about my lack of control when the GP was doingmy Group B Strep test?) Luckily this time I nearly always have DS wih me wherever I go so I just blame him!

mrsy · 05/11/2008 20:48

bad mummy thom! really sorry to hear about your friend, lucky that she has you, but don't overburden yourself (don't mean that nastily, but think of yourself, and remember to talk to someone about how you feel about it all)

MS - you do make me giggle!!!!!!

TBM hope Fifi continues to stick...

rosie sending you lots of calm vibes - honestly, relish this time; I missed it so much after we got married, and I'm a bit jealous af anyone getting married!

Just had a lovely meal at Dim T (my treat ) but the paint fumes were driving me mad, and I was at a Conflict Resolution course all day so wanted some socialising - and had a HUGE craving for dim sum...

LittleMissNorty · 05/11/2008 21:41

Evening ladies ...I'm becoming a bit of a lurker as well....whe I do have time I'm just so knackered.

Major sex drought here as well....poor DH is finding it difficult........I'm not, just gone right off it and feeling particularly unattractive

MOS - any news re your house?

THOM - hope your friend is OK - dreadful news.

This pg is going so fast....I bought some nappies in Boots the other day as they were on special offer.....seems very odd buying size 1 nappies again

herbgarden · 05/11/2008 21:55

Gosh I step away from the laptop for a few hours and you lot have been very chatty.

Tink - glad baby is still hanging on in there. Another breathless one here - I can manage to go upstairs and then have to go for a sit down - my heart is beating so fast and it feels like I just can't catch my breath.

Rosie - get your rely's to organise their own accommodation !!! Shame on them. You've got enough on your plate with pg, stuff related to it and a wedding to organise.....Not sure about hot tubs but I think it can raise blood pressure - apart from anything else you might just find it a bit hot and makes you feel a bit dizzy and light headed (I find they do normally without pg on top) - I went to a spa with hot tub at about week 11 and didn't go in but we're obviously at a different stage now so not sure on the score during the third trimester.

MOS hope you sort out your painting issue and THOM...glad you explained the Bob point - I did have a funny vision in my mind !! Sorry to hear about your friend. Very worrying.

Just been out for a lovely dinner with DH - we actually talked for a whole near 2 hours and caught up rather than grunting at each other before a 9pm bedtime- so important to do that sometimes if you get chance - we normally get more time to go out just us but recently neither set of parents has been around for various reasons to give us any babysitting. Apparently DS has been a poppet for my mum all day (he's there for the night and I am looking forward to a nice lie in !) so I think he might be over last weeks virus- thank goodness he was sooo clingy it was driving me bonkers.

I'm off to bed ! Nunight.

MrsArchieTheInventor · 05/11/2008 21:59

Sorry to jump in - just want a quick moan.

28 weeks pregnant, due 25th January 2009.

  • SPD
  • Heartburn
  • Embarrasing breathlessness even for simple things like putting my shoes on or walking upstairs
  • Extremely tired but can't get comfortable in bed, even on my side with a pillow between my legs, so consequently I look like death and am told almost every day that I look tired by supposed well-meaning workmates who then expect me to run around after them
  • Can't find any clothes that look stylish/sexy/both as apparently fat women aren't supposed to get pregnant (I'm a size 24 at the minute - maternity ranges don't do my size) so I'm reduced to elasticated waist trousers in a size bigger than normal with huge tent type t-shirts in an combo that makes me look Mr Greedy, much to DS's amusement!

Sorry to jump in, I just wanted to moan to someone who won't roll their eyes at a pregnant woman complaining of yet another uncomfortable side-effect of being pregnant. I know I'm pregnant, I know it's normal, I know it's not forever. It just fecking hurts right now, ok?!!

Rant over!

herbgarden · 05/11/2008 22:03

Drafted reply earlier and then finished and posted it later so didn't see other postings. I'd really recommend the Alistair Sawday website and also we stayed in this lovely B & B in padstow - maybe you want somewhere cottagey but this place was lovely - I stayed in the sister one Pendeen House with DH last year and the little touches were really nice. My parents stayed in this one www.treverbynhouse.com/Rooms/turretroom.html

Just a thought but you probably have your heart set on a cottagey thing by the sounds of it.....

Another windy one here too (I seem to have all the ailments. It just slips out....

TinkerBellesMum · 05/11/2008 22:43

When you look at the stats for Hughes Syndrome they should be testing every pregnant woman or woman who miscarries. 1 in 500 of the population suffer from it (it goes up to 1 in 10 if you have a relative, sorry Sis!) but we cause 1 in 8 of any pregnancy complication you can imagine (pre-E, HELLP, PE, IUGR, mid-T loss, stillbirth etc, the PGP is just bad luck). I've done lots of looking into things over the years and have completely lost the innocence of pregnancy because I know how fragile it all is. Even if I didn't have this condition then it would all still be fragile.

MarkStretch I'm glad I'm not the only one! THOM, I couldn't remember who it was who said that but it was playing on my mind all the time I was in hospital! I had to keep going to the toilet before each internal to make sure my bladder was empty (because I'm getting to the point where there's not enough room for a full bladder and a speculem) and so I could try and pass as much wind as possible!

Thanks mrsy and HerbGarden. Trying to keep my legs tightly closed now!
